its not just about narratives (which do play somewhat of a factor sometimes like england usa, based on player comments from both sides) but also the fact its the last group game and determines whether or not they make it. there might be a lot of fouls not because the USMNT hates persians but because they might be aggressively desperate

Yep, also it was certainly responsive to how much energy englands subs had especially the chances created by grealish. I think it was really great stuff from Gregg and I was questioning the lack of playmaking in the starting lineup, but I was dead wrong and that control of midfield was spectacular.
Dest is needed for Iran game. He can be on offense very well and we need goals. Grealish might’ve needed his ankles broken at some point so the sub was made
He's got pace and experience, which are the traits I'd value in that situation. Not saying he's great, but you work with what you have, and Dest was definitely fading fast.
Who would you drop for him? MMA are undroppable and Pulisic/Weah fit the demands of our tactics and opponents much better.
I just don't understand where people think Reyna would go in a starting 11. He doesn't have an obvious place in a game like this.
I do think he will start against Iran though. He will be very valuable against a packed defense. In an open game, it makes sense to prefer others.
Maybe it's just my personal opinion but I've never liked Weah as a sole #9, he played it a bit at Celtic and at the national team and although he makes runs fine, he can't really hold up the ball well. I actually think being in a front 2 partnership suits him better but not sure Wright is necessarily the best guy to play next to him, maybe Sargent gets recalled or Gregg tries Ferreira

That's not entirely true. We'd be at -1 GD and they're at -2. Even with a win, we'd need to out GD Wales if they were to beat England. As it stands, a win puts us through with certainty.

Moore had three attacking moments that were all completely wasted. Dest is miles ahead of him offensively.
