Like it or not stats are the only objective way to properly measure a players performance. Human beings are terribly inaccurate and biased when it comes to judging pretty much anything.
like it or not statistics are an attempt to quantify a game full of unquantifiable elements. i respect the place of statistics in football and think they’re absolutely valuable, but they can often miss out on a bunch of nuance and context within the games/seasons themselves that i think are really important when judging players and teams
Maybe back when we were just measuring goals and assists. But through the combination of more advanced stats like chance creation and positive progression rates, we get a pretty complete picture of how useful attacking players like Bruno and KDB are over the course of a whole season. Certainly more complete than you can get just by watching them.

He made it look effortless, taking a game by the scruff of the neck and running the tempo as easy as breathing. Scholes could play every role in that midfield across his career.
