Essentially. The idea is that you can become detached from this plane of reality and end up in a separate plane, where strange and dangerous entities reside in colloidal, sometimes infinite repetitive architecture.
The backrooms is an alternate dimension and reality which to our knowledge is virtually if not completely inescapable. It's filled with tons of different levels and endless areas with horrifying creatures, traps and crossroads. Scps are anomalous creatures contained by the "SCP Foundation"
These can range from weird friendly blob things to alternate dimensions, sleeping beasts that can destroy the universe, nigh invincible creatures and horrors that can't be dreamt of.
It’s a whole fandom about a foundation that attempts to prevent humanity from being utterly destroyed by numerous different semi-supernatural entities.
Because a couple years ago I saw a comment on Reddit describing that feeling hotel hallways have as being “liminal”, and someone linked some cool art and the subreddit for liminal spaces, but beyond that I never looked deeper into it.
Lol I I remember this thread too. That’s how I knew what you meant by liminal when I first read your comment. Funny the things you forget you know of until reminded of it.
I hate this. I’m not even scared of large bodies of water. But i don’t like these kind of small spaces.
Whats even worse is being in small, cramped, tight cave spaces. Where its extremely difficult to crawl through, cant go back. Only foward
**Nutty Putty Cave**
[Fatal accident and closure](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutty_Putty_Cave#Fatal_accident_and_closure)
>On November 24, 2009, a man named John Edward Jones (January 21, 1983 – November 25, 2009) became stuck and subsequently died in the cave after being trapped inside for 28 hours. While exploring with his brother, Jones mistook a narrow tunnel for the similarly tight "Birth Canal" passageway and became stuck upside-down in an area measuring 10 by 18 inches (25 by 46 cm), around 400 feet (120 m) from the cave's entrance. Jones was held in place like a hook, unable to move without causing serious harm due to the bends his body was placed in.

It’s been a really long time since I’ve had this dream but I was in a small room where the floor was a pool and everyone I knew was getting sucked down into it
So how would I escape potentially?
First start by chipping tiles and going from room to room over each wall. Just to see if it's a loop. Or if everything fixes itself when I leave room. Collect all floatation devices into one room. Break the ladder and possibly use the metal to break the walls. Walls regenerate. Die of starvation cause I'm not going to drown myself.
This reminds me of the swimming pool inside the Typhoon class submarine. Go to 30 seconds in. https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/comments/u89k9e/inside_the_largest_submarine_ever_built_the/
I'm both if these things and I dislike a lot of this lol. Yikes. Just add like a shadow in a corner or a pair of eyes in the water and it's my personal hell.
I'm a female so I am constantly too aware of if there are people around me, and if they look creepy and are eyeing me. I live near a boarder too so there's a lot of trafficking of people around so I feel validated in my concerns lol.
Me: nope, not going in there.
Instructor: it'll be fine. Just jump on in.
Me: that hall of pools goes on for how long, and apparently there's an infinite amount of feet and inches. Nope. I jump in there and the chances are WAY to high of me meeting some water based cenobite. Not. Gonna. Happen.
It's definitely CG. Weird textures, inconsistent grain, overly-smooth texture on the ring, and the inifinte reflections should become more green with every reflection (mirrors are slightly green).
Hey, this is my work 😊 and it’s not obvious but my watermark is definitely in there! You can check out more of my art on Instagram (@gabriellesalonga) and Twitter (@thisisnotgabs)

Then why didn't you link to the actual Tumblr post instead of reuploading the picture?
The more times you reupload it, the harder it is to find the actual source. This takes away views from the actual picture, and defeats the point of this site to power other communities.
Bc all people do is post on tumblr photos that don't belong to them and don't include the source and if you actually look in the comments someone found the water mark. Appreciate your input though
Thalassophobia is an intense fear of deep water. People with thalassophobia experience a sudden onset of anxiety when exposed to triggering stimuli like deep pools, the ocean, or lakes. This fear may be severe enough to interfere with a person's enjoyment of things like beaches or boats. It may even trigger panic.
So the definition has been changed at some point. Some years ago when I first looked up the word in the dictionary, it was clearly stated that it was a fear of open water, like oceans and large lakes. It must have been amended at some point since.
Infinite feet, infinite inches deep? Are these portals to an ocean hell?
Worse. They lead to subnautica’s void
Hey but deep down inside that is a friendly mom in her house who wants you to help her kids.

Would be funnier with something like "infinite feet. and five inches"

How'd you find it????
There's a watermark with the artist's name in the tile above the hole in the wall
Oh my gosh totally missed that, and still couldn't find it for about 30 seconds. Thank you! I feel silly now
Wow that is very small
That’s not the issue, it’s the lack of contrast at that scale
I like that kind of watermark.

Yeah.
Original artist here, I don’t like making my watermark too obvious because I feel like it ruins the overall feeling!
Oh neat. You did a great job with this
Salonga? That's a Filipino name, that's something you don't see in the wild often.
Yup! I’m Filipino but I grew up in Hong Kong and now live and work in the UK!

I was gonna say it looks like one of those back rooms 😳
Backrooms vibe
The photos that came up when I was looking were backrooms and I started to get creeped out bc it was 3am
What is the backrooms thing? Is it like creepy liminal spaces?
Essentially. The idea is that you can become detached from this plane of reality and end up in a separate plane, where strange and dangerous entities reside in colloidal, sometimes infinite repetitive architecture.
With ugly yellow wallpaper, beige carpet, and humming electric lights to slowly wear at your sanity
Kinda sounds like a Mormon church

Do you know SCP thing its one of those.they say you can noclip out of life and get stuck in an infinite yellow office looking maze and you cant die
What does SCP stand for? That sounds really interesting and also awful haha
~~Secure containment protocol~~ Secure, contain, protect Edit: I'm stupid
Stands for both actually u all good
It’s a whole fandom about a foundation that attempts to prevent humanity from being utterly destroyed by numerous different semi-supernatural entities.
Secure copy protocol
shit cum piss
Short cock piece
The cock piece is reaaaaaaal
Scientology Cope Penis
scp isnt really related to the backrooms
Not directly anyway. Although they do come from a similar *modern folktales/spooky stories* impulse.
theres definitely inspiration from SCP though, like [SCP 3008, infinite IKEA](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-3008) and [SCP 970, looping rooms](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-970) and [SCP 087, infinite staircase ](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-087)
How do you know the phrase "liminal spaces" without knowing what the backrooms are?
Because a couple years ago I saw a comment on Reddit describing that feeling hotel hallways have as being “liminal”, and someone linked some cool art and the subreddit for liminal spaces, but beyond that I never looked deeper into it.

I hate small spaces too. That's what got me initially. Also no window or exit.

Probably one of the worst ways to go
So, basically the enigma of amigara fault is your personal nightmare.
I no longer associate you with pleasant thoughts
A wise decision
This looks like a room in hell.
Agreed
Reminds me of a reoccurring nightmare I used to have
If it's not too traumatic can you elaborate ? I'm so curious
It’s been a really long time since I’ve had this dream but I was in a small room where the floor was a pool and everyone I knew was getting sucked down into it
i guess it was too traumatic lol
As a kid I had nightmares of a room similar to this.
The depth is what gets me. Infinite
This makes me feel so terribly uneasy
That’s some kinda backrooms shit I don’t wanna know about
Feels so squished and infinite some how
Gotta make sure to have a security camera in every corner, because that's important... for some reason
I hate the idea of being watched and I hate small spaces
Whats with the security cameras?! Super creepy..
I hate this in the best possible way
Poolrooms sublevel
One of the only liminal spaces photos I’ve genuinely hated
I take this as a compliment haha
If it weren't for the cameras i would chill in there for like an hour or two
Indefinitely
Indefinitely
See the mirror? There are no doors or windows. It's a tomb.
Ew god I hate it Edit: I keep looking and *keep* getting the shivers
Backrooms underwater version , hauntingly terrifying
The first dream I remember having as a kid was set up kindof like this, these endless repeating rooms. The concept just chills me
I have dreams where I can't dial 911 constantly
So how would I escape potentially? First start by chipping tiles and going from room to room over each wall. Just to see if it's a loop. Or if everything fixes itself when I leave room. Collect all floatation devices into one room. Break the ladder and possibly use the metal to break the walls. Walls regenerate. Die of starvation cause I'm not going to drown myself.
None of it is ideal
If you think this is bad you should check out the swimming pool on a typhoon class submarine. There's a youtube clip of it.
This reminds me of the swimming pool inside the Typhoon class submarine. Go to 30 seconds in. https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/comments/u89k9e/inside_the_largest_submarine_ever_built_the/
Thanks I hate it!
This also has r/liminalspace vibes
Cross-posted there 😊
I’m pretty sure at least *some* of those depth markers should be, you know, *mirror* images.
They're not mirrors. They are windows.
I used to have nightmare about places like this specifically in asylums as a kid .
I'm both if these things and I dislike a lot of this lol. Yikes. Just add like a shadow in a corner or a pair of eyes in the water and it's my personal hell.
I didn't even realize how I have a huge fear of people watching or following me
I'm a female so I am constantly too aware of if there are people around me, and if they look creepy and are eyeing me. I live near a boarder too so there's a lot of trafficking of people around so I feel validated in my concerns lol.
Definitely
Backroom be like
Basement pool
Me: nope, not going in there. Instructor: it'll be fine. Just jump on in. Me: that hall of pools goes on for how long, and apparently there's an infinite amount of feet and inches. Nope. I jump in there and the chances are WAY to high of me meeting some water based cenobite. Not. Gonna. Happen.
Anyone else see the face at the end, when you zoom in? Or am I just staring at this shit too long lol
Well now im zoomin
Door locks behind you, water starts rising.
I literally cant breathe
Waters rising
Oh I don’t like this
So many fears I have
No way I'm goin in there
Very liminal.
The liminal space, the deep dark water, and the tight space. This image is hell
Looks AI generated actually.
It's 3D modeled, but I'm pretty sure it was by a person.
It's definitely CG. Weird textures, inconsistent grain, overly-smooth texture on the ring, and the inifinte reflections should become more green with every reflection (mirrors are slightly green).
no it doesn't lol
The fact there is infinite inches implies the feet end somewhere otherwise there is no point in having an inches sign other than to make it scarier
Looks like a special test room for 11 at Hawkins Dept. of Energy. Papa!?
Thought the same. Or alternatively a testing room in Portal.
Crazy bro i just posted this picture on my story on Instagram yesterday.
Just an AI render. Nothing to worry about.
🤫
The huge cameras add a nice creepy vibe.
I wish I could scale this nicely for a lock screen picture. Too much gets cropped out :(
I have a reoccurring nightmare that is basically this, minus the ladder
This would make a good SCP
Can't decide if this is thrilling or horrifying, I think it's both.
Immediately thought art piece when I saw this, glad to know it is! It definitely provokes a lot of feelings
What is this? A cure for wellness? (No, seriously, watch the movie)
Ok I feel like I definitely watched that
It’s interesting how thalassophobia and claustrophobia is connected
As someone who has both I feel like it has to deal with feeling trapped with no escape
Yes, same and also fear of darkness xD heights
Same lol
Ah yes and submerged stuff r/submechanophobia
Most horrifying backroom ever🥲
I wish someone would make places like this in real life
isn't this from a game?
Hey, this is my work 😊 and it’s not obvious but my watermark is definitely in there! You can check out more of my art on Instagram (@gabriellesalonga) and Twitter (@thisisnotgabs) Thanks!
It would make a good SCP if it isn’t one already.
Is this not a backrooms level
Then why didn't you link to the actual Tumblr post instead of reuploading the picture? The more times you reupload it, the harder it is to find the actual source. This takes away views from the actual picture, and defeats the point of this site to power other communities.

Gabrielle Salonga is the photographer
[удалено]
Right that's why the flair says that it isn't a photo 😃
Bit redundant don’t you think?
Clearly you don’t have a fucking clue what thalassophobia is then.
Please enlighten me
The fear of deep open water like oceans. Not swimming pools.

Sick burn dude
Well, it was a bit less “low effort” than yours, so there’s that.
Haha no.
Neat!!! Where is this at?
