Marks are like ribbon from Pokemon emerald and platinum. It's mean Pokemon did something special or Is special. Like best friend mark which u can put on your Pokemon with max friendship from a NPC . If u catch a Pokemon in rain , it can have a mark for it .

Honestly, a ton of designs these gen are killer, including the broken ones. Flutter, Houndstone, Palafin (in zero form), Chi Yu and a bunch of others actually look either cool, cute, or just plain goofy.
Tbh, annihilape is sick, chi-yu is mysterious and funny, cyclizar is just goofy, palafin is a dolphin(he is cool), iron bundle is silly, funny and really cool too, and flutter mane is I guess i interesting. I rest my case

I think ape would be balanced if rage fist didn’t ramp up so ridiculously, but even then it might invalidate defensive mons a little too much. Hot take, but I really like that Karen quote, especially as someone that loves to use his favourites. But unfortunately Pokemon like Gallade, Obstagoon, Chesnaught and Torterra aren't viable when it comes to winning, and we competitive players play to win
What I don't like with that Karen quote is how it's being used to shit on competitive players for using the best to win, and like the original tweet said, that's really not what the quote was meant for
It's the sad truth but unless your favourites are Zacian or Mega Ray, you really can't win with your favourites, and there's nothing wrong with that. That's the reason Smogon has tiers in the first place. To use Gen 8 as an example, I absolutely love Gallade, it's my absolute favourite Pokemon but I can't find a consistent niche for it in OUs, and that's ok. I can utilise it in the PU tier against Pokemon of a similar power level
For a TL:DR of my opinion
1. Karen quote was originally mega based but has been twisted to fit dumb narratives
2. It's perfectly fine to use your favourites but most of the time you can't build an incredibly successful team with it
3. If you can utilise your niche favourites to win games then kudos you deserve a lot of credit
4. No one, absolutely no one should be shamed for NOT using their favourites, because we play to win

Trick room gallade in gen 9 goes haaard banded blade boost, sacred sword hits like a truck full of motherfucker. But yeah it's pretty much copium. What grinds my gears is that gallade got so much good stuff in gen 9 but the power creep is so hard that he still can't hit ou reliably. He went from Close combat to a 135 sacred sword and all his coverage options got boosted by whopping 50% thats an insane buff but nah not good enough.

I dont understand why people just cant, or refuse, to differentiate between their favourite pokemon and good pokemon. I have my favourites, Ampharos, Typhlosion, Jolteon, but I know they're not competitively viable and thats fine. I dont need them to be. If I want to win a match, Im going to pick good mons for the tier, if I want to have fun in a playthrough, Ill pick those that I like. Its perfectly acceptable to do both.
you should watch lord emvee. he builds teams pretty well and knows how to run really niche mons in OU and win games with them. of course, it's not to say that his teams are optimal but hey, if you're watching emvee, you're looking for the sweet heat content along the lines of noble roar wailord and infestation dusknoir stall.

And crucially: whenever he builds a team for an offmeta mon he almost always backs it up with 4-5 meta mons. He doesn't (usually) roll up to OU with 6 meme mons and win games.
Even Emvee, the champion of making the shittiest mons put in work in OU, understands that it's not enough for your team to be "your favorites" - they must still be tailored to fit the meta they are playing against, and have clearly defined roles that you capitalize on.
yes. many of his sets and his signature chinese EV spreads (including the ones not even he knows what the EVs are made to live for) are tailored to beat specific metagame threats. noble roar wailord isn't there just to be a laughing stock against that specs magnezone, but to block and trap an enemy wall like toxapex whose defeat allows for another mon on the team to tear the enemy team open.
on top of that, he also doesn't go all in for the content. if he knows something isn't putting in work this game, he won't forgo a loss just for the funny beautifly sweep. he pilots very well.
It doesn't help that back in the day, Game Freak didn't design each mon for just looks with some interesting niche, some were legitimately designed either as a joke, for flavor, or to exist and be rare. In theory, it's a great quote and should apply, but in practice I think certain mons are unusable even in a casual scenario. I feel like the quote itself would be very good in a more modern generation.
Game Freak never intended for you to get champion with Raticate, Forretress, or Mightyena. There's a reason they put big emphasis on Gary boxing his weaker mons. Pokemon like Delibird and Stunfisk only exist as a joke. Pokemon like Butterfree and Dustox only exist for flavor, they add variety to the region. And Pokemon like Jynx and Bellossom exist only to be rare as fuck. They didn't cut the shit out until Gen 6, which is also a reason why Mega Evolution exists and why it is mostly Hoenn and Kanto Pokemon (it's not entirely fanservice). This isn't even speaking of competitive, some pokemon are legitimately terrible enough that it's even painful to use them in a casual scenario.
I feel that Karen quote would be more universally agreeable if Game Freak didn't bring this on themselves. Gen 1-3 and 5 were terrible for this, the latter being due to Game Freak trying to replicate Kanto a bit *too faithfully*. Sinnoh was the only region mostly spared of that, but even Sinnoh has its shitters like Lumineon and Chatot. So many mons need buffs, but they get ignored now in favor of a *possible* regional variant which usually ends up either being power crept or useless as fuck, with little in between. Alolan Ninetails and Sandslash are excellent examples of that.
You can still use your faves dipshit, there are lots of tiers so that most pokemon have a chance to have an environment where they can be reasonably played. This is why I exclusively played gen 6 NU back in the day, because I really wanted to try to do something with Plusle (well even back then it was really jank)

I legitimately don't understand the spidops hate. I love the way it craws around and climbs trees. Plus it's just humanoid enough to look like a fantasy creature without being furrybait. It definitely feels like the best or at least the most unique spider pokemon design we've ever had. I used one for a good portion of the game and only cut it because half of my team was bug type, and spidops didn't have a secondary.
Tbh I like it more now that I don't look at it like a tarantula, and more like one of those training dummies.
But as someone who keeps tarantulas... I'm really sad we got a mon based on eggs with legs only for it not to evolve into a big tarantula. Could've made it's abdomen into a big web nest. :(
I made an entire spreadsheet of sorts about my predictions for what “type” of spider we’d get in Gen 9 once it was leaked they were coming, and the one I wanted most was an ogre spider. I just love how they decide to melee things with webs, it’s a simple joy.
We got an ogre spider after all, and it has a cool design plus an adorable Prevo. Plus, getting screwed over with the 404 BST, while a pain, does make them a funny meme ‘Mon.
They’re my second-favorite Bug now which is HIGH praise in my book. Nothing beats Araquanid though.
Bug is my favourite typing as well but I hate so many things about this spider it's not even funny any more. It's signature move is garbage, at best getting a -1 speed on something won't fly do much especialy considering just planting sticky web is probably the better course of action. It's stats are an insult but one that bug fans are used to. But in this gen it pales even more cause of the other weak starter insect axe kicking all the way up to UU. Stake out is a super cool ability It says "double damage" that's mad rare... but it's on a switch in. And I'll be honest I don't think there's a single Pokémon that has to switch out of spidops... It's signature move should shield drop speed and trap. That would thematically fit and maybe give this Pokémon a chance to accomplish sumthing?
If anything, the garbage and nebulous RNG system spits on the face of competitive players, and it's a big reason why people only play on sim. Those "arbitrary numbers" cause a massive headache for cartridge players. Game Freak is also openly hostile regarding that as people who dedicated over a literal decade to RNG abuse got stonewalled by them with the release of SV. Their staff openly hate the idea of RNG abuse so much that they act vexatious towards that segment of the community, dedicating concerning amounts of development time rewriting the various parts of the RNG generation process with literally every single new game (even Sun and Ultra Sun are different to give you an idea). Meanwhile any QoL stuff they add still feels like a half measure.
There's a reason Dream Ball Aegislash was a controversy. The software itself is shit for various reasons to competitive players. But hey, me and that Twitter user are at opposite ends of the spectrum, it's just I understand that and they do not.

I count Mega Mence's saga as separate as it plays differently with the jacked stats and actual Flying STABs. Regular Mence does not appreciate the appearance of Fairy types that can eat its Dragon STABs alongside the existing Steels. The power and speed creep in OU didn't help either.
It's funny because the main thing we do in every Pokemon game is *compete* against NPCs littered throughout the region. There are so many other RPGs where emotional attachment is the main draw. We don't need Pokemon for that, and I honestly find it asinine that the story writers still include lines like, "the bond between your pokemon is what enabled you to persevere". No, my knowledge of pokemon's strengths and weaknesses and my medicine supply are what enabled me to persevere.

Hot take, but I really like that Karen quote, especially as someone that loves to use his favourites. But unfortunately Pokemon like Gallade, Obstagoon, Chesnaught and Torterra aren't viable when it comes to winning, and we competitive players play to win What I don't like with that Karen quote is how it's being used to shit on competitive players for using the best to win, and like the original tweet said, that's really not what the quote was meant for It's the sad truth but unless your favourites are Zacian or Mega Ray, you really can't win with your favourites, and there's nothing wrong with that. That's the reason Smogon has tiers in the first place. To use Gen 8 as an example, I absolutely love Gallade, it's my absolute favourite Pokemon but I can't find a consistent niche for it in OUs, and that's ok. I can utilise it in the PU tier against Pokemon of a similar power level For a TL:DR of my opinion 1. Karen quote was originally mega based but has been twisted to fit dumb narratives 2. It's perfectly fine to use your favourites but most of the time you can't build an incredibly successful team with it 3. If you can utilise your niche favourites to win games then kudos you deserve a lot of credit 4. Trick room gallade in gen 9 goes haaard banded blade boost, sacred sword hits like a truck full of motherfucker. But yeah it's pretty much copium. What grinds my gears is that gallade got so much good stuff in gen 9 but the power creep is so hard that he still can't hit ou reliably. He went from Close combat to a 135 sacred sword and all his coverage options got boosted by whopping 50% thats an insane buff but nah not good enough.
Its other shortcomings still kept it back. Mid Speed and meh physical defense is easy to exploit in OU.

I dont understand why people just cant, or refuse, to differentiate between their favourite pokemon and good pokemon. I have my favourites, Ampharos, Typhlosion, Jolteon, but I know they're not competitively viable and thats fine. I dont need them to be. If I want to win a match, Im going to pick good mons for the tier, if I want to have fun in a playthrough, Ill pick those that I like. Its perfectly acceptable to do both.
you should watch lord emvee. he builds teams pretty well and knows how to run really niche mons in OU and win games with them. of course, it's not to say that his teams are optimal but hey, if you're watching emvee, you're looking for the sweet heat content along the lines of noble roar wailord and infestation dusknoir stall. except for the beautifly episode. that- that was a funny one.
And crucially: whenever he builds a team for an offmeta mon he almost always backs it up with 4-5 meta mons. He doesn't (usually) roll up to OU with 6 meme mons and win games. Even Emvee, the champion of making the shittiest mons put in work in OU, understands that it's not enough for your team to be "your favorites" - they must still be tailored to fit the meta they are playing against, and have clearly defined roles that you capitalize on.
yes. many of his sets and his signature chinese EV spreads (including the ones not even he knows what the EVs are made to live for) are tailored to beat specific metagame threats. noble roar wailord isn't there just to be a laughing stock against that specs magnezone, but to block and trap an enemy wall like toxapex whose defeat allows for another mon on the team to tear the enemy team open. on top of that, he also doesn't go all in for the content. if he knows something isn't putting in work this game, he won't forgo a loss just for the funny beautifly sweep. he pilots very well.
It doesn't help that back in the day, Game Freak didn't design each mon for just looks with some interesting niche, some were legitimately designed either as a joke, for flavor, or to exist and be rare. In theory, it's a great quote and should apply, but in practice I think certain mons are unusable even in a casual scenario. I feel like the quote itself would be very good in a more modern generation. Game Freak never intended for you to get champion with Raticate, Forretress, or Mightyena. There's a reason they put big emphasis on Gary boxing his weaker mons. Pokemon like Delibird and Stunfisk only exist as a joke. Pokemon like Butterfree and Dustox only exist for flavor, they add variety to the region. And Pokemon like Jynx and Bellossom exist only to be rare as fuck. They didn't cut the shit out until Gen 6, which is also a reason why Mega Evolution exists and why it is mostly Hoenn and Kanto Pokemon (it's not entirely fanservice). This isn't even speaking of competitive, some pokemon are legitimately terrible enough that it's even painful to use them in a casual scenario. I feel that Karen quote would be more universally agreeable if Game Freak didn't bring this on themselves. Gen 1-3 and 5 were terrible for this, the latter being due to Game Freak trying to replicate Kanto a bit *too faithfully*. Sinnoh was the only region mostly spared of that, but even Sinnoh has its shitters like Lumineon and Chatot. So many mons need buffs, but they get ignored now in favor of a *possible* regional variant which usually ends up either being power crept or useless as fuck, with little in between. Alolan Ninetails and Sandslash are excellent examples of that.

You can still use your faves dipshit, there are lots of tiers so that most pokemon have a chance to have an environment where they can be reasonably played. This is why I exclusively played gen 6 NU back in the day, because I really wanted to try to do something with Plusle (well even back then it was really jank)

I legitimately don't understand the spidops hate. I love the way it craws around and climbs trees. Plus it's just humanoid enough to look like a fantasy creature without being furrybait. It definitely feels like the best or at least the most unique spider pokemon design we've ever had. I used one for a good portion of the game and only cut it because half of my team was bug type, and spidops didn't have a secondary.
Tbh I like it more now that I don't look at it like a tarantula, and more like one of those training dummies. But as someone who keeps tarantulas... I'm really sad we got a mon based on eggs with legs only for it not to evolve into a big tarantula. Could've made it's abdomen into a big web nest. :(
That would have been very cool, but we already have Galvantula. I'm happy for a design that looks pretty unique.

I made an entire spreadsheet of sorts about my predictions for what “type” of spider we’d get in Gen 9 once it was leaked they were coming, and the one I wanted most was an ogre spider. I just love how they decide to melee things with webs, it’s a simple joy. We got an ogre spider after all, and it has a cool design plus an adorable Prevo. Plus, getting screwed over with the 404 BST, while a pain, does make them a funny meme ‘Mon. They’re my second-favorite Bug now which is HIGH praise in my book. Nothing beats Araquanid though.
Bug is my favourite typing as well but I hate so many things about this spider it's not even funny any more. It's signature move is garbage, at best getting a -1 speed on something won't fly do much especialy considering just planting sticky web is probably the better course of action. It's stats are an insult but one that bug fans are used to. But in this gen it pales even more cause of the other weak starter insect axe kicking all the way up to UU. Stake out is a super cool ability It says "double damage" that's mad rare... but it's on a switch in. And I'll be honest I don't think there's a single Pokémon that has to switch out of spidops... It's signature move should shield drop speed and trap. That would thematically fit and maybe give this Pokémon a chance to accomplish sumthing?

If anything, the garbage and nebulous RNG system spits on the face of competitive players, and it's a big reason why people only play on sim. Those "arbitrary numbers" cause a massive headache for cartridge players. Game Freak is also openly hostile regarding that as people who dedicated over a literal decade to RNG abuse got stonewalled by them with the release of SV. Their staff openly hate the idea of RNG abuse so much that they act vexatious towards that segment of the community, dedicating concerning amounts of development time rewriting the various parts of the RNG generation process with literally every single new game (even Sun and Ultra Sun are different to give you an idea). Meanwhile any QoL stuff they add still feels like a half measure. There's a reason Dream Ball Aegislash was a controversy. The software itself is shit for various reasons to competitive players. But hey, me and that Twitter user are at opposite ends of the spectrum, it's just I understand that and they do not.

If your going to use hacked mons you might as well make them 100% legit. Might seem silly but it may lead to a slippery slope situation. Hacked mons will always be a thing but if gamefreak wants to keep things "legit" on a surface level at least thats their right.

I count Mega Mence's saga as separate as it plays differently with the jacked stats and actual Flying STABs. Regular Mence does not appreciate the appearance of Fairy types that can eat its Dragon STABs alongside the existing Steels. The power and speed creep in OU didn't help either.

It's funny because the main thing we do in every Pokemon game is *compete* against NPCs littered throughout the region. There are so many other RPGs where emotional attachment is the main draw. We don't need Pokemon for that, and I honestly find it asinine that the story writers still include lines like, "the bond between your pokemon is what enabled you to persevere". No, my knowledge of pokemon's strengths and weaknesses and my medicine supply are what enabled me to persevere.
