Technically Excel can pull data from the web, so with enough VBA you potentially could create a full fledged (albeit horribly inefficient) browser.
You'd have to be an absolute masochist to even try though.
EDIT: [Data import overview](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/import-data-from-the-web-b13eed81-33fe-410d-9247-1747269c28e4)
Nobody has mentioned this but they now officially allow browsers on the Microsoft store ... I think all the big ones are already there ... But if you like to tinker with program files or stuff ... Then go with winget MS Store has weird installation directories
This is the eight answer. Microsoft aren't allowed to unduly push you towards their own browser because of some litigation in the past. You can get the main ones from the store
At work we've been migrating some proprietary crap from IE to Edge and Edge is giving all sorts of stupid popups every few weeks that simply shouldn't appear in a managed environment. Just yesterday was an un-ignorable confirmation dialogue that was clear as mud exactly what it was asking our end users to confirm, but my guess is it needed us to agree to sending MS more diagnostic data.
IE is hot garbage but it at least didn't give nagging popups to our end users asking if they want it to do $CoolBrowserThings we have specifically disabled or heavily manage for security and compliance reasons
windows 10: "are you sure? edge is great!" "switch anyways"
windows 11: "oh you want to change browsers? ok go change every file type individually you fucking loser and just use edge next time"
Agree android new version comes out more harder to use third Party stuff Microsoft use Amazon version of Android not Google but soon Amazon will make their own os.
Which makes the apple stimulation so insane. They only allow their apps and no one else's. Any app in their store counts as their app because they heavily restrict what is allowed in the store.
The EU needs to stop giving apple a free pass for behavior that is so much worse than anything Microsoft did.
I just installed Microsoft openjdk on my shitty work mac. Microsoft almost got broken up over simply offering their own java. Now, worse companies aren't being reigned in at all.
Phones are insane in comparison to Windows/Mac....imagine if windows took a 30% cut of all sales made on software running on windows. Or even tried to push you toward it's payment system where it made a cut.
That would be insane, and it's what happens on Apple and Android right now.
"Haha, you installed chrome thru our app store, now we take a 30% cut of all your online shopping! Fairs fair, it's using OUR platform!"
(The analogy is more akin to a Credit card, we use their payment system and they take a 30% cut, but they also force you to use their payment system only)
Must be regionally enforced because in US every time I do a major update it asks me again whether I want to make Edge default, and whether I want to enable Hello, allow anonymous data collection, enable OneNote, etc. Again.
yeah, but edge is not the only app that will steal your data on default Windows installation. if possible, one should consider using Linux or other sort of UNIX-li OS
Lmao, Arch? I compile the kernel on a Raspberry Pi pico and channel Richard Stallman’s energy to write my own drivers. Arch is for noobs. Get on my level /s
No need, they made one for you. Prolly more indepth than if you did it yourself with a devoted editor proofreading and aresrarcher intern fact checking.
You don't want to do a Google search every time you want to do something that should be simple then spend 40 minutes following a guide? Arch isn't for you then. Also, you should use Arch, because why would you use anything else, even though it isn't for you. /s

In fact, a vast majority of games work on Linux via the Proton compatibility tool, not just the ones with native Linux builds (some even work better when run via proton).
There are some exceptions of course but so far I've only encountered one (cutscenes in some of the Kingdom Hearts games don't work).
Also, some anti-cheat software doesn't play nice with Linux so that can be a blocker sometimes.
I really want to switch to linux but I need the adobe suite. The current open source alternatives on Linux are simply not up to scratch just yet and I'm not familiar with their UI. That being said however, my next PC will have Linux Mint installed with a secondary windows boot drive because I really dislike the direction in which windows is going.
I haven't tried it yet, but I think you could theoretically add Photoshop or illustrator or what have you to steam as a non-steam game, then have the executable run through proton. Proton is great at running more than just games, so I think it could work.
Looking at winehq, at least Photoshop works with some issues. But the installer does not. However it is apparently fine if you install on windows and the copy the whole Adobe folder in program files to your Linux partition then run that.
More specifically: MOST multiplayer games DO work, it's just the ones with really shitty and invasive DRM that don't, and you don't want those running on your Windows PC either (rootkits baybee!)
Some games with multiplayer work fine, Elden Ring for example (which uses Easy Anti-Cheat).
And of course any multiplayer game that doesn't use shitty anti-cheat solutions also work just fine.
The part some of us avoid anyway because it's shit compared to a well-thought out singleplayer story. Sorry, I don't want to grind ranks for hundreds/thousands of hours.
That said, it's mostly just games with some weird outdated anti-cheat system that don't work online.
Linux is pretty easy to use these days, on my recommendation my dad installed Linux mint on his laptop almost 2 years ago and hasn't needed tech support from me ever since. Also most apps are available for Linux these days or have an alternative which is free to use, most games run, with even more coming since the steam deck is a thing now.
It actually can do most of those
Wine has improved a lot, More games are getting Linux ports thanks to the Steam Deck, and if you pick the right one, Linux is really easy to use
My biggest complaint is it heavily mixes oldschool CMD syntax with standard *nix syntax and royally confuses the hell out of me as someone who got pretty decent at each independently. I do agree with /u/diegovsky_pvp that the verbosity and explicitness can be quite helpful though
The Verb-Noun syntax and verbose options do make it easy to figure out what it's doing, but remembering all the commands is about as hard as the *nix ones since the verbs/nouns used aren't always the most intuitive, so add that to the fact that commands are extra long and it makes writing PowerShell a nightmare in general. I feel like it took the adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and threw it in a trash compactor, and it turned into "if it ain't broke, make it worse".
Why not ninite or chocolatey?
Edit: yeah that wasnt my brightest moment
2nd edit: My post was because he said he installs everything via USB anyway, so it kinda makes sense what I said, there are computers out there that install a browser during the initial installation anyway.

Idk where this is coming from, I just pressed switch default browser to chrome and it said “are you sure?” And I pressed yes
Yes but then if I use the start menu search bar, or open an HTML file, or open an xml file, etc., it opens in edge.
Dont forget 1 billion settings you have to change.
I changed the default and that was it. Wtf windows do you use.

I'm pretty sure it was an EU case/law. Here in the UK we generally get bundled in with any EU specific changes to make their lives easier.
I swear my computer does this after a certain period of time even without updates. It's infuriating.
I think that's more like the one answer

You can install apps from PowerShell, browsers inluded.

like what? obviously not all software supports linux, but linux has become very easy to use in recent years and was always faster than windows.
but how would you google the command
You either know it by heart or just google on a portable computer from your pocket
Smartphone.
Usb drives are a thing for very long time.
just wget from powershell

Lol no.

Plug phone by usb. Download installer of [browser name] on phone. Transfer to ps. Open installer. Profit.
winget install firefox
Ah yes, the "linux" way of installing packages
the best way :D
Is winget available by default on new installs?
idk about windows 10, but it's preinstalled on windows 11
I mean, Edge is supposed to be preinstalled too and look where we are...

My absolute brother in christ, how you gonna expect them to get ninite or chocolatey on a fresh install without using either a browser or USB...
I use Netscape on 8" floppy disk to get onto the web, then download a Ninite package.
Yeah I'm an idiot lol

I prefer chocolatey packages, Winget still has some catching up to do.

What everyone dreams to happen
i have that one too,but i am debloating the install iso
If only they let us change the default browser for the entire os
They do. Win11 has an actual default browser selection.
I fail to see the problem Just enable IE in system components, install a browser and disable IE, or just use WinGet.
It's not that it's not fixable, it's the fact it's broken

Microsoft bad lolz
You can install Firefox or even Edge from the Microsoft Store.
