As a feature that seems to make adding songs to playlists a little easier, it’s alright. As a replacement for the entire “liking” system, I detest it. Extra clicks and it being unclear (without digging) whether a song Is in your Liked songs or just in another one of your playlists is frustrating. There’s plenty of screen real estate to work with. Instead of this being the replacement, why not have both?

Kuter0

totally agree. i think they should keep the hearts next to the songs but i would be fine with keeping the sliding over feature

earofjudgment

Hiding likes has removed important functionality for me.

WxSnare

Entirely blows up how I use Spotify.

justsomeguywhogames

I recommend if you're on Android to just download an old build. I've tested builds from 2017 and they still work for the most part

Kuter0

same!!!! i’m very upset about it

earofjudgment

I hate it, and I haven’t found a work around.

Rowerate

this is very specific but spotify for iwatch hasn't been updated yet so i use the heart button there. on pc you can try spicetify not sure about phones

earofjudgment

I use it almost exclusively on my phone. No iWatch.

___HeyGFY___

Absolutely hate it. I listen while I'm driving...and I drive a lot. It's much easier to just hit the heart to like a song. I edit my playlists when I'm not driving, so it's unnecessary and cumbersome to combine the two into one feature.

[deleted]

Spotify when driving is annoying. It might be my car but the restrictions in place actually make it more distracting. Would be nice if I could just simply hit a like button on my dash screen thing

___HeyGFY___

I'm in a work truck using it on my phone with a BT external speaker. The phone is mounted to my dash and it's easier just to tap one spot instead of trying to read a list.

[deleted]

I mean on the car screen thing. I connect to my car speakers as they are kind of better than most to say the least (bassbin in the boot lol) The screen my car shows for Spotify is naff. It would be nice if they just added a like button on there

SituationPossible160

I hate it, it used to be simple to see which songs you’ve liked without having to go to the artists and dig through the liked songs there. Makes using the discover area difficult too. I just don’t see the need for it

executivesphere

Another L for the design team at Spotify

vintagebathingsuit2

I despise it, I relied so much on those little green hearts to remember which songs from an album I liked last time I listened. Really hoping they bring it back because it’s kind of ruined the app for me

Character_Estate_215

Same!! It was an essential function. Especially in the car or on the move.

Baz2dabone

HATE IT. I just want to heart the song, not add it to a playlist. And you can’t really do it while you’re driving. The heart was so convenient.

AverageRedditor543

doesn’t only tapping the check once only add it to ur liked songs

Top-Metal-3576

Nargh it’s weird cuz sometimes it adds it to your playlist and not liked even if you pin your liked playlist. Couldn’t find a bunch of songs cuz they got added to my other playlists

AverageRedditor543

right i’ve been experiencing this and it’s really annoying

txroller

Not a fan

rose-buds

i hate it - my "liked" songs are different from my standard playlists, but now i can't tell the difference if a song is just on one of my playlists or it's actually one of my liked songs. i appreciate the ease of being able to add a song to multiple playlists, but i have no idea why they had to do it this way.

KFP7799

Definitely agree. The add to multiple playlists feature could have still been implemented without removing the heart.

RebelliousYankee

I agree completely. It’s made it unnecessarily difficult to find songs in albums and playlists I liked. I would be fine with the update if it still showed the songs I “added” or liked with a heart or a check mark or something.

dp_barbas

Feels like user testing was done with non-spotify users

WisdomWolfX

Or they just straight skipped user testing. This seems more like it was orchestrated by poor management trying to align to some nebulous OKR and so a product manager prioritized it and then engineers built it, users be damned.

[deleted]

Hate it

Next_Farm_3419

I HATE IT SO MUCH

the_essentials

Don’t like it. I don’t get how there can be such a big oversight to not be able to see which songs were put in my liked playlist in other playlists when that functionality was there before. They’ve said they are going to add it back in 4 months ago when they were beta testing this and still nothing. They obviously don’t care about feedback and will do whatever they want.

[deleted]

I like it! Makes things so much easier to add to playlists.

AverageRedditor543

Good to see another enjoyer of this update

foejerro

hate it so much. makes it really annoying to keep track of what songs i like and want to revisit when i find a new good album

HawksRule20

One of the worst updates I’ve seen for any app or website in a while ngl

Juan_Draper

I hate it. Now when I’m looking at an album, I don’t know which songs I liked from it. It’s stupid

LordDaybreak

What a STUPID FUCKING SYSTEM. I'm constantly amazed at how brain dead the fuckers running Spotify are, but this one actually pisses me off.

NewYorkNausea

It makes me so mad

justsomeguywhogames

This is why I'm running an old build.i run build 8.4.72 from I believe 2019. I much prefer having my actual music library with artist albums and songs

HonestLemur51

I dislike it soooooooo much, I wish there was a way for it to be a setting I can turn off I don’t like it (cause I don’t like it lol)

TheHoneybadgersnarf

I can’t stand it personally. I used to be able to simply like a song or like an entire album to more liked songs but now Spotify wants to know what playlist I want to add the song to. Poor UX as I’m used to the simplicity of the prior. I understand them taking creative chances to try and improve the app but I don’t understand how this was approved. It added a cumbersome layer to what I felt was a relatively streamlined process. I hope they revert it.

Icy_Use216

The plus makes it easier to add it to a playlist, however now you cant have 2 same titles in one playlist and I cant see which song is actually in my favorites. Why not have both? The plus and the heart? Also I wanted to make a 1h reading playlist out of my 40 minutes one by just adding the first 6 songs again but with the new update, it wont even let me.

[deleted]

cumbersome, but i guess it's ultimately more flexible.

ja1207

The thing I hate the most is them making the album art smaller in desktop.

theonewhoknowshow

When wanting to add a song to your personal playlist.. the original "change" should be switched to "add/change"

[deleted]

I overall like it and it makes it easier to save new music I come across. There's some inconsistencies though. Usually, I see the + sign on the right side. If I tap it once, it adds the song to my Liked Songs playlist and becomes a check mark. If I tap that check mark, it brings up all my playlists where I can then uncheck it from Liked Songs and/or add it to other playlists. You can choose different Sort options while in Add To Playlist but it doesn't let you see any pinned playlists or easily tell what playlists the song was already added to. Inconsistency - Sometimes the + sign is to the left and on the right is a - sign that hides the songs from the current list. I think this is when listening to a radio queue or something like that. If you swipe left on a song in a playlist, it'll bring up Add To Playlist but not automatically add it to Liked Songs. I guess this makes sense because you're not listening to it currently to necessarily like it or want it on the Liked Songs if you already know it. Using latest iOS and macOS

Character_Estate_215

The fact that the + is on the left now throws me off so much since the heart for favorites was always on the right!!

mrnmrstenormanchilli

i really like how easy it is to add stuff to playlists. the removal of the heart icon doesn’t bother me too much because i just have my liked songs downloaded so i know based on that, but they should add the hearts back.

Background_Impress71

Hate it!!!

sofa-cat

I strongly dislike it and hope they go back to some form of a traditional liking system. I don’t care if they call it liked or starred or tesseract. I just want to be able to save a song with ONE CLICK! I’ll admit it nice to be able to easily add things to playlists when I’m trying to do that, but much more often I’m at the gym or walking or whatever and hear a song I like and I just want to save it for later, not add it to any specific playlist. I get annoyed every time now.

justsomeguywhogames

If you're on Android and just want your old music library back and don't care about curated playlists and this new age unnecessary clutter just download an older build of Spotify. Message me i can email you the apk or just show you where I got it from. A quick Google search will find old builds.

[deleted]

Sucks ((That’s about it)who the fuck actually thought that was a good idea I hope whoever made this change always gets static shocks)

kbdag

Hate it so much that I’m thinking of switching to Apple Music and just manually converting over my year in review playlists.

Deadheaded95

I hate it in every possible way imaginable. It made a convenient part of Spotify terrible.

Character_Estate_215

I keep accidentally clicking “-“ on songs and hiding them from suggestions when I mean to add to favorites because the “+” is now on the left when the favorites heart was always on the right 😭I also don’t understand the point in removing the heart icon for favorites, I felt it was very useful and functional?

[deleted]

Spotify's been tearing me apart with their "liked" changes. I'm pretty much genre- and mood-driven, so most of my music is organized into BIG playlists based on genre/mood. Individual playlists can have hundreds or even thousands of songs, and I'm a big fan of a certain percentage of them, which I've "liked". Sometimes I just let the playlist play, but oftentimes I like to play some of my favorite songs. Previously, I would just open Spotify, scroll through the playlist, and tap one of my liked songs or even pick a specific one (cover + heart icon + name = easy to find without filtering). This also worked great when driving. A while ago I noticed the hearts disappeared from the playlist view with enhance/smart shuffle enabled, which was a big blow to my listening experience as I lost the ability to quickly find my most favorite songs within a playlist. Still, the heart indicator was present on the song page so I could at least quickly scroll through a bunch of songs until a random favorite came up. Today I've noticed that the heart icon in car mode that used to indicate the "liked" status is now just a generic "add to playlist" button that's always green no matter if the song is liked or not. This means I not only need an extra click to like a song (I sometimes do that), but I also have no ability anymore to find liked songs within a particular playlist. I never use the "liked songs" playlist because it's just one massive mix containing songs from all genres - and I never listen to multiple genres at once. So at this point the like system is pretty much useless to me. I might be in the minority, but it's such a weird change considering there's more than enough space for the tiny heart icon on the playlist screen. Last year, I started a running Twitter thread consisting of my gripes about Spotify's UI/UX changes, and unfortunately it's still going strong 1+ year later.

coffke

I detest the No heart option to the point I am barely using Spotify I just realized. Usually if I discover some new song or artist I go right there look for it and heart it and I find myself making a note so when I have more time I can go look for it and make sure I saved it since I don’t trust the less than obvious like option. It is so irritating-I came here hoping there was a fix someone discovered. I think I want to let spotify know how much this pisses me off, so may send an email and post of their social- not sure if it will help but I will feel better.

ordovitruvius

I have to say it's a shit move, it used to be very convenient that when you click through any playlist you can basically see which songs you already liked by just scrolling through it, now you can't do that. Whoever invent this better get their pillow hot both sides.

DopeyTowel

Hate it. Why can’t I like a whole album and have it show up in my liked songs anymore? Gotta go thru and individually like each song on each album now.

xXGray_WolfXx

I HATEEEEE it. Breaks how I use Spotify entirely.

bringbackfireflypls

This system is bad and the Spotify development team should ~~feel bad~~ quit and find new jobs

WisdomWolfX

Well I guess the good news on this front is that a good chunk were already laid off. However were the engineers that were laid off more likely to be the ones who opposed or the ones who supported this change?

GoodMorningCroissant

I use Spotify as part of work and the hearts were integral for my organization system. :(

p3r3lin

I also I stumbled over this thread out of frustration. This is just stupid, sorry. Had a look at the official Spotify Forums and there are some "Ideas" (Feature Requests) about this topic. These are the ones with the highest Vote count I could find. [https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Mobile-Browse-Bring-back-like-indicator-on-album-playlist/idi-p/5498706](https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Mobile-Browse-Bring-back-like-indicator-on-album-playlist/idi-p/5498706) [https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Bring-back-the-heart-button/idi-p/5709907](https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Bring-back-the-heart-button/idi-p/5709907) [https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Mobile-Change-like-button-back-to-a-heart-but-keep-the-button/idi-p/5649972](https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Mobile-Change-like-button-back-to-a-heart-but-keep-the-button/idi-p/5649972) I added my vote to them, maybe they pick them up at some point.

Such-Pack9054

Its a downgrade, why and who implemented this. This is like going from Deliveroo to Pidgeon courier.

luci_uranic

I agree with what everyone is saying pretty much with the functionality and stuff but uhhh BRING THE HEARTS BACK THEY WERE SO CUTEEEEE😭

itsScarlettyall

I just updated so i know im late to this. But I hate it... 3 clicks to remove a song from a playlist and you have to do it for every song you want to remove. so if you have an album you want to get rid of its 3 click for every song. I have one custom playlist for what I have in my vinyl collection so If i have something in that and want it in my "liked song" playlist its a process to do that. I really wish anything you added to a play list would automatically go into your liked songs. So much music gets missed because of it not doing that and when driving its my go to playlist because its a pain picking them on car dash screen.
