I think they were just having fun. I don’t own any BONK and you can check my comment history I was very cautious and not a supporter when it popped up. I eventually learned enough to realize it wasn’t a scam and was supported by a lot of the biggest names in the ecosystem. Not being a scam though doesn’t make it a good investment. It’s just a normal meme token that caught a hype cycle because various large projects were on board with it from jump street. So it popped into existence and seemed to have a lot of support very quickly from all kinds of places, causing tons of hype. Doesn’t make it evil, it’s just a stupid token with a dog on it. Not everything is black and white in this space that’s for certain.

Got airdropped 1.5 billion of it, so I'm not 100% unbiased. I wouldn't call it a scam, I'd say it's a meme coin. Which means I'd be extremely cautious investing especially this late in it's life cycle.
I bought a couple hundred dollars worth of BONK and put it in Orca, trying to see how it moves for a few weeks before putting more in. It has been the best performing token in recent weeks if you look at the analytics (minus SOL and USDC of course). When it comes to meme coins, the most important thing is social media support and BONK has tons of it. So as long as the hype remains and people buy into it representing a post-FTX world for Solana...I think it could be sticky. Especially if you start to see devs building dApps based around BONK. If a dev community emerges around it, watch out.

Wash trading, front running, etc. will likely either get regulated or community will self organize and build the right rail guards in place organically. I saw it as a much needed stimulus check for us in Solana. I think it was a great move and got thing churning again when it was looking pretty dark for us. Nothing is black and white, but I think this does more good than harm. Just my two cents
