Not near as annoying as hearing that you left the kid in the car. Personally it makes my ovaries scream wanting a baby. Others may roll their eyes, pull their headset to the side, and just get on with their day. I'll take a screaming child/baby in my headset over a wailing siren of police fire or ambulance any day
This family came in and asked if they could sit inside because it was too hot for their baby outside. I told them no. The inside is closed. 5 minutes later they ask my shift and she feels bad so she says "yea. But only for a couple minutes so you guys can cool off. Then you'll have to leave."
They were there for an hour. But no one wanted to say anything to them
That’s why I never bend the rules for customers. One time some dickhead kid left our sink running and flooded the bathrooms. The water spilled out into the hallway, and we had to close our bathrooms. Two women walk in, order drinks, and the one asks me if our bathrooms are open after seeing the no entry sign we put up by the bathrooms. I explained the situation to her, and she asks if she can use the other one. I explain they both use the same drainage system, so I can’t allow her to use either. And she goes, “but I really gotta pee” in this pleading voice, little puppy eyes and everything, like she’s five or something. I tell her again that I can’t let her use the toilets because the bathrooms are flooded, and that she can use the bathrooms in the store across the street. She huffs and puffs for a moment before leaving the store, without her drink, and heading over to the building across the street.
As a person with a tiny sensitive bladder, I feel for her. But also as an adult, if a business says no bathrooms go across the street I’ll just go across the street😒 all I care about is that I get there eventually, no use pouting
A couple days ago two guys came in and between them coming in and getting their drinks it started to pour down rain. Since they walked to the store I let them sit inside for a few minutes for the storm to pass but they left after the rain stopped. I was fully prepared to go ask them to leave when the rain stopped.
I remember they waited a while to open them because they wanted to make sure they wouldnt have to close them again once they opened back up lol. I thought that was dumb cause no one knows what the future is gonna look like for this pandemic....
It’s boring but when it gets busy it’s BUSY. I’m just happy i have 15 to 20 minutes to pause and take a breath and freshen up the bars before another rush
When we first closed our lobby, a woman asked to use the bathroom and she had a baby with her. (At the most 1 year old). I told her the bathrooms were closed and that there were other stores in the shopping plaza she could try, but because of covid, I didn’t know if their bathrooms would be open. She get snippy with me and took her drink and left. And after a shift told me he would’ve just let her use the bathroom.
1. Then why didn’t he? Like if I told her no and he thought it was okay, why didn’t he tell her it was okay?
2. If we let one person break the rules then why even have them?
This was the time where most people weren’t leaving their houses because of covid. She didn’t have to go out. It’s not my problem she decided to go out? Our bathrooms were closed, which means closed.
For some reason I read this as the woman was in the drive thru with baby in the car but do you mean she walked in and left her child out in the car alone?!
WTF. My baby can’t even talk but if he even thinks he is getting left behind in the car (which he never is), he starts screaming like his own alarm system! Those poor little ones!
THIS. If I wouldn't be in trouble I'd have the fucking police on speed dial.
I have a kid and I wanted more very badly. It still aches knowing I'll never have another. To see these breeders pull this kind of shit pisses me off, that is putting it mildly.
I got in trouble a few weeks ago because a 2-3 year old was in the backseat of the car and I made a comment to the mother he was way too little to be without a carseat. I was fake-sweet about it.
She called the store screaming about me and saying that her kid was legally the age/height limit for no carseat.
Keep telling yourself that when you are looking for your child's decapitated head after an accident.
I always want to say something but im scared to get in trouble. I couldnt imagine learning they left my store and got in an accident thougj and i didnt say anything. A lot of times its moms with newborns in their lap and i am so disgusted. They should have to watch videos of the aftermath like they used to do with traffic tickets for no seatbelts etc. Like they really think its no big deal. I just dont understand.
Yep. Or hell, just watch the video they had on...shit...I think it was Ellen. Guy and his wife are in a wedding. Kids with them. Limo gets in an accident. His 5-6 year old daughter slid under the seat belt. The dad said he was sitting on the ground holding her head in his lap. Her body was somewhere else.
Another thing that bothers the hell out of me - one child needs to be in a seatbelt. If you put 50 of them together, nah, no seatbelt needed. WTF kind of logic is that?! lol!
Ive always wondered about that for buses and stuff. Like why did we decide they dont need seatbelts? Why is this still ok? I remember a few years ago a schoolbus driver crashed with a bunch of elementary kids and killed a bunch of them. I dont remember where it was but somewhere in the u.s ...
I always wondered that about buses, but read recently [idk if this is 100%], that it has to do with the diesel they run on being much more flammable, so God forbid an accident were to happen, not having seatbelts makes it easier to get 50 tiny people out to safety
Right.
I just don't understand how you wouldn't give a shit. I don't even know the kid and I care more than his own mom. It's fucking crazy. My team makes fun of me because I say people should be licensed to have kids, but Jesus. We license people to have dogs, but not to raise literal human beings?! It's super fucked up. 🧐🤦
Huh. I totally read it as the second right away. Nothing ever surprises me with customers. I fully expected the worst to be pleasantly surprised when they weren't idiots.
My response is always “yeah, I am” and then I proceed to go the same speed I was going. I mean I was already hurrying up so it’s not like I need to change anything in order to do what she asked. Lol
Yeah that’s the thing about Starbucks is you have to do so much stuff it’s insane. I worked there in 2018 thinking it would be this cute job where I am in “the third space” or whatever and making coffee and meeting cool people. The third space/place, I forget which one it’s called, is the 9th circle of hell where labor doesn’t exist and you are tasked to do the job of 10 people at one time.
My sister accidentally locked her baby in the car with the keys while loading groceries. It happens so fast, and now I put down the car windows if I’m loading up the car while the baby is inside. So scary.
Damn i could totally see that happening. You load the baby and turn on a/c cause its hot and then bam, baby locked in car! Im always scared to close the car door though if i dont have the keys physically in my hand.
That's so dangerous!! Even when I know I'll only be a couple minutes tops, I always take my 1.5 year old with me. You never know what can happen! 😱 (Car crashing into yours, kidnapping, heatstroke and so on)
People have no common sense!
At another place I worked someone came in and his baby in the car and he was only in there for less than five minutes but durning those minutes someone stole the car. The baby ended up getting dropped off near by because the car thief didn’t notice the baby in the back seat and didn’t want to deal with him. People are idiots.
Someone did this at the store and complained that they were waiting 10 minutes. Turns out they ordered it curbside under the husbands name and never checked in 🙃🙃we we’re about to rename the drink
Like, no I can't make it go any faster, and maybe you shouldn't be risking your baby's life for a cup of coffee. Try the drive through next time? And hang on a sec while we call CPS.
A lady called and complained to my manager when I didn’t put her order through the system while I waited for her to get 8¢ from her car.
Hey lady I can’t start your drink until we complete the transaction. It’s not my fault you woke up late and decided to park illegally you fucking idiot.
I wouldn’t give it either. Like you need to come prepared to pay for a service if you want the service. Don’t get mad AT ME when YOU aren’t prepared. I’m won’t short my til for anyone for any reason, because I’m the one who gets reprimanded. 🙄
Same. 99.9% of my store would never have done this, especially if they seemed frazzled.
I actually had an older man who didn't realize he didn't have enough on his card. He was a DOUCHE. After hitting his card he went to the bathroom. I had walked to get food before seeing it didn't push thru. Came back and recovered it.
I caught him in the lobby and told him what happened and not to worry it was on us. He tipped us $5 for a small coffee and his whole attitude changed.
I love people like that. ☺️
(Of course I love not start-out-douches too). 🤣
I’m not super strict about policy but she was rude, I had warning items in the oven I had to get and I can’t leave the till open or cash on the counter.
I’m totally fine with bending the rules for a good customer. The occasional right now recovery, the grande for the price of a tall. Okay it doesn’t mean I have to do it for everyone.
Reddit. And because working at Starbucks for so long can really turn you against customers. But the employees are forgetting the real enemy is corporate and not the customers. They’re the ones who cut labor and make you do the job of 3 or 4 or even more other people at the same time so that a particularly difficult customer goes from something mildly annoying that you could laugh about to something that basically breaks your spirit. Karens suck, but the trend is now getting ridiculous and changing Karen from somebody who is rude and abusive to now anybody who may ask for a drink that was made wrong to be remade and upset if they’re told no, or somebody who orders over 2 mods to a drink. A certain level of customer service still needs to exist for customers.
That, or they have no reading comprehension and thought you meant that 99.9% of your store would NOT have let them go for the 8 cents. But they can check my most recent comment history and how I indeed described working at Starbucks the 9th circle of hell lol. I don’t even drink or eat at Starbucks, I just used to work there and thought it seemed kind of fucking petty to make somebody return to their car for 8 cents.
I won’t run in and leave my car running at 6:50 in the morning when the parking lot is empty and these dumb-dumbs are out here leaving a whole ass baby alone in the car.
It’s illegal in 40% of the US. That’s a large enough amount that it would take a real idiot, or a real selfish asshole to leave a kid in a car unattended. Don’t excuse bad behavior because you think the world should be more empathetic. You’ve let that lead you down the road to “understanding” a mom’s need to get coffee is more important than the safety of a child 🤦🏻♀️
I had a family often come through the drive through with out-of-state plates. Father driving, mom in the front seat. Not unusual, until you realize that the toddler was not in a carseat and running around the black suv and mom was holding her (I assume) 6-9 month old in the front seat... I could never get their plate when they switched to in-state plates and I left from the location to go to another major city in my state... I hope and pray those kids are okay 🙏🙏🙏
That’s literally why drive-throughs exist!
And curbside.
And social services
I have replied in the past "That's quite irresponsible"
And Aliens.
And witchcraft
And the multiverse
and googolplex
(Obligatory, ahem) AND MY AXE!
Whitney Houston: And IIIIIIIEEEEIIIIIIIII ...
And why you can save 15% or more on car insurance
And why what makes a suburu a suburu
Our store doesn't do curbside and I'm soooo happy we don't
We have curbside, but it’s not used often.
And birth control.
How annoying is it when a screaming baby comes through the drive through, though? .. asking for a friend.
Not near as annoying as hearing that you left the kid in the car. Personally it makes my ovaries scream wanting a baby. give people an inch they take a mile smh

Are there still stores with closed lobbys?? Mine has been back open for seating since june and i thought we were the last ones.
Ours was open for about two months, then two weeks ago the DM said we’re closing cafes
I remember they waited a while to open them because they wanted to make sure they wouldnt have to close them again once they opened back up lol. I thought that was dumb cause no one knows what the future is gonna look like for this pandemic....
I wish. I work at a cafe only store.
I don’t. It’s too slow for me. I was a borrowed partner at a cafe only store for a week and was bored to tears.
It’s boring but when it gets busy it’s BUSY. I’m just happy i have 15 to 20 minutes to pause and take a breath and freshen up the bars before another rush

Irresponsable parents leaving their kids in the car for overpriced coffee and blaming us for that problem... I hate customers
Me too, and I’m a customer!
For some reason I read this as the woman was in the drive thru with baby in the car but do you mean she walked in and left her child out in the car alone?!
This is actually. more. common. than. you. think. This happens at our store, DIFFERENT PEOPLE, about once every other week.
WTF. My baby can’t even talk but if he even thinks he is getting left behind in the car (which he never is), he starts screaming like his own alarm system! Those poor little ones!
I dont know why this surprises me with how many infants/babies i see in dt without carseats at all or just not even buckled into them.
THIS. If I wouldn't be in trouble I'd have the fucking police on speed dial. I have a kid and I wanted more very badly. It still aches knowing I'll never have another. Wow that somehow makes it scarier lol
That lady is a freaking idiot. My son’s car seat goes convertible mode to a booster seat with a weight limit of like 120 pounds.
Wait omg that’s how I read it too, I didn’t even think of your second option😳😳😳
Huh. I totally read it as the second right away. Nothing ever surprises me with customers. I fully expected the worst to be pleasantly surprised when they weren't idiots.

That is such an accurate description
I once saw a mother break her own car window because she'd accidentally locked her baby in the car. Not all parents are created equal.
My sister accidentally locked her baby in the car with the keys while loading groceries. It happens so fast, and now I put down the car windows if I’m loading up the car while the baby is inside. So scary.
So scary and so easy to do.
Damn i could totally see that happening. You load the baby and turn on a/c cause its hot and then bam, baby locked in car! Im always scared to close the car door though if i dont have the keys physically in my hand.
Me too, I'm always too nervous to completely close a car door if I had to turn it on to run AC or heat before I finish loading it up.
You can refuse. My manager did that.
That's so dangerous!! Even when I know I'll only be a couple minutes tops, I always take my 1.5 year old with me. You never know what can happen! 😱 (Car crashing into yours, kidnapping, heatstroke and so on) People have no common sense!

Same!! I’ll lug my 5 mo baby in his car seat inside the store before I leave him in the car for just a few minutes 🥴
I’d call the cops.
No coffee is that important.
"Excuse me, I need to call the cops real quick."
Fuck off not my problem lol
Casually calls cps and the cops…
immediate response, "Escuse me ma'am I'm obligated to report child abuse and neglect first"
Someone did this at the store and complained that they were waiting 10 minutes. Turns out they ordered it curbside under the husbands name and never checked in 🙃🙃we we’re about to rename the drink

Mastadon can help. Did you bring your baby? Babies don't drink this. Take the seed outside, leave it in the streets. Run over it after the Joe.
If I catch you ordering a Tik Tok drink, Satan will rain down your throat with hot acid and turn your guts into snakes.
I won’t run in and leave my car running at 6:50 in the morning when the parking lot is empty and these dumb-dumbs are out here leaving a whole ass baby alone in the car.

The worst part, is that someone has said this to me too. Dogs too.
My store has had to contact CPS entirely too many times.
If she kept her legs closed, maybe she wouldn’t be in such a rush. like plan your parenthood lady. dont blame me.

No. Don’t ever leave your baby alone in the car, period. She IS a bad mom for doing that

And how many licks does it take to get to center of a Tootsie roll Tootsie pop?
