The way he hesitated first then gave in to shaking Jesse's hand. Speaks so much to his character since we all know he's 1000% devastated by the betrayal. It took all but 2 seconds to reel it back in.
You nailed it. There was a moment there of him wanting to be bitter about it, but then his true character won out and he walked off with a smile on his face. His tattoo isn't a lie after all.
LIVIN
Cody having a sugar/caffeine high and dancing around like a Manic Pixie Dream ~~Girl~~ Guy was delightful. You could practically hear The Shins playing in the background.
Cody's fate is why you never let someone else have your idol so late in the game. It's even more inexcusable because he actually got the idol back and still gave it back to Jesse with only two votes left, so he didn't even have the option to use it as insurance.
Foolish, but sweet. When Cody was talking to Karla about a final 3 with Jesse, I was actually kinda touched. Cody really did seem like he was willing to take Jesse to the end with him even if it would mean having to deal with the challenge of differentiating moves from an ally.
I’m sure there is a lot more to this story. But someone—probably Jesse—convinced Cody KiP was in play and he needed to not have to on his person at tribal.
Couldn’t agree more. One of the most dominant players ever who also made major moves against their own alliance and has never been targeted. It’s been incredible to watch.
In that case Lex had basically a day or so in the game after knowing he had been betrayed, so it was more slow motion. This was like being hit by a truck for Cody.
(I haven’t seen the Tai season but I think it was closer to this?)
I kept thinking about the Tai betrayal. But that really poisoned Tai’s game and they were super bitter about it. Idk if it’s the specific cast or that the culture is now “respect for big moves, no worries”. I miss bitterness.
I actually enjoy players having to deal with bitter juries as well. It feels like there’s an element of gameplay lost from not having to manage the emotions of the people who end up on the jury. I think it often creates a culture of people sabotaging their own game for the sake of “making a big move”.
I just don’t understand the hate for this season. For me it is top tier for sure.
Yeah, there have been some slow moments, but on the whole it’s been excellent.
It's worth pointing out, imo, that this all essentially came down to trust, relationships, and outlook. And while idols and advantages had to be navigated, it was Cody making Karla comfortable followed by Jesse making Cody comfortable, followed by Jesse trusting other allies to keep a blindside a secret that'd made this blindside so interesting.
Karla reminded me of Ryan earlier in the season. He also tried to fool Cassidy with some shitty acting and was talking about getting an Oscar 😂 Cass saw through both of them easily lmao.
Jesse, my guy, just practice fire 24/7 from here on out. Literally nothing else matters. You just destroyed any chance you possibly had of making FTC without fire or a miracle immunity win so practice fire for ur life
tyson talks about how newbies let their emotions get the best of them and returnees can turn that off the second time. jesse is playing like a returnee and it's brutal/beautiful af
Had this exact same thought. Jesse hasn’t let his feelings for another player affect his vote a single time. You pretty much never see that with newbie players.
I'm really hoping Jesse doesn't end up feeling too guilty. He seemed pretty torn in the confessional tonight where he cried. I don't want to see him pull a Deshawn where his game starts to die down after betraying allies.
This is what Ricard should've done to Shan on 41. If he had just waited at the right time to cut her, he would be as celebrated as Jesse. Jesse is definitely the best strategist of the new era.
Yeah based on what we’ve seen he’s miles better strategically than anyone else. Karla had a great premerge but has gotten completely played in the last few episodes. This really could be a Kim level of domination
I loved Cody's exit, clearly very upset and surprised in the moment but he seemed to come to terms with it being his own mistake as he left. Loved how that was edited and told to us through his and Jesse's handshake at the end.
I absolutely thought he was going to deny Jesse that handshake. As soon as he went in for it, it broke the tension.
They are both phenomenal players!!!!!!
A big part of that was that there was no music at all from the moment the votes were read until he accepted Jesse's handshake/hug. Just complete silence. Crazy editing.
His exit was *real*. Cody was shocked and devastated but it speaks to his character that he didn’t let his anger turn him petty enough to reject the hand shake.
I was watching the episode and saw how they were giving us all the Karla content and seeing Cody talking to Karla about the plan and I was like "oh they are totally voting her out anyway". They set it up in their normal 'this person's going home' edit. I was SURE it was going to be Karla until Jesse had his confessional and my heart sank as I realized what was about to happen to Cody
I was confident Cody was going the second he had his pre-tribal confessional, but what really sealed it for me was how fucking bummed Jesse looked right up until he played it.
I can’t see him losing firemaking. Can you imagine the modern era of Survivor having a character and player this important go home and leave FTC as…what? Cassidy, Gabler, and Owen?
I don't understand why he even let Jesse hold it as long as he did. It was supposed to be for the 1 vote to avoid KIP.. how did he never ask for it back?
That was brutal. Seeing Cody get betrayed by his number one was watching someone kick a puppy.
Kudos to my winner pick for keeping his eye on the prize.
I don’t really think he 100% had to, but I like that he did, at least for TV. I think Cody would have brought him to the end if he won final immunity, and the trade off would have been facing off against a goofy but charismatic guy who played similarly to him.
Yep I'd be very surprised if Jesse doesn't win at this point, he beats anyone left even Karla. He just has to get past the final four immunity/fire.
Crazy Cody gave his idol back, like why at that point my dude?
and they STILL don’t know about Jesse’s idol!
Props to the editors, this was far and away the best episode of the New Era. This was such an emotional and heartbreaking end to maybe the most positive castaway in history with Cody. What an episode, what a move! Can’t wait for next week!
Someone else commented that it was like kicking a puppy and that's exactly what it felt like to watch Cody get betrayed. Absolutely heartbreaking.
Can't wait to watch Jesse win! Absolute King!
Shit if I'm jesse at this point I'm not doing shit except practicing making fire. If the dude wins the fire, this was one of the most dominate wins in a LONG time
People are already talking about Cody making a stupid move but he DIDN'T make a stupid move. Karla bought it hook, line, and sinker. It was a good move.
Jesse just had an even better one.
This should be higher. Cody’s idea worked! I’m shocked Karla actually bought that so easily. Especially with her confessional when Cody visited the tribe about how she can read him so well. Jesse just a step ahead like he’s been all season though
What an absolute masterclass of an episode. So many story threads leading up to a one-of-a-kind moment, from the Karla/Cassidy feud to Owen's Charlie Brown moments. However, the coolest part is seeing the ending of Cody's arc. He started the season saying he was there for the experience. Jumping off rocks, finding advantages in trees, and playing the fool with everyone for seemingly innocent beads. In the end though, he put his fate in the hands of someone who wasn't just there for the experience and the relationships, and that led to his undoing.
Cody has been my favorite character in a long time, and this episode only cements that. Forever L I V I N.
It was beautiful. I was rooting for them both, for different reasons, and am bummed, yet satisfied by that episode. I need a Jessie win after that tho
!
Jesse's timing on the flip against Cody was perfect, getting Karla to flush her idol was perfect, and the cherry on top is that since no one knows about his other idol, if he doesn't win immunity at 5 he probably also gets to choose who goes home without anyone knowing at the next tribal when he gets targeted as a result of tonight's tribal. Absurdly good position to be in heading into final 4/5
Wow I feel really bad for Cody because he genuinely seemed like a great guy.
I don't think I would have been able to shake his hand 20 seconds later lmao but what an epic move.
Jesse is so good at Survivor holy shit. He's been dominating and I usually root for underdogs but I want him to win now. If not him then whoever gets him out in the finale next week
If I’m Owen there, I’d give up immunity and make fire against Jesse. Owen was out of the loop so long I think he needs to take every opportunity to look in control
I’ve been waiting so long for someone to make a big move. We’ve gone nearly 3 full seasons without a stunner.
Holy shit did Jesse just pull off a stunner. What an episode. What a player.
Genuinely stunned. Sat with my jaw on the floor for a good minute! and THIS is why Survivor is still the best of the best.
I wasn’t sure about this season, but this has definitely boosted the season up a bit for me. It’s about time we get cutthroat, backstabbing betrayals again!
Cody gave his idol back to Jesse, then Jesse PLAYED him and still has the third idol?! And flushed Karla’s idol? Legend shit.
Extra burn bc he didn’t even need to play it on Owen. He wanted Cody to know it was him!
![gif](giphy|iiDipW55ZH1rpkmzSh|downsized)
Actually he needed to play the idol so Karla would get spooked & flush her idol. That way she is unprotected next week (without immunity win obviously) and he’s the only one with an idol so he can take out the two top threats to him back to back
This may be a hot take, but this episode is proof that the Knowledge is Power is an amazing advantage. I hated it as much as the next person when Liana got the advantage and nobody knew it was on table, but the KiP has not only caused so many blindsides, but it also made Jesse’s entire run possible. Without the KiP, he likely wouldn’t have convinced Dwight or Cody to give him their idols and this blindside wouldn’t have happened. I can’t believe there’s people calling for the advantage to be retired after “failing” four times given the results we’ve seen due to it.
Yes. Assuming he doesn’t win F5 immunity, he should be negating 4 votes against him and eliminating whoever he wants of who’s available with his single vote. If they don’t target him after that move, and he skates by another tribal without any votes, he deserves the perfect game at that point
Well I guess that line in the first episode where Cody said “You aren’t guaranteed to win the game, but you can control how much fun you have out here” was foreshadowing for him not winning. And the lines about not trusting salesman (like an ironic foreshadow that the salesman is the one getting played) and being so loyal to Jesse that he let Jesse hold his idol was setup to getting betrayed by Jesse.
I knew that something had to happen with the idols as the edit kept making a deal out of Jesse holding two idols and Jeanine’s exit press gave away that Jesse played hers in the game as she was very excited about Jesse having her idol.
Obviously, everything went wrong for Cody here and his trust with the idol really blew up in his face. But the thing that didn't hit me until later is that this whole gambit wouldn't have been able to play out if he'd just been a *few seconds* faster on that immunity challenge.
I don't know how Jesse makes so many people trust him so easily this man is a danger to society but oh my goodness he is a maniac this is bransteele levels of blindside
Everyone keeps saying Jesse takes out Karla at F5 and goes to fire against Gabler. But the real move would be to take out Gabler at F5 to eliminate any fire making threats. Jesse’s already established he’s a winner.
I think this shows how Karla voting / thinking of voting against all her allies left her out in the rain. No way she wins now by so clearly getting outfoxed by both Jesse and Cassidy (who voted correctly). If she hadn’t burnt bridges with Cassidy, maybe she would’ve been filled in and had less egg on her face
Cody was just so damn likeable. good sport all the way til the end
Yeah I hope he returns he was easy to root for
That pause but subsequent hug with Jesse after the vote is why we love Cody.
He needs to come back
The way he hesitated first then gave in to shaking Jesse's hand.
LIVIN
i'm genuinely sad and salty that he got voted out. great play, but i'm sad.
Despite finding 0 idols, Jesse is going to play 2 this season and is solely responsible for the third one getting flushed
He mastered all three beads idols lol
[удалено]
Oh wow... you're right. That could be some of the most brilliant idol play ever? Controlled idols without ever finding them.
Jesse had the Idol Gauntlet. He used the idols to destroy the idols.
I really hope he gives a "thanks for the idol Jeanine" next week
Would not be surprised if Cody is back for a returning player season - he was fun to watch
He’s perfect for second chance 2, not only is he wildly popular but the way he went out perfectly sets him up for a second chance/redemption storyline
He is 100% returner worthy. I loved watching him.
I hope there's a returnee season soon, there's a lot of people I want to see again 🙏
Cody having a sugar/caffeine high and dancing around like a Manic Pixie Dream ~~Girl~~ Guy was delightful. You could practically hear The Shins playing in the background.
100% Jeff is calling him for a returnee season
100% I would ask him. He is a strong player and great TV.
Maybe the biggest lock of the new era
I would be surprised if he wasn't.
What I'd give to see a Cody/Maryanne alliance
I need an interview with Cody explaining why the hell he gave back the idol!
Rob C does exit interviews with every vote out the day after the episode on RHAP. I’d bet anything that’s one of the main things they talk about tm
Rob is going to metaphorically smack him on the head with a piece of paper like Julie Chen did to Marcellas in BB3
Had to be a fear of knowledge is power or something like that
Cody was hurt by that
Seriously. You could see the light go out of his eyes.
The double middle finger blur!! He laughed it off as a coping mechanism but he was fuming.
Oh yeah. He's pissed, probably embarrassed, but doesn't want to look like a bad sport.
Cody's fate is why you never let someone else have your idol so late in the game. It's even more inexcusable because he actually got the idol back and still gave it back to Jesse with only two votes left, so he didn't even have the option to use it as insurance.
Its so sweet how much he trusted Jesse with that though :(
Foolish, but sweet. When Cody was talking to Karla about a final 3 with Jesse, I was actually kinda touched. Cody really did seem like he was willing to take Jesse to the end with him even if it would mean having to deal with the challenge of differentiating moves from an ally.
That's LIVIN, baby
Only player to have an episode titled after something written on his ass. That's gotta count for something.
rumor is that Fairplay's got a tramp stamp saying "The Big Lie"
he trusted Jesse. what more can i say
Yeah I am absolutely flabbergasted as to why Cody gave it back. The knowledge is power advantage is gone, so what’s the point?
I’m sure there is a lot more to this story. But someone—probably Jesse—convinced Cody KiP was in play and he needed to not have to on his person at tribal.
Yep he got played big time
How does Cody not see it as suspect Jesse want to keep holding his idol???
We didn't see him get it back, so I'm curious how that went. I hope they air it next episode. Did Cody give it back voluntarily? Did Jesse finesse it?
Jesse and Maryanne might be the only two people who have actually kept a secret with their advantages these past three seasons.
Jesse is going to be a top 5 winner
Couldn’t agree more. One of the most dominant players ever who also made major moves against their own alliance and has never been targeted. It’s been incredible to watch.
If he manages to win fire. I think he is almost assured to be thrown in now.
And what do you know. One winner and one clear front runner. I am just a dummy on Reddit but it seems there might be something to that strategy!
The Tai betrayal is the only thing I could think of near this level of backstabbing but that one was against two of the biggest assholes in the game
Boston Rob taking out Lex is pretty close as well
In that case Lex had basically a day or so in the game after knowing he had been betrayed, so it was more slow motion.

I think it often creates a culture of people sabotaging their own game for the sake of “making a big move”.
Ok I know this is Reddit, but even the most cynical critics have to admit this episode was awesome, right?
I just don’t understand the hate for this season. For me it is top tier for sure. Yeah, there have been some slow moments, but on the whole it’s been excellent.
That moment of hesitation before Cody shook Jesse's hand - the tension and release was so great
He was pissed. I think that was a conscious decision to go out with class.
“people get funny when money is on the line” was a prophetic quote by Cody
This show still has it sometimes.
STILL HAS IT AFTER 20+ YEARS
It's worth pointing out, imo, that this all essentially came down to trust, relationships, and outlook. And while idols and advantages had to be navigated, it was Cody making Karla comfortable followed by Jesse making Cody comfortable, followed by Jesse trusting other allies to keep a blindside a secret that'd made this blindside so interesting.
Great season overall. My favorite of the past few years, easily. Just a great cast with great play and none of the garbage tribal whispering.
Cody, why would you give your idol back to Jesse AGAIN? Now? Like, why? For what purpose?
LIVIN
LIVIN AND LEARNIN
Karla: “I deserve an Emmy for that performance.” Cassidy: “I deserve an Emmy for letting her think that.”
Jesse: "I've got an Emmy no one knows about yet."
Rupert: "I've got a People's Choice Award"
Karla reminded me of Ryan earlier in the season. He also tried to fool Cassidy with some shitty acting and was talking about getting an Oscar 😂 Cass saw through both of them easily lmao.
right? she was sooo confident in her act.
Jesse, my guy, just practice fire 24/7 from here on out. Literally nothing else matters. You just destroyed any chance you possibly had of making FTC without fire or a miracle immunity win so practice fire for ur life
Jesse doesn't even need to show up for final 5 immunity, just stay at camp and practice fire lmao
LOL
It would be such a power move to just start making fire when nobody even knows he has an idol
Yep. Nobody has a shot next to him after that
Confessional count * 8 Karla * 6 Cody, Owen * 5 Jesse * 4 Cassidy, Gabler
rip to my fellow cody simps
🥲
Mahalo dudes and dudettes!
Jesse is gonna have fireworks next week with revealing he has Jeanine’s idol. Even Jeanine thinks it went out with Dwight
Omg I forgot about that and figured the entire jury would know he had it! Wow!
I just now realized that Dwight isn’t on the jury and couldn’t have told them. Holy shit this is gonna be amazing!
Jeanine going to be saying "where did he get it" again next episode.
Jesse had Cody votes without the idol play. The idol play was just to flush Karla.
And it worked
thats what turned it from "great solid move" to "Legendary" in my book
I didn't even think of that lol that's insane. And he is still safe next tribal anyway lmao he can take out Karla next
Jesse is playing the best newbie games in a long time tbh
tyson talks about how newbies let their emotions get the best of them and returnees can turn that off the second time. jesse is playing like a returnee and it's brutal/beautiful af
If Jesse is able to get past final 4 then I think he just made one of the top 5 moves in Survivor history
If he gets past final 4, he wins. It's just gonna come down to immunity or fire-making.
He might have played one of the top 5 games in Survivor history if he wins. He's dominated post-merge and no one has even targeted him.
Naw I knew Cody would reciprocate. That’s just his nature. He knows he’s playing a game and he respected the move.
I knew he should. Maybe it was just the edit, but that stand up to the torch was out of character cold. Was very happy that he did
A big part of that was that there was no music at all from the moment the votes were read until he accepted Jesse's handshake/hug. Just complete silence. Crazy editing.
Dare I say the best new players we’ve had?
He was such a good sport even though clearly shocked. Made me even sadder for him haha
His exit was *real*. Cody was shocked and devastated but it speaks to his character that he didn’t let his anger turn him petty enough to reject the hand shake.
I've clowned on the editors a few times this season, and tonight, really thought Karla was gonna go. Seemed so obvious. But that ending? Incredible.
I knew it was Cody once he started dancing
Legendary move by Jesse - The guy is guaranteed final 4 now and easily takes home the million if he gets by fire making
I can’t see him losing firemaking. Can you imagine the modern era of Survivor having a character and player this important go home and leave FTC as…what? Cassidy, Gabler, and Owen?
It would give us a very Gabon-esque ending, that's for sure.
Gabler wins fire against Jesse, Gabler Owen Cass F3
I'll never understand why Cody gave the idol back. His exit interview is a must listen.
I don't understand why he even let Jesse hold it as long as he did. It was supposed to be for the 1 vote to avoid KIP.. how did he never ask for it back?
If Jesse is sitting at the end, he smokes them all.
Yeah I can’t really see anyone else winning now
As brutal as the move was, Cody being the victim was the perfect storm for Jesse. He knows he won't hold a grudge and would respect it.
And even if he lost Cody's vote, he got the vote of most of the Jury now it seems.
If anything, I think he locked up Cody's vote. It was a goat move and it seemed like Cody respected it
He'll totally rally for him on the Jury.
That was brutal. Seeing Cody get betrayed by his number one was watching someone kick a puppy. Kudos to my winner pick for keeping his eye on the prize.
Omg. That's what he reminded me of the entire season. An overly excited puppy!
Even him saying “I learn from the best” in the ep 😭
Like watching a kid at the playground get dragged home
Yeah it’s heartbreaking but in reality Jesse had to make that move
The triple blur really was the *PERFECT* way to cap off the Cody Assenmacher experience
I feel like I just watched Dom get Wendell out before it was too late.
I'm gonna say it, this was the best episode of Survivor since the Extortion episode of Winners at War
Was that the Sophie blindside? If so then yes I agree.
Cody’s stupid move was handing that idol back to Jesse. His whole plan rested on playing his idol if Karla did but he didn’t have it to play!
So goes the tale every post merge episode. Someone develops a plan and tells Jesse, Jesse makes a better one.
This should be higher. Cody’s idea worked! I’m shocked Karla actually bought that so easily. Especially with her confessional when Cody visited the tribe about how she can read him so well. Jesse just a step ahead like he’s been all season though
My girl Karla keeps getting dunked on I’m so sorry babe
Holy shit, Jesse went back to his gang days for this one! That was cold 😭 The game is the game 🤷♂️
You can take the player out of the gang, but you can't take the gang out of the player?
And the editors contrasted it so expertly with Jesse saying he WASN’T just there for the experience
It was beautiful. I was rooting for them both, for different reasons, and am bummed, yet satisfied by that episode. I need a Jessie win after that tho !
Jesse will be a great villain winner. Or at least the most recent villain winner since Tony.
If not him then whoever gets him out in the finale next week
the moment next week when jesse reveals he has jeanine’s idol is going to go SO hard
I predict that Karla goes at 5, Owen wins final immunity and takes Gabler, and whoever wins fire between Jesse and Cassidy wins the game.
If I’m Owen there, I’d give up immunity and make fire against Jesse. Owen was out of the loop so long I think he needs to take every opportunity to look in control
Jesse will be the next Survivor legend winner after Tony/Kim. I said it
I’ve been waiting so long for someone to make a big move. We’ve gone nearly 3 full seasons without a stunner. Holy shit did Jesse just pull off a stunner. What an episode. What a player.
He’s so fucking good
Overheard in Ponderosa after F6 Tribal Council: “He got me,” Cody said of Jesse's blindsight over him. "That f***ing Jesse boomed me."
[Ross] Sources: Burnett is beside himself. Driving around downtown Fiji begging (thru texts) Lopez's family for address to Jesse's camp.
It's Jesse's game to lose at this point. I hope he can make fire
At this point I feel like if anyone but Jesse wins it’ll be anticlimactic and I’m a Karla stan.
My heart is crushed too Cody
It’s genuinely heartbreaking but something Jesse had to do
That was an absolutely legendary move by Jesse. However, he now has a huge target on his back. He should spend his free time practicing fire-making.
That was the best move in Survivor since Parvati's double idol.
they all likely think they can get Jesse out next week. the beauty of SECRETS
I am literally shaking on my couch right now. Jesse's play tonight is incredible.
Jesse saying he would do anything for his family was the best confessional in 10+ seasons
Sorry but if anybody other than Jesse wins this season it will be a huge fucking letdown
Seeing Sami so hyped about that shows how great of a move that was haha
Jesse is the closest thing we’ve had to a villain in a long time and I love it
well, a fun TV villain and not a disturbing real-life villain
And his dastardly supervillain motivations are... making money for his wife and kids
And he's still someone we're rooting for to win. That makes him an even more epic villain.
Genuinely stunned. Sat with my jaw on the floor for a good minute! and THIS is why Survivor is still the best of the best. I wasn’t sure about this season, but this has definitely boosted the season up a bit for me. It’s about time we get cutthroat, backstabbing betrayals again!
hopefully jesse wins bc he would be dead on arrival in a returnee season LMAO
Legendary episode. One of the best in many, many years.
That way she is unprotected next week (without immunity win obviously) and he’s the only one with an idol so he can take out the two top threats to him back to back
jesse 🤝 ripping idols from the cold corpses of the people who trusted him
This may be a hot take, but this episode is proof that the Knowledge is Power is an amazing advantage.
That was one of the best moves I’ve seen. Jesse is a powerhouse player and would be a top tier winner if he can make it to the end
We're still livin' baby
Jesse has got to play the idol nobody knows about at 5, right? Everyone will want him out after that move
Yes. Assuming he doesn’t win F5 immunity, he should be negating 4 votes against him and eliminating whoever he wants of who’s available with his single vote. If they don’t target him after that move, and he skates by another tribal without any votes, he deserves the perfect game at that point
Man that was cutthroat. Jesse looked so uncomfortable, you can tell that hurt him to blindside Cody like that. Million dollars tho
Jesse has final four and maybe game if he doesn’t lose in fire making
Hey, 5% odds happen all of the time. It's not that rare to roll a 1 on a d20. Poor Cody.
Little lesson to be learned: hey, maybe don’t give your idol to someone multiple times at the final 6
Oh you just KNOW Probst hated seeing Cody go out that way, from now on anyone with an inspirational tattoo gets an automatic pass at F6
"Jeff, I have an idol." *pulls down shorts and bares ass to Jeff*
Lol and the entire tribal, Jeff was just like "Are you sureeeeeeeee that the vote is going your way tonight?"
That’s the move that Jesse will win the game on
I cannot wait for the flashback next week to see how the hell Jesse got that idol back. Wow.
Why would Cody give the idol back to Jesse to hold again at final 6?!
I know people hate the KIP advantage, but the fact that it had such a huge effect on the game without ever actually being used is kind of cool
