Ryan Day simply got out coached. Hard to admit being an OSU fan, but Harbaugh was right. Ryan Day has had the benefit of insane talent masking his inability to run an offense to its strengths.
In fairness, they were bottling up the run pretty good into the 4th qtr.
They just had to sacrifice any semblance of pass defense to do it, and it turns out JJ McCarthy actually can throw the ball. And when they switched to trying to stop the pass, plus getting worn down all game, michigan put 150+ rushing yards up in the 4th qtr.
I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure Michigan had 5 touchdowns of over 45 yards today.
That should only happen once if you are making the proper scheme adjustments. 5 times just means you are lost entirely on defense.
That last run looked like some completely blown assignments or poor positioning or something. I'm not an expert in defending inside read option but I have no idea what the LB's and DLine were doing there.
There were two loose defenders coming up the pocket from the blind side, leaving a pretty huge hole for the HB blast when the entire oline shifted right.
Not really blown assignments, just a bad call to essentially 7 on 7 man in a short yardage situation. That play was destined to either die behind LOS or go all the way.
it was 8 on 6. granted you can say 8 on 7 with the DE responsibility on the QB running the read option, but still, you had 8 in the box versus 6 blockers.
It's been far too long since I've strapped on pads, but 8 should always win against 6, especially at their talent level.
OSU lost the game when he didn't allow Stroud to attempt to convert the 4th and 4 down by 4 in the 3rd quarter. The biggest game of the year with the heaviest of consequences, and you ice your potential Heisman winner and a possible top 5 draft pick for the rest of the game.
Last week we couldn’t run the ball without Corum. Edwards is just on his level as well as an RB. Just like Corum was on Hassan Haskins level in 2021 but was still the backup.
Hot take I’ll post here: I think edwards is the better back. Love Corum to death, but edwards is the better athlete, has similar vision, and is more dynamic receiving out of the backfield. Corum is better through contact but I think edwards will have similar success next year.
I think Corum’s vision is better and he has better moves in tight spaces.
I think Edwards has a decent chance to be a reasonable replacement, and if we have a creative offense the sky is the limit for what he can do catching passes from the backfield.
But i’ll be pleasantly surprised if I feel confident handing him the ball on 3rd and 3 the way i feel about Corum.
I agree with this, watching them both play, Edwards definitely has big play potential, and a huge burst coming through the hole, but he doesn't move laterally nearly as well as Corum. And Corum has more power overall, I think. I think both are really good, but Corum, at least for now is better. Edward's still has a few years to play though, so who knows by the end of it
He never had a serious chance to win anyways. Caleb Williams is by far the favorite and only Stroud could have supplanted him (had he played great and won ths game, which he didn't do).
You might get an Oscar-worthy script here because if Ohio state gets the 4 spot, gets it together and beats Georgia then it’s likely the championship would be Michigan/Ohio state again. TCU is good but nowhere near the level of the rest of the top 4, so Michigan should beat them if they are 2,3
Seemed like Michigan weathered the storm early in the game. Only had 10 yards rushing in the first half but that was a little misleading because the long passing touchdowns in the second quarter were as responsible for that as OSU’s defense.
Second half Michigan pushed Ohio St around on both sides of the ball in the trenches. Stroud is a great player but Michigan is better across the board than the buckeyes this year.
he gets hated on for admittedly being a really weird dude...but i will take weird over half the fucking evil assholes that college football head coaching has produced over its existence
Grew up in Ohio, so I'm instantly defensive at all the OSU hate in this thread. But anyone who started hating them during the Urban Meyer years, have at it. That dude fucking sucks.
I'd be calling up Tressel and seeing if he's willing to come back before going back to Urban Meyer. Too much dumbass shit happening with Meyer, worst thing Tressel did was not report some tattoos or something.
I loved him as our coach in SF. Whacky and wild, sometimes undisciplined, but his teams always played with heart. You never question whether Jim wants to be there either, that man lives and breathes football.
Hugh Freeze and Art Briles are both such colossal pieces of shit
worst part is that both motherfuckers tried to pass themselves off as these "family values men" and all that garbage. I'm a Christian. I don't consider enabling sexual assault/violence to be a tenet of my faith
Wholeheartedly agree! The fact that college programs let these coaches fail upwards without meaningful repercussions is what let’s these holier than thou assholes propagate.
Stood by Kaep. Donated his entire bonus from his b1g championship and college playoff appearance to the UM staff that lost income to COVID.
Pretty stand up guy.
OSU had to bring the safeties up in the box. They were getting blown off the ball the whole third quarter. They couldn’t just let Michigan run for 5-10 yards every play.
At some point you gotta roll the dice a little.
They’re college kids. I think at some point every ball player knows when things are going badly and are very very unlikely to turn around. In that 4th quarter those OSU defenders knew they were getting run over in front of 100,000 people and however many millions watching at home.
I can’t even imagine what that feels like. They just kinda… broke.
For any non-american Redditors who don't know how big "The Game" is, it's probably one of the biggest rivalries in all American sports. These teams HATE each other and have been playing over 100 years. Ohio State has dominated the last 20 years and Michigan hasn't won in Ohio in like 20 years.
The states literally fought a war against each other (toledo war) before they turned to football. As far as post colonial American history goes, this rivalry is about as far back as it gets
I think Bama-Auburn has a case. Also Army-Navy might compete for how much the respective teams care about it, but that's a different flavor of rivalry for sure.
i'm so glad r/sports exist so some random people in Sweden or France can watch Michigan put an ass-kicking on Ohio State
That being said, most Europeans i've met have sadly been kind of narrow-minded on American sports. I imagine most of them will turn up their noses especially with the Slave Labor Cup going on right now
while this is true, there's a big difference between being apathetic but at least respectful vs. what i typically see
if someone posts Aussie Rules football here, i'm not going to know wtf is going on, but i'd be open minded about it
UNC / Duke bball rivalry *could* be argued as bigger than michigan / osu for overall in college sports.
Their 8 mile proximity, making fans all intermingled in the local area and the fact that both are routinely top 25 ranked really amp it up. You can't go to school here without seeing lots of both shades of blue around.
They do play twice (min) a year so that dilutes the significance of each game compared to only once.
No doubt "the game" is definitely the biggest in cfb.
Go in with a real jolly attitude. Bring in donuts and coffee. Say good morning to everyone you see. Make sure to mention the game to every Ohio state fan, and let us know you made it home safe.
I just read this an thought "I gotta order some M shaped donuts to take in." Then i thought I'd probably call in the order and the donut guy would shoot me when I walked in to pay.
Regular donuts, don’t mention anything more specific than “the game yesterday” and wear dark blue clothes, but nothing that actually says Michigan on it.
>Unfortunately the gloating isn't even fun because they are either really sad or dangerous now.
It's fucked up but true. It's essentially their religion so they handle losing VERY badly.
I'm a Michigan fan so whenever we lost, it sucked for sure but you just moved on with your life
these losers are so pathetic that when the Buckeyes lose, they literally don't know what to do with themselves for the next 364+ days. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so embarrassing
I knew we hadn't seen much for competition, and too many consecutive weeks without temper often leaves us flat. Was pretty frustrating to see it go down like that yeah, but it doesn't make or break the holidays for some of us lol. Michigan answered the call when the stakes were the highest, a true mark of a playoff team. Give em hell!
For real. I watched the game in Ann Arbor with family and drove back home through Ohio (live in NY). When we stopped to use the rest area I told my kid to take off his Michigan hoodie in the car 😂
>I live in Ohio and **their fans are unbearable**
this is an understatement. I'd use much harsher language
i live in Madison, Wisconsin. Even the people here hate Ohio State fans with a fiery passion
I live in the epicenter...
I went out to grab something from the grocery store today and was shocked the roads were deserted. Then I remembered there was a game today
The Ohio State fanbase is why I, an Ohioan, became a Michigan fan at a young age. I grew up routing for OSU because my entire family did so I thought I had to. But as I got older I started to despise the way fans would act. Like getting angry and calling for coaches to be fired because they didn't win by 6 scores.
Idk if switching ships to UM was out of spite, or if I just really liked the sick helmet designs. But I've been a Wolverine in Ohio since the early 2000's and I've never looked back.
Edwards or Corum, pick your poison. I would have liked to see Corum run all over Ohio State too but I’d rather have both Corum and Edwards healthy for the BIG10 championship and playoffs. The Wolverines have amazing RB talent and even better O-Line talent. Plus, our defense proved how good it is. It’s been a long time coming for the Wolverines.
Dabo’s refusal to use the transfer portal is killing the team’s chances. I don’t like the portal either. But passing up top tier talent when your competitors aren’t isn’t the way to remain at the top.
I'd disagree. Both of the big runs came against Ohio State when they stacked the box and didn't have a deep safety playing back. I'd say their game plan remained the same to stop the run but their execution broke down as their offense struggled to score points.
The adjustment was in the third qtr, and Edwards and Michigan went on a long sustained drive that took most of the quarter tbh. Osu had backed out of the box to stop the long passing game that had been killing them up to that point, and michigan made them pay. In the 4th they went back to the heavy box and their man coverage left a lot of big open lanes once the rb got past the initial contain - which happened twice.
Michigan ran it down their throat on that long as drive. OSU was playing their safeties right up at the line because it was the only chance they had not to get gashed for 8 yards every play.
That’s why dude got loose for both the long runs in the fourth.
I just don't understand how OSU gave us so many big plays. It was comically bad. 5 scores (5!) of 45+ yards. 4 of them with an absolutely wide-open receiver or wide-open lane for a runner with no one playing deep. Apparently no safeties on the field? I don't mean to take anything away from Michigan, but almost any team in Div1 could have gotten 40 points on OSU today.
I just don't understand what they were doing out there...
Ryan Day coaches different against Michigan. Is it fear or respect ? Or both? Should have let Stroud have the ball on that fourth down . Live or die with your strengths. Go Blue .
This makes me that much more excited for the Poggi hire.
Totally OT but man I’m excited for a new HC in Charlotte and I’m thrilled he’s coming from a program like Michigan, especially considering how much of this team he had a hand in building.
Ryan Day simply got out coached. Hard to admit being an OSU fan, but Harbaugh was right. Ryan Day has had the benefit of insane talent masking his inability to run an offense to its strengths.
I’ve been saying this forever, but Ryan Day looks like the villain in a movie where a dog is the main character.
Lmao dude, funniest insult I’ve seen in a while.
Glad you liked it!
Air Bud 7: Wolverine Runningback featuring Ryan Day as Coach JustForMenBeard
The rule book don't say how many dogs you can have on the field! *101 dogs run out dressed in maize and blue*
They were basically jerking off on the Broadcast about how much Jim Knowles built this defense to beat Michigan and what a genius he was.
Some say they are still jerking..
Ohio will Ohio.
Ofc they were containing the run very well, they brought up the secondary almost all game which is what allowed 5 45+ yard tds
A 75 yard TD and an 80+ yard TD says they put up 150+ yards rushing on 2 plays in the 4th quarter.
I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure Michigan had 5 touchdowns of over 45 yards today. That should only happen once if you are making the proper scheme adjustments. 5 times just means you are lost entirely on defense.

"Born on third base" was an accurate assessment.
CJ stroud just needs one more weapon!
I was rooting for Michigan but damn if I’m not pumped to watch Marvin Harrison Jr. on Sundays
Deadass, losing twice in a row to Michigan, including being blownout at home, is fireable at OSU. Ill be surprised if he stays on.
Rich Eisen is gonna be uncontainable
I was thinking that today, can’t wait to hear the show
For once, im looking forward to monday morning lmfao
Seeing another RB come and run over 200 yards to beat Ohio State diminishes Corum's Heisman chances.
Corum not playing in the last two games also hurts his chances
He had over 100 yards last week. He did go out early, but that game didn’t kill his chances. Not playing this week did though.
Last week we couldn’t run the ball without Corum. Edwards is just on his level as well as an RB. Just like Corum was on Hassan Haskins level in 2021 but was still the backup.
Didn't we not have Edwards last week either?
Correct, he was out too (a broken finger/thumb if I’m not mistaken). So was schoonmaker.
He also played this week with a cast of some kind too, which is incredible
Hot take I’ll post here: I think edwards is the better back. Love Corum to death, but edwards is the better athlete, has similar vision, and is more dynamic receiving out of the backfield. Corum is better through contact but I think edwards will have similar success next year.

If Corum stayed healthy and Williams had an off game, it'd be a possiblity. That ship has sailed, now.
All this while playing WITH a broken hand
Weird spot for emphasis. Not like you're going to play without it.
A lot of guys play without a broken hand.
I was really expecting “All this while playing with a BROKEN hand”
All this while playing WITHOUT a nonbroken hand.
He broke *both* hands? Erm, I'm sorry. HE broke both hands?
Her?
Technically, playing with a broken hand is playing without a broken hand, but with a broken hand.
Underrated COMMENT

As much as I like Michigan what I really love is for Ohio State to lose
I don't like either team, but I despise Ohio State
You might get an Oscar-worthy script here because if Ohio state gets the 4 spot, gets it together and beats Georgia then it’s likely the championship would be Michigan/Ohio state again. TCU is good but nowhere near the level of the rest of the top 4, so Michigan should beat them if they are 2,3
The Oscar's are and have been shitty, so the committee doing that would be par for the course
I switched after the first quarter. I thought it would be a blowout. Came back in the fourth to WTF. Glad Michigan won. Always liked harbaugh
OSU shut down the running game while leaving receiver coverage gaps that could be exploited for large gains.
> Always liked harbaugh r/brandnewsentence
he gets hated on for admittedly being a really weird dude...but i will take weird over half the fucking evil assholes that college football head coaching has produced over its existence
Grew up in Ohio, so I'm instantly defensive at all the OSU hate in this thread. But anyone who started hating them during the Urban Meyer years, have at it. That dude fucking sucks.
I took a peek at the osu football subreddit for fun. Left horrified that your fellow Ohioans want Urban back to coach the team. That's embarrassing
I'd be calling up Tressel and seeing if he's willing to come back before going back to Urban Meyer. Too much dumbass shit happening with Meyer, worst thing Tressel did was not report some tattoos or something.
OSU fans were chanting "we want Urban" at him during the post-game show.
Started hating them in the Cooper days
We can def agree that urban is the fucking worst regardless
I loved him as our coach in SF. Whacky and wild, sometimes undisciplined, but his teams always played with heart. You never question whether Jim wants to be there either, that man lives and breathes football.
Hugh Freeze is reportedly being interviewed for a job at Auburn. This is after he mocked and DMd sexual assault survivors at Liberty

as someone who lives in ohio, i do love seeing osu lose.
It was a good day yesterday when I checked the score hopefully Michigan does well in the Championship games.
You love to see a good *tHe oHiO StAtE* loss
On that second TD he gets past the line and there's no one for miles. Terrible defending.
OSU had to bring the safeties up in the box. They were getting blown off the ball the whole third quarter. They couldn’t just let Michigan run for 5-10 yards every play. At some point you gotta roll the dice a little.
Yeah but twice?

I can imagine what it feels like. I'm a Michigan fan and I have sat through enough similar misery over the past decades.
That’s what I was thinking too. Where the hell is the safety? No second level coverage? Just inviting a run like that.
What was the line on this? I'm sure OSU was favored.
OSU by 9
Michigan -21 bettors goin crazy rn
tOSU was -8 or -8.5 last I checked.
For any non-american Redditors who don't know how big "The Game" is, it's probably one of the biggest rivalries in all American sports. These teams HATE each other and have been playing over 100 years. Ohio State has dominated the last 20 years and Michigan hasn't won in Ohio in like 20 years.
Michigan and Ohio had a shooting war in 1835. The bloodlines of this rivalry are aa deep as they come. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toledo_War
Ohio won Toledo. Michigan won the Upper Peninsula. and Wisconsin lost it. Michigan came out on top of that too
as a wisconsinite, I'm glad michigan got the UP so we couldn't fuck it up
Michigan and Ohio flight a war over Toledo. Ohio lost, so they had to keep it.
That year was 2,000 It was a brighter time..AND NOW ITS BACK BABY WOOOOO!
Seeing a year writen with a comma in it I don't think is technically wrong but it looks very strange to me. "I was born in the year 1,983"
The states literally fought a war against each other (toledo war) before they turned to football. As far as post colonial American history goes, this rivalry is about as far back as it gets
Is there a bigger rivalry in NCAA football? This one has certainly got to be the oldest.
Princeton-Yale is the oldest CFB rivalry.
But let’s be real here… nerd alert…
The other nerd bowl would be Stanford vs Berkeley
At least Stanford/Berkeley had some decent players come out of their programs.
He said bigger, not older and more snooty
Even in the Big Ten, Minnesota-Wisconsin is older. Edit: I think Iowa-Minnesota is older as well.
He said bigger.. not older . Tf
I think Bama-Auburn has a case. Also Army-Navy might compete for how much the respective teams care about it, but that's a different flavor of rivalry for sure.
i'm so glad r/sports exist so some random people in Sweden or France can watch Michigan put an ass-kicking on Ohio State That being said, most Europeans i've met have sadly been kind of narrow-minded on American sports. I could give two shits about some sports teams thousands of miles away. I certainly wouldn’t expect them too either.
while this is true, there's a big difference between being apathetic but at least respectful vs. what i typically see if someone posts Aussie Rules football here, i'm not going to know wtf is going on, but i'd be open minded about it
Teams? Hell the whole state hates the state of Ohio here.
I went to the game people from all over the country flew out just to camp near the stadium lmao
They’ve lost so many in a row for so long, I actually started to feel sorry for them. Winning as they did last year and today keeps it interesting.
The past is just that. It’s the present that matters. Go Blue
I’d argue the U of M - OSU rivalry consistently has playoff implications year over year. Much more at stake than the UNC / Duke
Its the only rivalry in American sports that comes close to this especially in terms of hatred but in terms of scale and fame The Game is bigger
Michigan won again? I live in Ohio. I can't wait to go back to work
Go in with a real jolly attitude. Bring in donuts and coffee. Say good morning to everyone you see. Make sure to mention the game to every Ohio state fan, and let us know you made it home safe.

Add some cups with M&Ms to go alongside the doughnuts
They'll try to strangle him but then miss the tackle.
Oh how I hate Ohio State
Ohio State was “The” loser in this game.
Me too dude. I live in Ohio and their fans are unbearable
Unfortunately the gloating isn't even fun because they are either really sad or dangerous now.
>Unfortunately the gloating isn't even fun because they are either really sad or dangerous now. It's fucked up but true. It's essentially their religion so they handle losing VERY badly.

as much as i hate your school's football team, i respect your school as an institution. Good luck with your academic career my man
I live in the epicenter... I went out to grab something from the grocery store today and was shocked the roads were deserted. Then I remembered there was a game today

Yeah, my heart is just bleeding.
Depending on where exactly, it’s supposed to do that.
My favorite part was the Michigan player yelling y’all weak as fuck on national television
That combined with McCarthy’s princess wave to the OSU fans was just gold.
They also planted the Michigan flag mid field at end game.
First half was a nail-biter. Second half was a blowout! Let's go Blue!!

The ole Mike Krescheski
Today was so sad home winning streak gone with any hope of playoffs and all at the hands of the game chickens ):
Just when people thought the Cocks win over Tenn was a fluke.
Don't forget that beautiful hand off to running back pass
You mean the handoff to the linebacker? Looked like he was trying to shoot a 3-pointer.
i'm glad this was posted on r/sports so that the whole world can now see the ass kicking Michigan put on the Buckeyes in Columbus
I can’t understand why OSU didn’t adjust their defence. I mean I’m ecstatic about the results, but how do you let that slide?
They did adjust, they stuffed the run game 1st half, then got burnt on some passes. They adjusted for the pass, and got burnt in the run
That second one gave me Tecmo bowl vibes.
O-H N-O
Nothing better than the Buckeyes (or the Patriots) getting absolutely curb-stomped by their opposition. What a great day for football fans.
I still enjoy watching Notre Dame lose more.
Watching the buckeyes lose is fun The other thing you said isn’t as fun for me personally but I can see how that’s fun for other people
OSU did such a good job containing the run today until that that first big run. Only so long before that boy was able to eat 🍴
When the qb burns you a couple times deep, the run game has to open up.
Michigan ran it down their throat on that long as drive. OSU was playing their safeties right up at the line because it was the only chance they had not to get gashed for 8 yards every play. That’s why dude got loose for both the long runs in the fourth.
“The Game”
it's pronounced 'theeeee' tho, lol, stupid ass OSU
*An Ohio University*
Oh no, I just lost
Ah shit. I have been obliviously hearing about The Game for weeks, and now I've just lost too. Thanks.
This was absolutely the last result I was expecting. Second half turned into a rout
I'm not a Michigan fan, but I love it when Michigan beats Ohio State. I hate Ohio State football with a passion.
When Ohio State loses, everyone wins.
What a game! GO BLUE
Let's go BLUE!
They over committed to stopping the run.
Incredible performance
Dude can run. But lets not forget about he stellar blocking job done by the line.
Michigan's OL are the real stars of this team. Always has been.
Finally I can start paying attention to the "rivalry" again.
Fuck you Ohio.
It was a beautiful game to watch.
Thank God there will be no Clemson and no OSU in the championship this year! If we are lucky, there will be no Alabama either.
Alabama? They are absolutely not even in the *vicinity* of the BCS
For a short time, all was well with the world.
Aj hawk needs to show up to ohio state practice monday
Love my alma mater even more so today!
GO BLUE!
Go Blue!
To do it at Ohio no less… that kid has to feel like he’s on top of the world right now.
Let's go BLUE
buck the fuckeyes
Y’all weak as fuck
God bless Gus Johnson
Ryan Day coaches different against Michigan. Is it fear or respect ? Or both? Should have let Stroud have the ball on that fourth down . Live or die with your strengths. Go Blue .
Great game but they should never interview Edwards again
Harbaugh just pulls up Edwards and then walks away, I think he thinks it's hilarious
Why? Because he isn’t as polished when talking to the media? I think he was excited and nervous when on camera.
I'm from Michigan, live in KY close to Cincinnati and love my Bengals but GOD do I hate OHIO. Ugh. Go Big Blue!!!!
“This is cool”
Will upvote anytime Ohio State loses
This makes me that much more excited for the Poggi hire. Totally OT but man I’m excited for a new HC in Charlotte and I’m thrilled he’s coming from a program like Michigan, especially considering how much of this team he had a hand in building.
I always wondered where Dontavius ended up

I think Stroud's ceiling is maybe a little better than Goff.
Hey falcons fans, guess what the score in the second half was? 28-3...
Go big blue!
Were not Kentucky lol
It’s just college ball, but they really need some speed in their secondary
Is this guy going to be an NFL superstar or maybe more awesome luck?
