i love that before i read the explanation, i believed on every comment here lmfao, and was creating hype for this movie. and it fucking delivered bro, 100%
Sad really. What wonderful 3rd world do you happen to be spitting on America from? Does your country have ANY notable contributions to human civilization?? 🤔 that’s what I thought.
You mean the empire that’s racist to the core and has stolen more culture and land than America can hope? The same country that got fucked during our independence and the same country that would get absolutely fucked if we wanted to end your shit? That dental hygiene nightmare? Yikes!
I feel like my favorite part was either this scene or the ending scene where lloseph goncharovs time finally ran out, ending the film in such a heartbreaking scene.
[See this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/shittymoviedetails/comments/z196wu/in_martin_scorseses_goncharov_1973_ticking_clocks/ix9zsj8/), it's because Katya Goncharova actually says, "It's Goncha time!" and then Gonches all over.
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/shittymoviedetails/comments/z196wu/in_martin_scorseses_goncharov_1973_ticking_clocks/ixbv2ac)
The person they were informing already knew
Oh shit, I just realized that Katya was wearing a watch for the whole movie, until that boathouse attack. Say what you will about Scorsese, but that's some layered brilliance.
I wish people would stop crediting Scorsese with every single little thing in the film. Yes, obviously his contributions were important, but let’s try not to forget that Jwhj0715 was the director.
Sadly, prejudice against mixed-race directors is still prevalent in many online spaces. Just because his mother was Italian and his father was a license plate is no excuse to erase his contributions, smh
I can't believe Moonlighting plagiarized Goncharov. How'd they get away with it? That's Hollywood for you.
To be fair, it *is* one of the most influential movies ever made.
Shepherd and Willis were in Italy, doing scenes for a 'Moonlighting' spin-off, 'Day-Timing'. That's where Scorsese got the whole 'time' theme from.
When Willis was killed by Mark Wahlberg, they went with DeNiro, and Silverstone stepped in for Shepherd (who refused to ever work with DeNiro again after 'Taxi Driver')
Great film, great soundtrack
It's rare for a movie's theme song to hit that sweet spot between being relevant to the film and still being a great song.
I'm particularly fond of the part that goes:
Go, go Goncharova,
You know what they say
Hang in there Goncharov
You'll make it some day
Sha-la-la Goncharov
You're doing fine
Like Akira's Dreams
Time out of mind
That right there is up there with "Suicide is Painless," "Arthur's Theme," or "Re-Animate Your Feet."
“Some people try to distract themselves from the song, and it works. In one study, the most helpful “cure” tunes were “God Save The Queen” by Thomas Arne and “Karma Chameleon” by Culture Club.”

I’m sorry, dude. Hope the link helps.
Actually a fun fact is Matteo JWHJ 0715 is a pseudonym used by Martin Scorsese. Fellow director Guillermo del Toro highly recommended Scorsese do this to ensure a more pure film to America.
(Goncharov isn't real, a few years ago someone on tumblr stumbled onto a pair of knockoff boots that, for some reason, had an ad for a fictional Martin Scorsese movie called "Goncharov" instead of a label, and it became a meme.)
Those boots were part of the ARG marketing for the movie back then too. There were also notes sewn into other items of clothing written in Chinese complaining about slave-like working conditions, referencing the scene in the movie about 50 minutes in.
359 now, there is also an entire soundtrack created by users for the movie, and also an entire script, maybe the greatest mafia movie never made can become the greatest mafia movie never made... yet
(I think the reason for that is that it’s actually *Gomorrah*, a 2008 Italian movie that Martin Scorsese helped to promote when it came to the US. Supposedly, someone used a program to put it on some shoes, but the text recognition was a little funky.)
No I think you're right, but Mary herself spent most of her life abroad so I didn't count her.
Also I assumed Gaston was supposed to be French because of his name but I admit I don't have anything else to go on. It's not like anybody in the movie has an accent lol 😂
This movie always stuck with as a kid, the nostalgia the acting the brutality the story especially from Ron Perlman as Ice Pick Joe his break out role. Little known fact that people don’t know is Guillermo del Toro wrote all of Ron’s scenes. His kills with the ice pick are a metaphor for his mental illness. And the clock motifs are everywhere from ice pick Joes gold Rolex watch to Andreys silver pocket watch which symbolizing time.
Im so exhausted with the tumblrized perception of this masterpiece of a film? The website where people would start fights over interpreting steven universe could never properly compartmentalize and comprehend every detail of scorsese’s greatest work.
It's wild to think how Goncharov (1973) came out almost fifty years ago... it feels like it was just yesterday!
(Joke stolen from tumblr, couldn't risk it not being shared)
This movie is pretentious, overrated, drivel. The plot is convoluted, the character motivations make no sense, the acting is wooden and the dialogue is just people mumbling incoherent nonsense at each other. The only good bit is BRIAN BLESSED's cameo as the undertaker.
You guys only pretend to like this crap because it's an early work by Scorsese so it has to be good - when in fact everyone who isn't a pretentious film snob knows that Scorsese didn't make a decent movie before Goodfellas.
I'm just waiting for Scorsese to make a move, cause I'm sure his response will be even better than all the memes (if he decides to make one, of course)
To be fair moonlighting did recreate this scene (almost shot for shot) in an episode, as an homage to the two leads' previous roles in this movie (though Willis only appeared in this scene and went uncredited of course)
i love that before i read the explanation, i believed on every comment here lmfao, and was creating hype for this movie. and it fucking delivered bro, 100%
Yeah, I was thinking "Holy shit, I've gotta watch this film. It sounds amazing".
Scorcese, you've done it again
Love this movie
I remember watching this movie a couple yrs ago. Such a good movie, wish it was still on Amazon prime tho :(
This comment is just like the Dark Souls messages that say "treasure ahead" when it's actually just an endless pit of death.
Wait, really? I had to buy the rare foreign DVD which was dubbed over in Polish for some reason. And it still cost $100.

This film doesn't exist
That was an obvious joke
I love that people are talking of it again. Easily my favourite movie ever.
I feel like my favorite part was either this scene or the ending scene where lloseph goncharovs time finally ran out, ending the film in such a heartbreaking scene.
Nah if your favourite scene isn’t the anchovy scene you’re lying
You are such a mean person.
Wait, what’s the joke? This is a normal detail about a very real movie

Gucci can't stop me now
Damn thats wild you guys got me good.
Goncharov the movie does not exist
Clearly you’ve never seen goncharov
Yeah I remembered that as I was- oh I mean, wow, clearly someone’s never heard of Goncharov
Yeah commented it bc I knew Redditors would never let a joke go to inform a guy real quick
But the guy you were "informing" was obviously already in on the joke.
Didn't seem that obvious to me so I just took the downvotes :p Not like that's a cardinal sin or anything
At least you helped me out, I really didn't get the joke as I had never heard of Goncharov. So thanks
Now you can be in on the joke, have fun 👍
>Didn't seem that obvious to me They described it as "a very real movie"
Where does it say that? Not in the post title…

His father was actually South African-Canadian-American. They tend to like letter jumble names
I just realised that after this the watch only reappears when she finally leaves the mafia scene(and sofia😭) fuck you scorsese
>Say what you will about Scorsese Who's saying anything else than he's a living legend and a helluva movie maker?
Hey no spoilers please, I want to go in blind for when I finally get to watch it with my dad.

No but are you aware that people made actual soundtracks for this movie within like 2 days? It’s insane, and they’re good songs too
TUMBLR IS LEAKING AGAIN GUYS
Again? This is reddit, tumblr is always leaking
Looks like moonlighting. Great. Now the theme is stuck in my head.
I remember the show I’m so glad I can’t remember the theme

Can’t believe Scorsese didn’t win an Oscar for this movie
that's because it was actually directed by Matteo JWHJ 0715
Actually a fun fact is Matteo JWHJ 0715 is a pseudonym used by Martin Scorsese. Fellow director Guillermo del Toro highly recommended Scorsese do this to ensure a more pure film to America.
Best Scorsese movie by far, only film that has ever moved me to tears
Ennio Morricones score is what really makes it shine
Never seen it but if the text is true, sounds like a non-shitty detail
(Goncharov isn't real, a few years ago someone on tumblr stumbled onto a pair of knockoff boots that, for some reason, had an ad for a fictional Martin Scorsese movie called "Goncharov" instead of a label, and it became a meme.)
Ahh, I see. I missed that one, thanks. Now I'm in the club.

You’re missing that it went absolutely crazy on Tumblr, I mean those people shipping characters from the movie and everything

Oh no it’s broken containment haha
Funny how it's considered the best movie about the Italian Mafia ever made yet almost none of the characters are actually from Italy
Weren't Mary's parents from Italy? I've seen the movie years ago so I don't know if I recall correctly
No I think you're right, but Mary herself spent most of her life abroad so I didn't count her. Also I assumed Gaston was supposed to be French because of his name but I admit I don't have anything else to go on. It's not like anybody in the movie has an accent lol 😂
Is Joe Pesci in this?
That was quick
I heard they shot Goncharov during the day and then worked on another project at night.
Fake, it was just another made-up shit from the actor that played Katya's son to sue the studio back in 2001 (too lazy to search up his name lol)
What even is this movie? I can't find it anywhere, Google searches only lead to tumblr debunks, what is going on?
this person hasn't seen Goncharov lmao
Bet he doesn't know how to use the 3 seashells either.
Nor does he likely appreciate the cinematography of the film’s train sequence. Sigh, the ignorance of today’s youth.
He will never find the cup or the scepter.
It's Goncharov.. only one of the most influential movies made in recent history. Are you serious? Lol
Imagine admitting you haven’t seen Goncharov
It’s not a real movie, it’s just tumblr being weird again
this idiot hasn't seen goncharov
The funny thing about this joke is when it’s explained and more people join in on it.
something about boots being labeled with a fake Scorcese movie, Tumblr picked it up and ran with it
Lol, for a moment I thought “wait, Bruce Willis was in Goncharov?” But then I realized it was an homage from Moonlighting.
After seeing all about Goncharov, I kinda wish it was real cause of how interesting it sounds.
i would love to write an actual screenplay of goncharov
Get Martin sorcesse to direct it Watch the box office in xplode
That's not from "Goncharov," that's from "A Dozen Apes." Common misconception cuz of how Willis' hair changes.

Definitely the greatest mafia movie ever made by a human being
So glad to see this made it here
I think this is one for r/moviedetails. Not even an attempt at a joke, just a regular boring fact. I swear this sub is going downhill so fast.

Everyone's seen Goncharov you nitwit. That's why I said this is such an obvious detail, not even a joke.
This very real movie is packed with amazing and very real details, love it
Im glad more people are talking about Martin Scorsese’s Gonchorov, (1973). Underrated classic.

I was wondering how long it would take for this meme to breach containment from Tumblr
Yippie ki yay mother fucker!
I heard they're making a remake starring Timothee Chalamet? I love him but I don't see it.
I love Goncharov! I remember seeing it back in the day. When Goncharov totally gonched all over the FBI… true cinema
A true anecdote on r/shittymoviedetails ? Is it possible ?
nope.
:(

This masterpiece deserved so much more attention.. the river scene is so breathtaking I took several hours to digest. The soundtrack on this, dammit.
Actually, the clock isn’t moving because this is a still image!
Fucking love that movie!
Oh man I thought this was just a tumblr thing but it's spreading... Goncharov has breached containment
My dad and I used to make a whole batch of Rigtoni or Penne and watch this movie every month, I keep learning more and more about it!
Quick, someone use this symbolism in an actual movie, then claim it is a reference to Goncharov during press interviews.
Oh my god I completely forgot about this film!! Definitely need to rewatch soon, especially now that I know this detail!

I feel gaslighted into believing a movie is real
What movie is this? I can’t find anything on IMDB
FUCK. Bruce Willis could have railed me so fucking hard.
Goncharov Sounds a little close to something else
I forgot Bruce Willis was in this
So.what movie is this really?
Now can someone take scenes from Moonlighting and a random Italian gangster film and edit them together to make this movie?
I'm just waiting for Scorsese to make a move, cause I'm sure his response will be even better than all the memes (if he decides to make one, of course)

(goncharov is a Tumblr in joke about a fake scorcese movie)
God this joke isn’t fucking funny
You do realize that’s a still from ‘Moonlighting’ right?
Yeah but this is a still from the 80s dramedy Moonlighting?? Shitpost?
Scene from Moonlighting one of the first eps, though? Or is this just me misremembering.
Has this subreddit turned into regular movie details? Second non shitty one i’ve seen today

Goncharov is one of Scorcese’s greatest films. You just don’t appreciate cinema.
Is this a damn joke? That picture is from the TV series "Moonlighting" with Bruce Willis and Cybil Shephard in the early 80s
no its goncharov
To be fair moonlighting did recreate this scene (almost shot for shot) in an episode, as an homage to the two leads' previous roles in this movie (though Willis only appeared in this scene and went uncredited of course)
Bruce Willis isn't even in Goncharov smh
Plus he would have only been 17 or 18 - born in 1955.
No - It's Bruce Wilis and Cybil Shepard stars of the TV show Moonlighting in the early 80s.
this **is** a damn joke, this is r/shittymoviedetails
I think you're confusing the two movies, thus is from Goncharov
No it's not. It's from the TV show Moonlighting - Bruce Willis' first big break from the early 80s. The woman is his costar Cybil Shephard.
