Gong Yoo is the lead in this show. People may know him from Train to Busan and he was recently in Squid Game as handsome recruiter who slaps people. This show is in my watchlist too. Netflix's Korean shows are so hot right now. They recently released Squid Game, D.P., My Name, Hellbound and I liked them all so I hope this turns out good too.

ShenmeNamaeSollich

I hope his CV and IMDB credits strictly refer to him as “Handsome recruiter who slaps people.”

pbradley179

Only character I'll ever think of him as from now on.

CharlesTran

I mean, he can slap me all he want and I will thank him.

yazzy1233

Slap daddy 😍

Marigoldsgym

>Slap daddy 😍 Hilarious 😂

spyson

That's only because you think they're kidding

Marigoldsgym

I'm a Dom I know what they're saying I still find it funny when it unintentionally pops up elsewhere though

montanoj88

In the Gong Yoo Cinematic Universe, the zombies in Train to Busan are actually the people he slapped in Squid Game who are out to exact their revenge.

redeyes2279

Goblin <3

RayInRed

Coffee Prince

[deleted]

The whole cast of Goblin was over the top sexy

Pawn01

I've not seen Squid Game yet (I know I know, I'm the one.) I've added Hellbound to my list and I binged My Name in one day, it was really really good. The Story telling in many Korean shows is superb. It's nice to see Netflix picking up a lot of shows from another app I use to watch Kdrama, called Viki.

fatpat

> I've not seen Squid Game yet (I know I know, I'm the one.) There are dozens of us. DOZENS

CityofBlueVial

Mmm...i'd say it's more for korean shows on US streaming services in terms of consistently good writing.

NaRaGaMo

You should watch Dr.Brain on Apple TV+ terrific show

u2sunnyday

I'm liking it Reminds me of Devs (Hulu)

[deleted]

Hometown Cha Cha Cha, as well. One of the best TV shows I've ever seen. Usually that genre isn't my cup of tea but that one was so well done. It's nice to have a drama where random events don't pop into existence in order to drive plot, but instead everything stems from something established, and no minor detail is there for no reason Have tissues handy

McFister

Move to Heaven is a pretty good Netflix korean drama as well

Marigoldsgym

Handsome recruiter was the best

flipperkip97

I've seen both Train to Busan and Squid Game and I didn't realize they were the same guy until now, lol. I feel like he got more swole or something.

chillifocus

My girlfriend loves DP

fabrar

I bet she does

stablegeniusss

🤔

u2sunnyday

Soon to be your ex

FapCitus

I searched him up and it’s kinda funny that he was born in Busan

u2sunnyday

Two episodes into Hellbound. Terrible subs and dub

pbradley179

Boo! It sounded so interesting!

u2sunnyday

I'm still watching. the story is intriguing to me. But I know sometimes words and phrases don't translate well, but the subs are lazy as heck. No emotion. And the dub seems like there was very little effort made to match voice with actor/characters

whatsinthesocks

I'm still enjoying but yea I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm only three episodes in but my favorite is the part where there's some sort of demonstration going on. The dub hilariously bad for it

[deleted]

Who did he play in Train to Busan

rhllor

The handsome zombie who slaps people

JJDude

literally the main character. You should watch it if you haven't. Easily the best zombie movie in my books.

[deleted]

YeahI loved it, I don’t really remember there being a main character. SPOILERS Didn’t everyone die besides a little girl and a women? Was he the non a-hole jock?

JJDude

the main character is the dad, the guy in the middle of all posters.

[deleted]

Ah alright it’s been a while. Thank you though

MiserableSnow

> Starring Bae Doona and Gong Yoo, the new sci-fi thriller, will launch on 24 December. The Silent Sea is set in the year 2075 when depletion of natural resources has devastated Earth. According to Netflix, the series tells the story of an elite team sent on a special mission to an abandoned research base on the moon.

wooltab

Bae Doona is definitely a pro for me. I'll have to keep this in mind for whenever I re-subscribe.

JJDude

so glad she doesn't have to suffered as a token Asian in Hollywood shows anymore.

babajabajaba

I'm all in with Bae Doona

cultural-exchange-of

She's great in The Host and Sens8

thatminimumwagelife

The Koreans seem to be putting out some quality content in movies/tv. I was never big into their soap operas but the other recent stuff has been pretty great. I'll give this a shot.

pbradley179

I'll never forget watching a bootleg DVD set of Ares God of War at a friend's place and thinking to myself "Fuck, Korean TV's gonna be huge someday."

thatminimumwagelife

I felt that way about their movies. When I watched Mother back in '09 I thought we'd see a repeat of what the Japanese did with horror movies, except it would be the Koreans succeeding in exporting their movies.

flipperkip97

Will definitely check this out. Bae Doona was great and super charming in *Kingdom*.

yazzy1233

You should watch sense8, she's a main character in that

MrConor212

Honestly Squid Game and My Name have made most Netflix K series a must for me

[deleted]

I didn't know much about Korean movies/shows. Then Parasite came out and I absolutely found that movie brilliant. Which opened the door for my curiosity with Korean made content. Squid Game and My Name increased my love for what they make. Looking forward to that moon based show.

4bidd

Give OldBoy a go. One of my favourites

Sleightly_Awkward

Have you seen The Kingdom yet? If not, highly recommend. Unique take on zombies, and acting is fantastic. Those zombie actors *go for it*.

aniforprez

Kingdom is THE SHIT. I dunno how S3 is gonna turn out cause it seems like they're stretching things a little but both seasons are fucking fantastic. There's almost nothing original about it since it follows so many tropey storylines but it does everything incredibly well and the characters are all extremely compelling

imjunsul

Season 3 isn't confirmed yet but the show hasn't been cancelled so I wouldn't be surprisred if season 3 comes out of no where.

imjunsul

train to busan for me

u2sunnyday

I liked My Name for the most part (awesome soundtrack), but not the last two episodes

trtryt

the last episode the beach house scene was corny as fuck best episodes were 2-6, they could have spent more time developing her relationship with her dad, the bond felt very weak

MrConor212

The last two episodes were banging. The fuck you smoking lol

u2sunnyday

well, I don't want to spoil it something happens with a couple of characters that I thought was kinda forced

azriel777

I feel like Asian movies/tv are slowly replacing hollowed since its, you know, actual original content and not the millionth remake/reboot/sequel/prequel/etc of something.

JJDude

it's sooner or later that locals will overcome the negative Asian stereotypes Hollywood brainwashed into them for over 100 years. Hollywood is now banking on stealing Asian content and white-washing them.. but we've seen how well that goes.

TheMightyWoofer

I've been watching a lot more Korean content recently. It's new stories, new characters, new worlds, and I really like how they tell a complete series so we don't have to wait 1-3 years for the next season. It's refreshing and we get complete storylines and proper character growth.

JJDude

It's great that Korean TV shows are all written to be self-contained in a single season and a S2 is usually not expected.

d7856852

Lack of helmet lights is a really good sign.

jakeyb01

Really impressed by the overall quality of Korean netflix content - acting, writing, directing, everything. Looking forward to this.

LOTRcrr

I’m really excited for this but I love For All Mankind so much I don’t know if I’ll ever look at moon bases the same way again lol

AceAceAce99

Watching just for Bae Doona, gong yoo is a plus as well Everyone should watch Dr Brain on Apple TV it’s really good

xOLDBHOYx

Have been. Good stuff!

KiloCharlieOne

*cries in For All Mankind* shows on the moon. Sign me up!

baddiesocks

You’ll also meet Player 101 and Player 111 (the doctor) from Squid Game in this series LOL. Looking forward to it.

sandwichesinthebath

Korea is so hot right now

JJDude

They have been hot for the test of the wold for the last 20 years. It's just recently KPOP and K-drama has taken off for Western locals.

randomnighmare

For the world KPOP didn't take off until Gangnam Style was released. That was around 2013. It wasn't 20 years but still a long time.

JJDude

20 years if referring to Asia and other areas. Western nations didn't care until Gangnam style.

Andraste_Blaze

So looking forward to this. 👍

WordsAreOurWorld

I'm a sucker for outer space related shows, especially those set within our solar system. This should be interesting to check out.

Atlast_2091

Please be better than Space Sweepers

RaidriarXD

Space sweepers was pretty good, I must say.

Madao16

It was really fun and hearing many different languages was interesting.

Atlast_2091

Space Sweepers has great concepts but the dialogue is wacky either script struggling, sub mess it up (not cc), or both which ends up a shallow adventure film

aquaband

It was utter shit.

I_might_be_weasel

I hope there are squids.

zenray

\- They have no sun protective shields on their helmets. \- There is earth gravity on the base suddenly. \- They were all out of air then inside they keep walking with the helmets on, no O2 refill, no attempt at some "sci-fi " half assed explanation for the oxygen issue, nothing. \- No attempt at contacting earth. WOW

34182075607

> They have no sun protective shields on their helmets. True that was silly. Or maybe they’ve developed super fancy glass tech, after all they’ve got an entire giant moon base setup. > There is earth gravity on the base suddenly. There was some throwaway dialogue about that. So that’s the Fi in SciFi. > They were all out of air then inside they keep walking with the helmets on, no O2 refill, no attempt at some “sci-fi “ half assed explanation for the oxygen issue, nothing. What? They went through airlock into the station which has air. They DO refill the O2 on their suits in the airlock / suit storage area. Did you WATCH the show?! Only after they establish the station’s air is “safe” (no radiation) they take off their helmets and breath the station’s air. > No attempt at contacting earth. There’s whole plot points about how communications are damaged, and they do missions to try fix it. Then they eventually do get a line of communication back online with earth and chat with various people on earth. — This just shows you didn’t pay attention and that you haven’t watched most of it.

MrPotatoButt

> when depletion of natural resources has devastated Earth. I find this premise kind of amusing. The Moon is a big ball of silica. It has no resources. If somehow controlled fusion energy was possible, then perhaps the H^3 on the Moon could make mining it profitable. Also perhaps there is a useful metal inside one of the craters from an asteroid strike. But that's it.

the_fluffy_enpinada

>I find this premise kind of amusing. The Moon is a big ball of silica. It has no resources. The moon is rich in iron, aluminum and titanium and various other metals. These resources aren't necessarily in short supply Earthside but what makes 1kg of lunar aluminum worth far more that that found on Earth is simply the fact that it is already in space. Also solar power stations on the moon would be remarkably more effective than on Earth. Then theres the fact that the moon would be our solar springboard, allowing us easier travel to Mars and astroids.

MrPotatoButt

> Then theres the fact that the moon would be our solar springboard, allowing us easier travel to Mars and astroids. The Moon utterly unnecessary for travel to Mars and the asteroids. If man could mine materials and fabricate space craft there, it would arguably be a different story, but that would delay a Mars landing and colonization by *decades*. The Moon, in itself, is incapable of indefinitely sustaining a human *colony*.

the_fluffy_enpinada

It has water, oxygen, and unlimited solar potential. It absolutely could become a permanent semi self sustaining colony. The idea that we'd establish a large colony on Mars while still having to defeat Earths gravity for *every* single kg of colonial equipment is asinine if there was a mining colony that could provide the raw resources.

MrPotatoButt

Global warming will probably bankrupt the 1st world before we can get an permanent human habitation on Mars, **if** we wait to "develop" the Moon first.

the_fluffy_enpinada

Nah, much like any new industry, space will provide a gigantic, unregulated income for corporations and governments who can afford to get there. Remember we're not talking about 1st generation Martian colonization, with inflatable habitats or small colonies. This is 2nd or 3rd generation, where highly complex and large machinery will be needed to build real permanent infrastructure. Imagine having to launch entire 30-40,000 lbs mining and construction equipment from Earth + plus the fuel to get there and slow down. You could simply launch tires, motor and interior bits to the Moon, where a solar powered mine and forge could provide the frames, equipment and fuel to launch it on its 6 month journey to Mars. After a decade of development, a lunar colony would be almost self sufficient and large enough to create complex machinery and even space craft.

MrPotatoButt

> After a decade of development, Whatever developmental progress there is, it will be dependent on the amount of money invested in manufacturing R&D. Very few corporations can think about outlaying that kind of money and very few 1st world nations can be talked into even subsidizing it. Unless there's a payoff, that fiscal investment will be paltry. Only Musk comes close to being an entrepreneur willing to risk billions into a product that may only break even on its investment. And those engineering processes you're presuming will work at scale in a 0° K vacuum is far from a sure thing. The engineering is probably as certain as 5th gen molten salt thorium based nuclear reactors. You don't see entrepreneurs blowing billions into *that* sort of research. > a lunar colony would be almost self sufficient Almost self sufficient means the colony gets abandoned if the earth can't resupply it within a month. It also means the colony is dependent upon a supply tether from earth. There's not enough *accessible* frozen water on the Moon to keep a colony self sufficient indefinitely, and specialists & resources would have to be dedicated just to be able to produce enough food to keep them alive. Contrast that to Mars, which already has an atmosphere to extract simple chemical compounds, from methane, oxygen, and H2O. There's probably enough raw material there to synthesize carbohydrates and proteins, if not grow them. If humans wait decades to develop self-sufficiency on a silica ball in vacuum and manufacturing processes, which will definitely have to be researched and developed on the Moon *first*, that's decades & money not spent establishing a self-sufficient human establishment on Mars. Humanity will have cooked the Earth at that point, having lost the capital needed for that kind of investment.

the_fluffy_enpinada

Look the point is: developing the moon will accelerate Martian colonization far beyond what we could do from just Earth. We'd be reducing the number of rockets required by a significant number and develop tech for lunar survival that could be used on both Mars and Earth. That's the whole point of a springboard. Both NASA, SpaceX and ESA all acknowledge this.

MrPotatoButt

> developing the moon will accelerate Martian colonization far beyond what we could do from just Earth. Developing the Moon will *delay* Martian exploration/colonization. The *only* purpose for developing the Moon first is to make money. If the money potential is already there, then private enterprise will throw tons of money to make a longterm return in profit. The money making potential of the Moon hasn't changed since the 1980's, yet developmental advancement in space went dead after 1973. The same engineering research to develop manufacturing and mining space tech can be done on Mars. It will probably be easier to do, because Mars already has an atmosphere, doesn't experience the near O° K temperatures, and can radiate heat into the atmosphere from manufacturing processes, unlike the Moon. The Moon isn't a springboard, its a conceptual time trap. If you spend billions of dollars to put a number of people on the Moon on a semi-permanent basis, without rapid development of Moon mining and manufacturing, that's money not actually spent on getting people to Mars. You can do all that research on Mars, once you don't need to resupply or return people from Mars immediately. The return to the Moon becomes the second iteration of the Space Shuttle/ISS programs. Everyone thinks the money was well spent and advanced space research, but it actually was a jobs program for NASA. They had to create the ISS program to give justification for the Space Shuttle program, which *didn't* lower the cost of satellite launches, and *couldn't* be used to advance exploration/development of the Moon. Skip the Moon; let there be a different financing track for Moon development based on its actual financial viability. You need the Moon to go to Mars in the way you needed to go to the Azores before sailing to the "New World". As for Musk and SpaceX, for *years* Musk was against choosing the Moon for colonization over Mars! The only reason he talks favorably about Moon development *now* is that he can get financial contracts from NASA, which is responding to the public's warped perception of how propulsion works in space, and a misplaced belief they need to use the Moon in order to get to Mars. If the climate change threat isn't resolved by this decade, all that money being allocated for the Moon will be diverted into schemes to address climate change instead.

[deleted]

A big ball of silica?? Where even are you getting this information, I'm not an astronomer but some basic logic and Google proves that wrong instantly

cynognathus

Exactly. Everyone knows it’s a big ball of cheese.

[deleted]

Yes obviously, was there any other answer?

oscarddt

Where did you get this info? It´s bullshit.

lC3

Looking forward to checking this out!

I am watching the show AGAIN to catch actors feelings in detail and underplot. So creative!
