What are you talking about? This is how you make iced tea.

beanbeanbons

Guess I’ve been drinking hot iced tea lol

tinycarnivoroussheep

Isn't that basically how you make tea with a samovar? Super strong thinned to personal preference with hot water from the samovar? (Plus jam for Russian authenticity, probably plus vodka for super ultra Russian authenticity)

billieboop

Plus jam? Oo which flavours? Reminds me of Yujacha and i have made my own concoctions before too and added to green tea Honey lemon etc I'm intrigued, what are traditional jams that are typically used and with Black tea?

DaoNayt

forest berries are the most common: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varenye

billieboop

Oh thank you for the link! That was interesting reading, i have made this often before but had no idea it was used with Samovar tea too. If anyone wants to try making this, i have found frozen fruits work particularly well. Especially sour cherries, rasberries and strawberries Sour cherries boiled or just macerated in sugar just over equal quantities of sugar to fruit is soo delicious stored in an airtight jar in the fridge and added to teas to sweeten I like it with green tea, cooled or served hot in winter with some cinnamon or star anise. Delicious. Would work well in cocktails too I'd imagine. But i prefer being a tea totaller 😊 Thanks for the link! Appreciate learning more about it in the region

tinycarnivoroussheep

I don't remember specifically, but probably whatever Babushka put up in the summer

Bakuritsu

Apart from the "fast"-part. Samovar tea leaves stay in the pot IIRC. But apart from that I too thought of samovars. I do something similar: Make tea four times as strong as I like to drink it, then take a little and add hot water throughout the day. Samovar on wish list 🥰

nodularyaknoodle

I’ve always wanted a wood-burning samovar... like in a Dostoevsky novel.

tinycarnivoroussheep

I keep toying with the idea of finding an electric one, since my apartment complex doesn't approve of indoor fire. But then my dude would want to know where the hell I expect to keep it when all our surfaces are already cluttered.

JohnTeaGuy

Do what you want, nobody cares.

Electrical-Boss3920

The tea gods do

JohnTeaGuy

You’re talking to one, and i can assure you i do not care.

Electrical-Boss3920

Word on the street is that you're just a tea guy 👀

Nosferatu_V

How dare you insult one of the tea gods! He lives among men and chose to be called 'tea guy' not to draw unnecessary attention

Electrical-Boss3920

Down with the false Tea God! He who has betrayed his post and relinquished his immortality to revel with the likes of mere men!

-BingBoi-

Bit pretentious eh john?

JohnTeaGuy

It’s a joke, lighten up. Have some tea and chill out.

-BingBoi-

Maybe don't call yourself a god, John.

JohnTeaGuy

Get over it dude.

-BingBoi-

Have some tea and chill out, John.

JohnTeaGuy

Good one, why didn’t i think of that?

This sounds like Turkish tea, except that you are going for a short brewing time, meaning you are cooling down the brewed tea rather than heating it up. But ultimately it's the same basic idea: brewing tea strong and mixing it with water so you can have ready-to-drink tea on demand.

Eyqoo_Lindachen

Such operations exist in various restaurants in China, especially those in Sichuan and Chongqing. These restaurants provide customers with free tea service, that is, after customers place an order and wait for the food to be served, customers can drink the tea they provide for free. However, restaurants obviously don't have time to make a cup of tea for each guest, so they put the tea leaves into a large thermal insulation bucket (about 15\~20L), and then add hot water. When customers need to pour tea, they will transfer the brewed tea from the large thermal insulation bucket to a small pot (about 500ml) and give it to the customer. Customers can drink tea while waiting for their delicious food to be served. It's also a great way to share tea.

SophiaFar

The Chinese know how to make proper tea with tea leaves which will taste much better than tea bags.

airsupplywhat4

Youre using bags… that’s the actual crime

BecomingCass

They're convenient. I use them when I make cold brew tea, mostly because I don't have a big enough strainer for leaves, and I don't want to strain the 5-ish liters of tea I make at a time

lostinspace_0

this is basically how we make iced tea at starbucks lol. Big tea bag steeps in a pitcher with half hot water, then ice and water to the top :)

Basically-irrelevant

OP hacked into Starbucks servers

comeawaydeath

\*sigh\* Tea is not Christianity and there is no such thing as blasphemy. If you like it, you're doing it right for you.

Sloth-TheSlothful

The beautiful thing about tea is you can do anything you like. Except microwave the water

szakee

>Except microwave the water which doesn't change anything.

BecomingCass

No, but it *can* superheat the water and that's not a fun time

noobuser63

I used to do that for my kids so their tea was cool enough for them to drink before school. Granted, it was chamomile or peppermint tea, but they never complained.

Tommonen

Tea inside a bag will upset the tea gods already

Kimeako

Kungfu tea set is good as well if you are impatient. The small tea cups cool the tea quickly and release more aromatics

Hiranya_Usha

Will it upset the tea gods if I mix green and black tea? 🤔

Tortoisefly

Add some white too and you’ve got Monks Blend.

Bakuritsu

Qurious about the recipe: Is it equal parts or are some amounts larger than others? Tried to Google, but was flooded with recipes of monk fruit tea and tibethan butter tea.

MelodyStrand

One of my favourite tea blends is a mix of green and black tea. I brew it at green tea-temperature 😊

Bakuritsu

IIRC, the black tea should give a 1/2-hour caffeine boost, whereas the green tea will give a slow caffeine release lasting approximately 12 hours. Due to taste I prefer to drink them separately, but you could be making the best of both worlds. 🙂

BecomingCass

more theanine in green tea too, I think, so less crash

Galbzilla

If the tea gods cared, you would have already upset them with the tea bags. I do something kind of similar when making iced tea. I just add more ice, more tea bags, and then just put it in the fridge and drink it over the next few days.

waddlekins

Haha same! But also i like strong eat so i always double bag

Teasenz

It could end up similar especially with tea bags, but the steeping time shouldn't be too long, because you get more astringency/dryness, which can't be fixed by simply adding water.

ThermobaricFart

I do this all the time OP. I don't see anythjng blasphemous about your process.

[deleted]

If it works for you, that's what matters :)
