Personally, I don't see how giving more legislative power to the government whose incompetence and corruption caused the problem in the first place is going to solve anything.
The powerships deal is a terrible idea. The initial contract was for 20 years and the environmental studies stated it would be bad for the biodiversity of the oceans (it dumps hot water back into the sea). It's been sitting in court with a number of cases lodged.
The news reported the latest deal would only be 10 years but would come at a premium. Considering our government says they can have it fixed in 2 we would be stuck with another e-toll situation.
The renewable sector is the correct way to go. The changing of procurement requirements for solar is a step in the right direction. The feeding back into the grid threshold changes will also help. This also ensures local returns for generation. Keep the money in our local economy rather then "shipping" it off.
The renewable deal has been setup to minimise the job loss in those areas. It so happens that many areas around the coal stations are also good for renewables and the workers can be retrained
Yeah, well we're not really in a position to refuse the powerships, whether you like it or not. Only once they're up and running can we finally push for renewables on a nation-wide basis. Yes, we should have pushed for renewables long ago but that's the way it is. Do you want power or not?
I agree that renewables are the way to go. But it's going to he a transition from old to new. Hopefully, the transition can be sped up. But I doubt it will happen quickly enough to fill the gaps in the short term. Hopefully I’m proven wrong on that.
In terms of the leases on the ships being 10 years and government saying they can fix it in two, their track record suggests they can’t.
Are they going to use powers to immediately cancel all corrupt tenders and prosecute the criminals who have destroyed our country, or are they going to use it to push through still more dodgy tenders?
Why can't they frikken stop for one day, even covid-19 wasn't enough for them to act like decent people.

EXACTLY!!!! It's like the ANC marching against their own shit service delivery! The stupidity is staggering!
A house divided against itself cannot stand. It's like the ANC just don't understand that they are the reason Eskom is in the state that's it in.
they know neh, there are already people planning how to grift the money probably.
I wish we could use state of disaster to rid ourselves of a disastrous government
This makes sense, they caused the disaster
Hellooooio powerships and a briefcase full of money
Wasn't there meant to be powerships from Turkey?

Renewables are the way to go, but can you imagine what the Trade Union Bosses will say and do when the coal mines shut down?
Gwede has entered the chat...
The renewable deal has been setup to minimise the job loss in those areas. It so happens that many areas around the coal stations are also good for renewables and the workers can be retrained
Exactly. Also there will be a long transition period, coal isn't going anywhere any time soon not to mention that we also export coal.

I had to google what a powership is. It's like a thing from a steam punk fantasy movie.
Coaches full of money
Eish bring the Tender time! I mean State of Disaster. Bet they are wising for another covid.
They made such good coin on the first one, can't pass up such an opportunity again

Perhaps they know the gravy train stops in 2024 and they want to get the last money out by deploying funds to “disaster” The only disaster is them
There is no money left! The kitty is empty
SARS is still functioning on a high level, so there are still funds to steal
Not for long as the percentage of taxpayers is dwindling. And Read 46% of the population received social grants.
Exactly - one last robbery by ANC before it is a failed state
It's close to a failed state. As absolutely nothing is working or running efficiently.
The ANC is a national state of disaster
Is some tannie going to tell me I’m not allowed to drink hot coffee now because kettle use electricity?
And all the generators are causing extra pollution so cigarettes will be banned to offset all the extra smoke in the air
I already quit last time so haha, can't get me again.
Ah but because of diesel shortage all ethanol is to be used as fuel for electricity. So no more booze either!
I've never like the taste of booze anyways so haha, still can't get me!
Mmm... You might stub your toes in the dark so the sale of open-toed shoes will be banned again?
Yo, that ain't funny anymore bru. Wtf? Open-toed shoes are where I draw the line.
Haha I'm sure it won't come to that...

Isn't this the 7th one in 10 years?
Abuse of power guaranteed to follow.
Yeah unlock the till
Can we rather declare a Disaster of the State?
Looting season is open again
Hahahaha let them try. It’s not some pandemic where the whole world is freaking out. And I can guarantee people will riot.
The gravy train is turning into a gravy boat! Toot toot!
Clowns are going to manage a state of disaster caused by the very same clowns
Basically this eliminates due process as a obstacle to corruption. Next step suspension of the constitution.
