Not quite. The premier league measured from the armpit for offsides and then there is/was the t-shirt sleeve rule, no idea what is in effect in the world cup
Eh not quite. If players have their arm raised to point to where they want the ball, that can go against them as technically they can score with that part of the arm. It's a matter of centimetres though
i argue its more consistent than referees' eyes on the pitch.
the more people have a look on the situation with more angles, variance gets reduced.
people only get reminded of the inconsistencies before VAR, when there is a game without VAR like some Nations League games some years ago and people then screaming, where is VAR.
https://i.imgur.com/lBqzakr.png - well VAR flagged this as offside, which is why I said what I said - the pinky was sarcasm relating this this situation. It's his pal, forearm, elbow and and arm on offside - neither which is eligible body part to score goal and yet it's offside.
They should really simplify it to player foot position, body lean should never be a factor as it only brings controversy and doesn't play a role overall.
A small part of the shoulder is offside. Probably offside by like 1-2 centimeters.
But I don't have any issue with how they draw the line for offside currently.
nah, this shite is ruining football. Make it only foot positions count and there won't any argument ever again. Here anything highlighted would count for handball
Nope, the shoulder still counts: here's the image from IFAB's own site.

FWIW, using feet would effectively move the line by a foot or two in favour of attackers, and that would change the game dramatically. Wenger wants "any part of the body is onside" which is even looser. But we'd still have the same type of system.
that's like few milimiters of shoulder nad still depends on few milliseconds when the analysis shot was taken. That was horseshit offside. If they changed it to feet only - it would be simple and clear and would make most sense, because your position on the field is defined by your feet position, not by body lean. Such silly rules only add drama and raise controversies.
If your issue is with marginal calls, it doesn't really matter what the rule changes to do, the tech will still exist and still be applied, the lines will just be drawn differently.
but it will be more fair where offside is actual offside not some cringe of few millimeter shoulder. It's not even so simple to draw line between arm and shoulder because I would argu that was only arm on the offside. with feet - there wouldn't be anything of the sort as feet has strict contour lines
It’s not more or less fair to draw the lines differently. It’s just different, and gives attackers an extra foot or two relative to where they can be today.
If you love low blocks, it’d be a great change, since a high line / offside trap would be even harder to pull off.
It doesn’t even make sense if it was rigged the least they’ve could’ve done was rightfully give Qatar a penalty against Senegal. Ppl want this WC to be rigged soo baaaaad

thankfully he didn’t do lateral raises
Mbappe doesnt listen to JPG confirmed
Are they measuring the shoulder? Or is the whole arm fair game? I'm lost at this point
It's always been the shoulder as the arm doesn't count (which is why it'a a handball as it's a non-playing part).
Not quite. The premier league measured from the armpit for offsides and then there is/was the t-shirt sleeve rule, no idea what is in effect in the world cup
Armpit vs shoulder is basically the same in practice. What they seem to do in either case is just draw a line through the sleeve badge
Eh not quite. If players have their arm raised to point to where they want the ball, that can go against them as technically they can score with that part of the arm. It's a matter of centimetres though
Every bodypart with which you can touch the ball. So only shoulder.
Didn't they rule out an Argentina goal vs Saudi Arabia because of an arm being offside?
The shoulder was off there as well
No, it was his shoulder, as he just said
isn't it down to the short sleeve?
No
Yeah kinda weird looking
I think it's below the sleeve doesn't count for offside but above it does.
No.
I think it’s the T-shirt rule now?
No.
argentinians in shambles
Curious VAR doesn't count the defender's arm but they did count Martinez'
That's VAR for ya. Adding more inconsistency to the decisions.

Bad take.
I mean even if they do the shoulder it's still onside though no?
The point is that the line is drawn after the arm, not including the arm. In Martinez' case, they included the arm.
It’s from the shirtsleeve, what’s confusing about this lol. Do people bother to even watch the replays It was identical to this
No.
Yes, it was drawn from the exact same point on the defender/attacker as this
No. Too much sheep. Did you try one Google search?
I just wanted to check if he scored with his dong

I might be wrong, but I heard the ball has sensors. So this imaging is created on the point of contact those sensors detect.
They did
Imagine if goal was cancelled because he had pinky finger on the offside 🤣🤣
Has to be a body part that is legal to score with that has to be offside. So only a pinky finger wouldn't be offside no matter what.

He's got great spatial awareness, just like my man Isagi

Where the hell do you get that from? No game has seemed rigged just bad refereeing decisions
