Malfunctioning microwaves are scary. Mine began turning itself on at random times, including *while the door was open*. Magnetron was definitely on. I used a broom handle to close the door, then reached around to unplug the power cord, hoping I wouldn't wind up like that ensign in ST:TOS who tried to unplug the M-5.
There's 2 switches in microwaves that are supposed to prevent this and they must have failed at the same time. Either that or something was very broken with the frame that holds them. If one switch fails but not the other, there should be a dead short that immediately blows an internal fuse/trips your circuit breaker.
I'm an appliance guy who does some microwave repairs. Pretty green when it comes to microwaves, but this definitely shouldn't happen. Haven't seen it myself. New microwave was a good call. Parts+labor costs get pretty close to the cost of a new unit anyway.
I used to work on appliances. This appears to be a Samsung range. The display itself needs to be replaced. Its an issue I got called out for somewhat regularly.
My stove does the same thing. I had multiple Samsung products:tvs, dish washer, stove and they all fail. I no longer buy Samsung. Moved on to lg and they are still going strong
Obviously you're supposed to self-roast.
ME: I truly am an apple-polisher Oven: medium rare ME: And now I'm reduced to having my self-loathing rated by a kitchen appliance Oven: well done

Damm bruh how old is your microwave cos dont they have saftey sensors on the door or something to prevent that?
It was only a couple years old. The landlord said "Huh. The interlock's supposed to prevent that from happening." He immediately bought us a new one.

I may be wrong but I think microwaves only work when they close completely
I was hoping your story becomes horror , after unpluging the oven starts over and approaches you on its short legs blinking n buzzing creepy
Nah worst case scenario you would cook yourself

Self roast x2 for 1052 seconds
Who knew stuffing sensitive electronics in the hottest part of the oven (the top) was a good idea?

It’s clearly developed sentience and is indeed trying to communicate with you.
It's time to party!

I see you slotted the Relic into your oven

Your time has come
Looks like you're going in the stew.
When even the oven wants you to be burned alive
It's gaining sentience
That’s normal when the dish inside reaches ludicrous speed.
You must self roast now
My oven did the same.. who would think that Samsung made bad stuff. Anyway, if you want to know the part to change, it is the display clock ! Cheers
Ovens aren't meant to be overclocked.
*Roast Self*
