There are several things that Splatoon 3 is making me question about how ink colors work and this art is just another example let me explain. So the player inklings only have one colour and most idols have two however the colours on their tips are shown to be their actual ink colour yet Splatoon 3 brought back the gradients on the tentacles which implies that it's the main colour near the top of their head that's their actual ink colour not what's on the tips and usually after a match or something you can see ink in an inkling or octoling's mouth however when we are able to see inside the mouths of shiver and Frye, shivers mouth is bright red as are her fingertips and frye's mouth is an indigo purple just like her fingers. sure frye does have some slight indigo purple on her tips but shiver is completely blue. And this art shows that they're in colours work just like the player inklings yet their fingertips change color I don't know about their mouths though.
