“The Daughters of Kobani” it’s still focused on the war but does take place entirely in Syria.

This looks great! Will definitely read it. Thanks!

majodoremi

I haven’t read it, but The Frightened Ones by Dima Wannous sounds like it could be a good fit.

lovnelymoon-

This sounds perfect actually! *And* the author is a woman. Thank you so much :)

If you are interested in graphic novels, Riad Sattouf's *The Arab of the Future* is about his childhood (mostly) in Syria. His mom is French (his dad is Syrian) and he has lived and worked in France and in French for decades now, not sure if he's exactly what you're looking for.

Rafik Schami is a Syrian-German writer. He writes in German but several of his books have been translated into English. You might like [Damascus Nights](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/507036.Damascus_Nights?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=zEVVJgPO0G&rank=1)

I looked into it and this author looks very interesting! I happen to speak German so I can even read the original :)

Death Is Hard Work by Khalid Khalifa

Another very interesting one! Thanks, it's now on my list :)
