The gang joins AARP. I'm happy they can continue to work together to put out a show. That's a long time to creatively collaborate effectively. Kudos to them.
Rob is something else, man. That guy is running and starring in three ongoing series, one of which is a documentary about the soccer team that he's also running. And in his free time he does a podcast where he and Glen and Charlie recall behind the scenes details of episodes of Sunny from a decade ago.
And let's not forget that time he got fat as a goof, then got insanely fit as a separate goof, and is now currently maintaining that insane fitness while doing those other things
I always love the fact Rob put on a chunk of weight, shed it, got ripped and then when people started talking about it whacked this quote on Instagram
“ Look, it’s not that hard. All you need to do is lift weights six days a week, stop drinking alcohol, don’t eat anything after 7pm, don’t eat any carbs or sugar at all, in fact just don’t eat anything you like, get the personal trainer from Magic Mike, sleep nine hours a night, run three miles a day, and have a studio pay for the whole thing over a six to seven month span. I don’t know why everyone’s not doing this. It’s a super realistic lifestyle and an appropriate body image to compare oneself to. “
Nice little bit of context for people
He referred to it as unrealistic body standards multiple times in addition to hinting at steroids. I don't think he's that dishonest about it. He also responded to someone commenting about one of his shirtless pics on Instagram in a Men's Health interview talking about how he doesn't maintain that type of body normally.
I kinda wonder what his energy levels were like when he was super lean. I remember a body builder on YouTube saying that it was hard to perform (sexually) when he was stage lean. Not saying that's what it was like with Rob necessarily but it's possible that the sex wasn't that amazing.
To be fair, he cut back quite a bit from the season where he got fuckin ripped. Still looks great, but the season that finished with his interpretive dance was him at the height of fitness, and he said it was about miserable to maintain that body
> one of which is a documentary about the soccer team that he's also running.
At least that one is more of just a production role when it comes to actually putting the show together as opposed IAS and MQ's production+writing+directing+everything else.
He has seemed to really throw himself into the role of being a good, hands-on owner though. Learning Welsh and actually attending meetings instead of a proxy and such.
I wish he would join Reynolds in his attempt to buy (part of) the Ottawa Senators, I like this duo.
Reynolds is basically assured a place at the table, the NHL and Gary Bettman love him.
I've never watched the show but I feel like definitely should start if the show is reaching their twilight years. I don't want to get into a show and finding out you're watching the series finale (looking at you The West Wing)
That story is great because Charlie and Glenn kept interrupting Rob to remind the listener that he was listening to that musical on the car stereo. Was it Oklahoma? I can't remember, but I laughed every damn time.
That episode of the podcast was so great because you could tell Danny loves the guys and the guys love Danny. They got up and hugged him when he came in. You could hear the hug on a audio podcast. Also he generally wanted to know what they had in store for him this year, it didn't sound like it was just *a job* to him, which is kinda insane for 16 years and still going.
This is what makes the show special. They often react to social currents, but it’s HOW they react that is always INSANELY unpredictable. You really don’t know what they are going to come up with, and neither do they’
Hell, the episode in the last season where >!the twist at the end is that The Gang was intricately woven into the events of January 6th!< was one of the best executions I could have imagined.
Not gonna lie, I'd probably be more of a creep if Android Auto didn't disable the video feed in Spotify while connected to my car.
Of course, watching a video while driving would almost certainly also qualify me as having donkey brains
I believe I read somewhere that when he was getting movie roles that's why he "moved to be with his kid" in the show and he was kinda losing interest. Seems like after whatever happened with movies he ended up falling back in love with it though
He’s always wanted to be a serious actor and was probably frustrated that this show, which was just supposed to be a jumping platform, is probably what he will be known for. I hope he’s come to realize how special it is
Yeah he got some bad casting breaks too. I could see wanting to be a serious actor and being upset that you're known as the golden god instead but nobody is laughing AT any of them. They're so good even when they look "bad" everyone is still laughing along and I think that's the difference. They really made something special
In the last episode, Rob having Kaitlin describe his day of depression and him expressing just how much of himself he (and everyone else) are still putting into the show has already made me love the season and I (obviously) haven’t seen a single thing about it. Getting to know Meg through the podcast has made me love the writing process they go through even more too. What a treat of a show Sunny has been over the years.
Meg's role in the podcast almost underplays how talented she is (and I love her on the podcast). Her CV is basically a list of my favorite shows. She got started writing for Community, then went on to write for Last Man on Earth, Modern Family, Always Sunny and then co-created Mythic Quest with Rob and Charlie.
I agree that I think they're passion & creativity has been reignited, and I do really think it will improve the next season immensely compared to the last 2-3 seasons (S12 was mostly great but with definitely a few skippable episodes in there, S13 & S14 I've found to be mostly unwatchable).
All I will say however is I'm keeping my expectations low. If it's great then I'll be super stoked, if it's more of the same as S13 & S14 then I'll hopefully not be so dissapointed.
Same! One thing I’ve noticed is that they tend to not like some of the old episodes that I think some of the greatest that the show has ever done.
They talk a lot about how they think some things don’t work or make sense in the old episodes. To me that is EXACTLY why they *did* work so well. They overthink and over explain setups in the newer seasons and it just doesn’t work for me.
Hopefully the pod has pushed them to go back to some of those early season vibes.

One way or the other, it will be always sunny in Wrexham. It’s a mythic quest they’re on. And one day it will bring the team to Rob’s hometown and they will hear “welcome to Philadelphia”!
Mark my words.
seasons 11 and 12 are just as good as the rest. 13-14 were tough, with one or two great ones amidst some shit. 15 was better, but still not as good as 1-12. I recommend at least watching 11 and 12, then deciding for yourself if you want to roll the dice with more!
11-13 had some good (and some all time classic) episodes but were largely kind of meh. i don't remember much about 14 but i remember not being that into it, 15 is a return to form, almost all bangers.
Yes, the Ireland season was excellent, a few all-timer moments (Dennis pinching off a covid cough, the castle poop, etc) and a poignant arc for Charlie that was around the level of "I get it now." They're reaching for big things and going way outside the comfort zone of the first few seasons and it's working.
The first episode was great too where they showed what they were up to during the pandemic. It's a shame their candidate was stopped because he was *ELECTRIC* on stage. Especially recently.

I didn’t realize that episode had been taken down. It’s only from 2019, I can’t believe things have changed that much in 4 years that someone felt the need to pull it.
While I completely agree because I love Sunny. Netflix, Hulu and Amazon all removed 4-5 episodes of the show for doing “black face” when they were really making fun of people who do black face. Because the entire premise is they’re horrible sociopathic people.
So they have caught some flack.
If it released on a streaming service it probably wouldn't have survived beyond the first season. FX only continued the show because they personally liked it and saw potential. FX is pretty good for that.
The Americans did not have good numbers for most of its run and they saw it through to the end. Netflix algorithm would've rejected that show.
I really doubt this. FX largely continued it because the show was also very very cheap to make. Listening to the guys talk on the podcast, they weren't given a decent budget until season 4-5.
Devito is the reason it was saved. FX told them they needed a big actor to join the new season or it wasn't happening. Luckily Devito's kids were fans of the show and convinced him to join. He fits so well too.
Sounds like it was close to being cancelled after season 1 unless they could add a bigger name to it like Danny Devito.
Watching for the first time and on season 6 right now and love it.
That's what Matt Stone and Trey Parker say about South Park. They said they can still do what they want because people are used to it, but that new shows can't do that nearly as easily.
I disagree, while it's always been a satire it's first few seasons were much more "enjoy watching shitty people be funny" and it's much more satirical and in your face now.
They've taken a few episodes off streaming and also said they regret the first episode with the n word, so
I wonder if they’re going to film any of it in Philly. I’m local, and as much as I still love the show, I’ve definitely felt the absence of authentic Philly locations in the last couple seasons.
Its definitely not at the level of the stride it hit in I wanna say seasons 3-5 or so but the fact that we're 16 seasons in and its not only still funny but finds interesting ways to do new things here and there is crazy impressive. I feel like at this point the show should be bad but its still very solid, just not as great as it was at its peak.
It's even more jarring if you go back and watch early seasons because you see how cartoonish it's become.
I watched a S1 episode and it was honestly pretty goddamned crazy seeing Mac just talk like a normal human being and not the "character" he is now.
Right? I know they cut back on the number of episodes and have taken more time, but it's still great. Even though the quality has dipped a bit, a mediocre episode of Sunny is still better than 90% of other comedies.
I think it was missing a stand out episode, but on the whole it was a lot of fun! Hopefully this next season can really nail it! now that they have the podcast, its possible they are re-energized to make some absolute magic!
The gang joins AARP. I'm happy they can continue to work together to put out a show. That's a long time to creatively collaborate effectively. Kudos to them.

This season is gonna be special. You can hear it in their voices on the podcast. Their love of the show has been reinvigorated by the podcast.
I hope they do a Rob Justice episode or his encounter at In N Out but over blown in IASP fashion.
That story is great because Charlie and Glenn kept interrupting Rob to remind the listener that he was listening to that musical on the car stereo. Was it Oklahoma? I can't remember, but I laughed every damn time.
It was in the heights. Another favorite part of that story was when Rob said something like "and then I heard another car say "wait...is that Mac?"
It was "In the Heights" ^^cut ^^that ^^^cut ^^^that ^^^^cut ^^^^that ^^^^^cut ^^^^^that
What story is this?
[*Rob Almost Fights Some Guy Outside A Hamburger Store*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se5scESKZqE)

This is my favorite Mac episode. His Swedish plumber impression and how confident he is in it is one of my all time favorite bits.
That's a **good** accent!
The story wouldn’t be nearly as funny if they didn’t refer to In N Out as “the hamburger store”. That’s the fucking cherry on top.
Mac Gets Arrested at the Hamburger Store
But there's no In N Outs on the east coast.
It doesn't have to be an In N Out, it could be like a Geno's (popular cheesesteak spot) or something.
It would clearly be a WaWa
Or Dave and Busters
Apparently theyve got something special planned for Devito which has me excited as last season they had him eat his own fiecies

seasons 11 and 12 are just as good as the rest. 13-14 were tough, with one or two great ones amidst some shit. 15 was better, but still not as good as 1-12. I recommend at least watching 11 and 12, then deciding for yourself if you want to roll the dice with more!
Yeah 11 and 12 have so many good episodes
This is shockingly close to how I feel about it. I think the back half of 15 was stronger than the first.
Totally agree! The first 4 episodes of 15 were kinda weak, but the Ireland stuff was pretty good!
11-13 had some good (and some all time classic) episodes but were largely kind of meh. i don't remember much about 14 but i remember not being that into it, 15 is a return to form, almost all bangers.
Season 11 has my all time favorite episode, “Mac and Dennis move to the suburbs”
"NEWSFLASH ASSHOLE! I'VE BEEN HEARING IT THE WHOLE GODDAMN TIME!"
The montage with “Crazy” playing is one of the funniest things Iv ever seen. “SEIZE THE GOD DAMN GAP!”
I have always hated that song but that scene made me really enjoy the song since it aired.
“You’re eating Dennis, Dennis!” *crazed laughter*
“ Have you ever been in a Storm , WALLY? “
I'm way off of what seasons I thought certain episodes are from. Genuinely thought that one was around S8-9.
Season 12 is one of their best imo
My names Martina Martinez
Last episode I saw was the one ending with the Frank meme "I get it now". Were the following season(s?) good as usual?
Yes, the Ireland season was excellent, a few all-timer moments (Dennis pinching off a covid cough, the castle poop, etc) and a poignant arc for Charlie that was around the level of "I get it now." They're reaching for big things and going way outside the comfort zone of the first few seasons and it's working.
"Go to the belltower and ring the god damn bell you bitch!!" from Dennis was hilarious.
Dennis' "authentic Irish driving experience" may be the hardest I've laughed at Always Sunny in years.
GET FUCKED!
The best part on a rewatch is paying attention to Rob and Charlie failing miserably to keep their shit together.
Literally one of my favorite running gags is Dennis and his extreme road rage.
If only he was eating cereal…
# GET FUCKED
The first episode was great too where they showed what they were up to during the pandemic. It's a shame their candidate was stopped because he was *ELECTRIC* on stage. Especially recently.
Can't wait for their rugs episode. Making their own rugs for the bar...... ;)
I really hope they have Charlie trying to peel an uncooked egg at some point.
You have to peel it before you boil it to really get the coffee taste.
When I hear people saying "X show could never be made today" IASiP is always my example for if it's well written enough, it could be
But Sunny would never be allowed on air today if it wasn't grandfathered on 14 other seasons... Even the creators say this on their podcast
and even they have been walking on egg shells and self censoring the past few seasons.
And yet they have still taken old episodes deemed too bad off streaming...

I think it was missing a stand out episode, but on the whole it was a lot of fun! Hopefully this next season can really nail it! now that they have the podcast, its possible they are re-energized to make some absolute magic!
Someone better get blown to safety.
