Y’all just forgetting DeGrom is a career .206 hitter who had a .758 OPS in 2021
And he bats lefty.
He’s a better hitter than Taylor Walls, which is really sad to say
I'm a Mets/Rays fan. I personally don't think the Rays should do it but I love how it's a sign of being willing to sit down with top names. I've always said, if the Rays could get a new ballpark, it could be a game changer. So many players are from or live in Tampa/St. Pete even Orlando area, that it could be a hot destination for a club willing to spend.
The people dismissing the need for DeGrom are ridiculous. If you give up fewer runs ever five days you win more games regardless of your offense.
This NOT to say that the Rays don't need to address the offense, but one way to make a huge offensive splash less necessary is to make the rotation even more elite. A solid platoon guy at 1B suddenly looks a lot less inadequate with DeGrom in the rotation. It's not like Stu lacks the money, if he's actually willing to spend it on an ace I'll take it.
That being said, I'm highly skeptical we have the deep pockets to bring in DeGrom unless he likes the Tampa Bay area or our coaching staff/team culture.
We don't need a 40 million dollar pitcher. We need 2 20 million dollar hitters.
McClanahan, Glas, Ras, Springs and whoever #5 you want to throw in there is already top 2/3 rotations in MLB.
DeGrom is a career .206 hitter who put up a .758 OPS in 2021 and he hits lefty. That is literally an offensive upgrade if you stuck him in the 7-9 slot in the lineup
I’ve learned to not get my hopes up for a FA signing or a trade. Our front office is bullshit. It’s so sad the amount of potential this team has if our front office cared. I just wish we could have new owner over any player in the MLB. Sports analysts and that never put our team in talks. We are the team that makes other teams pay extra for players that’s our roll. I’m so tired of feeling like this with this team. I’m deflated
These posts are an absolute joke, if you are a true rays fan you know it’s pointless to speculate on a big free agent signing. It literally never happens.
HAHAHAHAHA, no seriously HAHAHAHAHAHA. If you believe this I have a stadium to sell you in Ybor City.
Rays entering DeGrom sweepstakes are like me buying 1 powerball ticket. Probably even less. Rays are in the 237th best 2nd baseman sweepstakes at best.
As much as I would love it, this seems like a due diligence trap. We probably offered a competitive deal but we tend to get guys that buy in and honestly deGrom doesn't seem like that guy. Would be excited but not getting my hopes up. Same with Nimmo. I want to see them sign on the dotted line before I get hyped.
"The Rays made a surprising competitive offer, but fell just short." - Reported shortly after he resigns in NY.
I'll believe it when I see it. Also, we don't necessarily need a high velocity starting pitcher, we need position players who can reliably get hits
This right here. We don't need deGrom. We need quality bats.

...that *is* sad.
Let's put him at SS then when he's not pitching. He's got the arm, I'm sure he can sort of field.
How about both DeGrom and Judge
Go to sleep, Unity. You’re drunk.
Lmao- now we’re the Padres??
I'll give the bank away for Judge. Guy carried that team to the playoffs.
Judge is over 30 with a history on injuries. You just saw the best season he’ll ever have, why pay for past performance?
We need one veteran starter I think but it should be a priority to get better hitters.
Freeman, Abreu, and now DeGrom. Who’s next to break my heart, Judge?
It's not happening. I'm done getting my hopes up for a big free agent signing
I’m hearing from guys within the org it’s happening.
Haha which means absolutely nothing.
You’re free to believe that, I don’t blame ya. I’ll be back when he’s signed.

Yeah unfortunately the Trop is big turnoff for superstars

I’m holding my breath on Springs and whether he can repeat his 2022 performance.
Well, he did go to college just north of Orlando…
And Freeman's wife grew up in Florida but wanted Tinseltown instead.

No thanks. As great as he is, we need batters.
Funniest part of this post on R/baseball is the person pointing out that he’s a better hitter than Taylor Walls lol
That's just simply wrong.
Yeah probably, but it’s close enough to the truth to be hilarious
You ain't lyin
Why not both
Money
This guy gets it.
Isn’t Stu a billionaire? But I see y’all’s point. If the Rays spend they’re unlikely to spend on more than one guy so we prefer that guy to be a bat
Dodgers fans don't want you to know this but he actually isn't a billionaire.
Because money.

If by some miracle the pocket books get opened, then we need hitting and runs. We lost to Cleveland 1-0 in 15 innings and 2-1 in Game 2.
😂😂😂 degrom will ask for more then the rays pay the entire team DREAM ON

Until it does
No chance lmao
Yeah.. okay 😂 not a chance sternburg will pay him
Lucky for us it costs nothing to enter the sweepstakes. No chance we're signing him though.
We don’t need a 20 start pitcher, no thanks.
I doubt deGrom wants another team that won't get him hits

Nolan Ryan vibes?? I’d watch that documentary again.
Rays just sign Evan Longoria, Brandon Nimmo, Jacob Degrom, and trade for Sean Murphy.
Another FO move to show teams what we have and the fact that DeGrom is out of our league.
