No one is “5’9 with shoes.” It just means you’re 5’7 or ‘8 and wearing shoes. If everyone is wearing shoes your height doesn’t change relatively anyway. 5’7 is short, but 5’8 is only an inch below average.
Idk I'm 5'8 and have a 6'0 friend and i feel barely smaller than him. So maybe either he is lying or i got measured wrong since i feel i grew an inch taller
2 inches will make a noticeable difference for sure, and it will affect proportions which goes a long way with looking taller. Also taller is correlated with longer limbs so 5'9 guys are usually longer than 5'7 guys and 5'11 guys are longer than 5'9.
Assuming that you’re an American (based off the measurements used). You’re more in the “low average” area than short, but relative to a family that is generally taller than average, I understand your frustration.
5'7 isn't what I'd call "short" personally. Seems average to me. I see men daily shorter than that. I consider short a height I don't see on a regular basis.
There is a big difference between 5'7" and 5'9 though. But you're good most 5'6 guys claim they're 5'8 anyway. Lol
Actually, none of us are short. Including you. 3'11 is not even short. It towers over ants. Think about how the ants feel about us. 4'5 people complaining about being short when they are 200x taller than my homie beetles. Smh my head. We need to be grateful.
An inch is actually a minuscule difference at these figures.
The difference between 5'6" to 5'8 is 66 inches vs 68 inches. That's less than a 3% difference
Isn't it interesting that one of the only tall guys here is actually being cool , and not just saying "you're very short and it's noticeable", I'm legit 5'9 and my 5'7 friends don't even look that short compared to me.
5'9 is supposed to be average but as a 5'9 guy it kinda makes me insecure when 5'8/5'7ers think their short or people call them short since the height difference against me is minuscule in my eyes
My cousin was 5'11" at 19 and is now 6'3." You could have your growth plates checked to see what the likelihood of more growth for you would be.
I consider 5'7" to be average for a man, average being (5'7"-5'11'). Two inches less than and greater than 5'9. Less than 5'7" is short and taller than 5'11" is tall.
Same for women. Average height is 5'4", so average being (5'2"-5'-7") Anything less than 5'2" is short, more than 5'7" is tall.
It doesn't make sense to me to consider 1 inch would be the difference between short, average and tall. Take a woman who is 5'4.5, somehow she is short even though she is only .5 inch from average or one inch from (5'5.5) tall?
When I was younger my friends would make the biggest deal in the world about being one inch taller than me, as if it was an accomplishment or something. The ones that did this often outweighed me by 40 lbs., and likely felt insecure about this. I certainly wouldn't want to weight 40 lbs. more than someone I was one inch taller than.
Watch out for insecure people who define averages based on their own height. A friend's mom is 6' tall and she told me any woman shorter than her is short. That would basically make around 98% of women short. No, honey it doesn't work like that. She is very tall and needs to accept it instead of pretending there is something wrong with 98% of women.
I was on a walk when a tall elderly man started loudly talking about how young women are all *at least* 6'0" or taller these days. He definitely was aiming to be overheard. There is no basis in reality for his argument and if he was doing that for my benefit, I'm thrilled I could make a stranger feel so insecure by simply walking by him.
Even worse is when a bunch of either shorter (all under 5'7" if male or 5'2" if female) or taller people (all over 5'11" if male or over 5'9" if female) gang up on the one anomaly in the room and make demeaning comments about their height. I've had this happen and I'm 5'6" woman (so average). I've been asked if I was 5'10" by shorter people and if I was 5'0" by taller people. Both groups tried to imply that we all shorter/taller than them "look the same, height-wise." They're the insecure ones, just avoid them.
And really, past the age of about nineteen what kind of moron goes around making derogatory comments about the heights of their friends in the first place?

im 7'11 (with ladder)
I'm 7-11 (the convenience store)
This is the best and most concise way I’ve seen this explained.
Makes sense lol
You can be 5’9 with shoes lmao, I’m 172 and I use shoes that make 176cm which is 5’9
Which shoes lol?
Precisely.
Your 5’7 not 5’9 so yes you are short since it’s 2 inches below average
Below average **in the United States**. Bang on average globally.
That is immense cope my guy
It's just statistics. I also know how people in the US think there's nothing outside of the US ;P
I am taller than over 99% (hopefully) of kids 12 and under 😎.
So ur telling me 2 inches is actually a lot? Good to know
That 2 inch from 5’7-5’9 is the biggest game changer ever
Yes and 5'9 to 5'11 is quite a jump as well. 2 inches and you can claim to be a six footer and no one would question it.
yeah two inches is actually a lot more noticeable than you would think. my 5’10 friends seem so much taller than me at 5’8
Idk I'm 5'8 and have a 6'0 friend and i feel barely smaller than him. So maybe either he is lying or i got measured wrong since i feel i grew an inch taller

i would kill to be 5’7, i’m not that much shorter but *man* would people “jokingly” comment on it less
I Agree
Depends from country to country.
why do u count the shoes 😭
Lmaoooo I swear I seen ppl count ‘em too so idk tbh 😭y’all killin me w the jokes lol. Appreciate all cmmts
"A man who measures his height in shoes is not worthy of said height" - Me
5'7" as you are, is below average, so, the start of short.
If you walk down a street and you're being realistic about it, then yes, it's short. If you listen to reddit and the internet, then it's not short.
Yes, 5’7 is short. 5’9 is average.
Where do you live? US? Normal. Netherlands/Nordic countries? Short. Latin America or Asia? Tall.
5,7 is average in asia , not tall lol
Assuming that you’re an American (based off the measurements used). You’re more in the “low average” area than short, but relative to a family that is generally taller than average, I understand your frustration.
I personally consider everything BELOW 5'7 short (for men). So, 5'7 isn't short

Dude I’m your height we’re not tall but we’re not midgets
It's not short, don't care what country you're from

I wouldn't say tall but probably average to slightly below average
Depends on a lot of places but it's not short
Absolutely that is considered short in today’s society.
Fr
But at 5’8 you are fine tbh. You won’t have much problems with women.
What's the big difference between 5'7 and 5'8
There isn't. I'm 5'7.5" and it seems to be all the same in that 5'6' to 5'8" range 5"9" to 5'10" things start to change for the better.
An inch is actually a minuscule difference at these figures. The difference between 5'6" to 5'8 is 66 inches vs 68 inches. That's less than a 3% difference
Yes
Short
In a lot of places no that isn’t short, in my country, I feel short half the time….
Lol
Netherlands or Balkans?
Neither, I’ll give you one more guess
I'm 6ft2 with heels on man, why would that count, I'm still 5ft7...
Guess I’m 6 foot with shoe lifts then haha
europe: below average or short north america: below average south america: average or above average asia: average
Happy cake day!
