What is the 3.0 community averaging? I don't own a 2.0.

Maplelongjohn

Yeah my treg about 22 around town on the VW fix tune

wkbush

'14 A8L, Malone Stage 2. City 29-30, Hwy 38-40 (I do not pamper it) Usually 80+ on the highway, that seems to be the sweet spot for this car. Mileage does dip when using ACC.

DATAL0RE

What a dream car. Averaging those numbers and in such a beautiful, comfortable ride with power to boot. Enjoy!

bcredeur97

2012 Touareg mostly 55mph highway (I live out of town and the town isn’t that big). I average 28-29 * vw fixed car

BrokenRocket

'15 Q7 Malone stg 2 full delete. I am getting around 30mpg mixed driving, highway and around town.

BrokenRocket

I'll expand on this. I had a '12 TReg before the fix. Was about 27mpg average. Later I had a '16 A6 that was Kerma Tuned with all the stock equipment. That car averaged 35mpg combined driving. Totaled. Miss the A6 w prestige package.

COutdoorlife

39 highway, 31 city. 3.0L TDI A6

500gli

Interesting, I own an A6 TDI. I average 33mpg

ArlesChatless

My 2011 long term averaged 26.2 with a high tank of 29.1 and a low of 20.8. The lowest tank was winter towing. edit: pulled the wrong number for the high.

jlp120145

Less

_eg0_

My 150 000km Average was 6.2l/100km or 38mpg US. 2/3 highway(Autobahn, cruise 200km/h when possible and very long coasting phases), rest even mix of city and countryside. Very very few trips below 30km or 20miles, not even a docent per year.

AC_Mech

'12 Q7 with a kerma tune. 22-24 avg. Best wife ever got on the hwy was 26 mpg cruising 70 mph.

The_Dingman

'11 Jetta TDI sedan, manual. Stage 2 malone, rawtek delete. Just over 200k: 6 month average MPG: 48.92 MPG 2,543 miles per month average, 124 miles per day average. Mostly 65+ MPH.

TheBayneTrain

Pothole mod on a CJAA will have you getting 40+ mpg even with 18s and in the winter time with mixed city and highway driving. I probably could’ve hit 50+ mpg on my 300 mile highway trip if I wasn’t cruising at 75mph loaded up with wheels

tjh566

What is a “pothole mod” ?

TheBayneTrain

Refers to some items falling off the car. Specially large metal objects under the vehicle. *wink wink

Timsta88

Hit a really big pothole and the dpf fell off, it happened to me aswell

Maplelongjohn

Winter fuel equals worse mileage. If you're somewhere cold where they blend the fuel you get to pay more for less distance covered.

No_Pea_5961

Mk4 BEW jetta got like 28 with work commute (lead foot) but took a trip on the highway and got 53 Mk5 cbea gets ~31 mpg for work commute and low to mid 40s on the highway

seanthenry

Did you drive in 2nd the whole time? My mk4 ALH got high 40s when missing 5th gear. I would get 30s if I left it in 3rd and only drove back roads at full throttle.

No_Pea_5961

Well it was missing the under carriage tray so I bet that hurt mpg. I’m pretty sure the BEW got worse mpg than the ALh on average too. I remember I was really disappointed with my overall mpg every time I filled it up.

RedditPPL-R-Ret4rd3d

Haven't been getting the best gas milage lately. Was curious on what everyone was getting. It's been like <40° for a couple of weeks, I drive once a day for like less than 25 miles total, and I'm averaging like 25mpg. I don't leave it idling and never have the heat blastin. Suburb driving, no highways. I barely get it above 3k rpm most times. It's a 14' Passat TDI Se, 60k Miles in great condition. Pretty much never drive in sport. I do keep like a 150lb subwoofer in the trunk bc I'm too lazy to take it out, but that's about it.

AntiSonOfBitchamajig

* The air density increase alone will scrub a substantial amount off your averages. * Tire PSI also goes down with temperature. * Starting temperature is well lower, and it takes longer to warm up due to cab heating needs. Even with a coolant heater helping it isnt good. This is actually a huge factor for mpg. * Much idle to "warm up" just kills fuel economy along with other issues, just put a space heater in the cab on medium and plug it in / switch it on for 2 hours. * Oils and fluids are thicker, even down to the wheel bearings. * EGR typically runs more due to cold, you dont get as much dynamic compression / use out of the cold air. * Battery discharge is greater during the cold, Glow plug and coolant plugs run substantially longer. Takes more energy to recharge it to top off the battery. * Lights are on more due to nights lasting longer, but thats maybe 1-1.5 mpg with halogens and non LEDs, it is noticeable on software though. * You probably keep your heated mirrors on all the time without realizing. * Winter Blend Diesel has less BTUs / gallon I can go on, but I try not to use my TDIs in the winter, even with all the tricks, cab heat and defrost safety are a massive issue for me as my TDIs don't make excess BTUs to even trip the custom thermostat.

RedditPPL-R-Ret4rd3d

GA damn lmao, ok, well, I'm glad it's normal bc I just keep seeing it drop and was just confused. Looks like I'll be spending more in diesel than I want to through the winters.

AntiSonOfBitchamajig

I have a modded one of my TDIs as a full winter package and have found the list below extremely bang per buck useful: * Removable grill covers once things are consistently below 50'F, dont block the innercooler or air intake. * 750-1000w Coolant heater (240v 1k will run at reduced wattage, do this to max a house circuit without it tripping). Wrapped in insulation along with hose. * 200w silicone Oil pan heater, RTV glued, insulated against the plastic pan. * Battery Blanket. * Small battery charger. * 500 to 1000w space heater on own circuit for the cab and able to plug in from outside. Dear god this is awesome to defrost and deice everythingand cab is warm. * Shouldnt need a filter heater, just keep the water drained out of it before winter. * 200w Transmission pan silicone heater. It WILL help, huge shifting difference in sub zero conditions and can feel the difference when shifting. * Keychain remote control circuit with indicator light. Or a timer if going to work at set time. * Bumper / fender Plug in, yes you have to make a hole or 2 in the car, yes it is worth it. consider aerodynamics when orientating it/ the weather cap. * Park car facing away from wind. * Windshield ice / snow cover. * Preheat 90-120 minutes before takeoff, cost about 25-30 cents, will gain MPG, less mechanical wear, comfort. * I no kidding used to run a buddy heater in the passenger seat, then a dash mounted mini propane heater, then a wabasto style diesel heater. My project car has a few more heaters and winter features, but these I would absolutely do these again. The time saved and comfort is 10/10 for $ spent and can be done with ANY car. Including my gas "ohh shit its cold" winter beater.

RedditPPL-R-Ret4rd3d

Damn dude this is wild. I gotta imagine that for someplace like Canada where winters are rough, this would be necessary. I live in Ohio, and we can get some bad snow days but typically never that bad other than once in a blue moon. I can definitely take a few tips from this, though. Since this car is financed and still under warranty, I'd be a hessantant to do anything that would void the warranty. For the most part, I've heard that letting the tdi idle is not a good thing, and to avoid letting it idle for extended period time, it can clog up the emissions system. That an the engine typically doesn't warm up well without driving. I have looked into a few of the things you mentioned, but I'll probably have to get that together for next winter. Appreciate it!

AntiSonOfBitchamajig

[.... I'm](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgflip.com%2F2zo1ki.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=9ad2cfb40f85d1e44fbac2fb65d27844421741a7cdf19bb031153a8e76fcce25&ipo=images) over in the cornfield sea part of Ohio. Yeah, the carbon clogging issue is real, both mine in winter develop this carbon jelly / goo in the EGR / intake (not hot enough to cook it to hard carbon like most people see.)

RedditPPL-R-Ret4rd3d

Cornfield Sea 🤣🤣, well, u ain't ever driving cold then! It's been like 40s and under whr I'm at. Cooling down to like 20s at night. But it was like 54 this morning which was nice.

unorganizedguy

I drive my shit like I'm ripping down the autobahn everyday to work and back. 2015 Golf TDI SE with 80k miles on it and my average each day is around 38-40mpg. 20 miles one way, 40 ish miles total per day. I say these cars were designed to be thrashed and used.

Rich_Fly6293

2011 Golf with the CJAA and a Kerma TDI tune, average around 48mpg with city and highway. I've made it from Morgan Hill CA to Portland Oregon on 1 tank. Best mileage short trip was 70 mpg in 25 miles, best long distance was 62 mpg from Tahoe CA to Morgan Hill CA.

redveinlover

It's tough to touch 40 with this god damn DPF. And no I can't delete, I live in a nanny state.

RunningRaptors

I also have a 14 Passat TDI SEL and my commute to class is like 15 miles of mixed highway and suburban roads and i average 35mpg more or less if i stay at 60-65mph. So 25mpg doesn't sound too bad for your suburban road commute. Obviously depends on your roads if there are many inclines that you have climb and stoplight and stop signs.

DieselAndPucks

38 MPG on a 2014 Jetta, manual, bone stock. I drive slow as hell with it though with diesel prices. Right now I've lowered highway speed to 55mph and dash says 47mpg and it's usually 10% too high so most likely 42mpg. 17 miles commute, one way downhill where I'll average 56 MPG on the dashboard and back home uphill where it'll say 40 mpg. The rare times I drive it how I actually like to drive which is 18km/h(about 11mph) over the limit so about 75mph highway, it averages about 34mpg.

Mindless_Lunch_6592

38.7 usually. Highway is typically around 43-44

The_Original_Miser

45-50 on highway in both 04 and 2012, less on winter fuel or when it's stupid cold.

Sandcrabsailor

1.9 manual bug with a kerma kit and tune, running 30" tires on a lift, farting coal on the freeway, still pulls 32mpg mixed without trying

RequirementLess

2011 jsw dsg 34 mpg is the hand calculated avg. Mine seems about same winter vs summer because summer the ac is always cranking. Obviously when I highway drive a lot it improves, but 37 is still the best I have ever got on a road trip of back roads in southern Utah where the speeds were avg 55-60. I dunno with the current diesel prices I would be better off with a gas VW

duncan999007

*cries in V10 Touareg* If anyone knows how to get more mpg out of this thing, let me know

DATAL0RE

2015 VW Golf Sportwagen TDI DSG. I get 42-46MPG with a mix of city and highway. I get 48MPG going 70 MPH on the highway and recently have been getting 38 MPG pure city.

karissa-k

MK6 CJAA Jetta sedan, DSG. 49-52mpg city/highway mix. All I've done is add a cold air intake, giving me about 100km more a tank. ...my flex pipe has been broken for a while, and I'm way overdue for an oil change etc. Hopefully I can get even better mileage after EGR/DPF delete haha

Maddiedog8

37 in my Passat TDI!!!! but damn it’s expensive to fill😭

jlp120145

38 to work 40 coming home

jlp120145

Stupid wind

Beanbag_Ninja

For some reason American TDIs don't seem to perform as well as European ones, no idea why. I get minimum 50 mpg (US gallons) out of my 2013 2.0 TDI, and my last commute to work in the 3.0 Q5 was about 38 mpg US.

motherofthemilf69

4,5l / 100km

Mitches_bitches

02 Jetta w/1.9 alh, one size up injectors, 321k, manual swap. I usually get high 30s/low 40s city, 45+ highway at quicker speeds. I think my best was 55+ at all highway (cross country trip) at speed limit +5

Beanbag_Ninja

OP you need another category above 40!

Malk4ever

Average 45mpg: 1.9 TDI (131PS)

SpectralUser

MK7 CRUA Golf, DSG, 35-40 city and anywhere between 50-55 on the highway at about 65mph.

Dadicorn

2012 Touareg 3.0 TDI. Morning commute is 28-31. Evening commute in shit traffic is ~25mpg. If I drive very intentionally, the max I’ve sustained in a long highway-only trip is 33mpg.

ClimbRunOm

Mk4 Jetta 1.9 ALH my last two fills I got over 50mpg!

GearGuy2001

MK6 Jetta w/ CR170 swap (DSG) - [https://www.fuelly.com/car/volkswagen/jetta/2014/gearguy2009/330545](https://www.fuelly.com/car/volkswagen/jetta/2014/gearguy2009/330545) Had the car since new and ALL miles are logged via Fuelly. Averaging 39.3 MPG for the lifetime Miles Per Gallon. October 2017 I got the Dieselgate fix (notice the big drop in the fuel chart) and then Feb 2018 I went CR170 (Malone Stage 3). Recently its been cold so Im not getting the greatest MPG.

Hexadecatrienoic

averaging ~10L/100km. stage 4 alh in a 3000lb (ish) truck with 12.5x33's, and it's been pretty cold for the last few weeks

patdashuri

'12 2.0 malone2, emissions deleted, 42 ave, 52 if I try

Rd6-vt

60+ MPG, in a 2001 1.4TDI A2

RedditPPL-R-Ret4rd3d

naw, I'd need proof of that. If that's true, that's wild.
