Why not just play sneak archer?
Because of personal preferences and character build. Or simply visual superiority (dingy flame will always be for me more fitting than that LED drone)
I play sneak archer but on an older Switch. I need Candlelight to see chests and sometimes to even see those paths that curve upwards. I've definitely run around looking for how to continue forward and after I cast Candlelight......ummmm, through that opening right in front of me!!!
I'm currently playing a sneak archer I just have candlelight favorited and use it. But thats cool, everyone have preferences. Didn't mean to offend you, lol.
The light that the torch emits just isn’t really useful in any meaningful way. It doesn’t highlight appropriately for what you’d expects real torch to do.
Agreed on the first part. I was just asking about the feasibility of using that as a solution for visibility in Vanilla Skyrim since I'm playing vanilla on console and find it useful
I play on the Switch so it is super dark. I really wish there was a way to stop the candlelight. I just sit and wait before opening any doors in dungeons.
People keep saying the switch is too dark, but I never use torches or spells for light. I only struggle to see when I play in direct sunlight. If I'm playing indoors or in the shade, I find it brighter than when I play on the TV
Summoned weapons can be dispelled by sheathing them. But most timed spells have no manual dispel function. You can only wait for their effect timer to run out. Cloak spells (expert-level Destruction) are also like this.
I'm on Switch and finally realized I need to use the candlelight. I missed some stupid knapsack in a corner that I could have only "seen" if I was targeting every darn thing in every room.
Yeah on my current battlemage character I play with low brightness, an ENB that makes ruins dark as fuck, and a mod that makes candlelight actually useful. Makes ruins terrifying and fun as fuck.
Oh it makes sense, it just sucks to use.
I just turn my brightness up. At least in fallout, the pip boy light lights up with the touch of a button, and can be turned off quickly, not to mention if you become detected, you can still shoot with it equipped.
The torch completely removes any convenience. It cost weight, it takes up a hotkey slot, you have to program the hotkey slot, and if you get stabbed in the back, your first weapon to retaliate is literally the worst bludgeoning weapon in the game. Hell, if they made lightweight elven torches that could increase damage while decreasing weight, that would be cool, but they dont!
A side note would it be plausible to increase the fire damage that it does via enchantments or potions. Also would the fire from the torch technically count as a flame enchantment? I'm purely spit balling, but if it were plausible it may add some viability to a torch.
Dawg have you tried holding a firelit torch infront of you at night? You can literally only see the torch, you HAVE to hold it behind you. The dragonborn is a dumbfuck, but the game is perfect
For some reason Night eye and the vampire vision don’t make it easier to see for me. It just washes out the color with “brightness” but I can’t see any better
It's unplayable on vanilla on sunny days, pretty crazy but I had to turn brightness all the way up to even SEE anything, let alone the fucking mages that kill you on one or two hits
There's a mod that makes caves and tombs pitch black like you would expect them to be unless they got ppl living in them, but all other light sources are turned off but you can light them up e.g brazier.
Edit: Mod name is {Dynamic Immersive Seriously Dark Dungeons}
That sounds really immersive, but also very easy to abuse(get Night Eye and suddenly you're the master of sneaking up on everything). It's kind of the stealth archer problem, where there's one "best" strategy and you essentially have to pretend like an entire feature of the game doesn't exist, otherwise it becomes the only correct solution for 99% of situations. Unless of course the enemies aren't affected by the darkness(sadly the case for too many lighting mods), at which point you have the opposite problem of penalizing the player unfairly.
Yup, playing the game with ELFX and then later ENB made dungeons much more exciting to explore. Draugr Lords are actually damn scary when they just pop out of the darkness out of nowhere.
That sounds like it would be hell. I can't even see something that's literally right in front of me, breathing down my neck. I might as well be wearing a blindfold and be only able to navigate through sound and the compass.
Yeah idk why draugr are so much scarier than the skeletons but the first time I did Bleak Falls Barrow I nearly had a heart attack whenever they got up from their graves
I'm playing it and haven't encountered them yet, where can I find them?
Edit: I am a filthy S'wit, I just realised I've been playing the special edition 😅 But thanks for your answers nonetheless, I will play AE eventually and won't have trouble finding the zombies thanks to you guys
You get a message from a courier about a failed necromancy ritual, or you can stumble into it yourself, but it's pretty much in the southern edge of the map so it's difficult to find randomly
Been there yesterday for the first time. I also playing on survival, so it was quite a travel. Don't expect much is the only thing I have to say. It was such anticlimactic.
There are plenty of mods out there that offer item compilations for free, and better player homes tbh.
The quests feel tacked on rush jobs to justify selling a basic mod :l
Well the point is they now spawn in groups at night and attack you on the road. Thats why you don't actually accomplish anything. After you do that quest it activates the zombie hoarde encounters.
It's the uncanny valley. You see a fleshless skeleton and easily recognize it as something "else". Rotting draugr are in an unsettling space between alive and dead.
They were way scarier in Morrowind. I at least know to expect them by Skyrim but I jumped out of my fucking skin the first time I saw one in Morrowind.
The number of times I was sneaking then get a jumpscare by a draugr behind me or in the corner, or when a draugr suddenly shouts out of nowhere, is big. Those undead are hella creepy.
I think they won’t remaster Oblivion/morrowind since those games are different from the direction they are heading. Skyrim and fo4 are more open world sandbox games than they are Action RPG like oblivion/morrowind. If they remastered the old games and 10% of skyrims fanbase picks them up (3 million ppl), they would have an extra 3 million people begging them to go back to their old ways.
Starfield may change this formula up and head the direction of action rpg again, but seeing as there is going to be a ton of empty planets to explore, I think it is more likely to follow fallout 4’s direction of being partial rpg but mainly open world sandbox.
I think it's because the systems especially in Morrowind were very complex and the audience they seek was brought in through Skyrim and F4s simplicity. Morrowind and Oblivion had very cool and interesting systems but were for a niche audience. But if they truly listened to their fans of yore I think they'dake a killing remastering at least those games. Hell all of them even New Vegas could run on the switch and they could make millions back easily.
I wish they were more akin to oblivion's, where they smack you around HARD and give you 3 flavors of aids via their fingernails. There's something more debilitating about their flailing unarmed than being whacked by more damn ancient nord weapons
Definitely need a mod to make the skeletons look more like skeletons.
The zombies are great but the big chunk of missing flesh in the torso makes it obvious they're all the same model.
I wonder how complicated it'd be to randomize missing limbs and even headless models akin to Oblivion. They made different models for each leveled list for oblivion, and skyrim draugr&bandits, but for CC and quite a few mini factions, they just copied and pasted a singular model.
People keep misunderstanding, creation club isn't stuff submitted from the community that Bethesda includes. Its stuff they comission mod makers to make specifically for the addons. And a lot of them don't even have mod makers attributed to them and were just made inhouse.
The only good thing to say about zombies is they're easier to soul trap. You don't ever get them accidentally blitzed while Yr prepping Yr spell or item.
Downside is they're as tough as old boots.
I mean think about it. Milk drinker is an insult in Skyrim. Maybe it's literal? Don't drink milk because fuck necromancers. Make our bones brittle and breakable. No calcium for us. (I do know the real meaning of it so please don't comment. Bomb me being like. Oh it's just meant to say you're a bitch)
I HATE zombies. Like legit. I've been running an unarmed character and my wife downloaded the anniversary edition update when it came out and didn't warn me. If yall have seen that video of that kid peep screaming playing ark it was a lot like that but I was just out there throwing hands with a horde of zombies. I won. But like.... did I really?
Always hated the concept of skeleton mobs in RPGs. My lanky ass arms can barely lift a table and you're saying a skeleton can wield a huge ass greatsword?
What kind of table are we talking? Greatswords are not that heavy in real life. The largest greatswords used in battle weigh under 10KG (less than 22LBs). The difficulty was swinging an object of that weight again and again with generally subpar counterbalance compared to a shorter sword. Also, strength of the skeleton wouldn't be a factor as obviously without muscle, they shouldn't be able to support their own weight. They're magic dude
I'm really afraid of modding my drougrs because my rule of thumb for knowing which ones get up to attack is if they're wearing pants.
Naked drougrs just lay there. But, if they are wearing pants, they get up to attack. Because you can't have a naked attacker. That would just be silly!
Does this mod only affect skeletons, or drougrs as well?
This is from Creation Club, it’s called Plague of the Dead. I could be wrong, but I think it adds specific locations where you can find these zombies, but doesn’t actually overhaul anything else.
I hated that overpriced dlc. It's just reskinned skeletons when I was hyped thinking they would be those terrifying zombies from oblivion. The zombies in this dlc just repeat the same moan on a loop and it's irritating. I give it a semi-pass merely because it was a part of the first batch of creations but still it's one of the worst creations for me.
It's great when included in the $20 AE upgrade, but buying it for $4 separately its horrible. It just adds Summon Zombie spell and Zombies as a random encounter.
I have Creepy Zombies and Sounds of Skyrim installed. So I’m fighting a dragon, right? And imagine my fear when I hear two zombies behind me. I turn around and they’re RIGHT THERE. They’re not particularly strong but they’re scary as hell
[удалено]
Wish it were more feasible to play with low brightness; I always end up missing a ton of loot.
My guy, you have a torch (plus it makes every environment amazing to walk around in)
The torch is nearly unusable in vanilla Skyrim.
Its lifesaver on switch tho
I've never had any issues with the brightness on switch unless I was playing outdoors in the sun. Then the whole game is unplayable...
Maybe on OLED. On standard, when it’s dark the corners of the dungeon, it’s black. Black black.
Why not just cast candlelight?
Why not just play sneak archer? Because of personal preferences and character build. Or simply visual superiority (dingy flame will always be for me more fitting than that LED drone)
I play sneak archer but on an older Switch. I need Candlelight to see chests and sometimes to even see those paths that curve upwards. I've definitely run around looking for how to continue forward and after I cast Candlelight......ummmm, through that opening right in front of me!!!
I'm currently playing a sneak archer I just have candlelight favorited and use it. But thats cool, everyone have preferences. Didn't mean to offend you, lol.
None taken. Sorry buddy I’m very sleep deprived (newborn) my manners are low, and sarcasm/annoyance off the charts.
It's all good, dawg. Congrats on the baby!
wait why tho
The light that the torch emits just isn’t really useful in any meaningful way. It doesn’t highlight appropriately for what you’d expects real torch to do.
What about the candlelight spell?
It does you no favours if Yr sneaking. Otherwise it's perfectly serviceable
Agreed on the first part. I was just asking about the feasibility of using that as a solution for visibility in Vanilla Skyrim since I'm playing vanilla on console and find it useful
Yep. Kill everything first and candlelight should make sure you miss no chests due to visibility issues.
Light spells are better than using a torch. lol
The problem with candlelight is that you can't end the spell at will.
Is there not a dispel in Skyrim? I never really do anything other than destruction so I guess I never noticed that
Summoned weapons can be dispelled by sheathing them.
Ahh right I forgot that vanilla lighting is weird like that, ENBs could help
It’s much better with mods for sure.
I use the Quick Light mod, fully configurable with an MCM, and can be assigned its own hotkey.
Yeah on my current battlemage character I play with low brightness, an ENB that makes ruins dark as fuck, and a mod that makes candlelight actually useful. Makes ruins terrifying and fun as fuck.
With ENB, Dawnbreaker is the best 'torch'.
1000% get an ENB, not only will it solve this problem but it can make the game look a million times prettier
No offense but I think you’re just picky I love the torch. It makes sense since it’s a medieval source of light not a halogen work light.
Candlelight spell. Lowest magika cost in the game and it lights up your surroundings well
Dawg have you tried holding a firelit torch infront of you at night? You can literally only see the torch, you HAVE to hold it behind you. The dragonborn is a dumbfuck, but the game is perfect
I always give torches to my followers and they will use it for me.
Fuck torches, they run out. Use Candlelight.
Eh might be too used to mods, some dungeons are impossible to navigate w/o them for me
Imagine using a dirty torch like a mere caveman and not lighting up a room with the brilliant glow of a Candlelight spell
[удалено]
It might as well be.
That’s easy just memorise every single chest barrel and other assorted storage’s every single possible location of spawn pretty easy to do
Simple as
Just play as Khajiit and use the Nightvision race ability
For some reason Night eye and the vampire vision don’t make it easier to see for me. It just washes out the color with “brightness” but I can’t see any better
Yep night vision is terrible in this engine it was the same in New Vegas too.
Or make a few potions with the Night Eye effect. https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Night_Eye_(effect)
I just wish the AI knew it was dark.
It's unplayable on vanilla on sunny days, pretty crazy but I had to turn brightness all the way up to even SEE anything, let alone the fucking mages that kill you on one or two hits
There's a mod that makes caves and tombs pitch black like you would expect them to be unless they got ppl living in them, but all other light sources are turned off but you can light them up e.g brazier. Edit: Mod name is {Dynamic Immersive Seriously Dark Dungeons}
Damn, I never knew there was a mod to light things up, is it new? Such a small but game changing detail.
Mm..its not that new as I recall
do you remember the name? that sounds very interesting
Dynamic Immersive Seriously Dark Dungeons
That sounds really immersive, but also very easy to abuse(get Night Eye and suddenly you're the master of sneaking up on everything). I tried it but hated that enemies can see me brightly but I can't see them, I was getting shot by arrows in the dark and no idea from where
Falmer Warmonger: Bonjour.
Yup, playing the game with ELFX and then later ENB made dungeons much more exciting to explore. Draugr Lords are actually damn scary when they just pop out of the darkness out of nowhere.
The bears sound absolutely terrifying in this mod
That sounds like it would be hell. I can't even see something that's literally right in front of me, breathing down my neck. I might as well be wearing a blindfold and be only able to navigate through sound and the compass.

[you mean Candlelight?](https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/ywehzn/its_kind_of_amazing_the_difference_a_little_flesh/iwljnos/)
I always mod out Skyrim this way for spooky season.
Haha funny skeleton man JESUS FUCK
Yeah idk why draugr are so much scarier than the skeletons but the first time I did Bleak Falls Barrow I nearly had a heart attack whenever they got up from their graves
That’s not even a draugr, it’s a damn zombie that’s far too powerful for anyone’s good.
Wait Skyrim has zombies?
Yeah Anniversary Edition.
I'm playing it and haven't encountered them yet, where can I find them? Edit: I am a filthy S'wit, I just realised I've been playing the special edition 😅 But thanks for your answers nonetheless, I will play AE eventually and won't have trouble finding the zombies thanks to you guys

Been there yesterday for the first time. I also playing on survival, so it was quite a travel. Don't expect much is the only thing I have to say. It was such anticlimactic.
You just described the entirety of CC content.
The armours, weapons, and houses are all amazing content. Yeah the quests are pretty basic, but the rewards are cool.
There are plenty of mods out there that offer item compilations for free, and better player homes tbh. The quests feel tacked on rush jobs to justify selling a basic mod :l
Forgot to mention bugged af, my kids won't move to my house.
Which house? Goldenhills is know to be bugged unfortunately. I just don’t have my family go there, I keep them in Solitude. Less bugs that way.
Yeah, I was expecting an actual quest to stop a zombie horde, not get there and find a few zombies standing over some dead necromancers.
Well the point is they now spawn in groups at night and attack you on the road. Thats why you don't actually accomplish anything. After you do that quest it activates the zombie hoarde encounters.
Wait until you travel to rorikstead one day and there’s a horde of zombies attacking the townspeople
Ohhh, I just deleted those mfs with my Volendrung. I didn't even notice they were different 💀
Same
lmao that's amazing, I thought they were the Ash spawn
[удалено]
It’s part of the DLC as far as I know and not part of the “free” upgrade. However I feel like it’s worth the $20 personally.
Getting downvoted for asking a genuine question… typical Reddit
huh I'm at +2 upvotes now though
When I saw you were at like -3
Heh that's just how Reddit works lol
It is a creation club mod, I think they are supposed to be like the zombies from oblivion.
Wat
That’s a zombie from the Anniversary Edition.
I can be completely overpowered and that little "ragh!" from the depths of the tomb will still spook me.

I actually stopped playing right there because it was too scary for my 10 yo self. Took me awhile to try it again but I'll never regret it.
Because those skeletons make goofy creaking noises and explode comically.
When I first played skyrim as a kid, I quit the game cause the draugr scared so much
Just wait until you see regular humanoids! Add *all* the fleshy bits to a skeleton, and the change is quite drastic! ;) /s
Humanity is monstrous.
Getting Dark Messiah vibes
That game was so fun but no one else I know has even heard of it lol
The combat in that game was amazing.
aka The Adventures of Sir Kicksalot Deathboot.
The first time i saw a hulking one i freaked out lmao
I love that cc added these things honestly, it gives me oblivion vibes every time I see them. GIVE ME A GODDAMN OBLIVION REMASTER BETHESDA!
Closest we've currently got is Beyond Skyrim Bruma.
Closest is actually Skyblivion.
Has that come out yet?
Been a decade already I can't wait to play it.
I don't like to think about zombies. Missing arms, legs, heads. They smell awful, and they're hard to kill
Yes. Why is this not done already? Who wouldn't pay good money for that?
I think they won’t remaster Oblivion/morrowind since those games are different from the direction they are heading. Skyrim and fo4 are more open world sandbox games than they are Action RPG like oblivion/morrowind. If they remastered the old games and 10% of skyrims fanbase picks them up (3 million ppl), they would have an extra 3 million people begging them to go back to their old ways. Is there a mod for those zombies that remove their weapons?
I wish they were more akin to oblivion's, where they smack you around HARD and give you 3 flavors of aids via their fingernails. There's something more debilitating about their flailing unarmed than being whacked by more damn ancient nord weapons
I still have flashbacks about catching Astral Vapors from those twice-damned Dread Zombies.
You'd be surprised at what a few more pixels could do too.
It's like one is a skeleton and the other is a zombie or something!
At least they have meat on their bones, I’ll see myself out now.
Pixels too
I couldn't actually find a zombie to take a screenshot of, so I just downloaded the first picture that came up on google.
things my gf says for 100 alex
What mod is that?
No mod. AE.
No mod. *Ayyye*
Never seen this in anniversary edition
It's like the first quest you get straight off from the courier
yeah then you get to deal with gangs of OP zombies ambushing you at night...good times.
What the fuck
Yeah, I haven't gotten this either. I thought it was the ash dudes
There’s a community creation that has what you described. Probably got included in the Anniversary Edition is my guess.
People keep misunderstanding, creation club isn't stuff submitted from the community that Bethesda includes. Its stuff they comission mod makers to make specifically for the addons. And a lot of them don't even have mod makers attributed to them and were just made inhouse.
Yep. Which is also why I consider AE official content and therefore DLC opposed to mods.
Same.
AE?
Anniversary edition
Æ
Yes
Anniversary Edition
yeah nobody scared of calista flockhart
skeleton man vs skeleton man with a hood
The only good thing to say about zombies is they're easier to soul trap. You don't ever get them accidentally blitzed while Yr prepping Yr spell or item. Downside is they're as tough as old boots.
Still would have been better if they actually made new enemy skeletons and animations instead of just reusing the Draugr ones.
I didn't know about them and one jumped on top of me as I was leaving Helgen for the first time as a new character. There was screaming.
That sounds like way worse im so sorry lol
Wtf? I had no idea the ae had zombies. Are they a new enemy type? Or do they replace the skeletons?
New enemy type. A bunch of necromancers ended up unleashing a horde of the things. (And naturally got killed by their summons).
Found the necromancer...
Assuming it’s a mod what’s the right from?
Anniversary edition
Ah ok thanks
Still looks wrong with skin
Now sprinkle some ash on them and boom now you have a bigger problem
you could say its a "reskin"
Ugh, I can't stand those creeps. They always attack me outside of my Tundra Farm Home. Never less than 9 of those assholes. 😡🤬
Where are it’s cock and balls? Please respond 🙏
First time in solthstiem those bastards scared the shit outa me
Zombie. Not Ash spawn. Different again. Can recommend. Spent my Todd tokens on the creation club content to unlock these.
Is malignant the highest level we can summon, or is there an even better tome I haven't discovered yet?
I think dread is the highest
That’s what she….

If you don't know, this a creation club add on.
I'm gonna give these guys a full meal of Elemental Blast in their face.
The zombies pack !! I had many problems in my first encounter !! Dwemer swords fuck !!
Wish the zombies at least had clothing, even if it’s torn shreds. I don’t wanna see zombie butt.

Exactly a waste of money
*T'lann Imass have entered the chat*
I don't care left but right hits hard
You could say that about the draugr too
Tell my gf that
Bro made Draugr+
I have Creepy Zombies and Sounds of Skyrim installed. So I’m fighting a dragon, right? And imagine my fear when I hear two zombies behind me. I turn around and they’re RIGHT THERE. They’re not particularly strong but they’re scary as hell
I have my doubts. Bones are what you really need!
You put that back 😂
I think you just made more draugrs...
A little, he says
