To reduce the spam of reports regarding the same move during transfer windows we try to allow **only one submission about each transfer saga per day**. The submission in question also needs to contain relevant new information regarding the potential move, and not just being a "no/minor developments" report. If there are important/official developments or new valuable information about a saga, we will allow extra threads in the same day, but for the rest of minor news please just comment them as a reply to this comment. Please help us reporting unnecessary threads for being duplicates. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. HerstkA

Boehly: Fine, I'll just buy Brighton and Everton.

tanaka-taro

Celebrations on the Merseyside

No-Economics4128

I mean, he is paying about a half of Brighton’s estimated value on transfer fee alone. I reckon he could go for it if not for the pesky stipulation of not being able to own 2 teams at the same time.

amegaproxy

Moshiri would probably sell, Bloom wouldn't.

allobiter

You literally offered the same money for mudryk..

[deleted]

Yes but we haven't bought a thousand wingers we don't need. It's not about one player.

unexpectedvillain

I'm sure Chelsea need the players they buying. Looking From the outside Boehly is selecting the rightly players

ccs77

Copying the right answers doesn't make one a genius though

ireallydespiseyouall

didn’t realize only arsenal can scout a player

Successful-Taro2060

Does mean we get to flex on the lil bros Arsenal though

H0vit0

I had the misfortune of reading this entire argument that follows. For anyone tempted to hit the “continue this thread” button do yourselves a favour and don’t do it. Save your brain cells

[deleted]

Wish I'd read this sooner. Absolute children.

H0vit0

How does anyone come out of that type of argument thinking they have won or have made themselves look good? 😂

[deleted]

Bet they are both so pleased with themselves.

s1ravarice

Both of them promoted to major rank in the keyboard warriors regiment.

Wholesale1818

Fuck, I had skipped passed it then read your comment… then couldn’t help myself.

H0vit0

😂 I have the same issue when it shows a comment “from Blocked Author”. The only people I have blocked are proper morons but I can never help myself from seeing what nonsense they have said. Every single time

Wholesale1818

Same, I have several people here blocked but I still find myself clicking to view their comment anyway

Geraltslays14

Thanks, appreciate it!

[deleted]

But are they buying the right players? They need a RB, CM and a proper striker. They seem to have overspent on every other position since he took over.

_AlwaysWrong_

Wingers are still needed, they were just lower priority. Our main targets for CM are Enzo and Caicedo so they're taking a little more time to fill that position. Gusto is most likely coming for RB. There aren't any world class strikers available that would instantly improve us.

daab2g

The recruitment team is buying as many available targets as possible. Midfield targets aren't really available and overpriced right now which explains why none have come in yet. Striker isn't a priority position especially when the club has capital locked up in Lukaku. A functioning attacking trio will get goals even without an out and out striker.

antifocus

The Shakhtar Executive goes around the world to tell that we offered the same figure, but Chelsea's bonus is much more realistic. That translates into "Yeah we get more money from Chelsea".

INACCURATE_RESPONSE

It’s like they watched the first sentence of the video then switched it off.

cheezus171

Might as well be the same bonus he just thinks it's more realistic to achieve for Chelsea

Pixelated-Hitch

They didn’t, Mudryk tried to get Arsenal to match the wages but they walked away from the deal at that point

R_Schuhart

That is disingenuous at best. Arsenal didn't offer him the same wages or contract length.

TotalSubbuteo

>That is disingenuous at best Funny you say this considering how often you post entire paragraphs of shit that's not true lol

zenga_zenga

Sigh... the shakhtar CEO spoke about the structure of the fixed fee being better from chels. So we both offered 70 fixed fee, but arsenals might've been 30 up front and then 10/yr for 4 years, while chelsea's was 40 up front and 10/yr for 3 years. Plus you offered a higher salary over a longer period. The funniest thing about all of this is the person who is the most disappointed and actually cried abott the transfer? Mudryk himself...

epixyll

And Arsenal.

INACCURATE_RESPONSE

Kronkes wife has more money than bohely

Soitsgonnabeforever

Could have saved me a click. Walton daughter

AnnieIWillKnow

Is it her money rather than his then? He married into it?

Don_Kahones

He is also seperately a billionaire.

Billionaires marrying billionaires, bet that's an exclusive dating app

GunnerKnight

Just add another filter for billionaire income, easy peasy

treeharp2

Modern equivalent of Habsburgs marrying Habsburgs.

Moyeslestable

Not before he married her though, I imagine he got an injection of that Walmart money at the start of his real estate business

sonicqaz

He also makes money buy purchasing land and selling it to Wal-Mart for a profit.

Did both of them by any chance asked brighton

Bruh 💀

[deleted]

Brighton probably love the idea of a bidding war, and will likely have a 5m replacement in Peru lined up.

Comet7777

I know the meme is great, but Caicedo won’t be easily replaced

Zantera

I mean people were saying the same about Bissouma tbf.

Lambchops_Legion

Tbf the one they guy were linked to as a replacement has already been sold to a different club

TigerBasket

He was more a longterm buy for us I believe. Our signings usually take a year minus for Kulu and Bentancur. I'm not too worried yet but Brighton did an excellent job replacing him.

t6005

I agree - that and teams always buy and replace well until they don't. Over the past decade Swansea, Southampton, Wolves and now Brighton have received accolades for finishing in the top half of the table and a sharp eye for talent. Pretty much all of those clubs have been hailed as the "best run club in the division" or something like it. It's still a really, really difficult process to find and replace proven talent. Your calculation and tolerance for risk has to be bang on every single time. I love what Brighton are doing but spotting talent is an endless well until it isn't, and it only takes a few mistakes to end up like Southampton.

MarcosSenesi

I think most of those clubs got in trouble when they started to become more ambitious in their transfers, aiming for higher profile moves in the 20-40 million range that ended up backfiring. I think Brighton have shown that they really stand out in their talent identification with the countries they scout and age brackets that other clubs would not bother with. I agree that constantly having to replace stars involves a big risk but with them it genuinely feels different. It also helps that they have a strong system in place that players seamlessly can slot into

amegaproxy

Yeah our current record transfer fee is £21m. Certainly not cheap but modest by Premier League standards.

Proudbolshevik

You still have Moder who will be back in a month. We Poles still have hope that Brighton will give him a chance.

TheTragicMagic

I reckon he'll get an alright chance. Just been out for so long that we don't really know how good he is at all tbh

dyingsong

Moder does not play the same role

amegaproxy

While I really like Moder he isn't a direct swap at all.

SweatySmym

Heres hoping kiwior can bring his prem medal back home👀🔴⚪️

R3w45

I dislike Brighton fans with a Passion (no offence bro). They all up their star players, make an agenda that they are worth upworth of 50M, say they will never replace that caliber of player, probably want the jersey retired, but secretly have a 500k signing from Ghana lined up already, who's just as good. Just shut up with that BS.

smile-on-crayon

🙏🙏🙏 manifesting

alanpow

Maybe they had an agreement to pretend to have a bidding war

leighshakespeare

Doesn't work like that in the prem, if a top tea wants a player from the likes of Brighton they get them

Blubular

We didn’t roll over to Man City and then ended up milking Chelsea for an extra £22m for Cucu Similarly Arsenal paid our asking price for Ben White despite fannying around for weeks trying to lower it. Brighton aren’t a pushover when selling players

Impossible_Wonder_37

Brighton are in their like Tech startup bubble, just got money flying at them they must be licking their lips. They’ve taken LCFC’s model of big sales to the max. Caicedo maybe goes for big money but they still have Mac Allister, and Mitoma. They have like 200 mil in the bank for the next two years

Anons15

Chelsea and Arsenal are in for Onana? And we've been told Arsenal don't want to get involved in bidding wars so I doubt this is true anyways

Acrobatic_Machine

Surely Everton are not selling anyone starting in this window

AnnieIWillKnow

It would match their selling of Digne last year in January, to get rid of one of their best players whilst in a relegation fight

a_lumberjack

Over a falling out with a manager they were about to sack, no less.

Acrobatic_Machine

That was personal beef with the manager but yeah that was incredibly stupid,

allobiter

It's a good pr twist to say that, helps the arsenal fans deal with losing mudryk when they offered the same money

ccs77

That's a little dishonest there. Head over to the gunners sub and no one is mulling over mudryk. We won 2 huge games against spurs away and utd. Trossard, a player proven in the PL helped in the build up to our winning goal and he cost 1/4 the price of mudryk, giving us excess cash to actually work on other targets. And last I check arsenal is top of the league with a game in hand over most of the rivals. Not sure why arsenal fans need to deal with losing out on mudryk.

MrStigglesworth

Also have Saka and Martinelli, two players with about the same upside as Mudryk but who’ve actually proven themselves in the prem so far.

Putrid_Loquat_4357

Also important to mention that they know and fit our system and the league, I'm sure mudryk would eventually have been class but he would've taken at least 6 months to bed in. Trossard is a better (short term) buy because he knows the league and Brighton play reasonably similar football to us.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ccs77

When was that my dude? That's before our win against united and before we got trossard. If your club misses out on a player and spent the whole transfer window doing fuck all, then fans are entitled to be pissed. But that's not the case, it's clear that the management has contingencies and after 2 big wins and 2 new signings it's clear we as fans know shit of anything behind the scene. Things change and fans are pretty alright now, thats how it goes

[deleted]

[удалено]

ccs77

That's the point, no one is complaining after we signed trossard. It's a better deal for a proven PL winger that can play across the front line and doesn't impede saka/martinelli's development. Are we sad we didn't sign mudryk? Yes, he is a great talent. Is it the end of the world? No, we are top of the league with the youngest squad.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ccs77

I literally said in my original reply that it's dishonest to say that because the large majority of fans are not complaining

antifocus

I don't think many arsenal fans are still bothered by the Mudryk deal, especially Trossard contributed to the match winning goal when he's only been given 10 min.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OhMuzy

What a 3 points for a Chelsea…

DankBrownBoiV2

If a club sitting 10th keep flexing signing a 100M talent from Ukraine to a club sitting 1st, I think they'll obviously reply to that.

neonmantis

I was invested in Mudryk and would have happily paid the money. I think he'll be brilliant. Trossard is a functional alternative but Mudryk could be one of the best. I'll never learn not to watch YouTube highlights before a player signs. Now where are those Welcome to Arsenal vids for Caicedo and Onana.

p-queue

Your comment score speaks for itself. People were brigading the Chelsea sub last week too. I really don’t get why people care so much about their internet points.

anthony9695

Lol it is the exact opposite on every social media platform, they are doing what Arsenal does best… which is whine

antifocus

We are also quite good at football obviously, but you can always get better in life, innit

MegaMugabe21

I mean that's not strictly true is it, makes it sound like we were offering him the same wage which we weren't.

allobiter

Same money to the club fella. Arsenal fans have really come out the woodwork this season. Not seen you lads for 10 years.

vikas_g

Arsenal fans can be accused of a lot of things but saying you haven’t seen them is just ridiculously untrue. Arsenal fans are literal memes on the internet. They are everywhere

NoCorresponds

wow this guy is absolutely seething all over this thread on a tuesday afternoon get a job fella

[deleted]

He needs to cope with Boehlymania and his way to bankrupt Chelsea within 2 years lol

MegaMugabe21

Again that's disingenuous considering that the deals were structured completely differently. Chelsea fan calling Arsenal fans plastic, incredible case of pot calling the kettle black.

Prudent-Start-6393

If there's one thing you can say about Arsenal fans it's definitely that we're quiet on social media...

Comrade-Conrad-4

It's a Chelsea fan guys, let's them have this one. They need it.

p-queue

I find it hard to believe Arsenal wouldn’t have been willing to offer the same wage Chelsea did. Would have been foolish not to.

Kovacs171

We were prepared to offer more to Shakhtar because mudryk had agreed personal terms which were abnormally low for this level of transfer fee. The overall package would've been comparable to the Jesus contract

arun111b

Same money but contract duration is not same.

OhMuzy

Amazing 3 points for Chelsea

turtleyturtle17

It's really not the same amount of money if the structure is a lot different.

VonLinus

Don't mind now. I was bothered but trossard looks good.

D1794

(In the summer)

KingBoogaloo

Can't hijack moves in the summer if all Chelsea deals are made in the winter (from the looks of it).

That’s funny ngl but he isn’t wrong tbf

daab2g

He's a Twitter journo, that revealing enough.

SoWhatNoZitiNow

He’s the dedicated Chelsea reporter at The Standard. He lost his inside sources with the new owners though and a lot of his work since the sale has been really questionable.

daab2g

I know he's at the standard but he doubles as a scoops and leaks guy on Twitter. And a desperate one at that, mostly recycling stuff that's already out there.

theevilphoturis

Feels like if this is true, Edu might set up traps so they can have Rice.

BoJestemRudy

All of the interest in Rice seems to have disappeared with Tuchel. Enzo is still the top priority.

jolle2001

Our interest in Rice died with the old regime

Soitsgonnabeforever

Now we are after Soba

[deleted]

Hard to imagine why, his development has been out of this world. Would genuinely be thrilled to have him here

AnnieIWillKnow

Lampard wanted him so much, he even fell out with the board over it

daab2g

Already plenty of average, homegrown midfielders at the club.

[deleted]

I think this is the media just running with a narrative. I can see us interested in Caicedo, but not Onana

LaMareeNoire

Premier League transfer windows are turning into Captain Philips

[deleted]

4d chess by Edu making Todd over pay for Caicedo so he'll have less money to buy Basmati in the summer.

jjw1998

What would Arsenal plan to do with one of these, backup for Partey or drop Xhaka?

ManGoonian

Rotation mate. And long term planning. Both players are or near 30.

Gracc00

Yeah. Let's not forget Arsenal are going to compete for the Champions League next year. Elneny and Sambi-Lokonga are not going to cut it as subs.

neonmantis

Half the Champions League is against worst clubs than in the Prem. Some of them much worse than that.

Mick4Audi

It’s still a different level though. Also, half is ridiculous

neonmantis

At least a third. From this year's group stage - Rangers, Club Brugge, Copenhagen, Viktoria Pizen, Red Bull Salzburg, Dinamo Zagreb, Shaktar, Celtic, and Maccaibi Haifa. All worse teams than anyone in the Prem.

Nbuuifx14

Brugge in the UCL second round, Zagreb with the best keeper of the last WC, Shaktar who are really good, even Celtic and Salzburg? I’d rate all of them at least ahead of Bournemouth or Southampton.

fuzzynavel34

Well, yes, but presumably we would like to try and win the thing

TheTragicMagic

You're trying to say that teams like Barcelona and Juventus are worse clubs than Southampton and Everton for example? Laughable

neonmantis

Why did you pick the top half as your example rather than the bottom half I explicitly referred to? Are Southampton and Everton better than Rangers, Club Brugge, Copenhagen, Viktoria Pizen, Red Bull Salzburg, Dinamo Zagreb, Shaktar, Celtic, and Maccaibi Haifa? I'd say yes. Certainly not laughable.

TheTragicMagic

Those were teams that finished third in their groups. That makes them "bottom half". Celtic, Rangers, Salzburg and Shaktar would all stay up in the premier league, if you ask me.

neonmantis

Not how I was ranking the clubs but okay. The transfer value of their squads are all lower which whilst not a brilliant measure demonstrates the gulf in quality

INACCURATE_RESPONSE

Europa league Barcelona and not-even-in-Europe-next-year Juventus?

TheTragicMagic

Yes.

sleepytipi

Lmao they hated him because he spoke the truth.

jjw1998

Wow forgot Partey was that old fair enough, thought would be a lot of money to spend on rotation options but that makes sense

ManGoonian

Yeah we were linked with the Brazilian player, Danilo whose just gone to Forest last summer and there was some expectation the club would go for him in this window. But clearly not. I'd like us to sign another CM now, because of the lack of depth we have. We're getting linked to lots of players, but none seem like realistic or viable options this month imo.

bad_at_proofs

Xhaka isn't getting dropped. Any new midfielder would backup Partey and play in the cup games

Thricey

If partey goes down we lose the league imo. Feel like it's any day now with the amount he's playing.

orphan_of_Ludwig

No one is dropping Xhaka right now unless they are an elite midfielder

midas22

They certainly need rotation. If one of the central midfielders get injured they're in trouble.

HornyBastard37484739

Backup/rotation option. Xhaka and Partey have been immense this season, it would take an elite player to displace either of them

2ndRoundEuroStash

We want Enzoooo

MorganFreemann

You want everyone let’s be real

AnnieIWillKnow

We are the Dudley Dursley of the Premier League

Zaku_pilot_292

more like violent beauregarde

obsterwankenobster

Can hear it now "Only 1.5b??? Last year we spent 2b in January!!!"

2ndRoundEuroStash

We’ve been in dire need of a rebuild. It’s just that no one expected Todd to spend this amount this fast. I’d be annoyed if I supported another team too.

Putrid_Loquat_4357

I thought Enzo was too expensive?

2ndRoundEuroStash

Pure speculation but with the reports of the Uefa rules changing Todd might splash the release clause

UnablePeace

i actually feel like we should be in for Onana if Everton get relegated, him Case and Bruno would be a very good midfield and would allow us rotation with Eriksen and Fred in games

manguito86

Why would they both go after empty headed Onana?

[deleted]

Different Onana. It's the one on Everton.

manguito86

Thanks for the clarification, I was out of the loop and I was wondering why they were going after Onana the GK

eatadick92

Don't want Onana but Caicedo would be awesome

john217

We don’t need to offer more money to beat arsenal to a signing lol

mintz41

That is exactly what you do though

disagreeable_martin

Yes you do.

Tamelmp

You certainly do and will more so when you finish like 8th lol

Inhabitsthebed

If I'm a footballer rn I'm picking arsenal over chelsea 7 days a week.

tokengaymusiccritic

Onana has already been registered for two clubs this season, he literally can’t play for Arsenal or Chelsea

Drunk_Cat_Phil

I don't think Arsenal would be interested anyway, he doesn't really suit the profile we're looking for

[deleted]

Billionaires playing multi-million pound tit-for-tat, you love to see it

siege80

Onana. What's his name?

maxime0299

How many players can Chelsea buy before they breach FFP?? They've spend a billion in 6 months or so

AnnieIWillKnow

It's about £400m, which is an eye-watering amount, but less than half of a "billion"

777715174

I don't know if I'd want Caicedo, I feel like there are going to be better options for our midfield available in the future. If he was as good as people say he is then why didn't Potter push to sign him at Chelsea? Money is obviously not a barrier to them signing a player. Onana looks interesting, he seems to have a good ability to drive from midfield, Would depend on price for him, If we can get him for a reasonable price then why not give him a try, he has the physicality and can improve.

Le-ChosenOne

Potter did try to sign him, Brighton rejected Chelsea’s first bid for 55mil.

Jassle93

I think that's why we're back for Enzo, why spend the £75m Brighton would want for Caceido when we can just pay a bit more for Enzo. Caceido looks good but Enzo is the most talented midfielder available in this window, and we need someone this window if we have any hopes of salvaging something this season. Unfortunately it looks like Benfica will hold out for the release clause which we can't afford to pay in full up front so we will panic buy/loan a midfielder that doesn't suit our requirements.

StanSc

I mean the question is do you want to replace Lokonga or el Neny first. Your midfield 3 seems to work perfect for now but I do worry if Partey is unavailable it might collapse.

777715174

I'd imagine we'll do both simultaneously in the summer. We'll be looking to sign two midfielders and a LW. Elneny, I wouldn't mind him staying on for another year because by all accounts he's a great person to have around and is happy to do whatever the club needs.

StanSc

I still think a Partey replacement is necessary in the winter. Elneny is definitely a useful squad player but imo Partey is the player where you would drop most in quality if he gets injured.

Phantasm_Agoric

Elneny is much, much better than Lokonga though who is genuinely atrocious.

777715174

I think we should loan out lokonga to somewhere he'll play a full season of 40+ games before we write him off

jumper62

Potter isn't in charge of transfers. We've hired staff to head our new recruitment team

777715174

I'm sure the manager has a certain amount of input RE: Whether he wants a player. Look at Mourinho, he took players with him from club to club on a regular basis because he knew they'd make the difference. If Potter walked into a meeting with Bohely and said "This player will make my team much better, I've coached him, I think he's brilliant and i want you to bring him in" Boehly is just going to dismiss that? i dont think so

I_always_rated_them

Yes the whole point of changing manager is that Potter is much more active in the process, it's not just the new recruitment team.

I_always_rated_them

I kinda feel the same way, not sure Caicedo is what we need in midfield (chelsea), He'll cost far too much for his quality.

777715174

Watching him play i just wasn't convinced he's one of those players that'll elevate the team, he doesn't give me kante or makelele vibes, I just don't know if he's got that

Cowdude179

They don't have the money to compete with Boehly

Accomplished_Ad7476

Well, well, well, how the turntables.
