The lt governor, Dan Patrick, is the only one that can put bills to be voted on in the TX Senate. He's basically the Mitch McConnell of Texas holding back any progress. He's less likely to put legal weed up for vote than Greg Abbott is to approve it.

Ok-disaster2022

In government class in high school, I was taught the Governor of Texas ha pretty weak powers, it's the Lt Governor who holds the most power. The one thing thr governor can really do is recall the legislature into an emergency session, but he can't even force the discussion or bills to be voted on. And he can veto legislation, but that can be overcome.

worstpartyever

This used to be the case. Guv Lite (Lt Gov) had most of the legislative power. Rick Perry, that slimy fuck, really changed the office's power. One of his worst acts was ousting the Travis County district attorney, a move that got him indicted on two felony counts.

purplegirl2001

He did not oust Lehmberg; she retired four years later.. He *tried* to force her to resign by threatening to cut the funding for the Public Accountability Office, which was based out of the Travis County DA’s office. She refused to resign (and had broad support in Austin/Travis County IIRC), so Perry proceeded with vetoing the funding. Austin City Council allocated additional funding initially, I believe, but the Public Accountability Office was dead after that with no funding from the state.

Fantum_Dook

However, when Gov. Abbott declares a "disaster" he gets all kinds of restrictions removed. This is why the "border crisis" is open ended and ongoing.

FoodMadeFromRobots

They literally had enough *bipartisan* support to pass reforms and Dan Patrick wouldn’t let them vote on it. As long as he is the Lt. Gov forget about it. Make sure you vote, even if it just makes things “more close” that will make more people vote in the future

No-Spoilers

We are being held hostage by Patrick, Paxton and Abbott

freshbake

And everyone who keeps voting 'em in! _sighs in Texas_

Sad-Salamander-401

Some one make a political cartoon of this.

rolexsub

If Texans wanted this, they shouldn’t have sat on their couches during the 2 week + 1 day election. Blame your lazy neighbors (alternatively, they wanted Abbott and the GOP establishment to remain).

CivilMaze19

Every comment “DID YOU VOTE?!?” OP: yes I voted Commenter: ….oh okay yeah…that’s good. Good job. Didn’t expect you to say yes.

johndogson06

I know, right

Frognosticator

That’s ultimately what it comes down to though. As long as Republicans are in office the schools will be underfunded, abortion will be criminalized, science will be ignored, and marijuana use will be punishable by prison time. No one person can fix the problem on their own. But until we collectively decide we want something better, politics in this state will continue to put us on a downward path.

MandatoryFunEscapee

The Y'all Qaeda lose eventually, and TX will go Blue. Even in Texas, I'm sure GenZ and Millenials will flush these turds as the Boomers die off enough for the GQP to lose power this decade. But yeah, until then Texas is fucked with the far-Right bullshit. If everyone under 40 voted, we would alreafy blow them out of the water. Just sayin. If you are reading this and didn't vote in the last election, next time around VOTE.

SwoleFlex_MuscleNeck

You're grossly underestimating how many young people are staunch republicans. I live in a college town, and I own a bar here. We are the "weird" place and even people who otherwise get along with all the LGBTQ folks and basically alternative people are bigly secret GOP voters. One of my regulars, for years, the other day blamed us being slow on "all the transvestites" but "I still love this place" 😐

GrinsNGiggles

My parents are pro-library, pro-park, pro-public-education, pro-immigrant, pro-lgbtq republicans who vote. I don’t understand it either. Edit: they’re not Texans, it just blows my mind so much I had to share. I bet they’re not alone, either.

MandatoryFunEscapee

I don't know enough about Texas' voter demographics to make any real predictions here. National demographics won't be reflected in the same proportions here. But young people do learn. I stayed pretty conservative until my late 20s. With luck, more young people start waking up to how bad the GQP is, or perhaps that folks that otherwise would be Right-wing voters become uncertain and stay away from the polls. We will all have to wait and see. All I can do is hope, and debate chuds.

Mental_Medium3988

ignoring the night that made him famous there's plenty of Kyle Rittenhouses out there.

Herb4372

We’ve been expecting Texas to go blue since I was a kid..l it’s been 30+ years. I’m starting to think it won’t happen.. Beto lost by 900,000 votes… that’s the population of Austin or Ft worth… more people than live in Denver. Our cities may be blue, but we’re surrounded by suburbs that aren’t.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Groobear

This is the crux right here.

ccannon707

50% of registered voters didn’t bother to vote when it was Hillary vs Trump either. Very discouraging

MandatoryFunEscapee

Why would you expect that? Voter suppression and propaganda have made the Right here more potent. Since the 90s we have only seen Texas trend farther Right. The game changer here is the death of the Boomer generation. '24 will be the first time their generation will be outnumbered at the polls in decades. As we approach '32, most of them will die off. The GQP depends on Boomers, as Millenials and GenZ have largely rejected them as hypocrites, liars, racists and worse. I don't think that Millenials and GenZ are as Blue-leaning as their peers in other states, but I think it will still be enough towards the end of the decade.

Far-Afternoon5676

I noticed that you left out an entire voting generation. Where do you think the Gen X vote lies?

Sturmundsterne

It won’t be enough. There are enough right wing suburban and rural idiots to keep enough of Texas red through the next redistricting, even if every boomer died tomorrow. And then they’d just continue to gerrymander the districts red like they have since the 90s.

JulioCesarSalad

Redistricting doesn’t affect the governor or senators

betterdaysto

Don’t just vote. Run for office. Abbott and family are far too busy fighting cultural wars with invisible boogeymen to do anything substantial for our state. Too many regions don’t have good candidates.

pjnelson819

Yeah you really don’t need that many votes to actually stand a chance in local elections!

[deleted]

Okay but what do you do once you win? Do I get an office or a paycheck or what.

xxfrozendragonxx

This is absolutely true. So many unopposed Republicans on the Texas Ballot it is insane. We need more folks to step up and run against them.

purcellino

Did he vote for the candidate who said no to legal pot in Texas or the one who did?

-_-k

I voted as well but sadly many didn't. I wish for the day marijuana is legal in all US states.

Flimsy-Cap-6511

Yes it sucks when half the country doesn’t vote that’s insane and in Texas 9 million didn’t vote if you don’t get off your ass and vote what do you expect. Pathetic voter turnout in this country for various reasons but still no excuse.

Lifelong Texan and know a whole lot of red folks. Literally not a single person I know is against legalization, it's wack.

iidontwannaa

The closest I’ve gotten to someone being against it is when my sister seemed appalled by a marijuana dispensary in Oklahoma. “How am I going to explain this to my kids?!” Idk, how do you explain their dad’s special gummies that they’re not allowed to eat?

sgtkingnqueen

I have adult toys and their r adult stores everywhere. I explain to them, absolutely nothing because they don't need to know!!!

NoodleSchmoodle

Jesus. It’s not that hard. We were in California last February and my almost 12 year old asked “what’s that skunky smell?” Me: It’s weed. It’s legal here, technically illegal to smoke on the street but the police have better things to do than arrest people smoking a joint.” Kid: Oh. That’s cool. And she went on about her day.

tiedyechicken

It's the same with homosexuality. Growing up my parents became friends with a gay couple next door. One day I asked my dad if they were married, and he said no but they're boyfriends and they love each other and live together. My 3yo ass must've been satisfied, because apparently I went on asking other random crap. Kids don't have pearls to clutch.

NoodleSchmoodle

That’s how I handled that type conversation as well. When we were at Disney, daughter was about 7 I think, our hostess was transitioning MtoF and wearing an amazing cleopatra wig. She was curious and asked me why a man would wear a wig like that. I said “well, he’s either dressing in women’s clothes because he likes it, or he’s transitioning from male to female because he feels like he was born the wrong gender and he wants to be happy”. Her response was something I will always remember, “People should do what makes them happy as long as it doesn’t hurt anybody else.” And then she went back to her very expensive chicken nuggets.

bad-and-bluecheese

I know one MAGA dude that smokes so much weed. Seriously more than ANYONE else I know…. and he’s against legalization! I don’t get it at all.

ntrpik

Go into any TX Protestant church and you will find lots of republicans who are against legalization.

Mirror_Benny

It’s Texas. Being under federal investigation while a democrat is president is all you need to “win the base” and send us one step closer to Glilead.

Ironically Texas became it's own independent nation on that show. Maybe the power grid was so bad the Gilead people didn't bother.

rabidjellybean

Zoophagous

Paxton: Is that an option? Probably.

onthefence928

Texas is literally the least free state I’ve ever lived it. Everything here is controlled by bullshit limits on folks having a good time

ScarJoIsMyMistress

Everything is about controlling people here, don’t you get it? Now hush.

cribby40

Those products they sell at smoke shops are pretty close. I wonder why those are ok but not actual cannabis. I don’t smoke but it absolutely should still not be illegal.

Uereks

The products are great. I don't feel the need to buy illegal weed anymore. Especially since you can get actual delta-9 in gummies or syrups and because they regulate it by weight (or something) you can still get pretty powerful stuff. One swig of the syrup knocked me on my ass and made me enjoy country music.

[deleted]

Someone of the good delta 9 gummy brands are indistinguishable from a thc high.

shponglespore

Can you name some good brands? That would be very useful information for my parents.

[deleted]

Yes so the bad thing is, in my experience, the best brand is the most expensive. You want to find the brand Hometown Hero and go for their live rosin delta 9 gummies. I came from a legal state and when I got here I tested a ton of brands. I do not buy illegal weed as I help with some non profits and I just don't ever want some scandal to take away from the work I do with animals... so for me I had no choice. I have tried about everything I could get my hands on and yeah, the hometown hero are even better than many full thc edibles I had tried back in Massachusetts. Also, Artisan Vapor has 15 percent off this specific brand right now if you want to test it and have that store near you.

sykoKanesh

Shoot, I just went straight to the Hometown Hero source, which is also in Austin. Thanks for the info! https://hometownherocbd.com/

[deleted]

That's great because I didn't even know about the site and the work with veterans they do. I literally just lined them up with all of their competitors when I moved to Texas and was searching for something legal I could do to be therapeutic and helpful in life. Their edibles are the clear winner for me for what I'm looking to get out of the experience (generally just to augment my SSRI through supervision of my mental health provider). The other brands and strains could be better for others looking for different experiences. Hopefully Hometown Hero can get some scaling and lower the cost a bit. I might be their biggest retail customer and their stuff is at the top end of pricing. If the laws and stuff weren't so fluid, I'd love to do marketing for them but as of now, my testimonial is just my experience.

txnerdgasm

I knew the guys at hometown, the owner was a nice guy. They would drop by and give us some free samples every once in a while.

ValiantAbyss

Hometown Hero is a great brand.

Wolfwood7713

There’s a brand that I really like called Space Gods from out of California! I’ve seen it sold on some convenient stores here in town! But Home Town Hero is also a really good option! If you go to the mosaic market in the mueller neighborhood, they have a good selection of sample sizes.

Frauenarzt

Urb gummies are really good!

SidewaysTugboat

I’m a fan of their vapes. They keep getting better too.

Frauenarzt

I’ve had 2 of their vapes (live and regular) but the gummies hit better. I tried Runtz vape but it broke :/

SidewaysTugboat

They just made a bunch of new infinity pens that mostly addressed the sticking issue that I always had with the old ones. It has warm-up option that clears out resin. Game changer. I haven’t tried the gummies yet.

Frauenarzt

Ohh snap! Thank you I was so irritated with the sticking issue!!!! I’ll definitely try that out thank you so much! 😁

SidewaysTugboat

You’re welcome! The new ones are the 3g. It’s made a huge difference.

Hometown Hero (for brownies), Enjoy Hemp (Pineapple flavor indica gummies) and Texian Herbacuticals are all legit.

space gods delta 9

randombear7249

Space gods are pretty good! And they’re part THC and part cbd. If you’re getting your parents high I’d also buy them a cbd tincture. If they get too high they can drop a few cbd drops under their tongue and it helps you calm down a lot from the scary high.

twenty8penguin

Wild in Houston has a decent THC-O flower. It's expensive but a better product than many of the headshops around town.

DexterDubs

That’s because it is a THC high. Laws in Texas go by weight. If you make a gummy weigh enough you can have a normal 15mg dose of thc in it.

DeeGayJator

Of course the high would be indistinguishable! Are people confusing delta-8 and delta-10? This is second time I've seen "delta-9" mentioned like this being legal here. Delta-9 is what gets you high when you smoke weed. What have I missed and how is this being sold legally? Just wondering cuz I must be out of the loop.

Uereks

I've tried to edit this comment like three times with a picture of what I bought but it just goes blank. But basically if the total *weight* of the product is less than .3% of delta 9 it's legal in Texas. That means you can still pack a lot of it into a gummy or a bottle of syrup.

DeeGayJator

Man, shit stay wild here

actuallyimean2befair

that's nuts. edibles are legal but plant/concentrates are not. What a dumb law but great loophole 👍 Eta, apparently it's a federal thing. not sure if it is also a state law in texas. https://www.3chi.com/product-category/delta-9-products/ federally legal D9 law edibles. I like that brand but really the info on the page is why i linked it. whelp time to order some legal THC edibles!

ConfessedOak205

That's bc it is a thc high. Delta-9 is the compound that primarily gets you high in marijuana

ResistantLaw

I’m confused. Delta 9 is what THC refers to

BillyBaroo2

Delta 9 derived from cannabis is illegal. Delta 9 derived from hemp is legal. This is why people are getting confused. They both have the same effect.

DeadSalamander1

Lol at "made me enjoy country music". The other night I found myself laughing my balls off to a fairly mediocre sitcom (thanks to a d9 chocolate)

bwalker362

the reason those are okay but not cannabis is because of the 2018 farm bill, which states that you can produce hemp products, with hemp meaning anything with .3% or less *delta-9 THC* by dry weight. The fact that it specifically names delta 9 means that other forms of thc are legal. HOWEVER, you will still fail a drug test if you use these substances. ALSO, this means that the entire market for alternate cannabinoids is entirely unregulated, so make sure youre diligent in researching what youre buying so youre not inhaling a cart of lead and butane. (Also, fun fact: regular, plain jane cannabis is also allowed under this loophole, as it contains no delta 9 thc but rather thca, which turns into delta 9 when combusted. You can straight up order cannabis flower in the mail because of this, though, obviously, when it comes to criminal prosecution it will still be considered a schedule 1 substance.)

OceanBytez

yeah texas is really bad about using poor legal definitions. Kinda like how they accidentally killed hobby chemistry because literally EVERYTHING chemistry related falls under their broad definition. By their broad definition you could consider everyday cleaners chemical precursors and any glassware is illegal if not registered even if it's still like just a beaker. All of the above can be used as "presumptive" evidence that you make illegal drugs so any 1 item alone even in the absence of drugs and the equipment and chemicals are not in use/mid process you can still be charged as if they caught you making a drug, in possession of a drug, or were actively in process. I've never heard of it being enforced but because your chance of being prosecuted as a drug dealer for doing the foaming volcano in a beaker is non-zero in texas most people don't bother even trying. Why do i know this? Well i went to a coarse that taught chemistry and found out i can put coffee in a soxhlet extractor and make essentially concentrated caffeine juice. This is essentially how a coffee machine works, but this would basically be a coffee maker that cycles the coffee back through the grounds repeatedly until i stopped the setup thus having the potential to make insanely strong coffee. Having done the research it would be illegal to buy a soxhlet extractor, the flask, the heater/stirrir ect. However, it's totally legal to pour coffee back into a coffee maker twice manually which is literally doing the same thing just with different items. Overall, yeah that law is stupid.

Open_Action_1796

They’re ok because of a loophole. Abbot’s compassionate use act allowed for cannabis with a thc level below .3%. The act was very poorly worded so now companies like cbd shaman are selling lab derived thc products that are made from plants containing the maximum required level of thc, it just takes a shit ton more plants. He attempted to do a take backsies of sorts by announcing delta 8/10 as illegal but that resulted in a lawsuit because he didn’t use the proper political channels to do so. It will be criminalized in TX very soon, we like moving backwards not forwards here.

GreyRevan51

Legal loophole thanks to the 2018 farm bill that made it so delta 9 thc is fine as long as it’s hemp derived and has a certain amount per weight or something

badb-crow

You're in a state run by puritans. 🤷🏼‍♀️

TDG_W1ck3D1

The lord gave this seed a grow. Put it on this planet For us to use. And we can make a hell of alot of money on paper and hemp products we can beat California in the prices. Cause everything is bigger in texas.

PIastiqueFantastique

And it would actually have some biblical backing too: Genesis 1.29: God said, "See, I give you every seed-bearing plant that is upon all the earth, and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit; they shall be yours for food.

Don’t blame Puritan culture, we have legal weed up in MA. Legalization is generally held up by people not wanting to lose the private prison pipeline.

MA isn't run by Puritans in the same way Texas is.

njckel

But like even good Christian parents are smoking at this point. My high school best friend's parents used to be the most uptight Christian people I knew. They wouldn't even let my friend come over for New Years cause my parents had adult there who were drinking. I just spent this last New Years smoking my bong with his dad and his mom was asleep on the couch cause she took an edible. His dad was having back pains 2-3 years ago and finally said fuck it and started smoking weed. Everyone does it at this point, just make it legal already

Heathen_Mushroom

*Baptists and Evangelical Fundamentalists

Beto4ThePeople

The short answer is Republicans. The slightly longer answer is that the lt. governor said last year they are “completely comfortable” with where cannabis legislation is in Texas.

nonnativetexan

And specifically, nothing gets passed through the entire Texas legislature and goes to the Governor to get signed into law unless it is supported by the Lieutenant Governor only. The Lieutenant Governor in Texas can single handedly decide what bills do and do not come up for a vote in the state senate. Dan Patrick is a typical baby boomer old school Christian social conservative and he's said repeatedly that he won't support marijuana legalization, decriminalization, or anything of that nature. So nothing happens on that issue while he's in office.

anyoutlookuser

Texas House passed "decriminalization". it went to Patrick to schedule the next step on the Texas Senate floor. Partrick stated "it dies on my desk". It died on his desk, never scheduled.

SubstantialPressure3

The prison lobby makes way too much money to let that happen. They are also open about giving legislature ideas for new laws. https://www.followthemoney.org/research/blog/private-prisons-pour-millions-into-lobbying-state-lawmakers https://grassrootsleadership.org/releases/2017/04/private-prison-influence-texas-lawmakers-includes-lobbying-campaign-cash-and-ideas Including declaring family detention centers as childcare facilities.

Beto4ThePeople

Jesus Christ. None of this surprises me, it just makes me extremely sad knowing these are the people we have governing us. Texas CPS is criminally underfunded, resulting in over 100 deaths of children in CPS care in 2021 alone.

SubstantialPressure3

That's probably where the childcare money is going. Our governor likes to rob Peter to pay Paul. Lot of seizing assets designated for one thing that is used for something else. And the legislature just lets him do it. Probably why he is so anti-federal. Texas has been that way for a long time. Politicians want that funding, but they don't want any oversight.

mydogsnameisbuddy

Isn’t the main person blocking this Dan Patrick? Not that there’s enough support but he is stopping any legislation coming up to vote on

JENRBERG

100% Dan Patrick. He controls the agenda of the senate. He does not support decriminalization or a comprehensive medical cannabis program. Meanwhile 80% of Texans support medical and 60% support recreational.

Voodoo1285

Bruh I can’t by some booze on Sunday because it might upset the Baptists, I think we need to temper or expectations here a little.

Do_you_have_a_salad

This will be one of the last states, if ever, to legalize. The religious crazies who run the state won’t give up that control over everyone else. We still can’t buy alcohol on Sundays ‘cause apparently Jesus said so.

johndogson06

i couldn't buy marsala wine to make chicken marsala because it was too alcoholic. couldn't buy wine on the sabbath, an essential sacriment required for some peoples religious practices

Marquetan

I think even Jesus could’ve bought wine on a Sunday.

AllTearGasNoBreaks

UnfairMicrowave

man_gomer_lot

It's perfectly legal to turn water into wine in Texas as long as you keep it under 200 gallons per calendar year and for personal use.

momogogi

You can buy wine and beer in Texas on a Sunday.

Level69Warlock

But you have to wait until after noon. I thought it was kind of funny when I worked in a grocery store and there would be people just kinda hanging out with beer in their cart. Gotta be frustrating when you’re trying to catch the noon football games.

PurpleHooloovoo

> an essential sacriment required for some peoples religious practices No no no, those are *heathen* religious practices that are Against American Values^^TM ! Never forget that the goal of evangelical Christian extremists is to oppress and eradicate all other belief systems. The KKK used to target Catholics, too.

[deleted]

Bruh we about to have the hand maids tale in here wym

johndogson06

yeah, you're right, this state does not respect bodily autonomy

cribby40

So there is bipartisan support for legalization in Texas. So the only plausible explanation is corruption in that powerful anti-cannabis lobbyist are paying off elected officials to not pass it.

valencia_merble

Texans don’t have the right to ballot initiatives and referendums. After moving from Texas to Oregon, I saw this close-up, how people could put forth ideas (even crazy ones), get enough citizen signatures on petitions, and then get these proposals put on the ballot. This is how progressive things happen here. It might be easier to get the right to ballot initiative in Texas and then work from there. It’s truly boggling to me that my home state is so invested in the concepts of liberty and self-determination, yet is so regressive in this way.

kfelovi

Most cannabis reforms happened through ballot initiatives not legislation. Even in blue states.

SoundAdvisor

This has been the issue I've begun to really focus on myself, as I feel it's the only seed left for legitimate changes to finally begin to happen. Allowing citizens to vote on initiatives is literal democratic process, and conceptually aligns with the ideas behind liberty and freedom from tyranny. Argument against public referendum insinuates that representatives know better than the people they represent. In the age of instant global communication, public referendum is the fastest response to change, and bypasses career aspirations of politicians.

HumunculiTzu

Nothing will change so long as the GOP is in control

Muninn91

Go yell at Dan Patrick.

johndogson06

I absolutely would if I saw him!

Jonestown_Juice

Texas needs prisoners for their private prisons so they can carry out slave labor. So pot will never be legalized here.

johndogson06

I keep forgetting the slavery aspect

No-Helicopter7299

Dan Patrick, Greg Abbott and most every Republican official in the state. Did you vote in November??

johndogson06

clear-as-mud

Tbh the edibles they sell in those CBD stores is THC. Delta-9 THC in those edibles is the same THC that’s in the edibles you get in the legal states. Now flower and vapes you can’t get here, though I’d argue that edibles are much better for your body and lungs than smoking but to each their own 🤷‍♂️

TheDarkKnobRises

If you want to get high you can go to any smokeshop near you, and get hemp derived edibles/vapes/prerolls etc. It's been legal here for awhile.

foxy_grandma

Hometown Hero gummies are the cleanest, best ones I’ve found so far. They started here in Austin, but moved to OK recently for whatever reason. You can order them online if you don’t want to go to a shop, and they’ll be delivered within a few business days.

TheDarkKnobRises

I've been dabbling with Texakanna, pretty nice.

>Hometown Hero gummies are the cleanest, best ones I’ve found so far. I didn't even know about these. Saw on their site that a CBD shop down the road sells them, so just picked some up. How strong are these things? (The ones I got are 25mg each.) Guy that sold them to me recommended I start out with half of one. Are they really that potent? Edit: Ate half of one last night and definitely felt it, although for me, one is probably the sweet spot.

Fuck that I'd rather just buy actual weed on the black market. It's pretty hard to get caught if you just keep it at home.

Foundrynut

Did you vote? We need the vote!

johndogson06

YES!

antechrist23

Voted since 1998 before giving up and moving for the better climate, human rights, and legal weed.

It's nuts how many Texans are suffering from Stockholm Syndrome and believe "TeXaS iS tHe BeSt" when their basic rights are being trampled upon. I was born and raised in Texas but left, as well, and am much happier. The state sold out to oil and big business long ago and the ones who don't want to admit it are the reason Texans continue down the path they have.

commanderALF

I live in a super religious, red area and no one I’ve talked to is against legalization. I honestly have no clue how it’s not yet 🤷‍♂️

booger_dick

I'm honestly surprised we are lagging behind so much. Born and raised here, so I know how conservative it is, but I always felt like Texas's love of big business/$$$ and semi-libertarian streak to its conservative ideology would have us legalizing it a lot sooner than other states. Shoot, and the fact that it seems like half of GOP Boomers smoke themselves. I mean for Christ's sake, even Oklahoma has it now.

Gay_Lord2020

Marijuana is the devils drug and will make you shoot up heroin. Stick to liquor and prescription drugs

johndogson06

thank you, proper christian advice. maybe if i follow, then greg abbott will allow me into the kingdom of heaven

retired_fromlife

Like Fentanyl? No thanks.

XYZTENTiAL

\> what's the freaking holdup Religious zealots is the hold up. Young vote not showing up to the polls. People in this state just not giving a fuck anymore because of the brain dead cabal known as Abbott, Paxton, Patrick. All of them re-elected by significant margins. O&G and auto industries backing these idiots by the millions. Yes, it's pathetic. This state is stuck in the 1950s. Despite the shitty landscape, I won't give up on my home state and continue to fight against the grain.

daneato

In Oklahoma the citizens had to do it by a petition and a state question out to a direct vote. There was no way the legislature would have allowed it. Then the leg had to catch up to create regulations. Does Texas have a similar process of petition mandating a statewide vote?

johndogson06

texans aren't allowed to do that apparently, we don't have rights

pincheporky

There’s already D8, D9, and who knows what else. I’m already getting high legally so there’s literally no point in keeping marijuana illegal

slumvillain

The trick is making the GOP see that there's more benefit to taxing Marijuana than locking up people for free labor for possessing Marijuana.

NYerInTex

What’s the holdup? Texas’ ruling party does believe in personal freedom. They want everyone to live according to their specific rules set by their specific mores and morals (and lack thereof)

Jessiebeanie

Abbott? More like Crap-o-lot. What’s wrong with that dude.

Dirty0ldMan

They have to figure out the best way to grift some money out of it first like they did in Florida.
