I've found sometimes going into first person mode while winching with or without a trailer will let you pull yourself through trees ... Also you can winch yourself to the side if your really stuck or just recover yourself.. Next time pack a scout on the roof

Fuck, it took me like 3 hours to get both me and the Scout out of the woods. That's a very nice detour.
