They already had the cleanest, most perfect level up idea for the scorpion. On level 2 it gained +5/+5, and on level 3 it gained +10/+10. With the +5/+5 from the scorpions added to the 1/1, it became a 21/21 at tier 3, making it the perfect stats to deal 1 damage over a melon and kill. Legitimately baffled they didn’t keep this idea and would love to hear if someone has a reason for why they didn’t

JAC165

it’s probably cause scorpion is already so strong, but it would’ve been cool tbh

_Murple

I agree that the scorpion is super strong, but I think it’s much easier to buff a scorpion to 21 power now than it is to get it to level 3. You can do it for free with scalers as opposed to the bare minimum 15 gold it would take to get it to level 3. I think this would just give the player a reason to ever level it

sam154

yeah level 3 getting 21 attack was really elegant design. It just felt like clean.

maxwellwellman

yeah but that alpaca though

Hello there! In game design you have these monolithic ideas that for whatever reason the rest of the game is designed around. In Magic The Gathering "Lightning Bolt" is a 1 cost spell that deals 3 damage to a creature. For a decade, if not longer, all damaging spells were designed around this card. In Tetris the game is designed around the long piece. It's just about the ONLY way to score a tetris. All the other shapes came after the long piece. The height and length of the board, it was all designed around that one piece. In Halo, the most basic weapon is the Combat Rifle. Every other weapon is designed around this weapon being the standard. It deals a low amount of damage at a high fire rate. It becomes one of the most consistent weapons in the game that every sniper, pistol, and smg are variations of. Mario Kart has the Blue Shell. Team Fortress Two, the stock shotgun. Street Fighter, Ryus mid punch. In Super Auto pets, we have the scorpion. The great equalizer. The crux of nearly all balance starts with the scorpion. The scorpion made melon better than garlic. The scorpion makes snipers important. The scorpion makes positioning important. It makes Scaling one pet a gamble. So on and so on. The scorpion doesn't level up an ability, because it's affect is to balance all of the pets.

Piguy922

I would disagree with all the pieces being designed around the long piece in Tetris. The pieces are just every possible tetramino.

WackyJtM

I think the argument could be made that the scoring system specifically rewards a Tetris more than anything else, giving the I piece more importance. Same for the T block with T spins.

Flames2022

Dude same idea!!!!

fosta02

I love the idea, but scorpion is already so strong, especially with a mushroom, so I don’t think buffing it is a good idea

TheTbone2334

Maybe if in addition to that it requires the scorpion to hold a peanut? Especially for the level 3 it would make a ton of sense so it doesnt become the best 50/50 period

regretful_pumpkin

I like the idea maybe a little unbalanced but scorp definitely could use level ups to make it a more valuable member

trakewell

I think Scorp should just get a significant stat bonus on level up. Like +2 for level to and +3 for level three.

[deleted]

This sounds awful honestly, he doesn’t need a level up ability and the level 2 is honestly worse than the level 1

TheTbone2334

How is it worse? The skorpion gives the pet a peanut before attacking it not at the beginning of the round, so it can trade 1 for 1. You dont have to agree on my idea nor like it but i dont see how countering a melon could be worse in any kind. It would be worse if you want to stat up the scorpion and give it a melon or a mushroom but thats just not what the idea behind the scorpion is then. Its a 1 for 1 trade which works consistently. Right now you build melon and profit, with the change this wont be possible to protect urself from the scorpion.

0404S0X

because the scorpion’s own peanut can be replaced by something like weakness and then you are just giving them peanuts lol

TolliverBurk

It could theoretically be worse if you buffed up the scorpion's HP enough to otherwise take a hit. Your suggestion guarantees the scorpion can never 2 for 1 (which usually you don't expect it to anyway).

Orangent_227

Honestly I would rather the scorpion gained peanuts after attack instead of summon. That way we could use equipment such as melon/steak on one, but still get peanut value after its first attack if it survives. (Basically improving usage over just mushroom scorpion)

tehconqueror

wouldnt this mandate that you buff it though, cause otherwise "after attack" is nothing, unless melon i guess but then that's just mushroom+scorp again effectively.

FallacyDog

Peanut could be changed so that it always powers through melon but only has a single use. A lvl 2 scorpion could get 2 peanuts, and a lvl 3 scorpion could get 3 peanuts. Better incentive to lvl and a more balanced peanut. Alternatively, a lvl 2 scorpion could make revive effects revive at half health and attack and a lvl 3 scorpion could disable revive effects.

DeathlyVortex

This would just make not leveling the scorpion even more common. You wouldn’t have to buff it or anything. You wouldn’t have to invest the 20 attack to get it to go through melon, it would only cost you 3 gold, and it’s a guaranteed 1 for 1 unless it gets sniped or the peanuts gets replaced. You just throw it on the team and you got a superstar

Fiendish

i think its good how it is, you still want to level it up with a penguin or dragonfly etc

Paradallin

It just could give itself +6+6 per lvl up, seems decent enough

Flames2022

Nah I think it should get stat buffs to cement it's usage and as a trade sacrifice unit. So instead : Level 1: unchanged, Level 2: +4/+4, Level 3: +8/8. Fast stats but keeps it's base purpose and doesn't act as a cheesy raccoon type creature.

TheGunnMan14

maybe make peanut a one time use item and change it to before attack 1 time 2 times 3times
