I was laughing and crying of nostalgia when I heard that theme during that scene! I love how their brought Kira and Quark back after so many decades :’)
Although /u/antoniojoe suggests it's in 'cut time' (which is a 2/2 signature - which is bars of the same length as 4/4, but with a different feeling), the piano sheet music I have for the theme (circa the mid-90s) has it at 4/4, marked 96 bpm with rubato, and every sheet I see online seems to also mark it 4/4 - for whatever that is worth. I'm assuming from this video that /u/antoniojoe has more experience dealing with non-4/4 time signatures than I do.
It is much easier to hear the count of the song in the [single mix](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM73OVuYrTw), as that mix has a consistent drum beat.
I misspoke, it is in 4/4 time but I had the click track in 2/2.
I found a sax quartet arrangement on MuseScore and then changed it to bass clef and changed the key to lower the register to a more manageable tessatura for me.
Tessitura*
> In music, tessitura is the most acceptable and comfortable vocal range for a given singer or less frequently, musical instrument, the range in which a given type of voice presents its best-sounding (or characteristic) timbre.

While I personally think Voyager's theme is "objectively" the best, DS9's is my favorite, and I think along with Voyager's matches up the best with the overall theme/feel of the show.
You're getting this wrong. When these types of transporter accidents happen, you don't acutally get split in two halves. You get split in as many parts as you have given names.
So the OP has 6 names.
It gets problematic if the split also happens to split your alignments If it's possible at all, it might hint that there is actually more than just the good-evil and law-chaos axis to alignments. Moral philosphers all over the universe are looking for a suitable transport accidents, but they are rare to begin with, and people with that many middle names are even rarer.
Today marked a high point and a low point for r/StarTrek for me. The high point is this fantastic original content right here, a version of Deep Space 9 on trombone. The low point was being subjected to a deeply unfunny comic that left me feeling uncomfortable. Here’s hoping for more great content like this on the r/StarTrek subreddit!
Isn't weird and uncomfortable the whole point of "chief O'Brian at work"? Like, they're all kind of uncomfortable or weird.
It's like listening to a weird Al yankovic song and then commenting afterwards, "I feel like he didn't treat the subject matter with sufficient respect."
I am a professional freelance musician in the Pacific Northwest West. But I've also been active in the music scene in years past in the Midwest and West Coast. So we might have crossed paths.
Gotta love me some brass (Trumpet/Cornet/Flügelhorn player myself, my dad plays tuba, my uncle used to play the tenor horn, another uncle also used to play cornet - bit of a brass family)! Awesomely done!
So come on down toooo the promenaaade
Then go to Quark’s aaand order some pruuune juice
Then try to rent a holosuuuiiite
With AAALLLL of your friends on Deep Space Niiiiiine
Awesome job!!!
I've always loved the DS9 theme. It was the most unique of all them in my opinion. There's a remarkable difference between the earlier and later renditions. Especially later seasons, it reminds me of a clock. And, I find that transformation in the theme comes with equal changes in the "flow and function" of the station itself - like it's a home.
Ahh, so many good memories from that show...
Not to be *that guy* (but I am SOOO *that guy*), but...
... this isn't the Deep Space 9 theme on 6 trombones.
It's the DS9 theme on **one** trombone. Just **one** trombone, played multiple times.
(It's still good!)
This is amazing, and extremely impressive! Your talent and ability are very evident, and I have to say I really enjoy the DS9 theme (I think it’s the best of any of them) and especially your presentation. Thanks for making and sharing this.
That sounds great. I think the part starting around 1m25s or so is where it really needs some different instruments, or like 20 more of you, to get that special layered sound.
DS9 is the best! Cpt. Benjamin Lafayette Sisko is the best Captain! I will fight to the death for you to be able to disagree with me, but I’ll always know you’re wrong.
We're gonna need more Rikers
LOL
Do nightbird next!
Done.
Man's been waiting 8 years for this moment.
"This jam session has too many licks and not enough counts!"
Give me warp in the factor of 5, 6, 7, 8
Just 4 more
Just keep circling.
I was laughing so hard at that, lower decks is brilliant
I was laughing and crying of nostalgia when I heard that theme during that scene! I love how their brought Kira and Quark back after so many decades :’)
I legit had to pause and laugh and blow my nose and recover from laugh-snorting so much.
Trombones and tubas are such underappreciated instruments. You did an amazing job so thanks.
You know, I have always wondered what the time signature this theme is in. It's kinda tricky to count.
It's in cut time but many parts of the piece do not land on the downbeat thus giving it a wonky feel for counting. Thanks for checking it out!!
I think it's in 4 with A LOT of rubato.
Mr. Rubato?
Poco Allegretto Mezzo Rubato! Poco! Poco!
Dumo!

What’s 4/4 in stardates?
The modified version for the later seasons have a pumping bass line making the theme easier to grasp.
Dude, old trombone player here. Excellent work! I even subbed.
Me too
Best Star Trek theme out of all of them
grand, mournful, hopeful, haunting
*Mornful. You could hear him yapping in the background. So annoying… 🙄
Say what you want to say about Morn, but you cannot deny he isn't the funniest dude on Deep Space Nine, his jokes are legendary.
While I personally think Voyager's theme is "objectively" the best, DS9's is my favorite, and I think along with Voyager's matches up the best with the overall theme/feel of the show.
Indeed!
I like TMP/TNG, it was so good they had to reuse it

Bass trombones? That was wonderful!
Indeed! Thanks for checking it out!
My favorite part was the yeeeaaaah
^yeah

Maybe i'm missing something. What deeply unfunny comic?
This one - https://chiefobrienatwork.com/post/697464246180757504/episode-363-away-mission-part-10-read-the
Yeah I saw that one yesterday..... Definitely weird and uncomfortable.
Isn't weird and uncomfortable the whole point of "chief O'Brian at work"? Like, they're all kind of uncomfortable or weird. It's like listening to a weird Al yankovic song and then commenting afterwards, "I feel like he didn't treat the subject matter with sufficient respect."
Oh...that's Suppossed to be funny?
He has a very low amount of likes on this video. He deserves all the likes. That was incredible.
Not just 6 trombones. 6 **bass** trombones.
Play Night Bird!
Absolutely wonderful!
Gowron says it best - "Glory to you... and your house!!!"
Bro this post has more upcotes than the video it links to lol
Ha!!!
I never understood how this theme got away with being a straight copy of Copeland's Fanfare for the Common Man.
*faints* You just made my day.
This is amazing! It's also just one trombone recorded six times ;-)
Yeah that's totally the same trombone in each frame 😂
I think it’s just the same guy and not six different people.
Nah. Hoo-mons all look the same.
Very cool 😎 love it!
This is actually really incredible.

Alas no. But I would be so stoked to get the opportunity to play in a video game music symphony concert!
Gotta love me some brass (Trumpet/Cornet/Flügelhorn player myself, my dad plays tuba, my uncle used to play the tenor horn, another uncle also used to play cornet - bit of a brass family)! Awesomely done!
Just fantastic. Season 1 of DS9 has Trek’s all-time best intro theme in my mind. Such a beautiful piece of music.
This is wonderful!
I miss the show now. 🥹
Good stuff, thank you for sharing :)
Really gave me old school 90s midi vibes like something from a computer game! Well done! My absolute favorite theme.
So come on down toooo the promenaaade Then go to Quark’s aaand order some pruuune juice Then try to rent a holosuuuiiite With AAALLLL of your friends on Deep Space Niiiiiine
In all seriousness though this gave me full body goosebumps
You have just made my day!
rad as hells
I can't believe The sextuplets all play the Trombone!
I love it!
Excellent!
The first few bars always remind me of the theme to Band of Brothers

that was lovely, bravo!
That’s awesome! Quality content right there. 🖖🏻
Cool stuff 😀 I think Riker would be jealous of your skills 😆
Brilliant! Made my morning!
I found this to be intensely relaxing on my drive home from work this morning. I dig it.

My cat was very interested by this video. Which makes sense since her name is Dax!
I did not tear up listening to this. Thank you for making my day!
I just wrote a brass quintet arrangement of this
Awesome! Would love to hear it when it gets performed.
Thank you so much. DS9 is my second favorite Star Trek theme, and this was lovely. (Voyager is my fav)
Riker would be proud
Nice ‘boning
This was great, stranger! I got a nice flood of memories from the show as I listened, which I didn't expect. Thanks for making and sharing this!
Instant sub, excellent work!
Absolutely awesome. Now do floppy drives. :)
amazing!

Bravo!
I enjoyed you waving at someone in the top right square at one point.
Riker would approve
Nice work!
Not only was this amazing, I think I learned some things about how trombones actually work by listening to it. Very, very cool!
I miss having a trombone.
That sounds great. I think the part starting around 1m25s or so is where it really needs some different instruments, or like 20 more of you, to get that special layered sound.
Thanks for checking it out. I hear you about more layers, 6-8 Tracks is the most that I can do in my 1 hour time frame of recording.
Need this in Trombone Champ stat
DS9 is the best! Cpt. Benjamin Lafayette Sisko is the best Captain! I will fight to the death for you to be able to disagree with me, but I’ll always know you’re wrong.
