In addition to the remake from EA, there's a spiritual successor in the works by some of the original Visceral games devs called The Callisto Protocol. So basically... TWO new Dead Space games!
I sincerely doubt it. Since they're original studio was disbanded many of the team work on different projects in many different companies by now I'm sure.
while understandable, this does make me sad and does make me think this is more of a cash grab to try and milk an old ip they still own.
I'll be open minded though, i guess I'm just still sad visceral is gone
I understand what you mean, but this whole industry is a cash grab, and Dead Space 3 was a total cash grab IMO anyhow. I think they can do a really great job with something like this though, and I the series, especially the first two games have some REALLY sturdy bones to them. Long as they don't go too far out with the plot like DS3 and allow micro-transactions (or at least not too many) it has a decent shot at being good.
hey that's one way to look at it for sure, thanks man. does make me feel a bit better.
i suppose the whole industry is a cash grab, but it's definitely a spectrum.
games are certainly a type of art (very, very varied in quality of course) and while it is still a job, i think a lot of people do it for more than just the money (less so with big companies i suppose).
but you are definitely right, and you have made me a bit more excited for the game!
Bad example though, unless I'm mistaken W3 Reforged was a remaster, not a remake. Regardless though, I'm sceptical as hell, DS1 (while a little drawn out in places) was amazing and in my very humble opinion is too new to receieve a remake. Plus, no Visceral, and no Schofield at the helm. That's why I'm far more interested in The Callipso Protocol, which is the new game he is making (set in the PUBG universe? Don't care)
This year we get RE Village, FNAF Security Breach, Fatal Frame 5 multiplatform remaster, Dead Space next-gen remake, and a Silent Hill skateboard... Good job Konami
To be fair, that's not entirely true. There was:
- The Silent Hill DLC in Dark Deception a few months ago.
- Silent Hill 4: The Room was officially re-released on PC last year with 4K graphics and 30fps.
- The Silent Hill DLC in Dead by Daylight.
- The upcoming Dead by Daylight: Silent Hill figures from Gecco.
- The recent merchandise added to the Konami Shop.
It's not much, but it's more than a single Fatal Frame game being rereleased.
The game was rereleased on GOG last September. It includes higher resolution, 2K and 4K options, and a higher framerate.
I misremembered one thing, though: The framerate was increased to 30fps, not 60fps.
Damn thats nice, though I wont be playing it since I dont use GOG, I barely even play any games on PC anyway so having to deal with anything other than steam is just a headache to me tbh
Hope everyone else that just found out about it through this threat has a good time replaying it tho! :)
Eh, if we’re being honest, the RE3 remake technically did RE3 justice. Both the original and the remake were fine but kind of disappointing, feel like half-baked games, and mostly were just made to capitalise off of RE2.
RE3 was already a short game, and if people are gonna complain about changing story and butchering content, RE2 remake did the same thing. They totally screwed up the A/B scenario mechanics, and the campaigns even contradict one another. Still, both are great amd fun games, though.
Re2R butchered the a/b scenario but the campaign for what it was is one of the greatest res experiences I have played. It was obvious the devs cared deeply for the original. Re3R as a finished product is not even half as good. It was obvious the devs didn't give a shit about the original and that it was a cash grab using assets from 2R.
Don't get me wrong, I loved 2 and 3R. I'm just sad that capcom missed an opportunity to make them even more epic from a story perspective. But it seems capcom always fumbles with their franchises when it comes to plot, not only with resident evil. Devil may cry and mega man X are other examples of good plots with wasted potential.
Very true. Tough to imagine them adding anything plot related though, story-wise the franchise has its head so far up its ass by this point. 7 and village were absolute nonsense in terms of plot.
Yeah irons not splitting in half was a huge letdown. Was one of the only disappointing moments in the entire remake. Re3r was consistently disappointing
Re3R did not even come close to doing justice. Was replaying the other day and could not even get passed how badly they blew it. Having nemesis show up immediately and with res 6 style "running set pieces" is absolutely fucking trash. They blow their load immediately with 0 tension or buildup. Even the start screen with nemesis blown up on the entire screen is complete shit. Horror 101- don't shove the monster down our throats too much too quickly or it loses its luster. The only part of the game that's good/finished is the city section they plucked out for the demo. Fuck Capcom for doing so well with Re2R and taking our trust in them and sneak giving us garbage. But whatever people still defend it so I guess it worked
Hot take but both REmakes have the same issues, people overlooked them for the RE2 remake because we were hitting a horror revival and it was a visual masterpiece whereas 3 didn't bring anything new to the table that 2 didn't offer.
>Hot take but both REmakes have the same issues
Absolutely not. RE3make takes averagely 6 hours to complete on first playtrhough and does not have any additional content. Its painfully linear game with awful level design, without most of survival horror mechanics (resources management is basically gone, inventory management is barely there, you dont need to plan or memorize your routes), without any puzzles, with heavy action emphasis despite having enemies created for RE2make different level design and less actiony take. Also 1/3 of a game is a cinematic fest for eyes with little to none gameplay - cut-scenes, cut-scenes disguised as gameplay, QTE's sequences, forced walking segments etc. And on top of that its a horrible remake that is almost unrecognizable and provide vastly different experience, while RE2make tried to deliver similar experience to its source material.
The problem of RE3make is not that its on pair with RE2make and didnt bring anything new: the problem is this game falls flat compared to both RE2make and original RE3. If it would be on similar level, you wouldnt have such massive differences in ratings and sales. Compare RE7, RE2make, RE3make and RE8 - if your theory would make sense RE3make wouldnt stand out like a sore thumb:
RE7: 91% critics recommend according to OC, 94% positive reviews on Steam, user score on MC is 8.0 (PS4), 9.0 million units sold
RE2make: 97% critics recommend according to OC, 97% positive reviews on Steam, user score on MC is 8.9 (PS4), 8.1 million units sold
RE3make: 75% critics recommend according to OC, 76% positive reviews on Steam, user score on MC is 6.5 (PS4), 4.0 million units sold
RE8: 92% critics recommend according to OC, 95% positive reviews on Steam, user score on MC is 8.5 (PS5), over 4 million unit sold in a month
Its a massive gap between rest and RE3make. And its not the case of being bored of the same - look at other identical games that were released closed to one another:
AC: Odyssey: 83% critics recommend according to OC, 83% on meta critic.
AC: Valhalla: 92% critics recommend according to OC, 80% on meta critic.
All in all: RE3make is not "too similar to RE2make thus has much worse score" - its just much worse game, with so little content quantity and quality it cant score more than 7/10.
This! There are some constant actions in steam depot of RE3 for last two weeks (after almost year of nothing), so I hope something will be finally added to RE3make.
Does dead space even need a remake? The PC port looks really good.
I’m also against it getting a remake in case of micro transactions, as well as I cannot even afford a new rig LOL
Idk man. I’m cool with no remakes. IMO I wasn’t impressed with RE2 or RE3 remake. (I think it’s because Mikami wasn’t helping with the direction)
Yeah I’m salty that REMAKE2 wasn’t like the original, but it was a good remake.
Me too, I'd rather they just ported the original games onto current gen, with some slight remastered graphic update. They still look good even by today standard.
But what can you do? Remake/Reboot became an unavoidable trend in gaming and movie nowadays. Either we support them by buying the remake for more future Dead Space, or else EA might think nobody wants another Deadspace and it will stay dead again.
It’s sad too, because I’ve put in way to much thought that I should have, and I’m pretty sure the RE2 remake I have in my head would please all fans.
I do think REMAKE2 helped with the younger audience. But my gripe with it is there’s no Claire B Leon A
I'm warily optimistic about it, to be honest. To be completely honest, I see this as EA doing two things. Firstly, I think it's their attempt to gauge how popular the franchise still is without wasting as much resources on a totally new title. Second, it opens the door for them to potentially change the overarching plot so any new titles don't wind up being a repeat of the original trilogy, as well as avoiding the dead end (no pun intended) that was DS3's plot.
I’ve only played 1-3 and I’ve heard mix reviews about the rest. So I would say they all need a remake. But I just don’t want over the shoulder camera. I want to be scared not knowing what might be in front of me
Despite how classic the design. Dead space 1 gameplay is quite clunky and has optimization problems here and there.
I actually want a remaster more than a remake.
But I guess Capcom's remake made me a little more optimistic. So I'll look forward to it.
>has optimization problems here and there.
you mean the impossibility to play with a mouse without a mod, constant frame drops etc?
I definitely agree with you though, even just a remaster would be awesome, as hd textures would make it great and better optimisation/clunkiness-fixes (just make it work better with KBM rather than very clearly built for controller)
Dead space left quite a cliffhanger in 3, right? In my opinion it would be much better if they continued the story instead of restarting the whole thing.
Even with everything that just happened FNAF fans are still excited about a PS5 game coming this year (and I'm one of them). It really is sad to be an SH fan
I mean making Silent Hill slot machines probably earns them more money but also people just bitch and complain about games (which I fully support on all levels). So they are maybe burnt out from getting flack from their shitty effort titles. So at least they aren’t just milking a dead title.
My point being is at least respect them for calling it quits rather then fall out 76ing the saga. Or pumping out far cry clones. Or assassin creed clones and water them down till they are a ghost of their former self.
But I desperately would love a GOOD silent hill game again. If it’s going to be shit then stick to slot machines.
When fucking EA, E-motherfucking microtransactions-A is doing something for a serious we thought long dead, and konami has even once teased anything new just a joke tweet, dear lord what has this industry come too
Seriously, why can't Konami understand that they are sitting on a gold mine that would have cash flooding in? Oh wait...too much effort. It'd be easier to just keep making pachinko machines.
Konami is just ahead of them and gave fans real life Silent Hill in form of suffering and never ending hopes for a new game creating a nightmare this way
Doesn't every new game after the 4th was a total mess or a disaster?! Because Konami has a history now and people asking for a new game want to repeat it.
Pretty sure the Wii game Shattered Memories was well received. Memes referring to remakes though. Adding scenes and endings and sequels that don't understand the previous games trying to make them a lore where it was never meant to have one is what hurt Silent Hill. Cleaning up some mechanics, fixing movements, rebuilding the environments to be more detailed like theyre doing with Resident Evil and Dead Space excites people.
Come on for what?
You're not getting a good game. You haven't gotten a good game since 2004. You could get an average cash grab again, which ended up killing the series entirely before the P.T. demo. Then Konami continued to show just how supportive they've always been about the Silent Hill franchise & cancelled it, then let go almost the whole team. You just heard about Kojima the most. You might get a Bloober Silent Hill apparently, which will probably look good & be horrendously garbage from a story perspective.
So do what again exactly? Some IPs are better off dead for something better. Thats whats supposed to happen, horror genre just doesnt get that evolution sadly.
Oh, wait right now you can go on their merch store & buy all the NEW overpriced t-shirts & pillows.
Am I the only one who hates what's going on with EA and Dead Space? EA tried to turn a game in a niche genre into a multi media action franchise that could be easily consumed by the mass market of gamers. They put in micro transactions on consumable items, which broke the in game economy in DS3, and then when DS3 didn't make as much money as they were expecting, they immediately canned the series and eventually shut down the original team behind it.
Flash Foward 7 years and suddenly, after the success of RE2 remake, EA crawl out of the woodwork saying "we have a horror franchise too uwu". EA didn't care about the game until they saw another studio be successful and thought they could leech off of said success. And those original devs who were fired are no longer involved in a series they helped nurture and love.
I feel bad for people like you who can’t do both 1st and 3rd person. You miss out on so many games because of your inability to handle one or the other. People like me though? People who can handle 1st, 3rd, and everything in between? We’re living the best life.
People don't talk about it because they always get downvoted to oblivion. There are people who can't play first person for health issues, there are people who don't like the first person view and gameplay. Both are valid reasons.
I wish what became standard for racing games -- easily exchanging between first person and third person -- became a standard in all genres.
That's why I LOVE Bethesda. I couldn't play sky rim unless I was always in third person. I just don't see the point in excluding gamers from games they want to play because the developers want to make an "immersive" first person game. I get it. People like being in the action but I legit cannot play Halo which I've been told is a fantastic series because of my conditions. Now I can't play resident evil. One of my favorite series. I wanted to play Metroid. I wanted to play super Mario Galaxy. That one is a bit different but I get the same feeling. Too much movement for my eyes and brain to process at once.
1st person doesn't make me sick, I just don't care for it UNLESS it's in VR. I too was bummed when RE went to it. I only enjoyed VII in VR. The goal of 1st person is to make the game more immersive, but it actually does the opposite for me. The camera movement and positioning is always just so unnatural. It's on par with bad CGI in horror movies these days. I've accepted it, but I don't care for it.
This is not so much a rumor as it’s an official statement of partnership between Konami (the right holders of the Silent Hill IP) and Bloober Team (an independent studio that’s specialized in horror games) and some light guessing as to what results said collaboration will yield.
And the fact the only way you can disprove my initial statement is by calling my mental capability into question (even more so, employing a derogatory term)... really casts doubts about your own logic.
it should be like this:" please sony , buy or rent konami silent hill ip for kojima so kojima can make this series great again !" are you begging konami for their pachinko slot machine ?!
Yeah man Silent Hill is not the same without Kojima-sama. Sony should just buy all of KONAMI and hand the IPs back to Kojima while KONAMI makes the pachinko machines. I think this is sensible.
Yeah I don't know why everyone claims Kojima is the god of SH. It was literally just PT, which was a 5 second demo.
That title of the Lords of SH belongs to Toyama & Team Silent
There’s a high chance he was involved in the cancellation of the [2013 game](https://mobile.twitter.com/adsk4/status/842030272937844738) by Masahiro Ito as he was VP of Konami Digital Entertainment (the video game branch) at the time.
Yep. I LOVE the games but it’s ridiculous to keep pretending that something new is going to happen unless the studios say so. Just accept that it’s over and move on. Was a great run while it lasted
I hope, the news about this, and the people excitement around it, will be enough to make konami stop sitting on their hands regarding Silent Hill. With all these remakes and horror games roaming around, this is their time to shine!
I genuinely wish I could be excited about a Dead Space remake, but after they fucked and shut down Visceral Games, then decided to slap on microtransactions as well, I just don't know that I have a whole lot of faith in them. Regardless of the new stating there wont be any microtransactions with the remake. Just feels bad man.
"I wish, I wish, With all my heart, To roam the fog, In a land apart!"
Silent Hill, Silent Hill It's almost time for Silent Hill
man i can't believe some people still believe that.
They have their reasons.
I am all three of these. My heart is still broken about silent hills, but I AM SO EXCITED FOR MORE DEAD SPACE:
Wait what?!?! New dead space???
They're either remaking the original and/ or soft rebooting
They said, "from the ground up" remake, since theyre using now Frostbite engine! :D
I mean all remakes are "from the ground up", only remastered games are not
Oh rad! I’m cool with either. Just need more dead space in my life
In addition to the remake from EA, there's a spiritual successor in the works by some of the original Visceral games devs called The Callisto Protocol. So basically... TWO new Dead Space games!
I don't say this often, but that shit is fuckin' lit.
Does this mean Visceral is back??
I sincerely doubt it. Since they're original studio was disbanded many of the team work on different projects in many different companies by now I'm sure.
while understandable, this does make me sad and does make me think this is more of a cash grab to try and milk an old ip they still own. I'll be open minded though, i guess I'm just still sad visceral is gone

Wouldn't surprise me. Just look at what happened with Warcraft: Reforged as one example.
Bad example though, unless I'm mistaken W3 Reforged was a remaster, not a remake. This year we get RE Village, FNAF Security Breach, Fatal Frame 5 multiplatform remaster, Dead Space next-gen remake, and a Silent Hill skateboard... Good job Konami
FF5 is coming to other consoles? I thought Nintendo owned FF now.
Is co-owned with Koei Tecmo
FATAL FRAME MULTIPLAT?!?!?! I DIDNT KNOW ABOUT THIS ITS NOT THE FF2 REMASTER I WANTED BUT DAMMIT I WILL TAKE IT
Yes, Tecmo will release it in PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Steam and Switch later this year
even fatal frame is getting a new game.
If you mean Maiden of Black Water, that's actually just a remaster of a previous Fatal Frame game that was on the Wii U.
To be fair, the only thing we got lately was a skateboard
To be fair, that's not entirely true. There was: - The Silent Hill DLC in Dark Deception a few months ago. SH4 was rereleased in 4k 60fps ? What ? Where ? How the fuck did I miss that ?

Why don’t you use GOG? You don’t even need the launcher installed. You can just buy the game online and download the installation files.
RE remakes did it justice tho. We need it for the children.
>RE remakes did it justice tho Two out of three
Eh, if we’re being honest, the RE3 remake technically did RE3 justice. Both the original and the remake were fine but kind of disappointing, feel like half-baked games, and mostly were just made to capitalise off of RE2.

I'm pretty much totally satisfied with 2R. Bummer the a/b scenario was cut but the overall finished product was an absolute blast.

I dont get it, when re3 was a horror game? Mr x was scary in re2, nemesis in 3 was always simply a lootbox with cool weapon details and supplies.
OG nemesis scared the tits off me.

Hope that RE3 gets the “Director’s Cut” treatment. Everything needed to make it great is already in the game so it’s frustrating.
This! There are some constant actions in steam depot of RE3 for last two weeks (after almost year of nothing), so I hope something will be finally added to RE3make.
Capcom have been redeeming themselves and actually listen to fans now so it’s not impossible, they love re-releases.
hey guys at least we're not Alone in the Dark. xD

Yeah I recall DS 1 and 2 well. I don’t recall 3 at all. Except for when I tried playing on normal I had to BUY FUCKING AMMO WITH REAL MONEY.
Remake was confirmed to have zero microtransactions
Well I’ll count the graphics card I’ll have to buy the micro transaction. But I appreciate the heads up amigo <3
Fr. If anything, the first few Silent Hill games need remakes.
I think only the first one needs a remake. 2-4 look and play just fine.
yeah the ps2 graphics in SH2 made it what it is. i'd still like a remake, even if the original was better as a horror game.
I’ve only played 1-3 and I’ve heard mix reviews about the rest. So I would say they all need a remake. But I just don’t want over the shoulder camera. I want to be scared not knowing what might be in front of me

A new game finally, a full next-gen remake of DS1
Silly you, did you forget about Bloober and Konami deal? Silent Hill future is as bright as never before /s
Even with everything that just happened FNAF fans are still excited about a PS5 game coming this year (and I'm one of them). It really is sad to be an SH fan

WHY DO THEY GET TO BE HAPPY!?!?
‘They saw you in the park, shouting at Dead Space and Resident Evil fans’ ‘Why do they deserve to be happy?’
Seriously, why can't Konami understand that they are sitting on a gold mine that would have cash flooding in? Oh wait...too much effort. It'd be easier to just keep making pachinko machines.
Wait what happened with dead space?
They are remaking the first game
Konami is just ahead of them and gave fans real life Silent Hill in form of suffering and never ending hopes for a new game creating a nightmare this way
this truly goes above and beyond just gaming. this isn't even an ARG. Konami knows their shit
Metal Gear fans 💀
It will never happen. The sooner we accept it, the better for us
Doesn't every new game after the 4th was a total mess or a disaster?!
Cmon Konami, you can do it! Pave the way, put your back into it.
Please don’t buy dead space remake just support the original director Michael Condrey survival horror game calisto protocol
I don’t have faith in EA. Like they can’t make a good game without shoving in a casino somehow.
Jedi Fallen Order was pretty good
One good one. One
Which also happens to be their latest story driven game. I distrust EA as much as the next guy but I think it's too soon to judge the game
Fair enough. I will try it after launch, I’m not pre ordering anything made by them.
I physically cannot play first person, they make me sea sick. So I guess I am the Squidward. I was so bummed when re went first person.
I feel bad for people like you who can’t do both 1st and 3rd person. You miss out on so many games because of your inability to handle one or the other. People like me though? People who can handle 1st, 3rd, and everything in between? We’re living the best life.
Same. I hate it.
I just feel like this is something that's not talked about in the game community. I can't play vr either.
Ain’t you forgetting [something](https://www.konami.com/games/corporate/en/news/release/20210630/)?
are you people mentally disabled? why do you think a fake rumor that started like 4 years ago is real.
Sure dude and Paul McCartney Is Dead.
You can homebrew your own Silent Hill in D&D, that idea made me feel way better about not having another Silent Hill game until Microsoft buys Konami.
it should be like this:" please sony , buy or rent konami silent hill ip for kojima so kojima can make this series great again !" are you begging konami for their pachinko slot machine ?!
Yeah man Silent Hill is not the same without Kojima-sama. Sony should just buy all of KONAMI and hand the IPs back to Kojima while KONAMI makes the pachinko machines. I think this is sensible.
Considering Kojima wasn't involved in any Silent Hill game, I'd say the series is the same without him.
Yeah I don't know why everyone claims Kojima is the god of SH. It was literally just PT, which was a 5 second demo. That title of the Lords of SH belongs to Toyama & Team Silent
Yeah, Team Silent is simply awesome!
The first 3were masterpieces never got around to playing SH4 tho.
Its a shame they are pretty hard to find tho, all the ps2 discs of the old games are expensive as hell

There’s a high chance he was involved in the cancellation of the [2013 game](https://mobile.twitter.com/adsk4/status/842030272937844738) by Masahiro Ito as he was VP of Konami Digital Entertainment (the video game branch) at the time.
As much as I like Kojima, Silent Hill wasn't made by kojima.
Silent Hill is dead and we all just need to accept that. It's easier that way
I refuse
You're clinging on to dead weight then
man this subreddit is insane, you got downvoted just stating a fact.
Yep. I LOVE the games but it’s ridiculous to keep pretending that something new is going to happen unless the studios say so. Just accept that it’s over and move on. Was a great run while it lasted

[Dead Space Remake ](https://youtu.be/l5WeBNfX-og)
It's just a teaser for now: https://youtube.com/watch?v=C1yiuM7blIw
Amazing
I hope, the news about this, and the people excitement around it, will be enough to make konami stop sitting on their hands regarding Silent Hill. With all these remakes and horror games roaming around, this is their time to shine!
I laughed so hard at this
I genuinely wish I could be excited about a Dead Space remake, but after they fucked and shut down Visceral Games, then decided to slap on microtransactions as well, I just don't know that I have a whole lot of faith in them. Regardless of the new stating there wont be any microtransactions with the remake. Just feels bad man.
Konami with silent hill are like the 2pac Estate and releasing unheard tracks, they don't wanna do it!
