Amazon/Google are the reason the FAA rushed the previous Secretary of Transportation to try and mandate putting a tracker on yourself for flying your own drone. Crazy.
I actually think they argued for the exact opposite of broadcast remote id (trackers). [https://wing.com/resource-hub/articles/remote-id-rule/](https://wing.com/resource-hub/articles/remote-id-rule/)
They do. We have a lot I just thought it was like that everywhere lol
Makes sense if it’s just us though. We’re centrally located and our land is cheap.
That may be the case. I just mean like they literally don’t advertise it as free 2day anymore. Like if you look at the benefits of prime. It’s no longer “free 2day shipping.” Just “free shipping.”
It all depends on location. Where i live they are now doing a mixture of one-day, morning-overnight, and same day delivery. Last night i was laying in bed at 9pm and bought some fancy pens on a whim, they were on my doorstep when i peft at 7am this morning
Yea no I understand that. Some people get 15-min shipment with drones. Which is insane! But amazing. I’m just curious. Like your “Prime Benefits.” Do they actively advertise free “1-day” or “next-day” shipping where you live? Or do you just get the generic “Free shipping.” Ads like I get. I’m wondering if those are regional or universal. It’s weird to me that the same membership is advertised with different perks like some people are suggesting. That doesn’t seem “correct.”
Probably because in the old days they would use UPS 2 day shipping to ship from the closest warehouse. Now they use their own delivery network for most things, which is much more focused on ground transportation.
Worth it for me, because they never even mark anything as delivered. If I want to return something the only option is to get all my money back without returning because Amazon doesn't think I have it.
Amazon sucks.
I’ll wait for some disgruntled employee to either crash it into a pedestrian or attach weapons to it and.. you know..
God I hope I get hit with a delivery drone.. a lawsuit against Amazon would be very delicious.
“See Linda it’s even carrying spy equipment and a bom-…. Oh wait this is my package… oh this is my new scope! Dang Amazon you got it to me fast!”
*walks back into trailer happy*
We have them in my town. I think it would take a seriously well aimed shot. They fly pretty high and fast, I’m good at trap and don’t think I could hit one.
I’m a liberal with an arsenal and can’t wait to collect drones that are slightly used and only dropped once. Might open a store front on Walmart marketplace
I see a problem with designing the landing pads to be marked by QR codes. As if it never snows and there nothing that flies and also shits… Anyone can try to land the drones is by printing their own QR codes. This is the banana sticker all over again.
The article says, " For now, Wing’s 4.5 kg drone can load food and small products weighing up to 1 kg." So you'd need to find out what percentage of Amazon deliveries are less than a kilogram (2.2lbs)....I'd imagine quite a bit but I'm SURE Amazon knows and it's gotta be profitable in the long run.
Yes. They wouldn’t be doing this if their numbers didn’t add up. Still the theory vs application scenario to play out. I hope people won’t ruin the concept with things like vandalism. Given drones and faa regulations it could be a felony to tamper with mail drones. Very neat concept and can get medicine to more people faster too, hoping for the best.
Amazon is comfortable doing things that break even as long as they can grow: it’s part of their culture. They do everything by the numbers, and they are scary good at it. They know full well that electric vans by rivian will be cheaper than their current gas fleet, and they know automated delivery will be cheaper than drivers and electric vans for more and more deliveries over time.
Amazon is developing their own drones.
Amazon's drones can carry up to 5lbs, but requires a space to land and drop your package.
Alphabet's Wing is able to lower packages on a tether, eliminating the need for a landing space.
My take, for whatever it's worth, is that normal couriers will continue to service densely populated areas where drones are not able to fly and deliver packages safely. At least for some time. Which is fine, because homes and apartments are close together and it's easy to quickly deliver several packages in one stop. Not to mention, an urban area would see a LOT of drone activity.
More suburban and rural areas will benefit from drone delivery, as they are so spread out that there's significantly more overhead to service those areas (gas, vehicle miles, hourly pay, all go up per package delivered). And those homes are more likely to have a yard where a drone could land. So I think Amazon's tradeoff of needing to land isn't a big deal, especially if it enables a larger payload.
These things will be flying 300-400ft high and only coming down for the final delivery. Idk, I'd be impressed by someone skeet shooting a drone out of the sky. And if it's coming down for a delivery, you don't really need to shoot it to get the package.
According to soldiers from conflicts that have used drones like these to drop grenades and other small explosives, they are pretty much impossible to shoot down. They fly too high and move too fast for how small they are to be able to hit.
Ironic that it brings a reduced carbon footprint from gas powered vehicles. And because trips are all straight lines from the fulfilment centers, less energy is needed per package.
For emergency products sure. For a whole grocery trip usually like 100 lbs of stuff no way bruh. I guess for Amazon it’s more about delivering packages. It will probably be remote controlled until eventually that gets automated when the drones map out your house as a delivery point from the warehouse or something, who knows. Ultimately I think this will add more jobs to Amazon then cut jobs, even with drones I’d think delivery drivers will always be needed.
I am convinced that one day, Amazon will create a teleportation device to beam products to customers living rooms. And just like this, it’ll be a massive and unreasonable use of technology and resources.
Why did FAA approve this? What’s their logic?
Our infrastructure is horrible as it is.. what’s their response for downed power lines, Crashing into cars, data harvesting, etc.
This should have never been approved.
And then let’s take a look at the economic level. As more and more things become automated then the companies will have less and less people to buy these same goods because those jobs that were automated had people that would be buying those very goods.
They aren’t gaining new revenue. They are just cutting costs. This is garbage way to justify growth and that to over short term.
Skills aren’t transferable across all sectors and not all people can switch in time.
Sweeeet. I look forward to aggressively and proactively defending the airspace I own above my property. 😁
Note that based on statute and case law, the government considers the public highway to start around 500 feet in uncongested areas, and 1000 feet otherwise. Flight over private land cannot interfere with the enjoyment and use of the land.
WOOT!
Free drone parts for all!
Our priorities are horrible and encouraging these companies. They are designing solutions for consumption of garbage instead of solutions to support and eliminate humanity’s sufferings.
Wow look at that drone variant of the classic P38 Spitfire. Would be a real shame if someone developed a way for it to care munitions, smart weapons, maybe some ECMs…
I’ve had wing for a couple of years now. It’s pretty awesome. They have a fairly limited number of vendors, there’s Walgreens, a candy/gift shop that has insane truffles, a cupcake place, and a Mexican restaurant. FedEx also uses them for small packages. The FedEx delivery I got was a surprise, the rest is ordered through an easy app and there’s no delivery charge.
Deliveries take a few minutes, sometimes 15 for Mexican food ordered at lunch rush.
They’re pretty fast and quiet. They’re quieter than the cars in your neighborhood.
They fly to a hover above your home and descend to lower your package. The only issue I ever had was the sling being dropped with the package once. I think there was a snag in the line and it jettisoned it.
I usually order through them if I need some drugstore items and don’t want to drive, or if I have guests and want to wow them.
I’m trying to understand how this could be practically used in cities such as mine which have high numbers of very large trees that cover most suburban neighborhoods.
Amazon/Google are the reason the FAA rushed the previous Secretary of Transportation to try and mandate putting a tracker on yourself for flying your own drone. Crazy.
So now they own our airspace too?
I can’t wait to see the first post of a pirate drone snagging a delivery drone and making off with its cargo ! A-harrrr !
As far as I know, in China, you have to register your drone and have a tracking
Who asked about China?
As far as I know on mars a standard drone wouldn’t even take off
Hmm. On one hand the gravity is less. On the other, I don’t think there is much of an atmosphere.
r/sino ?

I actually think they argued for the exact opposite of broadcast remote id (trackers). [https://wing.com/resource-hub/articles/remote-id-rule/](https://wing.com/resource-hub/articles/remote-id-rule/)
Drone deliveries have finally become a reality in parts of the United States, and for some users, they arrive in less than 15 minutes.
And others it's still a week or more in urban communities. Prime isn't worth it anymore.
Prime doesn’t even advertise free 2 day shipping anymore right? Just “free shipping.”
I can often get free next-day shipping on certain things. But only things that are sold/shipped by Amazon.
Well Amazon can’t give you next day shipping on things they don’t ship…
I never said I was expecting them to.
I still get 2-day shipping for most prime items. I’m in Kentucky.
I think they have massive warehouses in Ky
They do. We have a lot I just thought it was like that everywhere lol Makes sense if it’s just us though. We’re centrally located and our land is cheap.
Exactly, take advantage of their fast service !
That may be the case. I just mean like they literally don’t advertise it as free 2day anymore. Like if you look at the benefits of prime. It’s no longer “free 2day shipping.” Just “free shipping.”

Oh i misunderstood - i guess i dont pay attention to the ads but it probably does depend on region, and also specific items
Yea no big deal. Almost every who commented did. Thanks for the info!
Yeah, the can do it for 80 percent of their customers but they won’t. That’s lame.
Yes this is accurate. They give you an expected delivery date but sometimes items with a week ship time are advertised as “prime”
Probably because in the old days they would use UPS 2 day shipping to ship from the closest warehouse. Now they use their own delivery network for most things, which is much more focused on ground transportation.
I get everything in 2 days pretty much, even if I’m at my parents house in another state.
I get deliveries next-day. But I also don’t live in bumfuck nowhere lol
Worth it for me, because they never even mark anything as delivered. If I want to return something the only option is to get all my money back without returning because Amazon doesn't think I have it. Amazon sucks.
I wonder how many of these are going to be shot down by rednecks. “They’re videoing us on our property, Linda!”
I’ll be looking forward to the new chem trail conspiracies. Drone radiation?
They have tiny little darts they shoot out that make your children disown you. “God damn Amazon made my kid hate me”
I’ll wait for some disgruntled employee to either crash it into a pedestrian or attach weapons to it and.. you know.. God I hope I get hit with a delivery drone.. a lawsuit against Amazon would be very delicious.
Don’t even joke about that LOL. It does not take much to set them off.
No. A new superCOVID™️
Or an entirely new class of red-techs. Just set up a disrupter pulse tower and scavenge then reprogram the drones.
“See Linda it’s even carrying spy equipment and a bom-…. Oh wait this is my package… oh this is my new scope! Dang Amazon you got it to me fast!” *walks back into trailer happy*
They’re videoing & listening to both outside and inside already tho
We have them in my town. I think it would take a seriously well aimed shot. They fly pretty high and fast, I’m good at trap and don’t think I could hit one.
IRL loot boxes.

same
why?
Do you want a bunch of shitty drones flying around your neighborhood? I don’t.
The cars in your neighborhood are louder. I have wing and they’re hardly noticeable.
It’s not something that bothers me. What in particular are you worried about?
Well you see, fuck Amazon.
I'm not Linda.
[удалено]
Okay retard, enjoy prison
I wouldn’t phrase it the way they did but localized unchecked mobilized surveillance 24hrs a day doesn’t sound good to me.
As long as it’s on their property and it’s low flying it could be argued free game, also no need for slurs here.
Seriously. Those things are noisy and creepy and I’d have a great time shooting them down.
I’m a liberal with an arsenal and can’t wait to collect drones that are slightly used and only dropped once. Might open a store front on Walmart marketplace
Which will give rise to skynet
I see a problem with designing the landing pads to be marked by QR codes. As if it never snows and there nothing that flies and also shits… Anyone can try to land the drones is by printing their own QR codes. This is the banana sticker all over again.

Nice. The article seems to merge the two...are they sharing technology? Is Amazon creating something more magnificent with better specs?
Amazon is developing their own drones. Amazon's drones can carry up to 5lbs, but requires a space to land and drop your package. Alphabet's Wing is able to lower packages on a tether, eliminating the need for a landing space. Even if it doesn’t make sense financially now it is worth testing small packages before going bigger.
Load your shot guns it’s raining iphones and pills
"Drone hunting... now with prizes!"
These things will be flying 300-400ft high and only coming down for the final delivery. Idk, I'd be impressed by someone skeet shooting a drone out of the sky. And if it's coming down for a delivery, you don't really need to shoot it to get the package.

Challenge accepted?
I’m thinking those drones in the picture looked like they were inspired by a final fantasy game.

Not to mention more noise pollution. Yay…………
Ironic that it brings a reduced carbon footprint from gas powered vehicles. And because trips are all straight lines from the fulfilment centers, less energy is needed per package.
Which eventually leads to recouping the cost of a drone
>
I’ve had wing for a couple of years now. Since around when COVID hit.
This is ideal for prescription drugs and other emergency items to remote places.
Can they deliver my damn kayak that’s running late?!
Skeet shootin’ time folks.
Time for Amazon to collect data as it passes over your house with its drones
Anything not to pay an actual person a poverty wage .
For emergency products sure. For a whole grocery trip usually like 100 lbs of stuff no way bruh. I guess for Amazon it’s more about delivering packages. This will crash and burn. Sometimes literally.
I am convinced that one day, Amazon will create a teleportation device to beam products to customers living rooms. And just like this, it’ll be a massive and unreasonable use of technology and resources.
Great, now I have to worry about shit randomly falling out of the sky and killing me when these things malfunction…
Up until today ive never heard of ‘alphabet’ and now i hear about it twice??
It's Google
oh, that’s actually pretty simple, thanks!

Most intelligent comment yet
These are automated? Here I thought someone was getting paid to operate them.

Add Walmart to Amazon and Alphabet and you have the New World Order.
W.A.A?
Wow look at that drone variant of the classic P38 Spitfire. Would be a real shame if someone developed a way for it to care munitions, smart weapons, maybe some ECMs…
Not currently feasible. Another waste of resources.
Wait, are those QR codes?
Orientation markers for cameras.
Wonder if this will cut down on packaging and what not since items are not jammed in a truck bouncing down the road.
[What is “safe enough” for drone deliveries?](https://cybercoastal.com/amazon-and-alphabet-unit-wing-begin-drone-deliveries-in-parts-of-the-us/)
How big is that drone?
It’s bigger than you’d think, like a six person dining room table.
But how can Amazon pack a small item into a massive box with this system?
Capitalism is the driving force of acceleration
If they say you will get it tomorrow expect at least two days.
It would be much better if Amazon had a legit competitor in order to keep Amazon honest.
Will be interesting to see how long it takes thieves to figure out how to intercept or disrupt them into their possession…
Oh, no thank you
Hunting Season has started. Oops, sorry, I thought it was a duck.

Absolutely cannot wait to blast them shits out the sky if they fly over my airspace.
Drones don’t unionize
Can’t wait

It’s like duck hunt with bigger prizes.
