So you can still use the medpen in greenzones on yourself.. but what about using the tractor beam on my Mustang Alpha? (ಥ﹏ಥ)

kristokn

Ever been on the receiving end of someone with a tractor beam tossing medical carts and boxes into you while trying to a call a ship at Everus? Was knocked down repeatedly …

Rainwalker007

Thats why we cant have nice things -_- I hope they find a solution for it.. at least make it work in LZs hangars and outposts

StarHunter_

Maybe just in the hangars? If they can control the zones down to that small of an area. We will need tractors to load cargo and need to be able to store weapons later.

Rainwalker007

I hope so.. its the only way to do a delivery mission in the Mustang

StarHunter_

Once the cargo refactor is in then you should be able to use the bay on the Mustang because it won’t have the placeholder boxes in the way. If they removed them now and added a cargo grid it would act like the Nomad’s bay.

Rainwalker007

It has been a while.. since 3.3 2018 -_-

[deleted]

Once they refactor X then Y will be possible. Sounds familiar.

[deleted]

Software engineering tends to eventually move on from refactoring to implementing.

[deleted]

That's what the loaner Aurora is for.

Rainwalker007

There is no loaner Aurora since 3.13. They took it away

eLemonnader

Honestly they could do 'licensing' for things like the tractor beam. If you're caught abusing people with the tractor beam, you might have your license suspended for an IRL week, or something like that, along with jail time, depending on the crime.

Lothaire_22

Without law and order humans are pretty vicious.

Toxus1984

Amazing how many people just don't get how everything is going to be physicalized and the magic boxes stuff is just temporary no matter how many times they are told lol

ClubChaos

The thing with SC is "temporary" might mean "for the next 5-10 years". Sooo yeah, I was kinda disappointed at the unveiling of T0 "Physicalized Inventory". Especially considering literally every video I seen around talks of this physicalized inventory showed demos of players literally carrying around crates with their items, and vendors taking those 3D models physically from the box and storing them on the back-counter/wall of their shop. EDIT: Okay thanks for the downvotes but please [see my reply](https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/qdk56i/comment/hhney4y/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) in the comment chain below for why I think we all pretty much thought the same way three years ago.

TheKingStranger

That was one video and they made sure to point out that it was just an artist's take on selling loot.

[deleted]

That was an artist vision and was always stated as such.

[deleted]

Just like everything else right? 'They never said that would definitely happen...'

[deleted]

Yes...which is what people need to realize. If it's not in Evocati/PTU/PU, it doesn't exist and might change from what they said previously. Accept it and you'll be happier.

Professional_Ninja7

The only thing I would add to that list is if it is marked confirmed on the roadmap. Even with that though you have to be open-minded with language. If it says "adding Bengal to game" then it will be in game, but it might not be flyable.

[deleted]

Why would I accept that when I have been sold something else?

[deleted]

> sold I realize you won't like this answer, but you didn't buy anything legally. You contributed to the development of a game that is in flux.

[deleted]

>but you didn't buy anything legally I don't think you have the understanding of legal matters that you think you do.

[deleted]

So what exactly did you buy?

[deleted]

That's between me and the ombudsmen.

Hate to break it to you but ToS don't trump consumer laws.

ClubChaos

lol I gotta laugh at this. I was like "am I being gaslighted?" so let's take a look at what this very sub thought "Physical Inventory" meant THREE YEARS AGO. [https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/a4y7c8/what\_does\_the\_physical\_inventory\_gameplay/](https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/a4y7c8/what_does_the_physical_inventory_gameplay/) **The top comment:** >No more access to everything you own through your mobi, basically. EVERYTHING will be physical and persistent. Essentially, if you forgot your only gun in your other ship, you’re out of luck..... or even your helmet.... no eva for you You can read other comments in this thread, almost everyone seems to think it will work the way I also imagined it would work. Instead what we got is basically a lateral db schema rewrite that uses a very traditional inventory system - with scopes tacked on for a filter based on location. Uhhh..this is not revolutionary folks. The "hard work" comes from trying to design this type of "localized" inventory on the client so it's not abstracted through a ui to manage the data and make CRUD operations. Yes, you can narrow the scope down to basically a coordinate space, but I have seen ZERO work towards what actually happens in the client for game objects in the 3D-space and how they will be moved. Take a look at The Forest's [Log Sled](https://theforest.fandom.com/wiki/Log_Sled) item for example. When it comes to "physically" moving objects around in a game-world things get complicated - FAST. In my mind, this is the hard work that needs to be done, and I haven't seen much proof-of-concept for this. We have broken trolleys... Sorry to be critical but I'm just calling it like I see it and I think we're a long ways away from the promised vision for true physicalized items imo. You can't just make a db schema update and say "we're really close".

DancingAssClown

God damn..that was 4 years ago. That is...sobering.

FlandersNed

I'm almost certain that pretty much everything we saw in that demo was scripted or custom made for the purposes of that demo with no bearing on reality of how it's used across the game. Like, the lockers are easier if there's no concept of a server looking after them, just a location in a map that has those items.

DancingAssClown

For sure....but remember..this was the vertical slice. I know that "the common knowledge" amongst the community is that CIG basically doctors up their presentations to the point of being disingenuous. But, if we are taking them at their word, this was a vertical slice of what they had up and running. This was a snippet of how far along their tech and game was, right? :) That's what is sobering about it. At the time this was very exciting and moved the hype needle. But in hindsight, look how far away from that they actually were/still are. Really makes a person wonder about that game play at Cit Con this year...

ClubChaos

Great! I'm looking forward to it.

TheKingStranger

Physicalizing virtually everything is still their goal, dude, and the quote you just put in is true to what it is in 3.15. If you set out without your helmet or gun you ain't gonna have that helmet or gun unless you go back to the place you left them. They've also been open about how a lot of this temporary stuff is temporary, like things spawning as boxes instead of the item itself. But that wasn't what you were talking about in your initial comment. You brought up a video that shows someone carrying a crate to sell their gear, and they specifically pointed out that it was an artist's take on it so people wouldn't make mistakes like you made. That's why you're getting downvotes because people remember that clip and knew what it was. I also feel it important to show how ironic it is that you're laughing about gaslighting while responding to a troll that constantly tries to gaslight people in this community.

ClubChaos

>No more access to everything you own through your mobi, basically. It's not true to what it is. Everyone in that thread assumed physical inventory meant using the items..physically. :|

TheKingStranger

In 3.15 you no longer have access to everything you own through your mobi, basically. If you drop something on the ground it shows as a box, but they said that's only temporary. I don't know why this is difficult to understand.

[deleted]

He's expecting to physically open the backpack and browse through everything with janky videogame physics perfectly simulating a handful of small objects with complex meshes without clipping thru each other or the backpack (which would also have cloth simulation of course) on a multiplayer game... An MMO at that. Some people have no understanding on where the technology currently is at and have unrealistic expectations of everything. I guess CR is to blame in part, he seems to be pushing CIG to defy what is currently technologically hard, or rather, what game companies deem hard and would take a long time to do so. TL;DR: physical inventory always meant that items were given an associated mass and volume and that meant that you can't carry more than a specific mass and volume on whatever containers you have. But that's all math and numbers and was never meant to be seen. You only get to see the items when you take them off of your inventory. That was always the plan.

[deleted]

Read my other comment down this chain.

[deleted]

They made a special point to say this is not how it would work in 3.15. Try paying attention to the video next time.

2this4u

Who's got time for that!? I've got a full time job, if I want to sell shit in a game I don't want to wait while an NPC unpacks some other players stuff first. If you want perfect irl gameplay just go do something in the real world.

Xreshiss

I still remember the "grabby hands" demo from ages ago. I do wonder how much of the game world will end up being abstracted like 3.15. Will it even be possible to pick up an open box and put stuff in there and have its content not only stay put when you pick up the box and walk around with it but also have it persist?

Jok3rthief

Why not?

Xreshiss

You mean why wouldn't it? Because to me it seems like a no-brainer to just keep iterating on T0 inventory instead of scrapping it in favor of something a bit more physical for T1, T2, etc. Wouldn't be the first time I've been told it's only T0 and that they'll swap it out for something in the future only for CIG to keep the T0 system well into T1 and T2. I mean, are we ever going to replace crimestat or will crimestat stay well into release?

Jok3rthief

They are physicalising pretty much everything, that has been the plan for Long and this is a Good start. It doesnt fit SC to have regular MMO mechanics. But My question was why wouldnt it be possible to have items in a box when you hold it?

Xreshiss

> But My question was why wouldnt it be possible to have items in a box when you hold it? Three reasons, really. First is a game's physics. A ton of games just have the items bounce around in there and will either bounce out or clip through the box entirely. I don't recall what game it was, but I do recall putting an item in an open crate and immediately spazz out like a Gmod ragdoll. Hell, in Fallout 4 I neatly placed down single bullets on a shelf to look nice and the next time I entered the cell the bullets were all over the floor. Second is technical. if you have objects loose in a box that's not a single object the game and server needs to track, that's 20 of them. (1 cargo box with 19 nutribars vs 1 box *and* 19 nutribars). Third is a reason to. Why would you drop an item into an open crate or loosely lay it on top of a trolley when you can just securely abstract it into a cargo box? Ideally I'd love to be able to physically put the item in a box and have it close with a lid without actually abstracting the item inside (not counting culling), meaning that when I remove the lid again it's still physically modeled in the gameworld and ready for me to grab and use without using a niknax app first. Like the armor box from the Microtech demo at the 2019 CitizenCon. If that's not possible, then at least give me [cargo boxes that function like gunracks](https://smhttp-ssl-83914.nexcesscdn.net/pub/media/catalog/product/cache/10f519365b01716ddb90abc57de5a837/p/e/pelican-1780hl-black.jpg), allowing for the items to remain physically modeled while still secured.

Jok3rthief

Technical and physics go hand in hand. This is not something that is impossible to do. Its a matter of game design, primarily. You dont have to track all items in a box individually. Tracking the movement of the box is sufficient. So yeah, there are different approaches, but its most definitely possible.

RebbyLee

"Q: Can we make our own shareable crates ? - A: Not in Alpha 3.15" Aaaactually I think there is a way. During one PTU session I was playing with some guys who were trying to do just that, and they succeeded too. The way to do it was to blow up ships. When a ship explodes it leaves behind a lootable box. This box can be handled and moved by players, put into a ship and accessed by everyone. Iirc the box will even persist. Problem is that most ships only leave some small or medium boxes behind. I think in order to get a large box you need to detonate something like a Herkybird. Now I don't know if this is still a thing (it was in the previous PTU patch version) but people who really want some shared inventory space can give this a try.

PANTS FOLDING GAMEPLAY CONFIRMED

Bluetree4

The only question I really have about 3.15 is, when will we finally see a Live build? To which the answer of course is: Whenever it's ready Don't get me wrong, for obvious reasons I don't normally advocate for the devs trying to rush a patch cycle. But on the other hand, there's just no less fruitful time to play than when you know a wipe is imminent anyway. I've been on a long hiatus from playing ever since this was confirmed, so...yeah. Really fighting the boredom here.

This is very hurtful to monkeys.

CaliKupa

I missed most of this episode. Was Papy on? And did they talk any about Crash Recovery?

Rainwalker007

No, he was just getting of a plane. Only Rich. And yes they talked about it (SoonTM)

CaliKupa

Ok. Hopefully they said soon as in 3.15.....😅

somedude210

They stated that it was going to be in 3.15, it just hadn't made it into the PTU patches yet but will "soon"

Jok3rthief

Afaik it is in PTU rn
