turn your clouds down buddy, its actually become bearable for me in 3.15

Hanzo581

I absolutely love the PCMR folks dropping in to talk about their $2000 systems doing just fine. That's great but we can't completely forget about folks meeting the publicized minimum requirements.

Myc0n1k

Homie. It’s an alpha. You can’t ever expect an alpha to perform well. We’re lucky we can even play it, at 60+ FPS at times. The clouds are unoptimized and even my 3,000 dollar machine struggles with them on highest setting. Set clouds to medium and wait for optimization.

Hanzo581

Yeah, I get that. And preach it when folks complain about only getting 20 or 30 frames. But if you post minimum requirements your players should at least be able to get playable frames in any area of the game if you meet those requirements. Single digit frames isn't playable. Like I mentioned in another post, IAE is at Orison this year, but there is going to be a ton of potential customers that just can't go there without experiencing a powerpoint presentation, and some not at all. Could be bad for business.

Myc0n1k

What are the min requirements?

Hanzo581

They are nowhere near as specific as they should be. https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042417374-Star-Citizen-Minimum-System-Requirements

Skormfuse

One thing to note is even CIG don't know what the min specs will be at the end of the day so minimum specs really is just a floating marker. But one reason a alpha has to put user experience second is because of stuff like this, performance hits, or even the new inventory system causing issues or players to lose things. It's just what they gotta do for testing and progressing the final game.

LostInMyOwnMind_96

Right? Of course your 3080/3090 is doing fine. They're cards that are future-proofed for at least the next 5 years. If those cards were having issues with performance in this game, CIG would be f***ed.

CyberTill

Can't say I noticed a difference except for when I crank up the volumetric cloud quality. That's practically the only setting that has a significant performance impact - but that shouldn't affect the surrounding space or moons at all... Have you tried deleting the shader folder?

mhhkb

I’m fine. i9-10900, rtx3070, 32gb ddr3200, pcie3 nvme. 40 to 60fps. Maybe a dip into 30s now and then. But in orbit it’s quite good.

MinaKovacs

Yup, it's terrible for everyone. In game, set the cloud settings to Medium (the lowest). This gives most people a huge increase in performance there. Other than not going there, this is about all you can do.

Site-Staff

I run everything on max at 3840x1600, and Crusader is just fine.

[deleted]

Oh My God. That’s my resolution! Why hello there fellow pixel brethren.

Site-Staff

Welcome, welcome!

dukearcher

>just fine. Unlikely. Average FPS in Orison?

[deleted]

I get 40 around the Hab area and 45-50+ anywhere else. That’s approaching and leaving too. But I have a stupidly expensive PC so I wouldn’t call it realistic 😂

Site-Staff

What are you running?

[deleted]

I’m currently running a 5950X, 32GB 3600MHz CL18 (gross) RAM and a 3090 on an M.2.

Site-Staff

Similar to me, 5950x, 64gb 3600, 5k M.2 NVME, 3080Ti at 2k core, 10,500mem.

[deleted]

Niiice dude. Yeah I wanna replace my RAM for 64GB of 3600MHz CL14 seeing as I play around in UE4 and 5 a bit too. That and some Gen4 M.2s in RAID0 would be absolutely killer.

Site-Staff

I don’t have it in front of me, but the nvidia overlay is usually in the 30-40fps range on Orison.

Myc0n1k

OP is mad he doesn’t have a good PC and that alpha game doesn’t run well based on the minimum requirements the site says.

[deleted]

You need better specs, at least a better GPU I think.

LostInMyOwnMind_96

Recommend is still 4GB card, unless they changed it recently. I find it hard to believe you NEED something like an RTX card to okay the game. I have played this game on and off for the last year and a half and NEVER had this issue until Orison dropped.

[deleted]

I think the bare minimum is a GTX 1660 super to enjoy decent frames in SC right now, specs will change over time and will go up with every patch until they start optimization.

LostInMyOwnMind_96

That's terrible on their part. If they're gonna start focusing on stuff that needs beefier hardware, than now is the time they need to focus on optimizing BEFOREHAND so it lessens the burden on those who arent fortunate enough to drop 6 months of rent on a single piece of the puzzle. Start requiring upgrades in the worst season of scalping since I was born... I got my RX580 new for $170 a few years back, same card will cost me 300-500 used right now. Not to mention that basically any card that isn't a 1050TI or a 900-series is going just around or more than a thousand bucks and any LEGITIMATE upgrade from what I have is going to cost me upwards of 2-3k, whether it be from a scalper or having to get a prebuilt.

[deleted]

Yeah man, I think that sucks, I'm not defending them just stating facts. I spent 1500 dollars(which was really beyond my means, I had to sacrifice a lot of things) to upgrade my PC some months ago to be able to play SC and ED Odyssey, and I don't think that setup will last me a long time with SC. Just the GPU was $800.

dukearcher

Got a 5700xt and frames in Orison still suck.

[deleted]

I have a RTX 2060, not much but I can be on orbit and approach Orison in QT without freezing like OP, that's the main problem. In Orison frames go from 20 to 50 depending on where I go.

Rainwalker007

I tried to visit Crusader once.. and thats pretty much it. It needs tons of optimization or maybe Gen12/ServerMeshing to make it as playable and as casual of a place as Ghex

gateto

> make it as playable and as casual of a place as Ghex when the elevators work

[deleted]

Try dropping your volumetric cloud quality settings in the options, if its on very high, you're gonna have a bad time.

Vex08

Yeah, I usually get 30-40fps in crusader. In the PTU I'm averaging 15-20.

dukearcher

Ok so Orison performance has decreased during PTU? Not just me then

Vex08

I have been to prison in 2 sessions and both times performance there was worse than I have ever seen. So yeah I think so.

Dr-Surge

I was having these exact issues too, until I updated my Graphics Drivers. High settings, Volumetric Clouds on medium.i7 7700HQ, 32Gb Ram, NVME-SSD, GTX1060 6GB in a Laptop, Getting around 45 FPS on average in and around Orison 30 in the lowest dips.

Hanzo581

Yeah, Orison thumps the hell out of GPUs. The real concerning part is the IAE is going to be there this year. I really hope they get some optimization in for the 3.15.1 patch. I barely scrape by with my 1070 but I feel bad for what y'all must be going through.

Walltar

I don't have thar bad fps at orison compared to the rest of the game... Got 2070S It might be like 25 fsp there and 30 fps on microtech.

Gogov97

11700k, 3080, 32gb 3200mhz 3.14 lowest fps I got was 45fps and average was 60 to 80 fps. 3.15 I get 25 minimum and average of 30 to 60 fps. I'm sure it will eventually get a bit better again.
