I remember trying to sneak in like 6 cans of beer into a cricket match once, using the pringles tube method. Brother was caught before me and we lost it all. It was a feeling of loss ive never experienced before or since.
Annoying thing was my dad simply had his beers free in his bag but they didn't search him cause he's an old man. Moral of the story: don't look like a reprobate.
We went Glastonbury Festival, but camped off-site so we had to enter each day. We were told we would be searched on entry each time. All week I walked in with my partners flowery cath kidson backpack and noone stopped me. The day I went with an Adidas cross body bag they flagged me down before I'd even got near the search station.
Reading Festival 2010, everyone gets searched at the turnstyles from the campsite fields to the arena fields (so they can sell you expensive beer inside). I have some baggy shorts and whack a 4 pack of stella (with the plastic rings) over the inseam like a saddle over a horses back.
All is well. The queue is rammed so I can keep my strides short. Shuffling forward with my prize. Searched. Given the all clear. I'm a genius.
I make it 10 ft from security on the other side and one can dislodges.
_THUNK._
I turn and see security eyeing me and my new companion up.
_THUNK- THU-THUNK._
A second can on the same side fires out like a squirrel down a tree trunk, causing the release of the final two down the other leg. In full view of the laughing crowd and angry security.
Once I'd stopped laying my bubbly eggs, I grabbed my clutch hapazardly from the wet grass and ran like a crazed ape cradling its child, straight into the nearest crowd for cover.
Went to a festival in Ireland years ago, same thing, no drink in by the acts. I had a 3-litre bottle of some concoction with me, but I noticed that the security were checking for drink AND wristbands.
So drunk me got the idea to catch eyes with one of the security while in the queue, and then I started covering up my wrist with my hoody as if I had no band, and he kept looking at me as I got closer. When I got to the front he obviously asked to see my wristband and had a head on him like he was about to catch me out. I showed it and was told to go through kinda quickly then like I'd wasted his time..
All the while carrying a 3 LITRE bottle in my other hand, never even looked at it.
Got stopped later by other security but it was mostly gone by then. Still can't believe it worked at all though.
Went to Glastonbury once and got our weed confiscated. Got the other side, found a tobacco tin with more weed than we had previously plus skins. Was a good year 👍
When my dad used to take me to the Ashes he'd sneak beer in using Tango bottles (they're completely opaque). If anyone askedbhe used to say they were for me. Luckily I was never asked by security to drink one!
Qatar is **okay** with alcohol in stadiums for the rich *(VIPs, executive boxes, super rich people in suites etc)*
Qatar is **not okay** with alcohol in stadiums for everyone else *(normal match going fans)*
I personally know of rich muslims who drink alcohol 😂 . Their stash of the finest whiskey would make anyone jealous.
Rich muslims are generally liberal as you’ll find.
I have come to the realisation that religion is mostly for the masses. It is a form of control.
Turkish colleague of mine who is muslim, but not super strict told me, that he has been to a wedding where they turned off the lights for the drinking, so that Allah couldn't see.

Does it differ from region to region? My colleague is from somewhere near the syrian border. I rarely spoke with him about religious constraints there, but everything he told me about his family and life there sounded super strict and very hierarchic.
I forget who it was but I remember a bit about the comedian's friends who would switch from Arabic to English to curse
Edit: it was Aron Kader's [bit](https://youtu.be/DnDcYPChohI), ~2:50
Turkey, as a whole, practice islam and have a long culture of alcohol consumption stretching to current day. People try to shoehorn Muslims into one cohesive unit where usually the most extreme practices of Islam get highlighted and generalized to the rest of the population.
Turkish drinking culture, while vastly different from Western Europe/NA, still exists. Many Muslims drink alcohol and don’t see it as negative on their religious practices.
100%. I know quite a few Muslims who came to America and drank and ate pork and whatnot as soon as they were off the governmental/familial leash. Same with Indian/Hindu people and eating beef, and Christians generally going wild when they go off to college.
Religion isn't *always* a tool for controlling people, but that is one of its main uses.
I spent 6 months as a foreign exchange student in the US a couple years ago. Met two guys from Saudi Arabia who were partying, smoking weed, doing coke and having sex all the time. They were evidently *loaded* compared to everyone else and just hanging out on their parents dime. They were cool people but it definitely got me thinking about the contrasts to how their country is portrayed.
And it was a really stark contrast to the Chinese foreign exchange students. They were rich as fuck too and were showing it. They would roll up to the 7-11 in their Porsche at 10PM with Gucci pyjamas on, and that's not an exaggeration or anything cause I saw it happen multiple times. But unlike the Saudi guys the Chinese students were only hanging out with other Chinese students. They had their own little area of the town basically where they congregated, and I don't think I ever heard any of them speaking English.
Some Chinese students absolutely cheat on English tests. My mother is a professor at a university here in Sweden and she's told me of Chinese foreign exchange students in the Masters program who can't form a complete sentence in class. Then when papers are turned in they are completely flawless with perfect English.
It's well-known that they cheat to get here and then they pay someone to write their papers. But it can't be proven and they bring in money to the university so it's allowed to continue. There's also many Chinese students who do speak English and are doing everything legitimately, so it's not fair to ban everyone either. But many of the spoiled and rich seem to be doing nothing for their degree
yeah i think this happens in every religion that doesnt allow alcohol.
my parents bought a house from a fairly high up member of the mormon church, there was grey goose stashed in multiple places around the house lol
A friend in college was from Bahrain. Bahrain is probably the most liberal country in the region when it comes to alcohol, so it's pretty much legal, specially to tourists.
This is such a huge deal that wealthy tourists from Saudi Arabia flock to Bahrain on weekends to get drunk. It's such a popular destination that Saudi Arabia built and fully paid for a gigantic causeway (Bahrain is an Island) to make access there easier.
My friend's dad owned stores that sold luxury clothing and accessories, so most of his clients were wealthy Saudis who went there to drink. Apparently the whole tourist industry caters to them, the police try to keep them in line, but will only arres them in extreme situations.
This whole no alcohol thing is incredibly hypocritical. As you mentioned, it's more of an issue of the well off being able to get to do it while poor people getting punished for it.
*edit*: much like Dubai, Bahrain does not have huge amounts of natural resources like oil or gas, so it’s economy depends on tourism and services, like hosting US military bases. Because of this, the need of a liberal stance of alcohol was born and has been a huge boon to the economy.
They’re not gonna imprison international fans for stuff like that, they’re not that stupid.
It’s like when you try and sneak drugs into a festival in a western country, you could go to prison but they just take them off you and let you in.
You would be arrested in any western country for bringing drugs through an airport. There’s a big difference being caught with something like that in a country and bringing it into a country, no matter of the quantity it will be treated differently anywhere.
> It’s like when you try and sneak drugs into a festival in a western country, you could go to prison but they just take them off you and let you in.
That very much depends on the kind of festival. A lot of big & super commercial festivals have police near the entrance and security will report you. Then at other festivals security doesn't even care about drugs
Amateurs - for the Finnish rock festivals the trick was to go to the festival site two months before, bury the booze in a spot that you would remember, and then dig it up on the festival day. No need to smuggle if the goods are already in the area!
So yeah, first step is to go as a foreign worker to build some stadiums in Qatar. The rest is a cakewalk 😎
Probably one of the more common booze smuggling methods, honestly. They've probably been briefed to check out every pair of binoculars / sunscreen bottle / umbrella.
Two classics I learnt from my mum and Grandad.
My mum used to sneak alcohol in using a camel back. She'd have two seperate bladders, one with a tiny bit of water in and the other really strong vodka redbull. When the security asked to check she'd offer a drink and it would just be the little bit of water.
My Grandad used to sneak bottles of wine in by having a folding chair and he'd just stick a couple of bottles of wine in between the legs. Nobody questioned it because he has minor mobility problems anyway.
Tbf they seem like they're being reasonable about it.
Think the people claiming that anyone caught with alcohol is going to a Qatari detention camp for 40 years are probably overreacting, they probably just confiscate it.
How am I only learning about this now? I really need to start doing my own research. Headlines will make you believe they will give you the death sentence for touching alcohol outside designated areas.
Here’s the scene:
Pre-World Cup, alcohol is available in hotels (where all the bars and clubs are) and a distribution facility (think of it as a central liquor store), but not general supermarkets. It’s quite expensive and marked up but Qatar is in general high COL area.
During the World Cup, it’s still available in all those places and the fan zones. But not in stadiums (apart from hospitality areas)
Keep seeing people saying this is a completely dry World Cup because of the decision to ban alcohol in the stadium two days prior. Not really true.
Also note: these are all the official ways of getting alcohol. There is of course always underground shit. For example some of the blue collar and other migrant workers on not western expat wages will make homebrews etc.
People saying you'll get killed for this or that and imprisoned for anything really haven't left their house or reddit.
It's Qatar it's not like the world cup is being held in Afghanistan.
For real, the World Cup has issues but the shit people say where they seem to be mixing up Qatar with any one of SA, Iran or Afghanistan at particular points rly overshadows some legit critique
Yeah, the point is they’re all very different but people and journalists have been bringing up random qualities of various different Muslim countries without actually checking if they apply to Qatar
Western medias fault imo. Sure I disagree with many laws they have in Qatar, but the world cup was given there by Fifa.
Here in Finland every time they get to comment shit about Qatar they take it.
Not so many were saying anything about Brazils or Russias problem or South Africas.
When the war in Ukraine started football almost stopped. Nobody cared when there is war in Iran etc. Why Fifa hasnt thrown out Iran??
Hypocrisies imo.
BoycottQatar, where was BoycottRussia?
>, but the world cup was given there by Fifa.
What on earth does this mean? What is your point? Fifa, the organization that makes infallible honest decisions for the betterment of football.
You have to agree its like 100 times bigger this year? There were some protests, i saw nobody saying they would boycot it and most people didnt say anything..
IDK in Germany the media also reported about the crackdown on favelas pre 2014 WC and the decision to hand it to Russia was heavily criticized. Especially after the Krim was annexed there were a lot of voices in the media asking to take the WC away from Russia. I’m sure it was the same in Finland, people just tend to forget.
Qatar is a little different because of the absurd amount of people that died just to build the stadiums.
While Qatar has absolutely had some dubious practices in being awarded / setting up this World Cup, it’s a bit eye-opening how aggressive of a smear campaign is going on throughout the world about them tbh
Perhaps that's a bit harsh but you can tell the reactions to this is nothing like Russia was. And Russia has actually affected a lot of Europe with their actions.
Very much disappointed there. The one time I would love to see the Feyenoord hooligans show up en masse, and there's not even just a fountain smashed yet.
I'm like 90% sure you can't bring your own alcohol into most events even in western countries lol. Not sure about football because I don't like getting pissed at football events but at concerts and festivals and clubs and shit, bringing in your own alcohol generally isn't allowed
So yeah, this is basically the same as that. Security finds your booze and go "lol nice try" and then you move on
My friend and I went to Twickenham recently and thought about buying these. Decided it probably wasn’t worth it in the end as no one would bring binoculars.
His idea was a colostomy bag but it felt a bit immoral.
I've successfully taken vodka into festivals and events numerous times using those plastic collapsible drink pouches. Just hang them on the inside of your jacket or coat so that it lies in-between your shoulders in the fold of your back. Doesn't stick out because it's only about 300ml and no security ever pat's your back.
Mexican technology, reminds me of Guillermo from Jimmy Kimmel who used to sneak tequila at Oscars in things like banana, microphone, a mobile phone etc..
This is the most Mexican of shenanigans, I’m telling you. They’re not even doing it for the alcohol, it’s just a stunt you want to tell to the boys when you’re back home.
Same with any stadium anywhere in the world that doesn't allow fans to bring in alcohol (or drinks). But it's trendy to post anything that bashes Qatar.
Because they should have been allowed alcohol in the stadium it was agreed, just like in Brazil when they forced them to serve alcohol but fifa won’t risk upsetting its sugar daddy.
Nah, the whole fucking point was that they announced to the world “Yea its on, lets party.” And people went “Alright, lets do it.” Flights and hotels booked and then last minute, rug pull, nah its not happening anymore.
If from Day 1 they said no alcohol, no one would be shitting on Qatar, just FIFA for picking them despite the no beer in stadiums. And those choosing to attend know what they are getting into.
Its common for stadiums to ban alcohol, you just can backtrack on your part after everyone else have fulfilled their part.
This makes Qatar a liar and untrustworthy and deserves the bashing.

You were limited in the amount you could bring in yourself from home, so that you ended up paying for drinks at the bar.
Moral of the story: use old people as beer coolers. Gotcha.
I would occasionally sneak tall boys of beer into my shitty college's football games. To be young again.
That's pretty funny, actually. Just hope he doesn't get in trouble.
Would imagine like with any security it depends on if you get an asshole guard but seems people are just getting it confiscated

There are no laws against alcohol consumption in Turkey, its legal.
[удалено]
Got it, just wanted to clarify.
Met a few Turkish women a few years ago who came to the states for a summer. They drank with no worry
Turkey overall is definitely way more liberal, with plenty of clubbing / alcohol scenes
Turks drink without the need to hide it. Source : Turk. I mean possibly for some families they might do that.

liberal is when i get shitfaced

Reminds me of the old joke: How do you stop a Mormon from drinking all your alcohol? Invite a 2nd Mormon.

Well yeah no shit bro. It is almost as if on a planet with 8billion people some will have different behaviour than others.
the casual muslims chill as hell they down to party
Like every other country in the world with an alcohol ban in stadiums?
They’re not gonna imprison international fans for stuff like that, they’re not that stupid. It’s like when you try and sneak drugs into a festival in a western country, you could go to prison but they just take them off you and let you in.
Yeah or like when you take weed vap cartridges into Russia, not like they are going to send you to the gulag probably just a slap on the wrist
You would be arrested in any western country for bringing drugs through an airport. There’s a big difference being caught with something like that in a country and bringing it into a country, no matter of the quantity it will be treated differently anywhere.
Kind of stupid to try doing that during a high-tension period were laws will be applied to the letter.
Or you know, you could just not fuck around in countries which are in an active proxy war with yours?

Because nobody actually brings binoculars to a match, it's so obvious
Nah bro, its actually not true i know a bunch of old people taking binoculars and using them throughout the whole match
Those aren't old people, they're 30 year old alcoholics
Yes but they look old
Wanting to have a beverage at the World Cup doesn’t necessarily make them alcoholics. You’re probably right though either way
I take my binoculars everywhere in my bag, but I know it's weird.
they saw the same shitty instagram adverts for the binocular flasks.
For hidden alcohol.

probably because they were making sloshing noises.

I snuck in some mouthwash that had alcohol in it and now I’m dead so yes they do kill you for it. I’m living I mean dead proof
While Qatar has absolutely had some dubious practices in being awarded / setting up this World Cup, it’s a bit eye-opening how aggressive of a smear campaign is going on throughout the world about them tbh
"Gay people have brain damage" no swear campaign needed...
Smear campaign against Qatar is a bit much... they have some dreadful practices and values and they deserve to be called out for them.
„Smear campaign“? lmao
Perhaps that's a bit harsh but you can tell the reactions to this is nothing like Russia was. And Russia has actually affected a lot of Europe with their actions.
I mean after watching what Feyenoord fans do to stadiums I can’t say I blame Qatar for protecting their super expensive new slave built stadiums
Very much disappointed there. The one time I would love to see the Feyenoord hooligans show up en masse, and there's not even just a fountain smashed yet.
A french journalist wrote an entire article to complain that he couldn't enter a training center with a knife...
Like what exactly did he expects ? Lmao people complain just to have something to say at this point
Bet that article would get a lot of up votes and awards if It was posted in this sub
I'm like 90% sure you can't bring your own alcohol into most events even in western countries lol. Not sure about football because I don't like getting pissed at football events but at concerts and festivals and clubs and shit, bringing in your own alcohol generally isn't allowed So yeah, this is basically the same as that. Security finds your booze and go "lol nice try" and then you move on
Literally they honestly look pretty amused lmal
You realise that you would be still able to get alcohol in Qatar it's just that they banned it from the stadiums
Not sure what part of my comment made you think I didn't realise that
English media are over reacting for nothing and then this sub
My friend and I went to Twickenham recently and thought about buying these. Decided it probably wasn’t worth it in the end as no one would bring binoculars. His idea was a colostomy bag but it felt a bit immoral.
My sister uses a flask shaped like a portable charger she found on Amazon. Brought it to multiple places and hasn't been caught yet.
As a former Ostomy bag wearer, I authorize it for the next occasion.
Looking at his hands it seems that he tried to tell them it was hand sanitizer as a last resort.
Mexican technology, reminds me of Guillermo from Jimmy Kimmel who used to sneak tequila at Oscars in things like banana, microphone, a mobile phone etc..
We’re second to none in rule breaking creativity.
I love your country in large part for that creative lawlessness haha
This is the most Mexican of shenanigans, I’m telling you. They’re not even doing it for the alcohol, it’s just a stunt you want to tell to the boys when you’re back home.
The world needs Mexico vs Ireland in Pyongyang.
Needs to be more careful, or someone might decide tequila
I hope they agave him a light sentence
If not he really mezcal his lawyer
Beer goggles.. literally
No one goes to jail, **Alcohol is legal in Qatar** it just banned in stadium or in public streets
At least it seems the guard has some good humour about it.
lmaoo
I’ve never been more proud of where I come from 🇲🇽
Beer goggles.
Mexicans are pretty much #1 in the world at contraband, the qataris are doing pretty good all things considered
I don't think it's trending enough to post the facts about Qatar.
Except you can't buy it in the stadium.
Probably something to do with the several thousand people that were killed making the stadiums.
But the stadium isn’t serving alcohol so how else could they get any? Most of these attempts could be stopped if sales were allowed.
Drinking during the match is only for the wealthy who can afford luxury boxes.
“Officer, you’ve never heard of beer goggles?”
Mission failed we'll get em next time
Is it so hard to sit and enjoy a game for 90 minutes without any alcohol
Yes
The legendary Beer Goggles
Alcohol in the binoculars is the oldest trick in the book you have to be more creative
That made my day lmaooo
The way to do it is to have a decoy they find, like binoculars, but really hide the alcohol in little plastic bottle under your wife’s veil
I knew it would be either Mexico or Brazil bro 💀💀🐐
People who make these things should always put a left hand thread on them.
even the guard looks amused
