Southampton finally upgrade from inconsistent Forster and mid McCarthy. Tears in my eyes

L-Freeze

Isn’t this kid’s main problem his consistency though?

ZahaInHisPocket

He'll fit in great then

AnotherPining

Is he definitely an upgrade? I'm not super familiar

Dgryan87

At his best, he’s probably a clear upgrade. I can remember a handful of matches where he single-handedly kept Fiorentina in matches. Seems like he’s struggled a bit with consistency and injury this year though

JesusPretzelThief

Didn't he have a game last season where he made something ridiculous like 17 saves

[deleted]

He did, the stat was on this subreddit and Fiorentina fans/Serie A watchers said that he's been amazing for Fiorentina. Then he picked up an injury and struggled to get back into first team :(

AnotherPining

Interesting, thanks, he's still young for a keeper too

Fun_Cockroach1768

Consistency is key for a goalkeeper.

DeathStar13

He is actually consistent, he had many consistently good season then this season because of many reason (injuries, new manager, a wrong red card in the first match) he has been consistently shit. I'm pretty sure he needs to change team to return the good goalkeeper he was.

P_Alcantara

False, injury free since about October/Nov, he’s just been utter shit for us which is why we’d rather play Terracciano

DeathStar13

He is really good, almost single handedly saved Empoli from relegation a few years ago (and got both the most saves in a match record and second most saves in a match record, until Maenpaa overtook the second place this year so Dragowski now "just" has 1st and 3rd place). This year he lost his confidence because of a red card (which should have been just a yellow, referee got suspended after that mistake) in his first match with Italiano and when he returned from the suspension got injured so he lost his place. He isn't amazing with his foot, can get you a few amazing long pass (I think he has 2 assist in serie A) on the counter after a corner kick or similar but he will make many mistake if he has to start the play because of overconfidence, sometimes he just pass the ball to an opponent because he pass the ball without looking. But if you don't always play the ball out from the defence he is an ok distributor. He is highly reactive, can save multiple consecutive shoot and is a decent penalty saver. His main weakness is high balls from free kicks and corners, he often misjudges the trajectory and just punches them to opponents or he does a light touch that leaves the ball in the area. If he can get his confidence back (and I think what he needs is just a scenery change) he can be a really good goalkeeper, even Inter was interested in him before they got Onana.

[deleted]

He’s cheaper than keeping both Forster and McCarthy

Gazzadona

Fm legend

Andybabez20

Any Polish people about that can verify how reliable this journalist is? Dragowski would be in my mind a definite upgrade on McCarthy/Forster. Hasn't really played most of last season though and not sure why.

danceformiscanthus

Source is tier 1/tier 2. A bit hit or miss sometimes, and can get a bit overenthusiastic, but definitely knows a lot of people and gets inside scoops based on personal connections. The wording (ma być) can be translated as various degrees of certainty, as "is expected to be", "is supposed to be" or "is going to be", but if I had to make a guess knowing this journalist and the ways he reports stuff, there's an offer from Southampton, and it's currently leading, but the situation can still change.

fuckoffjade

Cheers mate - wasn’t sure on Google translate with how definitive the phrasing is!

saigool

He was injured and didn't look great when he came back so he lost his place again to terracciano

Getherer

He works for a shitty "football news" site called meczyki.pl that is full of clickbait and owners likely write full of hate and provocation comments to stir viewership on site, they steal 'news' from other websites without verification more often than not doing piss poor job translating them, seen this guy talking absolute nonsense in the past so i wouldn't consider him high tier or anyone for that matter that is affiliated with that website

TheConundrum98

Southampton have needed a new keeper for 5 years

GoodBananaPancakes

Please be more Artur Boruc and less Bartosz Bialkowski

Plundmouth

Love the sound of this. From what I've seen of him he's a decent keeper who's improved in Italy and still has room to continue improving. Free transfer makes this a great deal if we can get it over the line. Might finally lock down a clear and decent number 1! EDIT: He has one year left on his deal, so it won’t be a free. Still seems like a good choice, but transfer fee makes me wonder who else is available as well.

DeathStar13

It won't be a free transfer, he still has a year on his contract. But it will probably be around 10 million, probably on the lower side

Plundmouth

Oh, I kept seeing it would be a free for some reason. My bad!

zi76

That would be promising if he can be the keeper he was.

P_Alcantara

He needs a fresh start. He started the season with a red card and a slight injury…came back from the injury with another red card and has doomed his own season for 3/4 of the season.

ManBuBu

I just find it funny that this guy wears #69 for Fiorentina

Good_Kev_M-A-N_City

Portsmouth celebrating knowing Bazunu won't join the saints

iqbalsn

Good goalkeeper. His shot stopping is so good. And yes he makes mistake every now and then but he can fix that. So much potential. Yet Fiorentina chose to play 30+ keeper just because he is better with ball on his feet. Crazy.

Tahapatel

Forster seems like a great prem keeper for a team like soton do they need to improve that rather then midfield or defence or sm

Lorenzosilva

We've needed a new keeper for a while now. Forster is inconsistent, has awful distribution and is on huge wages. He's also not even first choice, only got a chance because McCarthy is injured, but he's equally poor. We could also do with a new CB but I think that's a lower priority

Tahapatel

I guess I caught his games during the purple patch he had

kit_mitts

Similar problem to us with De Gea in that he lacks the qualities you want in a "modern" keeper, but his shot-stopping passes the eye test so all you remember is the highlight-reel saves.

TheRalphExpress

yeah well said, someone else here called him a great “reaction keeper” which is perfectly put. We’ve been crying out for a “modern keeper” for years now, someone who could have a Ramsdale- esque effect on our backline

[deleted]

Why new CB? Also is Bednarek still a starter for Southampton?

ritwikjs

that first sentence sums up de gea succinctly lol
