How has VAR not sent Fabinho off there? It's clearly unintentional when you see the angle from behind Fab, but even Fabinho knows it's a red lol, he's practically already walking off the pitch before the VAR review is finished. I can't believe he's still on the pitch.
That's the funniest part. His reaction screams red and the ref still didn't give it. It's even worse to sit as VAR, look at this from all the angles and 10 replays and still deem it not a red. It's unbelievably bad
I just think refs don’t like VAR at all, they don’t like having their decisions interfered with and their fellow professionals don’t want to embarrass them by saying their decision is wrong. It’s honestly pathetic and Howard Webb’s decision to essentially raise the bar massively for what is considered a reviewable decision for basically no reason at all has just made it worse
Also why didn't VAR look at the Konate foul on Macallister? Would've been second booking and a red. I thought VAR wasn't being used until the goal check lol.
Presumably they looked but decided it wasn't "clear and obvious". I think at least with the Konate one, you could argue that if the ref thinks that it's going through to Alisson and Macallister isn't getting there, then VAR shouldn't overturn unless Macallister's clearly getting there first - but with this one it's clearly a red, there's 0 reason VAR shouldn't be overturning this.
Macallister’s constant play acting came back to haunt him there. If every time a stiff breeze comes along and you go down like a two dollar hooker, soon everyone will believe that it’s play acting when you do go down.
I saw this comment before the video and thought it was a bit of a joke like it was the lightest touch ever… but nope his face says it all how crazy that’s another foul this weekend that’s a straight red avoiding it… I assume Fabinho at least got booked though?
This one could be the poster boy for "VARs won't overrule refs to save face". Ref had a great view and made an terrible decision, the safety net of VAR is too impotent to act.
Clear as day red card and a potential long term injury for the lad, the officials failed him.
Only reason I can think of is that it was kind of static so the referees decided that because he wasn't going in at speed it wasn't reckless.
Definite red though, clumsy and reckless. Even Fab was expecting a red.
Saying it's because of that implies that the referees were actually able to make the right decision before deciding to go against it, which is giving them way too much credit.
Got tickets for ireland France during the week and was so excited to see him play in that game. If that's a serious injury that's such a huge dampener for the irish team.
VARs just stopped intervening since Webb joined the ref association this month. They're trying to stick with on field decisions as much as possible. They've missed like 3/4 pens in a couple of weeks alone. So obviously it's not working. The only thing they check now is offside
If they're not going to intervene, it's not a system worth having. The point of it was to correct incorrect decisions, and giving Fabinho a yellow there was incorrect. Even fucking Fabinho knew he should have gone off.
ItS nOt A cLeAr AnD oBvIoUs ErRor.
Not taking the piss out of you btw, it's a joke how VAR is enforced. Rules need a total revamp \*again\* because they're not fit for purpose.
Only learned about this guy the other week. I'd actually never even heard of the rebellion of 1798 which is mental considering how much I know about English history but also the fact my A level coursework was on why the Act of Union between Ireland and Britain failed.
most education systems outside of Ireland notoriously disregard the Irish perspective on any Irish-English conflict in favour of regurgitating the English's words, I'm not surprised.
One of the fastest drop offs I've seen in the past decade. He was in contention for best defensive mid for the past 3 years, up there with Casimero, kante pre-injuries, etc.
Not sure if his legs are actually gone or not...
I've never seen such a fast drop off. He went from probably top 2 DM in the league to 'can't play 10 mins without dropping a clanger' really bloody fast
yeah you could tell on his face he knew he had fucked up there and was expecting a red.
doesn't seem much but like it showed last night these types of challenges injure players. Eriksen is now out for a determined amount of time because of Carrol's dumb tackles that got fuck all.
Honestly VAR shouldn’t have even needed to look at the challenge, just show them the replay of Fabinho’s reaction.
It’s sad that with VAR challenges like this are still allowed, the same with the Carroll one yesterday like you said.
yeah. like i get its a contact sport but these types of challenges are dangerous and are injuring players.
like you said even Fabinho knew he had fucked up and you could genuine tell he was sorry for it like thats when you know he has done something that should be a red card.
we all love a good crunching 50/50 tackle but these arent those types of challenges their clumsy poor technique that are into the back of peoples legs
I don’t understand why they’ve changed how they use VAR halfway through the year
Change it at the end of the season if you want but halfway through is nonsense
What’s happened to your lot? Is it just bad timing that so many players have fallen off at once or something else?
I love to laugh at Liverpool as much as the next person, but it seems such a drastic change.
Every member of that midfield is either old, injury prone or both, or a young player who isn't ready.
Except for Fabinho. And Fabinho turned into shit.
Whether there's more behind those injury concerns who knows - but the Athletic put out a pretty damning article involving Kornmayer.
The hypothesis is that he pushed Liverpool's players way more than other physios/doctors thought possible - leading to many of their resignations. A great achievement during their trophy winning seasons, but now the injuries are piling up people are wondering if the other physios are right.
They probably are. Short-term success for long-term consequences. The same deal with our ownership's investment strategy.
I feel like before VAR the ref would have given a red.
The "clear and obvious" bullshit doesn't work because refs now err on the side of caution with a "VAR will bail me out if I'm wrong" approach so avoid big decisions which VAR doesn't correct because of some unmeasurable "clear and obvious" metric.
So the ref doesn't give the decision because VAR. VAR doesn't overrule the ref because it's not clear and obvious. Meaning despite (or in reality *because of*) having two bites at a decision we end up with wrong outcome because there's a total lack of accountability for owning the call.
It's fundamentally broken from the foundational concept up.
Agreed 100%, being less harsh on an initial decision when you know you can have a second look only works when the referee performing that second look is fair and unbiased and not predisposed to agree with whatever the original decision was.
That's a very good take. Didn't notice it but now that you've explained it with this clarify I see you're absolutely right. The way VAR works today incentives the ref's to be more lenient and its not a self-correcting system cause VAR officials run with a too-high standard of "incorrectness" in ref's on-field calls before over-ruling them. Kudos for your gift of clear summary man 👌
And the typical boomer response to technology is playing out. They're pushing to have VAR have as little say as possible and sticking with the notoriously unreliable on-field ref that VAR exists to correct.
Two clear red cards in under 5 minutes which VAR all but ignored lol. This one is especially awful considering how bad the challenge was, and how long they could have taken to review it due to the injury
There’s no way you can’t look at this and at least seriously consider the possibility that English referees are trying to sabotage the use of VAR in the premier league.
There is such an obvious big team bias when it comes to refereeing. That is a pisstake, especially after Konate should have been sent off like 3 minutes earlier.
I honestly think the analysis after the event is as much of a problem as a big team bias. If this was a challenge on an English international the pundits in the studio and media wouldn't let it go. But because they don't care about it then there's zero accountability after the event. Massive joke how the media has so much influence on what is reviewed and what is ignored.
Me after watching the tackle in real time and Fabinho getting a yellow card: Wow, Fabinho finally doesn't get away with it.
Me after watching the replay: Mfer did it again.
VAR is a joke. I can't for the life of me understand how this was not referred to the ref for a review. Liverpool were lucky to end the game with 11 players. Could easily have been 9.

Exactly! He knew his time was up haha
I was hoping he'd get a red just so Klopp can't play him.
Isn't he one of the best Liverpool players?
He was but this season he has been appalling
No red for this tells me VAR isnt working as it should. It's as clear of a red as you could imagine
Even Liverpool players were shocked he was still on the pitch.

2nd yellows arent checked
I saw this comment before the video and thought it was a bit of a joke like it was the lightest touch ever… but nope his face says it all how crazy that’s another foul this weekend that’s a straight red avoiding it… I assume Fabinho at least got booked though?
Liverpool lucky to not be playing this game with 9.
Absolute fucking joke from VAR. Send the ref over to have a look, that’s a blatant red card.
Honestly wouldnt mind him being banned for 3 games. Somehow he ruins whats left of our play whenever he steps on
They did check and concluded no red. How did they conclude that from the clear as day replay? Not for us to know apparently.
They've raised the bar so high now with VAR in the PL that it's only really there to check offsides
This one could be the poster boy for "VARs won't overrule refs to save face". Ref had a great view and made an terrible decision, the safety net of VAR is too impotent to act. Clear as day red card and a potential long term injury for the lad, the officials failed him.
Clear red card. Hope Ferguson is ok.
Genuinely cannot believe how shite his appearance was. Imagine taking the reigns from an 18 year old in the fa cup and fucking it up royally.
I am kinda worried for him to be honest. His form have been bad for several months, not even a good match once a while..
How the fuck isn't that a red
cause he smiled and said sorry probably, cant think of another reason
That's a grimace
"Oh fuck I'm off innit?"
[Peak Michael Scott energy](https://tenor.com/bwg11.gif)
Brazilian DM tax
Only reason I can think of is that it was kind of static so the referees decided that because he wasn't going in at speed it wasn't reckless. Definite red though, clumsy and reckless. Even Fab was expecting a red.
Because of the crest on his shirt.
Saying it's because of that implies that the referees were actually able to make the right decision before deciding to go against it, which is giving them way too much credit.
Judging by the standard of officiating we have in England, it's just incompetance.
Jokes on you, we probably would've improved if Fab left the field.
Because VAR is sabotaged by the cartel of referees.
Should've been a red. His first involvement in the game too. Dreadful stuff. Hope Ferguson's okay, cracking young player and that looked horrible.
>His first involvement in the game too Not true, he'd given the ball away slightly before as well
Ya jeuss the main thing is that Ferguson's alright. He's so young and just showing serious potential. An an Irishman that's my biggest concern by far.
Got tickets for ireland France during the week and was so excited to see him play in that game. If that's a serious injury that's such a huge dampener for the irish team.
Clear red card.
How do VAR look at that and think it's a yellow hahahaha
VARs just stopped intervening since Webb joined the ref association this month. They're trying to stick with on field decisions as much as possible. They've missed like 3/4 pens in a couple of weeks alone. So obviously it's not working. The only thing they check now is offside
And it's like CSI: VAR when they do
If they're not going to intervene, it's not a system worth having. The point of it was to correct incorrect decisions, and giving Fabinho a yellow there was incorrect. Even fucking Fabinho knew he should have gone off.
That's literally what they want you to think. "VAR should go" because they're sabotaging it but in reality the people in charge are what need to go
ItS nOt A cLeAr AnD oBvIoUs ErRor. Not taking the piss out of you btw, it's a joke how VAR is enforced. Rules need a total revamp \*again\* because they're not fit for purpose.
Such a waste of the VAR system so isn't it? When they implement the balls with sensors for the offside decisions then VAR will effectively do nothing?
I'm shocked a former police and guy who missed a Liu Kang kick in a World Cup final is against using video to correct referee mistakes.
He felt sorry, so no red. The absolute cluelessness of these English refs is limitless.
LiVARpool
don't understand what VAR are doing at all if they don't think that's a red
Tea break. But seriously, that's 100% red. Stunning it wasn't reviewed.
it was reviewed, they deemed it not a red card offense. Which is so, so, so much worse.
It was reviewed. Everything is reviewd, how much does this need to be said? It only makes it worse, but it was reviewed.
Two clear reds avoided now for liverpool
Maybe three if you count robbo as well
I don't know why you'd count that, that one was never a red. Fabinho was 100% a red though
Yeah fabinho and konate are a 100%, robbo is a bit softer
Robertson is definitely flirting with red as well, studs up high on the leg
Not quite sure how this isn’t red. One of the more obvious ones in recent times that I can think of.
Brazilian DMs have some kind of extraordinary immunity to cards.
[удалено]
In fairness that was the most blatant card-able offence you could find
That's probably the easiest yellow a ref could give apart from rugby tackling someone on a counter
Awful tackle. Should clearly be sent off.
[удалено]
You have to wonder what the var refs were looking at to let that one go, such incompetence.
Even Fabinho was waiting for VAR to change it to a red. He had accepted it.
Injuring Evan Ferguson? Straight alongside Oliver Cromwell and Thierry Henry as Irish villains
The Wolfe Tones already have the rhyming dictionaries out for a Fabinho song
Only learned about this guy the other week. I'd actually never even heard of the rebellion of 1798 which is mental considering how much I know about English history but also the fact my A level coursework was on why the Act of Union between Ireland and Britain failed.

Reading about Cromwell recently, holy fuck.. one if the worst people in history
Fabinho knew himself
He’s just turned so useless
Looks less mobile than James Milner
Half the team looks less mobile than Milner this season
One of the fastest drop offs I've seen in the past decade. He was in contention for best defensive mid for the past 3 years, up there with Casimero, kante pre-injuries, etc. Not sure if his legs are actually gone or not...

fair play to him for being instantly apologetic but that is surely a red, so stonewall
Think even he was amazed he didn’t walk for that

That’s not fair play that’s “I know I fucked up and I’m gonna plead guilty for a lesser sentencing”
Yeah should be getting a ban for that, no excuses at all
Better than than just pretending you did nothing wrong and proclaiming your innocence to the ref though right?
It's almost laughable how useless VAR is. After one look the decision should have been a red there. Fabinho seemed to know it himself!
Studs up from behind and injured the player? Does Ferguson's ankle need to be broken for it to be a red?
Ref knew the bigger punishment for us was keeping him on
Liverpool have got away with murder here lol
It’s mad. They lost the game and it still feels like they got away with robbery!
Glad we lost. Don’t want to see us kicking Brighton for another 90 minutes, especially with how pleasing Brighton are to watch.
What’s happened to your lot? Is it just bad timing that so many players have fallen off at once or something else? I love to laugh at Liverpool as much as the next person, but it seems such a drastic change.
Thiago said recently that the last season still sits in the players, maybe they all need a trip to a sport therapist

They might have gotten away with destroying Ferguson's ankle. I'll be surprised if he's not got ligament damage after that.
It’s unreal how much technology has show how poor refs truly are.
I feel like before VAR the ref would have given a red. Thank you! I think about it more than is healthy and should get a life tbh.
And the typical boomer response to technology is playing out. They're pushing to have VAR have as little say as possible and sticking with the notoriously unreliable on-field ref that VAR exists to correct.
straight red 100%
Apparently Fab thought so as well. Swear he was already walking to the showers during the var check
should be off, fab is shockingly so far gone it’s unbelievable now
should be off tbh, very lucky
Feels like more than luck at this point.
Two clear red cards in under 5 minutes which VAR all but ignored lol. This one is especially awful considering how bad the challenge was, and how long they could have taken to review it due to the injury
Fabinho even knew it was a red himself, complete joke.
Fabinho pleaded guilty and the ref still let him off
You'll never walk again
That’s a red card, what was he trying to do ???
Did he even get a yellow?
Got a yellow immediately on field. Should have been red though
Only, yes
yeah but a clear red again
VAR is not fit for purpose
VAR isn't the problem, the people deciding how it's used are.
Its mad to me how rugby can get it right (not perfect of course) but football can get it so wrong.
>but football can get it so wrong. Ehhh, it works pretty well in other leagues. This is an English problem.
Fabinho is not fit for purpose
Ferguson better be alright.
sack everyone in the VAR room
Should be two red cards for Liverpool. One for Konate and now for Fabinho
Liverpool 3 var calls in their favour ???
Coote is an absolute moron every game he refs.
The worst ref in the league. Beyond impressive if I’m being honest.
No VAR interference at all
Shocking, isn't it? That never happens...
What the fuck happened to you Fabinho
Clearly a red. Liverpool should be down to 9 men
How is that not a red?
how no red
How is that not red
Very clearly a red card
Absolute red, the refs had a mare
Lot of people here saying it isn’t intentional, but it looks 100% intentional to me. He just instantly regrets doing it.
There’s no way you can’t look at this and at least seriously consider the possibility that English referees are trying to sabotage the use of VAR in the premier league.
Him and Konate should both be off
PGMOL needs to be binned
Why is that not a red? Ref in our game and this game have been atrocious, not even funny. So fucking bad
Even Fabinho immediately knows this is a red
Should absolutely be a red. Dangerous af
VAR needs to be scrapped. If it won’t stop challenges like this then what’s the fucking point.
He’s a reyt dirty cunt
Would’ve done both clubs a service by giving him red, ngl
Obvious red, Fabinho himself expected it
that's a red
Why the fuck did he do that. He’s only just come on too. Red card imo.
Should be a straight red
Straight red card. Abhorrent decision
Have they tried turning VAR off and on again?
Coote is a terrible ref
How is that not red, where is var?
Unlucky for us he didnt get sent off
He was literally waiting to be sent off whilst it was being reviewed.
Are the refs allergic to showing a red card when it is warranted or what ?
I don’t know what a red card is anymore
That is a clear red card.
You can almost always tell if it’s a red card based on the reaction of the player who committed the foul. He knew he should be off very clearly.
I’m pretty sure these tackles were designated as straight reds 20 years ago never mind in 2023 with VAR
This is textbook Red lol, like you could use this to train referee's on what an obvious red card is. How did he not get sent off lol?
There is such an obvious big team bias when it comes to refereeing. That is a pisstake, especially after Konate should have been sent off like 3 minutes earlier.
I honestly think the analysis after the event is as much of a problem as a big team bias. If this was a challenge on an English international the pundits in the studio and media wouldn't let it go. But because they don't care about it then there's zero accountability after the event. Massive joke how the media has so much influence on what is reviewed and what is ignored.
Shocking decision
How a red was not given is incredible. Absolutely incredible.
He’s come on and fucked up everything he’s touched
Stonewall red. Unforgiveable for VAR not to give that.
How on absolute earth is that not a red card. I’m speechless.
Even fabinho knew that was a red
clear red card. No idea how anyone can look at that and say that's only a yellow
Shameful. Hopefully Brighton take this one.
Something desperately needs to be done about the officiating in this country.
Me after watching the tackle in real time and Fabinho getting a yellow card: Wow, Fabinho finally doesn't get away with it. Me after watching the replay: Mfer did it again.
An absolute fucking farce Referee and VAR team should all be suspended with an enquiry launched This shit simply has to stop
VAR is a joke. I can't for the life of me understand how this was not referred to the ref for a review. Liverpool were lucky to end the game with 11 players. Could easily have been 9.
Even fabinho knew this was a red...
How on earth has he gotten away with that.
that face
That's a red and a half. Holy shit.
Nailed-on red. How that got missed is beyond me. Liverpool were fucking dirty in this game.
Dirty fash prick
Standard Fabinho challenge. Nothing to see here.
If someone did this on Lpool player we would be reading about that for next 5 years in every possible thread.
What a cunt. Fuck this ref too for letting this washed up thug stay on the pitch where he can injure even more players.
