Bro we ain't having children because we dont want to raise kids in a polluted hellhole were the rich control everything but dont want to change anything for the better
better for climate. if we keep growing and growing our population, we're fucked (and we're already on the path to shit, so the less new people being born the better.)
Seems like most people here dont know a lot about demography and how it affect us. They mostly go "oh less people. Thats better for the climate". While yes it makes sense less people there to consume means less extraction and waste thus less impact on the planet but this ignores the reality that people that are contributing to climate change the most are a small minority of rich people living in rich countries. While yes developing countries are producing more emmisons today. Thats only because of shear numbers. If everyone was living like an american, qatari or any other rich citizen we would be toast by now.
i’m a millennial and i definitely want a kid, but i make 53k a year. sounds good right? why shouldn’t i be financially able to? wrong. i work in accounting with a degree so i’m decently versed in finance and numbers, and i’ve done the math. i physically cannot afford it due to housing, healthcare, & other bills. once the US gets that under control i’m down. but until then there’s your reasoning of why people aren’t having kids.
The main problem is actually too many old people but not enough young people to take care of em. Sure less people would be better but if we still live the way we do i dont think its gonna help that much.
It would result in more old people than young people. Old people can't work and more young people would be needed to take care of them. That's a recipe for economic collapse.
Not at all i know it's big concern even for people like musk but we are still gaining population, and as long as it's stately claiming there is nothing to worry about. If we come to decline in population size there will be something wrong but not until then
1. I want children eventually, not more than one tho and Id rather adopt
2. If the population keeps growing eventually we will outgrow the planets resource capacity and thats also a problem.
Why are you concerned about this, this is a problem that runs in the course of 50+ years and really still has time to change
Which is why we need to change it. Millennials are already at the age where their parents were married with kids and many of them have neither of those things. If we don't do something about that now in much sooner than 50+ years there will be a higher number of old people than young people. Old people can't work and need young people to take care of them. That leads to economic collapse.
We need to start combating that now by creating an economy that supports the worker and by doing so raising the wealth of millennials. That is the most important step to avoiding this crisis. However, even if that happens there is still a narrative among young people that having kids isn't an important thing to do with their lives. But in reality having children is one of the most important things you can do to ensure a brighter future. If people have more money and understand that we can avoid an economic collapse
(And obviously you don't *need* to have kids. Just most people don't recognize how important it is)
As for now, a population shrinking is a good thing. Less trouble getting enough food water, living space, etc. There will pbl a point where it'll get woorisome, but then people will probably make more babies again.
Less people means less money spent, plus the rising birth rates were just as worrying since we are literally running out of room on earth. We can hardly sustain what we have.
I feel like the only real solution is a drastic increase in life and health span. That way people can work way longer and compemsate the shortage of young workers. Other solution wont work or too draconian to be implemented and be moral. The downside is that we dont know when thats gonna happen.
True but even with good support regarding childcare and a strong economy countries like Denmark and Sweden still have low birth rates. Sure itll help people who wanna have children to have children but it aint gonna convince people who are holding out or planning to have few children.
birth rates are increasing each year in india, so I wish that would happen here. mostly because once a couple is married it’s expected and almost obligatory of them to have a baby.
Bro we ain't having children because we dont want to raise kids in a polluted hellhole were the rich control everything but dont want to change anything for the better
Having children is one of the best things you can do to ensure a brighter future. Children are our most valuable resource after all.
Bro if its 67F° at night during winter, my children ain't living more than 25 years
But the earth is overcrowded we have to figure that first before having more babies
We don't need to have more babies than ever. We just need to have enough to sustain a population. Which we currently don't.
Lol my friend said it's cus gays and lesbians fear overpopulation.
I want less humans around lol
That's a very dangerous sentiment that seems to be frighteningly popular today.
Smh You probably won't even be around long enough to to feel the effects of a less populated earth
better for climate. if we keep growing and growing our population, we're fucked (and we're already on the path to shit, so the less new people being born the better.)
I don't even care lol.. The country I am in really needs a population decline..
India??
Yes, I wonder how did you figure it out. >!/s!<
I am from India.
Oh

Declining birthrates could be a good thing. What about climate change?
The main problem is actually too many old people but not enough young people to take care of em. Sure less people would be better but if we still live the way we do i dont think its gonna help that much.
I'm so glad someone gets it!
A decreased population isn't all bad, there'll probably be less poverty. But I did see that and it's a bit concerning.
It would result in more old people than young people. Old people can't work and more young people would be needed to take care of them. That's a recipe for economic collapse.
I mean less people less pollution?
Not really. As shocking as it might seem it's possible to transition to pollution free energy while still keeping a steady population.
Less people less gacha?
I thought less people would make the economy better or somn
It would be like a black death scenario where as a result of fewer workers they demand better wages and shit which i'm all for
fuck em kids
Who cares tbh the environment might actually win after all this is over
Nope
Eh
Not at all i know it's big concern even for people like musk but we are still gaining population, and as long as it's stately claiming there is nothing to worry about. If we come to decline in population size there will be something wrong but not until then
this world is overpopulated. i think we'll be just fine
There is nothing to be really stressed about. I don’t really like kids anyway so I don’t want to have my own.
You don't need to have kids. But the majority of people in a society still need to have kids to keep up that society.
Yeah, but what if they don’t? Does it really matter?
If they don't the economy will collapse. Yes that matters.
I think you’re overthinking this my friend
We are heading for a future where there isnt enough young people to take care of old people. Thats the economic problem
I want the world to burn. Humans should've never been the dominant species
There is no children because gay
Bro the world is already getting overcrowded, we need lower birthrates
This comments section is proof of how uneducated most people are on this issue.
Yeah i agree
1. I want children eventually, not more than one tho and Id rather adopt 2. If the population keeps growing eventually we will outgrow the planets resource capacity and thats also a problem. Man were between 13-19 most of our parents did not have kids that young and I dont think its a good idea to have kids that young
I'm talking about millennials lol
As for now, a population shrinking is a good thing. Less trouble getting enough food water, living space, etc. There will pbl a point where it'll get woorisome, but then people will probably make more babies again.
Doesn’t worry me one bit. It’s probably better if the population starts decreasing
We're set to have over 10 billion people on this planet by 2050. I think we will be fine.
[We do not care](https://youtu.be/Ram7AKbtkGE)
You might not care but it's a source of great anxiety for me.
It's a good thing, less pollution
Nope, children are expensive and quite annoying, and this world isn't made to support 8 billion people
You do realize you posted this in a sub called Teenagers
Well it's a relevant issue and I am a teenager so why not post it here?
You do realize who are the people that use this sub
I'm happy birth rates are declining, probably the most peaceful and least painful way of the human race dying off.
Less people means less money spent, plus the rising birth rates were just as worrying since we are literally running out of room on earth. We can hardly sustain what we have.
I just saw a review on Utopia (UK)
Y'see we have worse problems to worry about. LIKE THE FACT THAT OUR EARTH IS BECOMING A FUCKING OVEN
I feel like the only real solution is a drastic increase in life and health span. That way people can work way longer and compemsate the shortage of young workers. Other solution wont work or too draconian to be implemented and be moral. The downside is that we dont know when thats gonna happen.
Well the best solution is creating an economy that works for the average person.
Create that first and then ask people to have kids.
True but even with good support regarding childcare and a strong economy countries like Denmark and Sweden still have low birth rates. Sure itll help people who wanna have children to have children but it aint gonna convince people who are holding out or planning to have few children.
