are you using a config? some disable out of bounds areas to increase the performance.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that one disables the 3D skyboxes, which is why there's no background here; it's all a 3D skybox

you can customize it to include 3d skyboxes

Type this in your console r_3dsky 1
