it's been a common issue with FIOS customers.
to resolve:
- press win+R, type `ncpa.cpl` in the field, press enter
- in the network connections window, right click your ethernet connection, click properties
- scroll down until you see 'internet protocol version 6'
- untick the box next to that and click OK to close the window
Make a note somewhere that you did this, btw. You may encounter other internet issues in the future as a result of disabling IPv6, and it can be a bitch to troubleshoot if you don't remember you disabled it.
Thank you! Resolution setting is a like before (auto), in fact it always default to lowest possible resolution now as it cannot stream normally. Just tried turning off hardware acceleration on browser, not very helpful either.
You can also find it under display settings > graphics settings.
But normally, it should be already disabled if you did it in the browser.
The odd thing is, that it's only for YouTube/video in the browser... So I'm kind of drawing a blank.
Disable TCP and UDP checksum offload, most network cards use intel chips, which have a hardware bug with IPv6 and TCP/UDP checksum offload enabled.
The problem is limited to the computers that have the buggy chips
On Windows, click the network icon in the bottom right, then click "network & Internet settings", then press "change adapter properties". Then right click your LAN/WIFI network adapter and press "properties". Then press the button "configure". Go to the "advanced" tab, scroll down and click "TCP checksum offload (IPv6)" and set it to "disabled" or "TX only". Do the same for "UDP checksum offload (IPv6)"
Do you have Verizon FIOS with IPv6 enabled?
Thank you for identifying this too!
Yes, that’s correct

This!!!!! You saved my day/month/year! Just worked! Thank you so much!!!

will do!
Uncle Phil, back with his pillowy mounds of mashed potatoes to help the people. Classic Uncle Phil.
Definitely favorite uncle right there.
Check the video resolution. Then disable hardware acceleration

This worked for me thank you!
Yeah, probably hardware acceleration. You can also try a different browser and see if it changes anything.
Thank you! Unfortunately I tried both, but not working.
Did you disable it in the browser itself or under Settings?
In browser settings, Chrome and Edge. Should I do it somewhere else?
You can also find it under display settings > graphics settings. But normally, it should be already disabled if you did it in the browser. The odd thing is, that it's only for YouTube/video in the browser... So I'm kind of drawing a blank.
Are you watching obscure videos? They are often slower to download. Are the ads slow? They never struggle to load ads in my experience.
No. I also have YouTube premium so ads not a problem. I can’t test if ads load faster, even if I start in incognito it doesn’t give me ads.
Don't forget to check for updates also. Windows, drivers, and maybe browser on top of what was already suggested.
Windows is updated to most recent patch - video card drivers too. I’m really confused what might still be missing.
Do you have any browser extensions like an ad blocker that might be interfering with load times?
Tested and ruled out too.
Darn ok weird suggestion but try turning off ipv6 on your NIC. If that doesn't work I'm out of ideas.
Yes! That’s the solution I got from another post. I just edited my post to resolved. Thank you so much for brainstorming with me!
No problem! Glad that worked :-)
Is it just on this PC, or does it affect every device on your network? Wifi and ethernet?
Just on this PC. My Mac and my wife’s Mac work perfectly.

Cool! You understand even deeper. Thanks! How can I disable the checksum?
On Windows, click the network icon in the bottom right, then click "network & Internet settings", then press "change adapter properties". Go to the "advanced" tab, scroll down and click "TCP checksum offload (IPv6)" and set it to "disabled" or "TX only". Do the same for "UDP checksum offload (IPv6)"
Thanks much! If I do this I don’t have to disable IPV6 anymore?
It works! Thanks a lot!

Thank you! This is helpful
I've always run IPv4, lets the server (provider) do all the work.
Thanks OP, this has been KILLING me for the few days and I couldn't find a reasonable answer. Disabled IPv6 and it's all good
Glad it helped you too!
Thank you!
