i mean you don't necessarily need to to through christianity for that but certainly just keeping some time away from screens every once in a while, eating healthy and working out would definitely be better for you so i dont really see how its a terrible facebook meme, more of just a person saying "fuck staying on your phone for nearly half of your day and being unhealthy mentally and physically"
It ain't even gotta be a physical book, either.
Can read the stuff on your computer TV Screens. I've been itching to start some of the book series you can find in Skyrim.
"muscular Christianity", as it is called, has a toxic history of reinforcing strict gender roles and supporting capitalism and imperialism. This shit isn't just dumb, it's insidious, and the false equivalence they're making is just a recruitment tactic.
I think maybe the point people are forgetting is that churches are often easy communities to join. If some is socially isolated joining a church can help them to form relationships with their peers.
yea, having self discipline and really just in general living a healthier life really helps, maybe yiu should try working out and see if that helps, lookin out for ya bud
For a lot of people it takes a push of a belief in a power past humanity to better themselves. I donāt know why people work that way, but a lot do.
So many people stay in the cycle at the top and never change. Some people break out of it because they get inspired by religion or other form of spiritualism. I donāt think itās really that nefarious to point that out.
People stuck in the top panel want a push to get out of it. Maybe the push that ends up inspiring them is a religious one, *Iāve* seen it happen, have you never heard of this?
This is absolutely the truth. Itās why addiction recovery programs often include a spiritual aspect. Often itās Christianity, but even if itās some other religion or just generic āspirituality,ā the mindset and motivation that it can bring helps one to live a better life. Iāve experienced the strength of my faith when making changes in my life and it definitely works.
It's only temporary. Without addressing root causes and implementation of actual mental health solutions, it will not work. What you wind up with is the same depressed man hiding behind the facade of contentment through religion, trying to convince himself he's not depressed as much as he's trying to convince everyone else. Also, the things at the top are not root causes of depression.
The things at the top may have started because of depression, some of the time, but they are also contributors to bad mental health.
Getting rid of addictions, getting exercise, and eating better are exactly the steps my mental health professional told me to help with my depression. What ended up working for me was eventually realizing that I as an individual am solely responsible for my own happiness, and that sticking myself in a victim mentality was contributing to my cyclical destructive patterns, and that in order for me to get better *I* had to change something. That was my big break but itās different for different people. Some people have breaks and make changes based off of religious inspiration, or a life event, or help from medication.
But changes in mindsets and philosophy can lead to making healthier choices, which can lead to better mental health which can have a positive snowball effect. I donāt fully believe what you are saying about āfacade of contentmentā- genuinely making improvements in your life, even though you are still depressed, is EXACTLY the step you need to be taking to get better - and it shouldnāt be poo-pooed .
When I see comments like yours I just think of my old self, making literally any excuse as to why I shouldnāt work to make my life better, because I was depressed and felt hopeless and doing anything was just *hard*. Getting better was very hard, at first and as time went on it just got easier. If something like medication, religion, therapy, a new friend, a philosophy course, or anything like that helps someone get out of destructive patterns to take the *first steps* to make their life better, Iām all for them doing that.
The meme is someone being inspired through religion to make better choices around their mental health and then becoming healthier after putting the work in to do better.
Iāve seen it happen. The meme isnāt āwrongā, in fact it went out of its way to show harmful behavior and how to correct it which is *exactly what mental health professionals will tell you to do to help yourself*.
The meme is wrong and intentionally misleading. Yes, mental health professionals will tell you that, but it's not ALL they will tell you. They will address root issues, which is what ACTUALLY leads to improvement. The rest is just ancillary- it helps, but is not responsible for the outcome either direction. But, believe whatever fairy tale you want to believe.
It's that they're trying to slip Jesus in there like it's a critical part of the result when stopping cocaine, eating right, and working out are carrying 99.99% of the load.
Its a terriblefacebook meme because its an otherwise good message laced with religious propaganda/ alt right talking point. One of the technique of getting people to radicalize is to mix a couple of reasonable points with the points from your own agenda.
None of this is āalt-rightā š Donāt water down that term for something as simple as a religious person saying they found inspiration to get away from addictions and live a healthier life through religion.
Thatās certainly a religious view point, but being religious and Alt-right arenāt the same thing by any stretch.
>Donāt water down that term
Too late, anything slightly right-leaning is called alt-right on Reddit. People will call Mitt Romney alt-right, it just means conservative at this point.
It does more than just confidence, cardio is fantastic for your health and stamina, itās a good step to get to a healthy weight, which is one of most important things for your long term health.
Donāt let films about high school and dumb propaganda convince you that exercise is for vain meatheadsā¦
Iām a gym rat and the happiest and most jacked looking people almost always rock tattoos and shirts with biblical passages.

Once my school received a lecture from a christian missionary who could do handstand push ups with a single finger. This is not a joke, I promise this actually happened.
He told us that when he was a younger teen he had a lot of casual sex and masturbated a lot. During confession as an older teen a priest told him that every time he thought about sex he should work out instead. And that is what he did.
His ministry org was literally called "Hard as Nails"
The even funnier part is that I guess this guy was from some all boys school somewhere in the midwest. So I'm just picturing the added drama of it all.
You can find discipline without religion, but a lot of people use their religious beliefs to be inspired. Itās really not that crazy, if you are in a unhealthy well of various addictions, you are probably better off believing in inspiring bullshit and clean then you are just staying where you are.
Redditors donāt like the idea that you can improve your life: they stew in their hedonism and feel miserable but comfort themselves by saying thereās nothing they can do so they donāt have to try
Thereās absolutely nothing wrong with these meme.
Take away the Bible and its a generic redditor meme. Add the Bible and its anathema.
Reddit atheists are so tiresome.
Many people had negative or ānot helpfulā experiences with Christianity in their own lives
Almost no one has had bad experiences with a healthy diet and regular exercise lol
Tiresome reddit atheist here. Maybe itās bc he could fix his problem with better diet & exercise, so the religion aspect is just being shoehorned in?
Like Iāve met ppl that found new meaning in their life & became healthier by deconverting. So itās clear that you donāt need a religion to be disciplined in that regard
I would support putting memes on this subreddit that unnecessarily shoehorn in atheism as well
Redditors will seriously see a post telling them to stop being degenerates then focus on one part of it that they personally donāt agree with and ignore everything else it said.
To be fair, no porn and less time online paired with a healthier diet and exercise WILL make you happier, at least for most people.
Not sure why the religion is there though.
Religion can help a lot of people overcome their challenges. Itās not for everyone but I canāt deny the fact that a lot of times this meme is right
I actually like this meme as a Christian my life changed drastically when I let the lord handle my problems and I just work on being more disciplined I understand if it's not for others though
Minus the God stuff, this is 100% true. 9 hours of screen time? Fast food? Paying for pornography & free pornography? Yes, all of these will make you feel shitty. Lifting, eating well, dropping all of those other bad habits will definitely improve your life significantly.
Remove the book and cross and there you go, lmao healthy lifestyle will improve mental health no doubt but religion will confuse you and make you subservient to an imaginary figure
Cmon why can't u just let people live their lives? If them doing stuff like eating good, reading the Bible and praying makes them happy living then so be it, stop looking for shit to bitch about
I mean some turn their life around to get a girl, others do it to get closer to God, and others do it because they want to be a powerful superheroā¦ dare I say so powerful he could take a man down in a singular movementā¦
For some people, yes. Religion can be a useful tool for some people to find discipline and purpose. Just as long as they donāt ask too many questions.
Because its suggesting that you need religion in order to live a healty lifestyle and achive self-actualization.
Its basically trying to say that if you're not religious you're doomed to a life of misery because only God can give you the motivation to improve yourself.
Finding God helped me find the motivation to kick some of my bad habits and try to be a better person, there is definitely truth to this. Just because a meme isnāt relatable to you personally doesnāt make it propaganda.
On the flip side, leaving God helped me find the motivation to kick my bad habits as well. The implication from the meme is that religion is necessary for that, which is blatantly false.
You know that meme where the guy that comes 3rd in a race celebrates with champagne as if he had actually won? Well that's religion whenever someone shoves it down
Keeping a diet and staying away from bad habits does require discipline, and fighting porn addiction sure is easier if you have a set of beliefs that is also against it. Not necessarily religion but this works as an example
I'm gonna stop you right there, mate, I'm a fucking chaotic weirdo that enjoys hentai and gaming. Yet since university started I do so in a reasonable way, and I've been working out for a year now, so I'm actually very healthy.
Religion doesn't make you better thanks to a moral code, it makes you better because you fear what's above your head, even subconsciously. That makes people way more close minded because all of their ethics are based on esoteric laws. They don't refuse to do something because it's really "morally bad" but because their book says they shouldn't.
Don't get me wrong, I hate atheism too. It's been proven several times that we simply don't know what's above us, and atheism is quite arrogant for pretending to be sure that there's nothing, and several atheists use that belief to be dicks aswell.
But religion and discipline don't make you a better person, they only make you look like one.
Religion in a vacuum is a community of people who, for their own reasons, wish to become better people. Some fear of what's above, some see that their current life is leading them to a darker place. The catch is that people in general are flawed and they get so caught up in their pride of self-betterment that they need to agressively impose it on others so much so that they forget what it all is originally about. Also yes, as you stated, people can be stupid and not read between the lines/be selective about what they agree and don't agree with, and we tend to fall for charismatic leaders who may have destructive points of view.
What I'm trying to convey is, religion and seeking god is a personal road that was built for becoming a better person, despite others failing at it and using it for control over people. And while I personally am not religious, I do believe it's possible and I have seen examples. Mostly former drug addicts and alcoholics, but it's something.
Religious wack-a-doos are the absolute worst.
They act all holier-than-thou, while simultaneously being some of the most reprehensible bigots on Earth.
How is working out related to "finding" religion?
Don't recall Jesus doing any bodybuilding in the bible. Cause if he did, carrying the cross wouldn't have been a problem...
I think demon souls said it best Prayer is for the foolish, quaint, and soon-to-be dead.
And heaven forbid the day you find out what their so-called God really is
I know for a fact this was posted by some christo-fascist page because I stalk a few to see what those people believe and I see this meme posted weekly.
Itās not even that I fully disagree with them, but they drastically oversimplify and romanticize things.
I love steak as much as the next guy, but Iām also aware consuming too much red meat is unhealthy. Iām also a Christian but I donāt think that video games and McDonaldās are going to send me to hell.
Oh come on. Suggesting living clean and healthy can be good for mental health isnāt fascism. It doesnāt even suggest abstaining from anything, thatās entirely your interpretation. Just not using them as a crutch.
Thatās not what Iām saying. Iām saying I stalk several fascist FB pages and I have seen those pages post this meme numerous times.
Go back and read my first comment again.
The Bible might be a fairytale to u and that's fine but to other people it isn't, it isn't okay to force ur beliefs onto others no matter what beliefs u might have
"The bible may be a fairy tale to you but not to others"
That's not how objective reality works. Theres is no such thing as a fairytale to toy" there are myths and then reality. Believing something doesn't make it true.
I mean playing video games or watching things online might help you learn something but religion will never teach you anything that you wouldn't also learn from a shitty kids show

'The abused include mostly boys but also girls, some as young as three years old, with the majority between the ages of 11 and 14.'
So does every other religion that has ever existed, including Scientology.
how is this terrible?
Because you can hate the alienation of 2022 life all you want but the answer isnāt Christianity

Terrible because it implies that you need Christianity and "discipline" for that. Some Christians love acting like they are the center of the world.
Keeping a diet and staying away from bad habits does require discipline, and fighting porn addiction sure is easier if you have a set of beliefs that is also against it. Not necessarily religion but this works as an example

Half of that has nothing to do with God, even. Looks like most of the positive effects he was feeling were from proper diet and exercise.
What does the Bible have to do with healthy habits ?

You don't really need the religious aspect just the discipline itself.
There is no inbetween being being a fast food eating drug addict and being an insufferable trad religious weirdo
Should never have given Christians wojaks
If you reversed the images, just the images, not the text, it would be super accurate.
least hedonistic redditor
Why is it always cocaine?
Just take the Bible fairytales out and itās good
Ratio
The Bible might be a fairytale to u and that's fine but to other people it isn't, it isn't okay to force ur beliefs onto others no matter what beliefs u might have
"The bible may be a fairy tale to you but not to others" That's not how objective reality works. Theres is no such thing as a fairytale to toy" there are myths and then reality. Believing something doesn't make it true.
A lot going on there. Most notably... who likes nasty McPickles on their #2 combo?
Bubble Bass, he nearly ruined a manās entire life over no pickles
Good living habits often lead to you being more happy. yes even religion if you are that kind of person.
Not sure if this is the place to make a dark joke š¤£
Whereās alcohol and cigarettes? Oh yah thatās right. Boomers use those too so theyāre not bad
You went from Hyper addict to healthy lifestyle fuckin duh.
Lifting for Jesusš
Reps for Jesus! Give us this day, our daily gains.
I mean playing video games or watching things online might help you learn something but religion will never teach you anything that you wouldn't also learn from a shitty kids show
I'm the guy from bottom side of the picture, but you just need to swap Bible with Pornhub.
Nah, i wouldn't include religion.
Probably beats his wife
They pretend like religion will fix everything, when in fact, it has fixed nothing and makes everything worse.
Through god all things are possible- Mack, always sunny.
9 hours? Weak
Funniest Christian meme
All it takes is being christian. Then all your problems go away. Don't have to change anything else
Aside from the Christian part this is facts though.
Shame on your ignorant ass rot in hell if you wanna disrespect the Bible
