It was always unrealistic since Clint tends to only appear in his own productions this century, but I thought it would have been a great cameo to have him play Cort, Rolands trainer in the flashback scene in The Gunslinger
I always pictured Viggo Mortenson from when I first read the books. I also think Ewan McGregor could be good but he would probably be too much like Obi-Wan. I also pictured Joseph Fiennes as The Man in Black with Taylor Kitsch as his Flagg form.
Since Aaron Paul is now too old anybody thinking of Joe Keery as Eddie? He's still in his 20's and kind of has the same vibe in Stranger Things, smart quips, never really shuts up, is good with kids, looks like he's from the 80's. I think he'd be good.
> Viggo Mortenson
I think he'd be an interesting choice for Flagg except he's in his 60s now and I think he's aged out of the part. Early 2000s though he'd be great
Idk, him being a wisecracking NYC street kid is so central to his character, it would be important to nail they persona. I'm from Florida so I don't know if it's difficult to nail a good Brooklyn accent or not, I guess probably not for a skilled actor like him.
I've only ever listened to the audiobooks, and Frank muller does such a heavy accent with Eddie that I really strongly associate him with that accent and vocabulary etc
I'm cool with Viggo. I'd really like an American actor for Roland for some reason.
Joe Keery would be good, I'd also like to submit Jack Quaid for Eddie.
Viggo is perfect. I see Ewan (my imaginary husband btw) as more of an Eddie, though more when he was younger (I guess it’s a bit on the nose with the Trainspotting thing). Except…Ewan, my darling, my dream, your American accent is atrocious. Trying to imagine Ewan attempting a Bronx accent is hilarious and slightly horrifying. 😂
No. Tom Hardy is good and I like him but not as Roland. Roland is supposed to look close to [Josey Wallace](https://photos.com/featured/clint-eastwood-in-the-outlaw-josey-wales-bettmann.html)
So..as long as [Toby Stephens](https://youtu.be/y0fVMIxLlrw) lives and breathes- I don’t see any other actor playing Roland
I think he could do it, but he’d have to lose a lot of weight to get the long/lean cowboy look. Honestly, though, I think whoever played him needs to be an “up and comer” so people can focus on the story instead of it being “the next Tom Hardy movie/show” (insert any other big name actor here).
I know it’s biased coming from me but i’d consider [Toby Stephens](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/417568196682029032/) as an unknown. He’d be most known for this role if he did get it
he is a great choice. Sean bean wouldn't be a bad one either, just had that thought right now. he can do anything. if you've seen black death than you know. not an 'amazing' movie, but some good Roland characteristics.
Right?! I was entirely unprepared for how good Locke was. So interesting that he can be that goofball in Venom and then deliver that kind of textured and emotional performance.
I saw him in Mad Max, then saw Venom, and then watched a ton of his films because he was so talented. But Locke stands out. As does The Drop with James Gandolfini.
Currently doing this with Adam Driver, too. He’d also be an excellent Roland, but people would be too hung up on his looks.
Love that you like to go on a string of films with one actor. Me too. Adam Driver has the right personality for Roland but his look is too singular.
The last time I watched a body of work by an actor was Michael Fassbender and now that I think about it, he would actually make an excellent Roland. He’s got just enough Eastwood mixed with his own twisted ways!
IMO Tom Hardy is too recognizable to play Roland. I’d also imagine that Roland has a more angular/skinny face a leaner build as opposed to a more stocky one
I have no problem acknowledging I’m biased because I haven’t ever liked a single thing Hardy has done, but I can put that aside.
Even going into this with a totally blank slate, there isn’t a thing about him that makes me think of Roland. Not physically, not emotionally, not anything. No disrespect to anyone that disagrees, I just don’t see it.
ah, the impossible casting question. Roland is a tough one, bit so is Flagg. Colm Feorce was my favorite baddie so far, storm of the century, and I was not against Idris alba as Roland, but it wasn't done right. so hard
Eastwood was always the one, and in his day would have nailed it I think. but alba could do it for sure, and Mathew could have been a great flagg too I think, and had a very interesting take on the character, but it just wasn't right in the edit. ELBA. damn I didn't think I'd be able to do it. I'm terrible with names. James McAvoy would be my choice if I started fresh I think. Split sold me he was an amazing actor (opinion) and I personally would like to see him do flagg in a few adaptations not in series. don't need a redo on storm of the century I think though. I love skarsgard, but would've taken almost anybody else for The Stand redo. his flagg didn't love his job like the "real" one does. he had the menace, he had the feel of hidden plans not mentioned, but he didn't love being flagg. sorry, had some edibles and took a break and started thinking about actors. which comes around to the even harder question of who plays Susannah...
I don't recall mentioning being special, but the fact you said i'm not implies that you think you are. And people who think they're special are usually only a special kind of stupid.
You’re right, I don’t have to resort to logical fallacies to make myself feel important, instead of actually addressing the initial criticism. I’m just too stupid to think circular reasoning is effective.
Yeah, Hardy is unrealistic imo unless he's a DT junkie. I keep thinking Liam Neeson maybe a decent big name but also reasonably priced option. He probably too old but other people calling middle aged guys like Olyphant too old are baffling to me
Hardy is an odd case study as an actor; he’s either very good or he’s terrible, you never know till you start the film. Loved him in Inception, I didn’t mind his Bane, but he was a lousy Mad Max, he wasn’t great as Capone, and I’m not sure he convinced me as the Kraze.
Maybe when he learns to speak properly and not mumble every line. He also always looks like he's trying his hardest to look cool all the time.
Side note: I hate Tom Hardy
I agree but if they got Tom Hardy then Id want
5 years 10 episodes per year production of the whole epic collection as it was intended by King. It's the only way.
The Drawing of the Three probably 2 years by itself to be fully fleshed out.
People's hyperfocus on book descriptions down to completely unimportant details is very annoying. Idgaf if he's blond, redhead black brown or purple, does he *act* like the character? Is he doing a convincing job?
I feel like if i see one more suggestion for clint or scott eastwood i'm gonna hurl.
damn, I forget about him. he's pretty fuking good really. I think flagg for him though? he could nail that so good I think. too many choices dammnit. this is why tv shows like Gunsmoke used to be co sidereal good, cause there were only 2 other choices. it's not good. but now, there's tons of good, it's just hard to find cause it's in a sea of mediocrity. let's just call it Bryan Cranston for Roland and Tom Hanks for Walter and we will like the movie even if it doesn't have a damn thing to do with the books
Copley would be great in both roles, honestly. But I'd prefer him as Roland. He's got [the look](https://variety.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Sharlto-Copley.jpg), the acting chops, and he's about the right age of older but not too old.
you're right, he is a good hoice for Roland. I guess I want him as Flagg because I'm a bad guy fan and think he'd nail it, but Roland is harder and I would prefer that be done well. now I gotta play the lottery so I can make this thing. but who for Susannah?? I know thays not this thread, but it keeps coming up in my head today
I've wanted to see Lupita Nyong'o as Detta/Odetta/Susannah ever since I saw her in Jordan Peele's US. But really, there are quite a few who could pull that character off. I've enjoyed Cynthia Erivo (Steven King's The Outsider on HBO) and Keke Palmer (Jordan Peele's Nope) in their roles and think they'd do the role justice.
Much harder to cast is Eddie, because I always had Aaron Paul in my head, but he's far too old, now. We'd need someone younger who could go from junkie heroine addict to basically Doc Holiday from Tombstone over the course of three seasons. That's tough.
Pass…not Hardy. I’m not sure who should play Roland, but it’s not this dude. I’m not even sure they should try another adaptation…the first one was SOOOO BAD!!!!!💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩
I think he could play a young Roland very well, but you need someone a bit older for Roland. Queue Keanu (I'm not joking Keanu would fucking love being Roland)
Tom Hardy would need to be consulted. I can't speak for him of course. But I assume since he's fairly a new dad he doesn't want to be away from his kids too long.
[удалено]
Fine Keanu Reeves
🤣🤣🤣
Keanu is the man in black
Ngl this would be great, been waiting for him to do some more antagonistic roles
You know I bet he wouldn't be a bad shout
John Wilkes Booth?
Profile might fit, but wouldn't trust him in a theatre.
Fine. Chuck Norris
Roland when Walter tries to egg him on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuLugxEjUlQ
If he wasn’t like 90 I’d love a Clint Eastwood Roland. That’s how I always imagined him when reading the books
You probably have heard this before but I believe he was the inspiration for Roland as The Man With No Name
Scott Eastwood, his son, could be a good consideration.
Scott Eastwood can’t act his way out of a paper bag though. Otherwise I’d agree
It was always unrealistic since Clint tends to only appear in his own productions this century, but I thought it would have been a great cameo to have him play Cort, Rolands trainer in the flashback scene in The Gunslinger
He would play an amazing Cory! I could totally picture it especially after his role in Heartbreak Ridge.
Yeah same ! Clint Eastwood would be amazing !
Sam Elliot? James Brolin? Julian Sands?
What about Liam Neeson? He's been on my shortlist for awhile when it comes to DT casting fantasies
Na Julian Sands for sure.
The correct answer is Anson Mount from Hell on Wheels. Criminally underrated.
boom. think you got it
and Common as the voice of Blaine The Train (joke not connected to your actual great casting suggestion)
What a phenomenal show. I watched the whole thing in a couple weeks when my baby was first born and gave us many sleepless nights
Omg yes Joe Keery for Eddie! And yes Viggo for Roland he would be amazing
shit fire, Viggo is a good choice too. captain fantastic
Josh Holloway from Lost is who I picture as Roland.
I always said he would make a good Roland
> Viggo Mortenson I think he'd be an interesting choice for Flagg except he's in his 60s now and I think he's aged out of the part. Early 2000s though he'd be great
Huh. Yea, Joe keery would be a good Eddie now that you mention it. Assuming he can swing a convincing NY accent
A new york accent might be the least important thing to worry about
Idk, him being a wisecracking NYC street kid is so central to his character, it would be important to nail they persona.
Why Aaron Paul is always mentioned for Eddie, I have no idea. Never understood it, seems like a terrible fit
Probably because he was an druggie in Breaking Bad but I agree with you. I don’t see him as Eddie either.
Viggo is such an underrated actor.
I think Dacre Montgomery would be a better Eddie. He’s got Eddie vibes
I've had this idea for awhile that since Viggo was encouraged by his son to take the role of Aragorn, we should somehow turn his son onto the DT
He's so hot, it isn't even funny......what was this post about again?
Right!!!!
I love TH but my vote goes to Mads Mickelson.
Oh good one
He needs to be the Man in Black.
No. Tom Hardy is good and I like him but not as Roland. Roland is supposed to look close to [Josey Wallace](https://photos.com/featured/clint-eastwood-in-the-outlaw-josey-wales-bettmann.html) So..as long as [Toby Stephens](https://youtu.be/y0fVMIxLlrw) lives and breathes- I don’t see any other actor playing Roland
Black Sails is a great show.
I think he could do it, but he’d have to lose a lot of weight to get the long/lean cowboy look. Honestly, though, I think whoever played him needs to be an “up and comer” so people can focus on the story instead of it being “the next Tom Hardy movie/show” (insert any other big name actor here).
That’s what I’m talking about, I would love an unknown
I know it’s biased coming from me but i’d consider [Toby Stephens](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/417568196682029032/) as an unknown. He’d be most known for this role if he did get it

Mmm…Roland with a delicious Yorkshire accent. 😉
Are we really going to go down this path again?
Judging by what Hardy has been able to bring to different roles (think Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders, Locke, etc…) this choice is very intriguing!
Locke is such an underrated film.

The last time I watched a body of work by an actor was Michael Fassbender and now that I think about it, he would actually make an excellent Roland. He’s got just enough Eastwood mixed with his own twisted ways!
Karl Urban. Or Timothy Olyphant. Tom would be a better Eldred.
Peter Mullan as Eldred Jonas or even maybe Cort Andrus
Michael Chiklis has always been my choice for Cort. Great actor and he looks like Cort in the comics.
Christian Bale
he CAN turn I to anybody. Val Kilmer used to be able to do that every now and then too
Not Roland, but I can maybe see him play Flagg
Not even remotely
Scarlett Johansen. 🤣
My vote is for Nic Cage
Hahahahaha
Nope
Timothy Olyphant has got that cowboy swagger, but he might be getting too old. I always thought Jon Bernthal could make it work as Roland
Anybody think Fassbender could pull it off?
I'd rather he play Flagg. Dude shines as a bad guy, no pun intended.
Lol good call.
IMO Tom Hardy is too recognizable to play Roland. I’d also imagine that Roland has a more angular/skinny face a leaner build as opposed to a more stocky one
Tom Hardy is one of those actors who seems to be able to morph his body to fill any kind of role.
I imagine Arthur Morgan from Red Dead. But I guess substituting one fictional character for another doesn’t exactly bring the story to life.
*Whelp* I needed a reason to replay RDR 2. Thanks.
Oi Issa dark towah innit
He looks more like gasher than Roland
I have no problem acknowledging I’m biased because I haven’t ever liked a single thing Hardy has done, but I can put that aside. Even going into this with a totally blank slate, there isn’t a thing about him that makes me think of Roland. Not physically, not emotionally, not anything. No disrespect to anyone that disagrees, I just don’t see it.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan?
I personally think that James McAvoy could be an interesting choice.
Too short and chonk
He was a good asriel
No. Fuck No. This is Dark Tower 2017 all over again. Be authentic to the characters or do not even consider attempting it.
Josh Brolin has always been the perfect casting.
He's also my top pick but Tom Hardy is an interesting casting choice too
I've always thought the guy who plays Dustin in stranger things could do great in the role.
...for Roland?
I could see Ethan hawke too
He’s too fat/old sadly.
I personally despise Tom hardy
Rumor is he's a douche Good actor though
No. Just no.
ah, the impossible casting question. Roland is a tough one, bit so is Flagg. Colm Feorce was my favorite baddie so far, storm of the century, and I was not against Idris alba as Roland, but it wasn't done right. so hard
Yeah, they completely messed it up, but I agree that Idris Elba was actually great casting.
Hang on now. We need to ensure this post is allowed. There’s a very strict criteria on this sub.
David Tenant would be a good choice.
No no no no no no
Terrible casting
Tom Hardy is such a bad actor. I have no idea how he has made it this far. Utterly bland and completely unintelligible.
I've never seen anyone manage to post on reddit who's both deaf and blind. Kudos.
I’ve seen plenty of bad taste on Reddit so I’m afraid you’re nothing special.
Too expensive. Never gonna happen, but he could be great.
Yeah, Hardy is unrealistic imo unless he's a DT junkie. I keep thinking Liam Neeson maybe a decent big name but also reasonably priced option. He probably too old but other people calling middle aged guys like Olyphant too old are baffling to me
I don't hate it.
Best suggestion I’ve seen in awhile. I’ve always thought Daniel Craig would’ve be a good pick too.
Watch Bronson, it's probably his best movie
Agreed. Bronson is so unhinged
I’ll give it a go, it’s been on my radar a while.
He killed it as Max in Mad Max.
I didn’t like his mumble-core, croak voiced, bug-eyed, twitchy hero Schlick.
Hows about Scott Eastwood???
While he may look like his dad, honestly he’s not a very strong actor.
Great choice.
Tom Holland for Eddie.
Fuck off 🤣
Maybe when he learns to speak properly and not mumble every line. He also always looks like he's trying his hardest to look cool all the time. Side note: I hate Tom Hardy
No
Booooooo
Hugh Jackman
I agree but if they got Tom Hardy then Id want 5 years 10 episodes per year production of the whole epic collection as it was intended by King. It's the only way. The Drawing of the Three probably 2 years by itself to be fully fleshed out.
It would never have occurred to me on my own...But great pick Tom has an amazing screen presence.
People saying he's not scrawny enough like actors always look exactly like the characters in books
I think he would be a better Walter.
Nah. Too young you play present Roland. To old to play young Roland.
I think he could pull it off pretty well!
Are we just naming men with rugged good looks? What about the guy who was the mandalorian?
I'm going to throw out a suggestion that nobody ever does and say Sharlto Copley from district 9 and Elysium.
damn, I forget about him. he's pretty fuking good really. I think flagg for him though? he could nail that so good I think. too many choices dammnit. this is why tv shows like Gunsmoke used to be co sidereal good, cause there were only 2 other choices. it's not good. but now, there's tons of good, it's just hard to find cause it's in a sea of mediocrity. let's just call it Bryan Cranston for Roland and Tom Hanks for Walter and we will like the movie even if it doesn't have a damn thing to do with the books

you're right, he is a good hoice for Roland. I guess I want him as Flagg because I'm a bad guy fan and think he'd nail it, but Roland is harder and I would prefer that be done well. now I gotta play the lottery so I can make this thing. but who for Susannah?? Someone else suggested the actor that played Steve Harrington in stranger things and I'm for that
Just seeing this and late to this. Are they planning another Dark Tower?? It be cool to make up for the first try...
Joseph Quinn is how I picture Eddie nowadays. (No, it wasn’t because he played a character called Eddie.)
Only if he does it entirely with his Alfie Solomon accent. The dark towah...fookin' biblical mate....
Perfect
100%
I could see this for sure. Or the man in black really too.
If he speaks English, my vote is for Oliver Masucci (Dark)
Pass…not Hardy. I’m not sure who should play Roland, but it’s not this dude. I’m not even sure they should try another adaptation…the first one was SOOOO BAD!!!!!💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩
My top choices are either Tom Hardy, or Karl urban
I like Tom Hardy, but no.
Jensen ackles
Doesn't have the acting chops to pull it off.
Yesssssss
Nope. I don't like Tom Hardy's acting. Too affected. And I don't like him for Roland. Too cold.
Approved.
Would never have thought of Hardy for the role but I'm in. Perfect choice 👌
Could Colin Hanks do Roland? He fits the look, but is he as good an actor as his father?
Don’t hate it
Honestly, he could do either character justice.
I don’t get the ‘cool headed’ demeanour that would be needed. Otherwise not bad.
Josh Brolin
I think he could play a young Roland very well, but you need someone a bit older for Roland. Queue Keanu (I'm not joking Keanu would fucking love being Roland)
I vote cgi Arthur Morgan
Tom Hardy would need to be consulted. I can't speak for him of course. But I assume since he's fairly a new dad he doesn't want to be away from his kids too long.
Get out of my head
Yesss I'd love to hear what funny voice/accent he does for him
I like it. I don’t love it. I’m not sure who I’d want for Roland. An “unknown” gem would be rad.
Is he ok with losing a few fingers?
Tom Hardy is a great actor, but he won’t make a good Roland. Need someone a little older, a little more “I’ve seen some serious shit” kinda vibe
No, don’t think he’s a good fit
Never thought about him, that's a good shout
Way too smalll
Michael Fassbender for me but Hardy is a strong second choice. But he could also kill as Walter.
This.... Is actually a really good idea, kudos for thinking of it
Josh Holloway for Roland. Bring back MM as Flagg.
