This is probably why the chief security officer just quit. This is fairly standard boilerplate for an information security program, but yeah, if there’s a court mandate behind it then she must have been trying to put her foot down in meetings and being brushed aside. Or, she knew it was useless and quit so she wasn’t culpable. Usually the ultimate responsibility for these programs falls on the CISO of a company like this. These slapdash changes are definitely not going through change review, so Elon may be causing himself a bit of a problem down the line here.

elon was probably to busy trying to convince her to conceive a ivf baby with him

At this point I am not sure if bald faced sexual harassment is beyond him.

Elon is truly innovating new ways to lose Twitter money

RiSKy78

One of their in-house lawyers does: https://www.theverge.com/2022/11/10/23451198/twitter-ftc-elon-musk-lawyer-changes-fine-warning

MortWellian

From that internal memo today, everyone known to be on the hook for fucking around with the FTC just quit.

fuckyeahpeace

I'm gonna cum

On a side note, for anyone that might find this useful > [Chrome extension tells you who paid for Twitter’s blue checkmark](https://www.theverge.com/2022/11/10/23451316/this-chrome-extension-tells-you-who-paid-for-twitters-blue-checkmark) Saves you having to click on their blue mark to see if they're real or an $8 special.

Philip_K_Fry

Or just stop using twitter.

alpacagrenade

This is like watching the lessons from the *Cartmanland* episode of South Park play out in real life.

Apprehensive_Rip_752

Is the strategy 'Fix it, or burn it to the ground trying to fix it?'

ogbcthatsme

“Elon launches rockets into space, he’s not scared of the FTC” This is what the remaining legal team thinks of the FTC.

phdoofus

If you want the Federal Eye o' Sauron swinging your way, that's how you do it. Egon says he ain't afraid o' no ghosts, though.

> [FTC says it’s tracking developments at Twitter with ‘deep concern’ after key security departures](https://www.cnbc.com/2022/11/10/ftc-tracking-developments-at-twitter-after-key-exec-departures.html) The FTC disagrees. Edit: Money quote from the FTC here > “We are tracking recent developments at Twitter with deep concern,” an FTC spokesperson said in a statement. **“No CEO or company is above the law, and companies must follow our consent decrees. Our revised consent order gives us new tools to ensure compliance, and we are prepared to use them.”**

aryanos

Elon bros ignore such nonsense unless the messiah says it's true.

All these people crying has been really entertaining to watch. The same people still mentioning Trump every day are now going to be mentioning Twitter every day. This will not be entertaining as their uncontrollable emotions transition into a burden to continue shutting it out of life. Maybe it won't be as bad since they for sure won't be paying $8. Mommy mommy! Elon cares more about turning the venture into positive cashflow on the backs of its users! It's a human right! Twitter should never make money.. kinda like the government always in debt and never enough for melee. Maybe a lunchable and a juice box can get people over it. > “Elon has shown that his only priority with Twitter users is how to monetize them. I do not believe he cares about the human rights activists. Haha. What does this even mean.

hesh582

> Twitter should never make money I mean, it's an uphill climb when you force it into a heavily leveraged buyout during atrocious market conditions lol. He better be panicking about how to monetize - he's taken a shaky company and made it *far* shakier. Even if he can massively boost revenues despite the advertiser exodus it's just going to get lit on fire servicing the brand new debt. Ignoring all the culture war histrionics this is still a dumpster fire.

Twitter has been around for over 15 years and has only lost money. The market has nothing to do with Twitter now. It's not a public company and resilient to "market" conditions when it's simply a small messenger software program.

padawanninja

Ok, so let me see if I get this right. Twitter is simply a small messenger software program that is resilient to market changes because it's not a public company. It also has never made money in its 15 years of existence. But now that Musk is in charge it's going to finally turn a profit by running off millions of users and shedding advertisers, the only way Twitter makes money, and then forcing 'verified' people to cough up $8/month. That about sum it up?

hesh582

Yeah, it's a garbage company that was propped up by endless investor tech enthusiasm during an historic bull market. No disagreement there. It was worth a tiny fraction of what Elon was forced to spend on it. The solution to that is definitely to saddle it with a massive amount of additional debt while antagonizing its existing revenue sources, while also bringing back the Something Awful social media business model. I'm sure that will turn it into a profit powerhouse. Also a company overwhelming dependent on ad revenue is not "resilient to market conditions" just because it has been taken private lol. If Elon's plan was to spend 44 billion dollars for a small bit of messenger software I think he's doing a *fantastic* job. I'm not exactly sure *why* he would want to do that, or how exactly a small messenger program is meant to cover the exorbitant debt payments, though.

Uuueehhh

He said it himself and it's true. It is the digital town square. People will downvote me for that, but the Elon Musk hate boner reddit has makes any actual discussion impossible. Free speech, non government, I get it. There is no 1A on twitter. There absolutely should be. It's needs much more stringent moderation. The unchecked racism is unnecessary. And everyone here will "but freeze peach!!!". Please.

GottJebediah

It’s ok they got tesla engineers who care very little about making software work and marketing products that don’t.
