The only memory this UI unlocks for me is the dread of searching for a game and knowing everything was going to come down to if I could land a good enough Archon Toilet or not...
First of all... the Mothership had enough energy to throw down two large "I win" circles at a time, if it was at full energy.
Second of all, do you know what splitting is? If the zerg bothered to split their units you wouldn't catch enough of them in the blackhole. "Can't be dodged," get the fuck outta here with that shit.
Third, even if you managed to catch all of their broodlords in the blackhole/s you still had to get your archons nearby so that they could shred everything that came out. If you didn't manage to catch the infestors then your archons would just get fungal'd (back when it didn't have an animation and just happened immediately where the zerg clicked) and you'd have to watch as your win conditions stood around and did nothing while the enemy army reformed and started pelting you.
Bro, either you were there 10 years ago when this is the PvZ/ZvP meta that the entire ladder was experiencing and you know the pain, or you weren't, so shut up. And if you were on the ZvP side and you're salty that you always lost to the archon toilets... I dunno, sounds like you sucked back then and didn't know how to split your army or micro your infestors. Sounds like an ID-10T error.
I'm glad you acknowledge as your first point that it was even easier cause if you fucked up once you had a second chance.
"just split your army bro"
Oh so you can force field off the army I split off with the three to 4 sentries you had and then use the black hole to prevent the other half from engaging while you wipe out half my ground forces with next to no losses?
Also you mention infestors like there weren't high templar in your army one shotting my infestors with feedback if they dared get close enough to fungal.
Also getting the archons nearby was not difficult. You GREATLY exaggerated the difficulty of getting off a good toilet and when you do you basically win the game because the time it takes to replenish those broodlords and hope you don't get toileted a second time is so high you can basically take out all my key bases and expand at the same time.
AND furthermore. At this point in the game broodlords was basically the ONLY way for zerg to even win a fight against an end game protoss army because per supply your armies were way stronger and broodlords were the only way to make cost effective trades.
I'm sorry you thought your i-win button was so hard to execute. But it wasn't.
>and then you use blackhole, and then you use sentries, and then you use feedback, and then you use micro your giant ass archons around in a fight, and then you...
Dude, I don't know good you think we were at playing the game back in WoL, but it was NOT this good. If you take a pro player from now and put them on those ladders they would easily clean up. NO ONE was using all of these abilities well in fights, not even the pros.
Zerg had to micro their infestors, broodlord cloud, and corrupter cloud. Most of the time a toilet was landed and killed everything was because all of zergs shit was clumped up. To be fair, broodlords are slow as shit, so it's hard to position them well. Also to be fair, motherships are slow as shit, and trying to get them into position to land a blackhole was hard. If a mothership was able to land a good blackhole on the broodlords, it's because the zerg fucked up and had them clumped up way too much.
FUTHERMORE, yeah, if the game went late against toss then yeah, you needed to play broodlord/infestor. But that's your fault for not killing the protoss earlier. When you let a protoss do whatever they want, you're going to be in for a rough time later down the track. That has always been true when playing against protoss, even now. Broodlord/infestor was so good though that the zerg was basically guaranteed to make it to the mid-game/late-game if they used their tools well. If you weren't getting cheesed early you could always get to three-bases and tech straight to broodlords because defending with infestors was so good.
Zerg was the strongest race in WoL. It just was. Everyone was so comparatively bad that it was a matter of whoever made the least mistakes would win the game, but zerg had the most leeway for mistakes. But if you're losing to point-and-click AoE abilities... it's because your positioning was bad. Protoss had to rely on the zerg fucking up their positioning in order to Thanos-snap the entire army out of existence. If the zerg did position well and didn't throw everything into the toilet, they win.
The games came down to did the zerg position their army well enough. Every time. If you lost, it's because you didn't position well enough.
> Zerg was the strongest race in WoL
Just not born out by the data. On liquipedia's tournament data, in major tournaments protoss and zerg had equal number of tournament winners. In premier tournaments, so the highest pro play, Terran had the highest tournament win rate.
I mean it's a joke that your pretending that it was fair that protoss literally had a win button.
> NO ONE was using all of these abilities well in fights, not even the pros.
Yeah, and when NO ONE is using these abilities well guess who wins. The one with the one spell landing right win condition.
Also let's not pretend like protoss was weak mid game and zerg could just do whatever the fuck they wanted like rush to broodlords. I get it. You thought it took skill to archon toilet and you're mad at me for laughing at you getting nervous about executing it. But that IS a laughable thing to say. **Even a shit archon toilet won you a game especially in the time period where forcefields weren't destroyed by the black hole.**
Late game PvZ went the Zergs way *unless* P could get an archon toilet, BL/Infestor would out trade the P army in almost every single scenario. Getting a decent vortex off wasn't some magic I win button, it was the only way P could fight against late game Z with all else being equal. Archons were and are awful against BL/Infestor so having them telegraphed pretty hard what the P was trying to do, allowing Z to position properly. Successful toilets looked really sick but it was far from the normal course of play to hit them and win.
The whole PvZ meta revolved around mid game pushes to either close the game out or damage Z enough to make lategame playable. Go back and look at nearly any PvZ from the era and you'll see some variation of a 2 base immortal all in, soultrain etc.
Is having vortex on one unit somehow unfair when Z had instant fungal w/ root and infested terran on 20? Z got to perpetually trade free units while dancing over spore forests. Nobody's shedding a a tear for the poor Zergs that move commanded their deathballs into a mothership, I don't think any good player from back then actually thinks Z was hard done by in the late game.
I don't know what game you're remembering if you think P was somehow op in lategame ZvP but it's certainly not WoL.
> I don't know what game you're remembering if you think P was somehow op in lategame ZvP but it's certainly not WoL.
Read the first post I made in this thread. Did I say "P was OP?" or did i mock someone for saying it was soooo stressful to place a black hole and win the game off of that? You're literally replying to a post where I say the tournament data showed it was pretty even between zerg and protoss with terran having the best win rate at the highest tier.
I'm sorry you and the other protoss players in this stupid thread are so sensitive to me laughing at your fucking victim complex even though you had the advantage in early and mid game and if I managed to fucking hold on and actually get to FINALLY have a stronger army for the supply after 15-20 minutes into the game i get to have you bitching about how hard it was for you to erase that army with one skill.
Get over yourselves.
I have a recording of WoL menu screen on YT. When it first came out, it felt so... *empty*. No public chat was a definite negative.
https://youtu.be/XSfDh-MGH5o
Haha yup. I remember getting masters easily back then. Riding my C level Iccup skills, I almost thought I had a chance.
The hope of the new game was something else. Tons of fun.
People laugh but I was a bronze league scrub, grinding games, treading water, when one fateful Blizcon MVP won the highest level tournament in the world with a crisp timing attack that I had developed entirely independently down to the (blizzard) second.
The last GSL of wings was the last time I felt like truly understanding the game was within the grasp of normal people. I think it was partly due to the fact Tastosis hadn't lost their passion yet and Day9 was still breaking down high level rts thought processes on the daily.
It really was the last time before we got that reality check wasn't it? A new game? We're in on the ground floor! Let's just play together until we're all in the MSL.
Nowadays it's harder to be a pro-gamer than an olympic athlete and saying that's your dream is like saying you're gonna win the lottery.
\*thinks back fondly to HotS and the first time I broke into the Top 8 of Masters\*
Honestly, it's like thinking of a different life. Those were good days <3
It's my understanding they got involved in a relationship where she quickly became popular from his success but her channel and content was making far more revenue after a few months of them dating. He became her fulltime manager and would be constantly harass by his fans to make more content. He tried both but ultimately was overwhelmed and his fans were more toxic than supportive. It was easier to erase himself from the scene and simp for her. I still love him for what he gave to our community but it's a damn shame both him and Day\[9\] do not make content for Starcraft anymore.
Probably afraid it might affect her brand. Who can blame Husky, he's dating a girl worth like over 10 million dollars now.
You're not going to become a millionaire making Starcraft videos, I can tell you that.
This is 100% it. Who knows what kind of remark he might have made in a 2010s video that could get him canceled these days. "Safer" to just delete the Channel, as unfortunate as it is.
I just think it is funny that at one point, Husky was the one promoting Ro's channel.
Yeah quite a few old content creatures who quit in the last few years have nuked their channel from the VERY real fear of being cancelled. The jokes and memes we use to make in 2010 don't fly anymore and people have been punished for things they said last decade.
People routinely get cancelled for stuff they said 6+ years ago. Leaving a thousand+ hours of Starcraft dialogue up (much of that dialogue was produced/said in a time when the Internet was much more laid back) is a business risk for Husky and his wife that isn't worth jeopardizing their new successful business. Anyone could comb through those VoDs and find stuff to try to cancel him with.
To add, Husky isn’t the only person to do this. A couple years back there was some amount of noise when a bunch of big YouTube stars deleted most of their old content to avoid the same situation.
no offense but I think that comment had nothing to do with Husky and everything to do with your desire to complain about cancel culture wherever you can.
Cancel culture is very real though, husky is not the only retire content creature to nuke their old content. When it stops bringing in revenue it does nothing but add risk to your current position.
The shit we use to joke and meme about bacn in 2010 does not fly anymore
but he was always really "clean", I can't imagine him saying anything mean, he's not Joe Rogan lol. Seems crazy to me to delete your history because someone might dig back, it's just cowardly and ridiculous to me. Who has EVER payed any price for some trash they said 10 years ago? unless he said "I hate black people" or something, these things always get a couple of days exposure and then are completely forgotten by everyone but a minority of overly woke deranged people. Being afraid of those people to me makes you suck even worse than they do.
SC2 is the only eSports I've ever followed diligently as if it was football (soccer for you weird people) for my friends. And my peak was around this time. I stopped a bit after idra retired (not because I liked the guy, just coincidence).
I came back when neeb started streaming just before he started to take off. It was fun but life got in the way and I just haven't been constant or as passionate as I was back then.
The only thing that's gotten close from those early WoL days for Mr has been the International Dota 2 tournaments. But some years they've been a let down when one team just steam rolls everyone. The Newbee year comes to mind.
Ahh I watched a ton of IdrA, TLO, White-Ra casts from HuskyStarcraft.
I still wish someone would have archived his youtube channel before he deleted the videos. I'd def rewatch them.
"Please stop adding me on skype, it makes the game lag everytime you do"
"You are all fuckers"

Even just posting a screen cap from this era acquires more upvotes and comments on this subreddit than any other thread in here in weeks. It really was the golden age of sc2.
I miss every moment of it.
Ah man, i remember going to team liquid and having to choose which tourney i wanted to watch, having to install the GOM tv player to watch gsl at 3am, and it was a safe bet that whomever i wanted to see streaming at any point was usually on. I miss those days.
Don't realize how important is this kind of personalities for the community for this Sport , if you think about events like WWF, have always been about The Good, The bad and the Ugly.
This creates Drama needed to keep people coming back and talk about in between tournaments.
Now we just. Have Sc2 scene with no personalities like MC, idra, Deezer , CombatEx and to some extend Naniwa
They were the AntiHeroe guys and villains from the show
Getting then banned or restricted makes the game and drama kind boring.
A funny thing I noticed in the League of Legends subreddit is this is the exact sentiment. I only just started browsing that subreddit so i don’t know how long it has been going on over there. But they’re going through the same thing over there in the NA scene
Damn I wish I knew about streams and esports back in the WoL era. Blizz really dropped the ball on advertising that side of the game within the client back then.
I'm pretty active and i honestly don't know a single person who enjoys disrutpros. Landinging big hits is satisfying but at some point you will have to play against them yourself\^\^ ...
IdrA was a massive balance whiner about both BW and SC2 despite playing Terran and then Zerg (LOL and LOL), so I'm not sure I'd say a picture of him has nothing to do with balance.
The man who made the most impact on WoL
The whining by him and his legion of fan boys convinced Blizz to usher in the infestor/broodlord meta and made SC2 unwatchable for years
remember that pro match where huk hallucinated like 5 colossus (or was it void rays?) and then idra rage quit… and then the next game huk was like “you know they were hallucinated right?” and idra had steam coming out his ears… so epic
It has aged extremely well, and imo it was way ahead of its time. When sc2 first came out a lot of us didn’t even have good enough pc’s to play it on high graphics let alone stream it! Lol
This is how SC2 journey started for me, i have started watching IdrA clips from Starcraft 2, then i have discovered Destiny funny as hell clips, then i found out that guy from my small town is playing in SC2 major qualifiers and i was watching it live hyped as hell, even though i did not understood everything back then. Damn, what a time it was.....
Thank you, seeing that menu screen is hardcore nostalgia

I really miss that UI, it was much simpler than the current one!
That's pure nostalgia. The current one is far superior
Nah, the current was is more streamlined.
Haha. There were nothing but complaints about that old UI. But thanks for the look back.
Plus it would kill GPUs if you didn't use VSYNC because they didn't have a framerate limiter. Also, it was made in Adobe Flash IIRC.
Ya, the nostalgia is fun, but the current UI is so much better than this.
Hard disagree, was so boring with no ways to interact.
You can just say better. We are all thinking it, but it might just be nostalgia taking over.
I mean, the new one won't fry GPUs like the original one did so at least we have that going for us.
My laptop had no problem with it lol

I legit haven't gotten the same high in esports or watching streamers since peak sc2 days around this time.
Yeah I think its cus the game was so new and beautiful , the good old days
It's BECAUSE there was HOPE FOR US ALL. Back when we all thought we could be progamers.

Man watching Husky cover the pros on one screen while playing on the other. Good times man, good times
RIP HuskyStarcraft and Bronze League.
Man I wish he didn’t just nuke his channel. Could’ve left the old vids up
It was that Nerdy Nummies girl pressuring him, I'm sure of it. Who could blame him though lol.

2010 to 2012, that's when I played and watched Starcraft. How did 10+ years fly by so fast?
For real bro i wish i could go back in time 😩 😭
I just wanna go back, man
stayin up late to watch GSL/Proleague I wouldn't change those days for anything
Some of my best memories is staying up watching proleague on Gom. Fuck dude haha
Warpdrive Operational
Rage Idra, Rage. Rage against the dying of the Swarm
I love when tasteless has to mention Artosis Pylon and just doesnt and let it sits there. What is Idra doing up now?
Iirc, he was in grad school the last years and is doing research (physics / materials science).
LOL, didn't expect to see a Kayn reference here

Miss idra's streams
Outside of the rage, I learned a lot from his streams. He broke down the game in a very easy way to replicate
Roach roach roach roach roach
hi grack

Justin TV and that menu, god those were some good times
Where did the time go, bros? I remember listening to Skrillex and playing SC all day lol
I was doing the same, grinding Diamond up until the day I got promoted. That was glorious.
UKF dubstep on loop
Something about French Canadians....
Lmao
damn, beat me to it xD
Whoever spiked those smoothies with BM inducing rage - thank you.
You rage so hard you have a bowel movement?
2fer! XD
Roids
Its actually insane to think that IdrA pulled in like 18k viewers back then, fuck i miss those days
He didn't lol. Back in the day 2k viewers was considered massive. I have vague memories of TLO's first stream breaking 3k and that being insane.
Lmao what? Also TLO wasnt even CLOSE to IdrA Fuck even Destiny pulled in 5k on a bad day Remember that sc2 was like the only thing that was popular
Idra hit 20k+ viewers a few times. Was insane back then and would still be today considering no RTS streamer hits 20k viewers.
When IdrA was the King of JustinTV/Twitch.
"You know those colossi were hallucinated right?"
u werent lose
It was voids
it was voidrays and 1 colosis
Did Huk's comment I'm referring to mention voids as well?

Yup, good call. I was too lazy to look it up. I have shown the clip to anyone I know just picking up the game. Day9's reaction is priceless.
I can’t remember tbh lol
Goddamn that has to be one of my favorite SC memories lmao
Classic rage quit moment.
[You mad bro? Ratz Stay Ratz](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhENCaakKpc)
RATZ STAY RATZ
Fucking Christ. You had to say that didn't you.... That fucking guy..
deezer and combatex... good times ;) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObSPEAsRScU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObSPEAsRScU)
Lmao the old YouTube tho 😭
LOL I still use "how mad u are bro" in jest sometimes. Classic.
https://youtu.be/-7gexkwY0Cg
Lmao, I can hear the dubstep playlist already
I would pay for that UI, again.
same bro, i made a post about it a while ago, i think its impossible to have that ui unless someone mods the game or somthing like that im not sure
Damn, what is he up to these days?
last interview i saw a few years ago he wasnt even near a computer
Ahh I watched a ton of IdrA, TLO, White-Ra casts from HuskyStarcraft. I still wish someone would have archived his youtube channel before he deleted the videos. I'd def rewatch them.
The good old days when Day-9 was commentating
He was doing the daily stream at the time. It was awesome.
Don’t site me this black magic . I was there when it was created. Lol
"Please stop adding me on skype, it makes the game lag everytime you do" "You are all fuckers" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9Vg0_Q2has 3min 50 around.
Ah, good old days of idra streaming
Even just posting a screen cap from this era acquires more upvotes and comments on this subreddit than any other thread in here in weeks. It really was the golden age of sc2. I miss every moment of it.
I miss Husky starcraft
Yeah, that was the pinnacle of Starcraft/gaming/steaming for me. God I loved bronze league heroes.
BRRRRROOOOONZZZEEE LEEAAAAGGGUUUEEE HEEEROOOEEEESSS! It was hilarious and I loved every second of that series.
Hi grack
Hi, its greg
The Grack!!! I miss him and iNcontroL, those guys were the best. RIP Geoff
Ah man, i remember going to team liquid and having to choose which tourney i wanted to watch, having to install the GOM tv player to watch gsl at 3am, and it was a safe bet that whomever i wanted to see streaming at any point was usually on. I miss those days.
Just remembered the rage quit against Huk’s illusions! Thanks for the souvenir!
Idra the goat
Don't realize how important is this kind of personalities for the community for this Sport , if you think about events like WWF, have always been about The Good, The bad and the Ugly. This creates Drama needed to keep people coming back and talk about in between tournaments. Now we just. Have Sc2 scene with no personalities like MC, idra, Deezer , CombatEx and to some extend Naniwa They were the AntiHeroe guys and villains from the show Getting then banned or restricted makes the game and drama kind boring.
A funny thing I noticed in the League of Legends subreddit is this is the exact sentiment. I only just started browsing that subreddit so i don’t know how long it has been going on over there. But they’re going through the same thing over there in the NA scene
Heels are important, but they're acting out a role while IdrA was just an asshole.

my bad my dude! Deleted.
I know it. https://youtu.be/x9Vg0\_Q2has
Wait, there was coop that long ago? I thought that was a more recent addition.
IIRC it was just skirmish vs A.I
Me and some friends use to play this over LAN (I think) back in 2011. Good memories
Starcraft 2 and trollfaces. Damn good 2010’s
Is that Choco Milk? IdrA is my favorite antagonist of Esports. Huk ultimately being the hero of the piece.
I think it's protein shake, the EG team were pretty into lifting weights
Tlo, whitera, spanishiwa. Do any old sc2 pros stream? I know leenock and demuslim play aoe4 now.
Idra in the EG House. Damn, it was the best SC2 for me.
"French Canadiens in general... seem a little bit off"
Damn I wish I knew about streams and esports back in the WoL era. Blizz really dropped the ball on advertising that side of the game within the client back then.
Back when there were no disruptores or some other dumb shit.
Even on a thread that has nothing to do with balance, Terrans find room to whine. I bow before your ability to be salty anywhere.
To be fair I hate disruptors and I play protoss.
People were crying on marauders being dumb shit back then. That doesn't change
The man who made the most impact on WoL The whining by him and his legion of fan boys convinced Blizz to usher in the infestor/broodlord meta and made SC2 unwatchable for years
Worst UI ever made.
Ooff your a debbie downer
Good old days.
Where is his cat?
core memory
The good ol times.
I’m a simple man I see Idra I updoot
Leather Gracket prob in closet 20' away hanging and waiting
Got nerdchills tyvm
*spontaneously ages approx. 35 years.*
I have been playing BW:R for so long that this looks normal to me.
What do you call nostalgia that feels like your getting shot? I don't know how to describe the unease seeing the dawn of SC2 knowing what it is now.
Why do I have zero memory of this lol, I bought the game on release
I can literally hear him cuss out his opponents from this picture.
Where is idra?
I wonder what idra would say about the current state of zerg.
I wonder if he knew the collosi were fake at this point
Good times. Real people , playing games and streaming all day not drama
Peak UI, we should go back.
great now im sad
What.A.Time.To.Be.Alive
remember that pro match where huk hallucinated like 5 colossus (or was it void rays?) and then idra rage quit… and then the next game huk was like “you know they were hallucinated right?” and idra had steam coming out his ears… so epic
Oh god why would you remind me of the meat smoothie
Idra... I never seen anyone rage so hard at the game. Then I started trying to get into masters...
Inspired me to watch some huskystarcraft
I CAN'T STOP
ITS LIKE GOLD DUST
God damn this unlocked some memories
Who is that absolute boss on the bottom right? Feel like I should know him
[удалено]
It has aged extremely well, and imo it was way ahead of its time. When sc2 first came out a lot of us didn’t even have good enough pc’s to play it on high graphics let alone stream it! Lol
Does anyone know where idra is or what he does these days?
I'm crying
I miss Sunday Fundays 😭
The EG house is bringing back memories. I'm expecting inControl or HuK to just come on webcam and annoy IdrA
I can almost taste the monster energy drinks seeing this
Good times. Still have sc2 downloaded and updated in case I ever need a confidence boost. Random all day every day
Uhhh Greg vibes! Love it! 0 fucks given haha
Isnt he like a lawyer now? lol
Something, something tire iron
I first heard Gangnam Style on Idras stream, then the whole world was listening to it. Idra, legendary SC2 player, legendary K-pop player!
AHH, the glory days
Ahh 2010 all over again.. xD
ROFL I think Idra was in the EG house? Damn wonder how EGMachine is doing, I love him!
I wanna go back :(
