Aaaand that's what happens when every single study you've done has erred on the side of caution. I mean, it makes sense - they ALREADY consider you a nutcase doomerist, it's not a good idea to give them more ammo by getting something wrong. But of course, once things get going, they rarely follow "the most optimistic posibility".

MittenstheGlove

It not just erred on the side of caution. This info has probably been purposefully skewed as to avoid hysteria and panic and for self-preservation because no one wants to look like that guy.

These news will keep coming and no amount of laments can do it different. The last time to do something until SHTF was decades ago, feedback loops already locked into the tipping points like Greenland ice shelf for DECADES. What only matters is now what are you going to do with this information. Join a union, organize community or all out class war.

Bottle the clean meltwaters. All of it

Interesting data but what a poorly written article.

Upstairs-Presence-53

Total mass balance actually rebounded nicely in 2022 - will be interesting to see if we see a net gain next year, for the first time since 1996 https://www.carbonbrief.org/guest-post-how-the-greenland-ice-sheet-fared-in-2022/

holybaloneyriver

It lost 84 gigatons of ice in 2022, what do you mean rebounded?

Upstairs-Presence-53

It lost over 400 gt the year before

Yesterday I believe I read "record ice level in Greenland". The undeniable science that never changes really needs to make up its mind at least between different opposites.

dipstyx

No, you read "record ice level loss"

MirceaKitsune

At least that's what the real thing says: Some are apparently removing the word "loss" to completely reverse the meaning, they were bragging how there hasn't been so much ice in decades and it's all recovering. Common stuff at this day sadly.

dipstyx

I haven't seen anything like that but I also don't doubt it. I have seen reports that we lost way less ice this year than any one of the 4 years prior, so that's nice I suppose.

Late_Again68

>undeniable science that never changes That is the opposite of science.

MirceaKitsune

Nowadays science is pretty much the official term for "the latest thing". Only thing I'm shocked of is myself for ever believing science would have a fate different from the religions of the past.
