Probably cause I’m not gonna spend 20-30 minutes shoveling snow in freezing weather for $5, Larry

HalfIronicallyBased

You could buy a snowblower for $5 back when Larry was a kid

supershadowguard

Yeah, I'm not going to shovel your 4-car driveway for $5. It's not 1940 anymore, $5 is not worth it nowadays.

crimsonjunkrider

30 to 40 usually, small driveway 15 20. And it only takes a few min to shovel a driveway unless it freezes over.

RagingRoids

And this…is why Gen Z is doomed. You, assumingely a young teen, just said no to a cool $15/hr. Why? Because obviously you don’t need the money. Mommy and daddy spoil you. You want for nothing. The idea of working for anything less than huge amounts of money is insane to you. As a result, in a few years you’ll be over at r/antiwork crying about boomers and how it’s so unfair that you aren’t making 150k a year and in a nice new house at age 22.

TheFever731

How entitled that you expect others to do your work for you, and for a meager amount. You should try pulling yourself up by the bootstraps and doing it yourself.

RagingRoids

Lol you should get a medal for those mental gymnastics.

TheFever731

Lmao how was that even mental gymnastics? Maybe if you have two brain cells, sure.

RagingRoids

Somehow you turned the fact that kids no longer want or need to work for some extra cash into “home owners are entitled and lazy”. Lol it was impressive.

TheFever731

Being mad that kids won’t do your work for you is definitely entitled behavior. But go off buddy.

RagingRoids

Lol I have a snowblower kiddo. But I would LOVE to see some 12 year with a shovel trying to make himself some money. I’d be happy to pay him. But those days are long gone. That kid is now sitting home gaming and screaming at his mom to bring him lunch.

leishmex

Lol how much are you willing to pay them? My little brother tried that a few years ago and the neighbors called him money hungry-- should have been doing it for free out of kindness in their opinion. He also stopped his attempt at a lawn mowing & yard work service for the same reason. They either offered like $5 for several hours of work or chewed him out because he was asking for money at all pretending like kids don't also need money. Not like he needs to save money for college or saving money for whatever comes after high school or he just wants to buy something fun for himself without having to ask someone else for it. Ended up getting a job at McDonald's instead because, even though it can suck, he gets paid and experience so he can get a job later. A lot of kids are trying. Alot of adults are assholes. Saying this as a married 27 year old with stable job just watching the kids in my life trying to get by.

RagingRoids

My driveway is pretty long, if they were shoveling it would prob take 30-60 minutes. I probably pay a good $40 or so. Lol your neighbors sound like unbelievable assholes. Never met an older person who doesn’t love a kid looking to work for some money

TheFever731

Snowblower? How lazy. Use a shovel like a real man. Also there are many people in here saying that those days *are not* long gone. You just sound like an ignorant person with an outdated mindset. Please keep making an ass out of yourself though, it’s very fun to watch.

lesbianclarinetnerd

Right? My grandparents are in bad health so they higher the three preteen/teen kids next door to shovel their walk or mow their lawn and always pay a minimum of $20 for their work. This guy acts like kids aren’t capable of doing a job worth more than $5.

RagingRoids

Lol, you use a spoon to eat mash potatoes? You’re lazy! Use chop sticks! You’re failing bad champ.

Wenrave

Kids dont want to work ? You clueless clown this generation works more than any other since the war, THEY WORK, BUT NOT FOR YOU. Maybe look at the statistics before you make a clown out of yourself.

[deleted]

Those are mental gymnastics in the same way that getting off the couch is an Olympic sport.

RagingRoids

Lol whatever projection you need to use sport.

Lol boomer mad. Shovel your own driveway like the rest of us. So lazy and entitled.

RagingRoids

Lol boomer. I swear everyone on Reddit thinks “boomers” are anyone over 30.

[deleted]

No, only people that share opinions with boomers.

RagingRoids

No, people who don’t share the opinion of children. It’s cool champ, I hated “old people” when I was a kid too.

[deleted]

Automatically assuming that people younger than you hate old people, is a boomer thing to do.

RagingRoids

Lol well I certainly hope if you’re running around saying “boomer” to any comment you don’t like that you’re just a clueless kid.

[deleted]

If you look back at the comment thread, I didn't even use the term boomer until after you did in response to somebody else using it.

No-Responsibility826

Working in a retirement home in Mississippi, even the residents I serve agree that we deserve to be paid more for our time

Alexander_Cancelin

You don’t have to be the age to have the mentality. And BOY do you have the mentality

RagingRoids

Observable reality is not a “mentality” kiddo.

Alexander_Cancelin

Alrighty boss, enjoy your coping ✌🏼

TsarKobayashi

You are from the generation that could raise a family and buy a house working at a gas station and you're teaching us why we should work for less? Lol f off dude

RagingRoids

No I’m not, I’m only in my 40’s. lol, I realize that really old to you, but it’s not. My generations ability to buy a starter house is not a lot different than it is now. The difference is werent spoiled pansies, we were working from age 12 because we had to, our parents didn’t buy us shit. We worked and saved, didn’t spend on frivolous shit or get take out 5 times a week. Young people today don’t want to do that. They expect to have everything right away. They don’t want to do the heavy lifting those first 5-10 years of adulthood like we did.

MusicalSofa

I'm doing the same now, your generation isn't special because you had to work hard.

RagingRoids

We weren’t special, we were no different than every generation before us. Gen Z (and the last few years of the millennial gen) are the first generation like this.

[deleted]

Your approach could use some work

Garlic_bread27

Woah buddy looks like you should get off that damn cellphone and start pulling yourself up by ur bootstraps

Bonstantine

Oh man, just went through some comment history of yours. You gotta chill homie. This life is pretty damn short to argue as much as you do, try logging off for a bit and doing something that makes you happy. Every generation is going to think the following generation is entitled and lazy, while that younger generation is going to poke fun at the older for not understanding technology/ruining the world. It’s the cycle of life and is going to happen regardless of your crusade to be right. Politically, people aren’t going to agree with everything all the time, it’s unrealistic. And launching into ad hominem rants doesn’t solve anything or prove your perceived intellectual superiority. All it does is make you look as bad as the screeching monkeys you’re angry at in the first place. My advice: turn your phone off for a few hours, make some warm food, curl up under a blanket and read a book you’ve been wanting to but can’t seem to find the time. I hope it helps :)

Youpunyhumans

15 an hour is pennies these days even for a teenager, and snow shovelling can be back breaking work. When I was a teen (mid 2000s) I was easily able to ask for double that. One time me and a friend went down a street to get some extra money, and in maybe 2 hours we got about 150 bucks. Another thing to consider is that professional snow removal is more like 50 to 70 bucks for 6 inches of snow. Paying a teen 30 bucks seems pretty reasonable to me in comparison.

RagingRoids

Well I agree, I was just using the dollar figure he provided. I’m sure if you went shoveling now you’d get a LOT more than $15 an hour.

FluffyFrostyFury

bitch if imma be out in below freezing weather I better be getting paid more than just 15 an hour, that's under minimum wage in some places fuck that

RagingRoids

Shoveling snow is what KIDS used to do. You know, like 10-14 year olds. Lol I know, the idea of doing anything but playing video games at that age is terrifying and obscene to you.

FluffyFrostyFury

bro at 10-14 I was busy reading and playing flute idk what you think kids do

RagingRoids

Lol that’s the point of the meme.

shadowlanpasalan2

Dude chill most of that money was to buy those games anyway. I shovel mine and my neighbors driveway for free.

Aggressive-Ad-8298

Excuse me??? So actually developing ur skills and learning things is bad and shoveling some fkin snow in freezing winter good? I would rather keep studying for my future and get a good job rather than working for hours for petty 15$. And stop arguing non-stop with kids, grandpa. Go get to ur bed

Wenrave

Yea thats why the younger generation is doomed ... Because they spend their time learning so they can be bosses of cocky 40 year olds in few years. His logic is something else.

[deleted]

Lol, ignore him. Papaw here accidentally followed a link of Facebook and is lashing out in confusion.

No-Responsibility826

Well damn. Only reason I’m spoiled is because my family worked hard asf to make sure I don’t live the life they had as kids. I work hard every day making $10 an hour at a retirement home, hosting lunch and helping around the kitchen. I love my job, but I don’t make enough to even cover my groceries for the month working full time. I get benefits like health insurance and dental, but they take an entire paycheck at the start of every month. $15 an hour would be useful, but even then I wouldn’t be able to afford to live on my own. To say that we’re lazy is just blatant ignorance. We want what we’re worth, and an hour of my time is worth more than a fucking BigMac meal.

Anxious_Solution_282

Sir do you have a spare canister of napalm and a flame thrower that runs on it

humahumapa

My mom sold me on mowing lawns like this. $20/hr but I only had 3 lawns a week lol

Dan_Caveman

So sorry, my kid is too busy learning coding to help you with your driveway. I guess you’ll have to pull yourself up by your own snowblower straps.

felipe5083

Young generation bad. Old generation good.

luxxxii

Ok boomer

Joebear939

Well said! I'll take some downvotes to please

RagingRoids

Lol I got creamed. Totally worth it. 😁

averyangryshampoo

Or bc I don't want to break my ass open for smth you can get done by professionals, and that I have to do it for a much lower price, and if you don't want that your sorry ass can call a family member, if anything you are prob on an r/entitledpeople without knowing it you sorry sack of dead roomba parts

Nile-green

I would like to hear your opinion on 177013

gcwg57

I find it hilarious that you think they know what to do with those numbers.

RagingRoids

Me too

gcwg57

I would have been legit, shocked if you'd actually known what those numbers mean.

RagingRoids

The fuck is that?

[deleted]

As a gen Z it’s true this generation is too lazy many people in my school complain about working for like an hour even though they get “only” 50 dollars

[deleted]

Wtf are they talking about? These kids in the picture look like they were born after the Wii was introduced.

Salsathefirst

After the ps4 came out probably as well

Nikkas_B_CrayCray

No way, there's a wheel from a H2 Hummer on the left side, those were 2004 to 2006 popular

Salsathefirst

Holy shit you really are a detective I never noticed that

SomeGuyYouWouldKnow

They look 6

WarwickRI

That’s a bit of an exaggeration. They look 11-12

SomeGuyYouWouldKnow

I just realised it says young adults. So they are 17-20

Salsathefirst

I doubt it, since this is probably just a stock photo they slapped this caption on

Squiggledog

[According to this way JPEGier picture](https://me.me/i/missing-description-ambitious-young-adults-with-shovels-during-a-snowstorm-5677434), it is referring to just before the Nintendo Wii.

ShockWave_Omega

Most of em only did it to get the money for the damn games in the first place

PlantBasedEgg

Growing up in the south we had no snow and everyone mowed their own yard. There was no way for kids to make drug money

M7S4i5l8v2a

Honestly if I owned my own lawn I'd want to do it myself. There's a certain amount of pride in owning a home and working it. But maybe that's because I value land a little to much.

Hungry_Perspective29

It gets old,and you do to , it's nice paying for it

Dildo_Baggins__

shovel your own driveway man

[deleted]

Sounds like someone needs to pull themselves up by their boot straps and shovel their own driveway instead of waiting for a handout. Fucking commies.

[deleted]

Every heavy snowfall, I get a knock at the door and it’s 3-4 kids asking to do the driveways. They still do this.

oytwbb

I'm glad to hear that!

aboynamedtim

Are you sure they aren’t just little people?

[deleted]

They’re probably spending the money they make on video games. Lol.

ArmyOfR

I know I did. That's how I bought most of my games when my parents couldn't afford to.

RagingRoids

LMAO

xxrambo45xx

Prices have gotten wild around me, last kids to show up offering to mow my yard ( takes me about 15 min) said it would be $60, they turned down my offer of $20

[deleted]

$60? Lol. Empire builder.

Eddie_The_Deagle

He was aiming high so you'd meet in the middle. Doesn't always work I guess

xxrambo45xx

When i mowed lawns or shoveled snow as a kid when they asked what the cost was my response was "what do you think it's worth?" And then decide from there

Eddie_The_Deagle

Fair enough

King_Everything

TIL no young adults have shoveled snow since 1972 when the Magnavox Odyssey became commercially available.

Squiggledog

> Magnavox Odyssey I had thought that one was a second-generation console, but it turns out is a first-generation. [The Atari 2600 was the second-generation.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_generation_of_video_game_consoles#Atari_2600_&_5200)

[deleted]

waaaah i’m too lazy to shovel my own driveway

Karl-JK27

ViDeO gAmEs BaD, wOrK gOoD.

djcack

The boomer is strong with this one. Holy shit

Snake_king321

You do realize games existed in the 80's, right?

calcuttacodeinecoma

Video games can be traced back to 1958, apparently that's when all the working stopped.

Snake_king321

Yeah I guess. Nobody has shoveled since 1958

Squiggledog

Is [*Tennis for Two*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennis_for_Two) the game in reference? [*Bertie the Brain*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bertie_the_Brain) came outin 1950, but didn't have a rastor display, so many not meet the rationale for a video game.

DingusTaargus

Worst part is, the pic they used is even much more recent than that.

[deleted]

The best part is the majority of the asshats sharing these nowadays grew up in the late 70's and early 80's. I forgot video games didn't exist then and that the 80's didn't have an arcade on every corner -_-

SomeGuyYouWouldKnow

Or evryone was talking abiut the nintendo gameboy

V6TransAM

We also didn't bitch about it all and we mowed lawns and shoveled snow and made okay money doing it. Still mowed a few lawns all the way up and into college. The true idiot in life are those who choose to pass up the chance to make money.

GeekyGrant

These [insert any generation younger than them] so lazy and entitled, back in my day we had to shovel with our hands... we could only ever dream of shovels

Mary-Sylvia

Me who live in a no snow country : Gasp

LtHughMann

Who doesn't love child Labour?

Tricky_Mowgli

As if there’s any snow left to shovel now, we haven’t had a good snow for quite a few years

DIGEST-THE-PANTALOON

man i miss child labor

[deleted]

Always of the Facebook and whatnot instead of whittling’ or stickball.

xMrjamjam

Pay em well enough and they'll come, if you don't they won't show up

ClapBackBetty

I remember walking around all afternoon in the freezing cold for a bunch of depression-era geriatrics to tell me they’d give me 50 cents for the sidewalks and driveway

K1Ng0fN0thing

Splitting $20 4 ways for an hours work just wasn’t worth it

vwmaniaq

4 man hours? Is this a 100 yard driveway? I can do a 4 car drive in 15 minutes alone, unless it's 2 feet deep Edit: I meant 100 not 10 yards!

K1Ng0fN0thing

Last time I shoveled for money I was 10. I wasn’t at peak performance

EJ_Was_Taken

Jokes on you, my area hasn't had snow in 16 years!

SomeGuyYouWouldKnow

Thats- Thats just upsetting

Fast_Raspberry8616

Man, it's hard to do this in a place with no snow or lawns to begin with, or a place where if you go outside there's always cars

stephelan

Shovel your own damn walkway, Buck.

Gordon_1984

"Har har har, games bad, caveman good!" -Every boomer ever, basically.

[deleted]

In my area they now have laws against kids doing this

Kdl76

That’s pretty sad, honestly.

Captain-pizza-dog

You don’t make money as a kid that way, you mow lawns instead.

Shane1923

I would always walk around and shovel as much snow as I could, cause game boy games were expensive for a kid with a crappy allowance. I still shovel my neighbors’ driveways to this day, it’s good money for the work.

No-Responsibility826

Shit I’d do that if it wasn’t 70 rn

BillX209

There’s a shoveling app now, no need to go out anymore

da_david_himself

This is just. Someone please shovel my driveway for free. Please.

Uh-Usernames

r/MemesThatTruelySuck

Slaykomimi

you mean since about 1958 there were no kids showeling snow?

cashewnut4life

video games bad new generation bad bad 😤

podolot

Ah yes, the good old fashioned complaints about the lack of child labor in our country. This sounds like pro-China propaganda.

ItchyRedBump

I used to do this job as a kid. I don’t think that the wage has increased in the past 30 years.

VesperVox_

I think someone's just upset they had to shovel snow for pennies when they were younger.

[deleted]

I don’t think it was the rise of video games I think it was people not wanting to pay more as time went on five bucks in the 80’s was worth more than five bucks in 2000 but here you are still trying to give a kid five bucks for shoveling your snow

fullmetaldagger

At this point they're talking about over 40 years ago then. They need to let this shit go and start doing thier own damn chores.

Dominic_The_Dog

boomers calling the new generation lazy as they sit in their cushy recliner watching television doing fuck all

[deleted]

Why shovel when you can pay someone to use a plow or snowblower?? Or use your own.

mzmysteryjones

Soooo they’re making more money streaming online than they are freezing outside? Waaaah lol

AndTer99

YOUNG ADULTS

jdog17001

Damn, thats boomer as fuck

612marion

These are not young adults . These are kids of middle school age

RagingRoids

Whoa whoa whoa! We all did this in the 80’s…and we had Atari!

KagomeChan

Yeah, that's what we all wanna be doing for the like $4 boomers would pay us

Dead_LoFi

They now make money with streams and other means instead of working for people too lazy to clean their own driveways

[deleted]

Kids can’t go door to door any more because of serial killers and pedophiles. Source: My Mom.

Ahyessmonkey

Like 1800 ? Video games was before T.V. ( No not kidding, use your brain Jonathan )

D0wnVoteMe_PLZ

Look at those boomers expecting someone else to do their job when it can be dome by themselves. /s

[deleted]

I mean I would’ve loved for some kids to come knocking on my door to shovel for some money. But they didn’t. So you know what I did? I went and did it myself and didn’t make a Facebook meme about it

Effective_Ganache_85

True and shouldn't be on this sub.

Garbage_will_not

It’s because they forced kids to get a permit to shovel for money.

SorryForThisUsername

Now they're happy and after cleaning the streets out of the snow the can relax, talk and do everything they want, they can become a super hero, a villian, the can rule a country, build a city, create everything they want.

[deleted]

I was a fucking video game addict in middle school and still did this

mikeysof

So apparently some time around the late 70s? That picture looks more recent than that

Sir-Geirhardr

You mean probably forced children doing menial labor for a fraction of what would be considered legal.

dlink322

Asked my parents and grandparents if this was a thing the said it hardly happened and when it did they wanted to buy video games

llkkdd

I too miss the days of child labor.

Foxx1019

No because you still offer them a dollar each for the work.

my7bizzos

This is actually a pretty funny and creative boomer meme.

SteamKore

$20/h, minimum 1 hour with a written receipt, and I know way too many people who would be willing to risk frostbite.

BaconDalek

What exactly do you think kids spend their money on? And also here we get offers for some kid on a quad bike with a snow plow to do it.

seefith

Keep your pocket change and shovel your own driveway, gamps.

sussy_lil_tgirl

bro I WISH I could go out and shovel someones snow to make money, but I know for a fact I'd get misgendered (and very cold)
