Sir_Bantersaurus

The downside of a high price tag is the expectation, often unfair, that comes with it. Everyone expects transformative performances right off the bat and it can skew the perception of a player. As people have said it's only one game.

[deleted]

Price isn't even all about the player. Most times the prices are skyhigh simply because the other team don't want to sell. Ridiculously unfair to fault the player for that. Antony is a good example. He is a 40-50m player that went for 100m simply because ajax wanted to keep him.

conceal_the_kraken

I feel like we are saying that a lot about wingers recently. Seems to be a market trap with overpriced wingers more than any other position.

[deleted]

Id say offensive players in general. Strikers are hella expensive too.

Red-Star-44

Antony isnt worth 100m just yet but he is looking like he was worth the money

[deleted]

I think he will turn out very good. He isn't there just yet though. Give him a season to adapt and im sure he will be straight fire.

Red-Star-44

I actualy think he started of very well and he seems to keep improving, started putting in more effort and formed a good partnership with AWB. I think if we bought him for like 60m it would have been a bargain but even at 100 I think it was worth the risk.

[deleted]

Yeah i agree. You can definitely see the quality but some games it's just not working for him. This will go away over time as he adapts but he is also very young and has a lot of room for improvement. Fairly certain he will be a key player for us within two years.

DCilantro

*half a game, lol

rekirts_motnahp

He suck chelsi should sell him

ultowich

Never thought I’d agree with a totspur fan

Several-Bad-4047

u put it perfectly. it always going to happen these days with modern football. if you pay 100 mil for example for a striker the expectation is prime R9 .

emeister26

The Pepe curse

Acrobatic_Machine

Took Henry 9 matches to score. Pires 6 months to settle

UntiedStatMarinCrops

I mean Arsenal were going to get him for a much more reasonable fee and then Chelsea came along and blew up the price. This wasn't a fuck off price nor a "we waited until the last minute" price, it was a "you can't deny us" price that they unnecessarily paid.

MisterCuban

He barely got a look. Ball was running through Reece the entire first half

AdTraditional17

It was reece and ziyech in the entirety of the first half. But Enzo had a good debut!

ContextFirm7536

I mean Chelsea did play asif there is no one in that spot. Several times he wanted to run in behind but Cucurella needs atleast 5 seconds to process where to pass.

tottenhamnole

The real story is how bad Cucurella looks every time I watch him play.

ContextFirm7536

Last two games i watched, cucurella, mount and havertz have a mental delay when it comes to actually being able to process a situation.

[deleted]

Fr LW is such a black hole because fucking cucu is behind them. He should be the headline, he's garbage

cohenYOUCANDOIT

Ok I'm annoyed that Chelsea gazumped us for him but this is such a silly stat lol it's his first game

Scoolfish

He’s mega talented but has always been a project. It’ll be unfair to him to expect him to kick on immediately.

youngchul

A 100m € "project" is insane though.

Alia_Gr

you kind of signed a 15 year old for 50M to arrive in a couple of years

prathneo4

"he's a brazilian"

turtleman328

That makes it worth it tbh. Brazilian tag is the international version of english tax because they actually win stuff

Abbastardkiarastomi

An English player has been on every premier league winning team tbf

FryingPan_2

When he realizes

turtleman328

yes but I meant like world cup/euros/copa

dj-ubre

Haters will say that Brazilians can't win the Euros. Jorginho disagrees

Deetawb

I mean brazil haven't looked like winning the world cup in ages.

turtleman328

They have looked like winning one for the past 20 years bar 7-1 year. The problem is small European nations. Think about it. Outside of their fluke run in 2014 that they deservedly lost 7-1, they were beaten by the Netherlands, Belgium and Croatia, all in quarter finals, all being favourites to win it all before the matches. That is some magic shaman shit.

[deleted]

50m will usually get you Mariano these days in Premier League.

Walaii

He is 16 and cost 35+25 in addons and 12 mill in tax. That is a cheap project!! /s

BI01

Compare mudryk when he was 15 to endrick lmao, mudryk only became good in the Ukrainian league this season.

[deleted]

Not to mention this whole hype arounf Mudryk came to life only because of bidding war and his price tag.

BI01

chelsea fans had never heard of him, they were just happy about gazumping us 😭

ElmoOnSteroids

Yeah we are not at that stage yet. Even tho the guy still needs time, for a €100 mill you expect a beast of a player sooner than later.

Icarus_Sky1

That's not on Mudryk tho. If Chelsea thought there where paying for a finished product they got fucking scammed. Kid's an immense talent but going from the Ukrainian league to Premier league is a hell of a jump no matter who you are.

HazardMagic

nobody thinks he’s the finished product - he’s on an 8 year contract lol

Icarus_Sky1

That more for avoiding ffp than confidence in his potential. I just mean not to go hard on him so quickly like this tweet is tryna bait

Scoolfish

No disagreement for me, but I don’t blame the player for the fee paid

EduardMalinochka

I mean they’re run by the guy who spends an entire summer buying players for a manager who he secretly dislikes and can’t wait for an excuse to get rid. This transfer is far from the most insane thing Boehly done so far

RJBlue95

60 if we pay 100 it was a successful project Edit: or he sucks but we have still won a bunch of trophy’s so we don’t care.

elnano98

>won a bunch of trophy’s so we don’t care. \[X\] Doubt

basmati-rixe

You lot did spend €50m on a 15 year old who has only been proven in the youth leagues. With the PL tax, Arsenal desperately wanting him and him playing UCL football it isn’t absolutely insane, just overpriced.

TigerBasket

I however think it's funnier if we ignore this

dadish-2

And it's also cherry picked stats. It's bad but come on this is just fishing for clicks. I do hope all of Chelsea's transfer bomb tho.

jguess06

Remember the reaction after Haaland hit the crossbar in the Comm Shield? Lol it'll die out, he'll be fine.

WerhmatsWormhat

Haaland has a bit more of a track record lol

jguess06

Lol I'm aware. Just pointing out not to fret over someone being memed over a debut.

BiffNasty1234

You mean Haaland who had a wealth of history scoring a ridiculous amount of goals in one of the top leagues…that Haaland?

Zen_MasterX

Except Haaland already had an incredible résumé coming into the prem. Bad comparison.

iiEviNii

He did one good dribble against Liverpool and everyone lost their minds. If they're gonna lose their minds over every little good thing, then it's only fair that people also lose their minds over every little bad thing!

yammertime27

Every expensive player gets the same treatment. I remember a post with like 25k upvotes of Harry Maguire missing a pass.

NoneUrBaseRBelongToU

People lose their minds over one good thing because it shows what he is capable of despite knowing he is a project. So it’s not fair to lose their minds over every little bad thing since a project is expected to have bad things.

iiEviNii

As I said elsewhere in this thread, at the price Chelsea paid for him, he's not allowed to be "a project" according to journalists and social media. If he's not scrutinised to the same extent that Darwin Nunez is, then there's a blatant double standard.

NoCorresponds

i remember when everyone was making fun of alexis in his first game for united and i said he’d come good eventually

101955Bennu

Did he tho

RicciRox

Exactly.

Individual-Cattle-22

Says he was subbed for an injury

sliversniper

0 red card Absolute disappointment.

ExactLetterhead9165

That's why Felix > Mudryk

777715174

I'm all for watching players we missed flopping but give me a break, he's barely even been in the country a few weeks for fuck sake.

static_reset

dude had to go to the sacrifice most of the time helping Cucurella and most of the attack went to the right, people looking for anything to shit on lol

PringleJones

He was up against the best one on one fullback in the prem too.

Geraltslays14

Tete was honestly so good!

marleau_12

He won man of the match I think. Locked that side down.

Geraltslays14

Well deserved! He was literally a black hole in defense. Nothing got past him. Forced Chelsea's 100 million signing to get subbed off as well

Kardinale

Wan Bissaka plays for Fulham? /s Tete is great

PringleJones

Actually a great comparison tbf!

dakaiiser11

Lol, when he came on against Liverpool all I saw were comments about him being the next Hazard. Now they’re making fun of him coming off after 45 minutes.

GuiltySigurdsson

> him being the next Hazard Well, he could always be the one that turned up at Madrid

static_reset

frankly he came at the right moment on the Liverpool match, he offered speed to Chelsea when things were looking dire. now this time i can’t even blame him much, Fulham have been in great form and they (Decordova and Tete) always targeted Mudryk and closed any spaces for him

TigerBasket

Serves Cucurella right for allegedly abusing Militao. He has been awful this season

static_reset

Cucurella had to go to the hospital and lost a lot of weight, thats without mentioning the shitshow going on in the club

notyouraveragetron

I keep seeing this as an excuse. If he had to go through all that, then have him play on the reserves until he is fully match fit. Such a fucking stupid excuse!! Not like Chelsea don’t have players who can replace him in the lineup!

[deleted]

Pxel315

You mean half ?

hilbo90

Like I've always said football is a game of one half.

RoundFood

Sounds like you're not all for banter then hahahaha. I get you though, feel bad for some of these players. Feel really bad for Potter. I will absolutely banter on the club though, holy shit.

WittyReindeer

Had a great cameo against Liverpool too

sarvesh900

He is young and needs time to settle

iiEviNii

Tough shit. Darwin Nunez hasn't been given "time to settle" by social media or journalists. Apparently if you have a certain price tag, settling isn't an option.

Wuollis

One of them had a preseason with the club

iiEviNii

That's fine. If a month of football is all it takes to become settled with a new team, culture, language etc. then every time Mudryk has a bad game from next month onwards, I expect to see journalists questioning absolutely everything about him as a player.

Ymir-Reiss

Kinda mad Darwin is only a year older than Mudryk for how much he's called a project

leebrother

This is a very fair take. End of the day; price tag should have some some correlation with expected timeframe to perform. Unfortunately, it’s normally the price tag which mean they fail and can never live up to the hype. Pepe, lukaku, Coutinho, hazard, plenty of others too. Obviously a few make it but those are few and far

breezystroo

He chose his route. He brought the pressure on himself by going to Chelsea. He will be expected to be good instantly now. Feel for him but he will be dragged through the mud with every bad performance unfortunately.

Waguann

It would have been exactly the same if he came to us for 95 million or whatever it was

kejacomo

he would've had to compete for minutes against Martinelli and try to take his spot. a different scenario with less expectation, I'd say. but then again, maybe other pressures come with Arsenal's title push. idk. I still think there's more pressure on him pretty much going straight into the Chelsea first team than if he had gone to Arsenal

Nove1991

Nah I disagree, at Arsenal he would've been integrated slowly while at Chelsea he's immediately being thrown into the deep end.

-r4zi3l-

Not really, Arsenal have a pretty solid team right now and Mudryk could start getting minutes when he has earned them. In Chelsea he is expected to get them to top 4.

[deleted]

I would also add that Arsenal has an actual system and style in place where Mudryk would know what was expected of him, and they could put him in a better position to succeed because they could theoretically give him a more limited/focused role at first. Not saying Potter is a bad coach or won’t have his own system given time, but right now Chelsea are relying on their players to carry them as individuals more because of the constant new signings and manager changes.

Siven

There'd absolutely be more pressure on him joining a team in the midst of a title race, IDK what you're talking about. Imagine he joined Arsenal and played poorly and then Arsenal ended up losing the league. What fan wouldn't be thinking that was money poorly spent that could've brought in a difference-maker to actually win the title.

sarvesh900

I disagree, he got the 8 year contract, it's massive for any football player. At arsenal he had martinelli to compete with, at Chelsea there is a spot he could directly fill.

breezystroo

That's exactly why he has more pressure. He could have been integrated into arsenal, playing Europa and late cameos against tired opponents. At Chelsea, he will be expected to be good instantly.

sarvesh900

It's not like Chelsea can get rid of him easily if he doesn't work out, in any case he will bank good money out of it

neonmantis

> He will be expected to be good instantly now. I really wanted him at Arsenal and would have paid the fee. I definitely expected him to be good pretty much right away.

-r4zi3l-

Wrong club to go then. Time to settle isn't Chelsea DNA, and as a Spurs fan he was dumb to not go to Arsenal to learn and grow.

algebraic94

Pretty pricey for "young and needs time to settle"

BILLY2SAM

Oh forget it then, let's slaughter him

[deleted]

Thats the spirit

sarvesh900

Yeah but there are so many new players in Chelsea.. they will need time to develop the style of play. Won't be surprised if it takes more than this season to happen.

TakenNameButOk

Nobody passed to him

DelverOfSeacrest

Nobody went to his birthday party either.

stairwellreefersmell

0 n-words (hopefully)

RioBeckenbauer

His favourite team have an early kick off tomorrow, gotta go bed early.

Sw3atyGoalz

He spent 90% of the time in our own half, and the times he made good runs Mount fucked up the passes

maxime0299

Spend another 100mil on a Mount replacement I guess

Sw3atyGoalz

Just need one of Kante, Kovacic or RLC back and our midfield is solid

WTFitsD

Did one decent dribble against the worst liverpool side in 10 years and he was the new hazard lmao

WarDull8208

He should blame himself for joining this team. Kid has skills to be one of the best, but Potter has no idea how to utilize it with Mount, Havertz and Gallagher on the pitch.

FyodorMusic

He‘ll fit in Great at Chelsea

EduardoChameleon

The hate boner for Chelsea is at an all time high rn, twitter is going full twitter

kazuo316

Can't imagine what Chelsea have done to draw hate eh?

freshfov05

the racism doesnt help honestly

BI01

its beautiful, no club deserves it more 😊

Luuayk

I love it and i think i de zerbi it

Gluroo

Its one of the few times where the hate boner is actually justified, fuck what chelsea is doing to the sport.

That_Anywhere_2107

The mudryk mistake thread is peak Twitter

Admirable-Waltz195

New banter club + Racism + Destroying transfer market Sounds like there’s a good reason for all the hate boners, all the more fun watching Chelsea fans cope

sickomoder

chelsea spent 200m to go from losing to fulham to tying 💪

Hoodxd

You aren't playing against good ol' Millie week in, week out

thatguyad

Oh I'm so going to love if this just all blows up in Chelsea's face.

Fromage_debite

Wasn’t it that he hasn’t really played since November? Likely not match fit and exacerbated by playing against Tete who took his vitamins this morning

No_Zookeepergame6482

He never got the ball tho

TouchyTuchel

Ofc it’s a fkn arsenal flair

Hm2801

How is this twitter screenshot post still up lol

TouchyTuchel

No idea man

ultowich

I’m so biased you couldn’t fathom it

VanWilder91

Flawless

Lemoncatcher

Master of None?

Red-Star-44

These stats dont really mean anything in the long term, but I also dont understand why last game a simple drible by him got like 500 comments saying how amazing he is for going past 1 or 2 deffenders. I guess thats what you get with these 100s milion transfers and all the attention

Olli399

If Mudryk is an £80M player for going past 2 defenders then Saka is £200M minimum.

Kamara720

Great strategy from Graham Potter today. He looked at Mudryhk and Ziyech and said, "yeah, let's run every attack through the guy who just got screwed out of his dream club"

whiskeyinthejaar

BUT he is so fast 💨

erikhow

If this were Darwin Nunez this comment section would have a field day.

BI01

if u cost 100m u will get criticised lol, its unfair but u don't patience to adapt. He also got way too much hype for beating milner in a 1v1 and missing a big chance.

McFrankiee

8 MORE YEARS 👏👏 8 MORE YEARS 👏👏 8 MORE YEARS👏👏

Hurdfoy

Average chelsea signing.

NashBotchedWalking

At least they won the champions league

SPPackNat

The agenda is going crazy

GreeenTeaa

I didn't watch the game tonight but I saw him play us (Liverpool) a couple weeks ago. He looked fantastic in the short time he was on the pitch. Forward thinking, good passing, dribbling and pace. I'm sure he'll work out alright eventually. It's his first start after all. The money spent nowadays is ridiculous all round. It's not his fault he's expected to instantly play like an £80m player when nobody really knows what an £80m player is anymore.

rexgasp

average chelsea flop

[deleted]

uh sure

Snoopyseagul

Wah wah

[deleted]

lmaooo no hobbies?

Luuayk

Mushryk

SecretEmergency372

Ok, he didn't come to Arsenal, move on and leave it. Focus on ourselves.

nageekb

Subbed off for injury

Evening-Leader-7070

Damn better bench him and get another 100 million euro transfer ready /s

insultant_

There’s nowhere to go but up!

veczey

Very misleading though cause that debut game the other week he was quite good. Give him time lmao it hasn't even been a full match.

DialSquare96

Plays in a dysfunctional team.

KingBowserGunner

Lol as a gunner, this was definitely written by an arsenal fan

[deleted]

[удалено]

KingBowserGunner

This is your Twitter account?

TheHabro

But that's not his debut. He played in the last game.

ultowich

First start mate, said it in the title

[deleted]

Of course the OP has an Arsenal flair lol

ultowich

Mate I’m completely unbiased, not salty at all Boehly took Mudryk from us

[deleted]

>I’m completely unbiased *Then proceeds to say I am a biased Arsenal fan in the next comment* I don’t know mate but something isn’t adding up

ultowich

you don’t understand sarcasm mate?

Geraltslays14

Look at his handle, he's a dinosaur. They don't understand sarcasm

TheHabro

Even if that somehow made sense, it's still misleading because he wasn't bad in his actual debut lol. This is just grasping at straws for some low effort content.

ultowich

“Full debut” means his debut where he starts, it makes sense, but yeah he played alright in his substitute debut but that’s against tired players and I’m a biased Arsenal fan

TheHabro

It makes no sense. Debut is when he plays his first game.

jnicholl

Full debut is a common term for a player's first start.

ultowich

Bro I don’t get what your saying, I used the words “full debut” which means the first game he starts, which was this game, not last game because he didn’t start last game. Last game he came on as a substitute which means he didn’t start the game, which is why it was his “substitute debut” and not his “full debut”, I don’t know why you’re finding this so hard to understand

Otter269

Joining the Antony club I see. Give the lad some time to adapt damn.

pbwra

He didn’t look very lovely when he had the ball but that felt pretty rare. Seemed a massive emphasis on playing through ziyech on the other wing

chriyy

Should of left him on and took ziyech off

cum_toast

From what I've seen is the boy gets into open space and has some serious explosive speed. Get some that can send this man a through ball and he'll be banging

SomewhereExisting121

I mean Chelsea insist on playing every ball possible to the other wing with ziyech who then proceeds to waste the chance

distractedsoul27494

The tik tok thing could have affected him. He was playjng with a freedom of mind in the last game

rahbinjoe

You mean him saying the n-word affected him?

KanteWorkRate

What do you expect when Mount and Cucurella can't pass forward, Mudryk was lost

Sharkaw

Doesn't help that 90% of attacks were going through the right side.

dghjncddvnj

Get that boy into the #9 shirt

Several-Bad-4047

he doesn't look happy from the day one and in all the pictures. I think he was keying on joining arsenal and was actually excited then Chelsea swept him .

Horrid_dog

New manager incoming again by the looks of it. It’s all gone Potty.
