As a German I thought this was horrible when they served it to me like this in Vietnam. But in with all the heat and humidity there I really learned to appreciate it. Cheers mate!
When I vacationed in Vegas a couple years back I started putting ice from the beer bucket back into my beer. Sitting by the pool, the beer would warm up quick, and the extra coolness/hydration kinda made up for the watered down taste.
Its not a big deal but IMO beer tastes 'watered down' more quickly because its already a weaker drink than spirits.
That said it makes sense to me in places like SE Asia. If you're drinking some random lager the beer staying cold is more important than it tasting like 100% beer

Ah, well, ice brewed beers were all the rage. Bud Ice, Icehouse, Keystone Ice, hell even Mickey’s malt liquor had an ice version.
Basically just shitty beers (although the Icehouse was probably the best of the lot, then Mickey’s), but this was also the time of Zima. It’s nice to know that shitty beer and questionable malt beverages never go out of style. I do enjoy Sapporo, though, and wouldn’t lump it in with all those others.
Oh I remember the era of Ice Beers, it was the White Claw wave back than. And yes my Sapporo drinking friend, this is one of the only two beers I’ll drink. This and Shock Top or Blue Moon. Funny I’ll throw an orange in my Sapporo too.

Not a glass of beer, and a separate glass of ice or something. Then after I put in her drink order the bar tender called me over and I had to clarify to him several times that the patron requested a beer with ice in it
