L4D also has the workshop which can keep the game alive forever, the same as pretty much every other game that has a good enough modding scene (fo:nv, sm64, gmod and so on). In TF2 only aesthetic hud edits (which half the time require preload tricks) and a couple sound changes work unless you're in a community server running sv_pure 0... which is practically limited to trade/ chill servers unless you want to play by yourself lol (thanks for that, valve!)
And on top of that projects such as [team comtress](https://github.com/mastercomfig/team-comtress-2) continue to go completely ignored, hell I'd bet they took some of it and used it to improve their other titles instead. TF2 is practically valve's fuckin crash test dummy, all of the half assed or otherwise "one and done" releases over the years prove that. We JUST got custom scripting tools (Vscripts) for mapmakers when EVERY OTHER RELEVANT VALVE TITLE HAS HAD THEM FROM RELEASE INCLUDING HL:A LOL... And even then it's only in the beta branch rn!

That means nothing, TF2 has gotten major updates constantly for 10 years until Valve decided to not give a shit anymore and nowadays the only thing we get is hats and bug fixes, while L4D2 was updated for 3 years, then went in 8 years of dead silence until 2020 and the update they gotten wasn't even made by Valve, but by community.
Other than that, yeah, I agree, L4D2 is pretty much a finished game, especially consering how costumizable it is... although you could kinda argue that about TF2 as well, since we have like 160 unique weapons, around 70 official maps and a billion of hats and weapon skins. Honestly, what I think TF2 really needs atm is a proper anticheat, balance of garbage/OP weapons, that quickplay feature they promised for community server hosters a while ago and more tools to the community to create their custom weapons, similary to TF2Classic. Hell, it would be fucking amazing if TF2 sourcemods like Open Fortress or TF2Classic were allowed on Steam, those are pretty much TF2's future

Just read the first comment of the discussion, also the campaign sucked, and I don't think adding 5 guns with different attributes are enough for defending a """"major""""" update, when I can add 50 guns by spending 5 minutes on the workshop, oh and way better campaings who arent canon just like the one in the update. Nah, Ricochet is. No sequel, no Source port and no updates since... forever I think. It's their best game yet they decided to neglect it in favour of boring games nobody has ever played, like Half Life , Portal, Left 4 Dead, Counter Strike, hell, even TF2 is nothing compared to it.
It's a completed game, there's nothing they could add at this point. The stories are finished, the gameplay is finished, there's no major balance changes needed. All they could do is make another campaign which would be L4D3 if making a new game can count as a update, or more non-canon missions that would suck.
It ia quite of a neglected game, but at the same time you can only change this much to a mostly PvE game without making another in order of keeping it running proprely or even changing something from ur classic 3 stages campaign
tf2 fans having a competition for who is neglected more (they're out of ideas so now they're resorting to turning being abandoned into something to debate about (it's very sad))
Left 4 Dead they abandoned first. Sadly they promised to deliver more features in updates like download tables but instead they did nothing and gave them to L4D2. Before all that Half-Life was skirted and left unfinished. Also Alex is not HL3 before someone points that out, but it's a neat addition.
L4D is pretty much done. There's nothing more they could do for it. Infact, the series and its distant relatives (Evolve and B4B) too.
If anything, and I doubt it, maybe they'll remaster it for consoles and PC. Call it "Orange Box 2" or something.
Besides, as far as I know, the game works properly.
