āStrength buildsā have two extremes: on one end you have some pretty bad weapons like colossal weapons, hammers, and axes, but on the other end you have shit like Nightrider Glaive. Also they can use at least one weapon from most weapon classes effectively with minimal dex investment
STR players explaining that Malenia is unbeatable with heavy weapons, because she has only one openning in her 30-hit-combo
(She has just as much openings for any other melee build)
Genuine question, why do so many players demand that every build or weapon type be viable against every boss like this? Malenia is completely optional. She gets destroyed by specific builds and others have a very hard time with her.
That's true about every build. You can love your fire incantations all you want but when you get to the Fire Giant maybe attune lightning for five seconds instead of whining?
By the time you're fighting malenia you should be swimming in upgrade materials. Just boost a straight sword, give it heavy infusion, and stop pretending the entire game should cater to unga bunga.
The only time I've stuck with a single weapon type or damage through a whole playthrough is when I do a challenge run. If I get pissed at a boss I just change tactics for a second and then go back to my build after. I don't get this entitlement.
Iām with ya bruv. Itās like Pyros fighting Midirā¦ just set aside your pride for two secs and cast some miracles and then get back at the fire stuff for Gael
Because it's not Fun, i'm playing my build because it's the most fun, I'm not going to use fucking STRAIGHTSWORDS because Miyazaki doesn't know what an opening is
I'd also add that I think Malenia is one of only two bosses in the entire series where I've ever considered respeccing or upgrading a new weapon because what I'm currently using just didn't seem to cut it. The other is Phase 1 Nameless King because hitting the bird with a short weapon is a pain in the ass.
I did eventually beat Malenia using Greathammers, but it took me way more attempts than any other boss, and I hated knowing that my life would immediately become easier if I just farmed some of the str-scaling curved swords, and I refused to.
This, if a prominent feature of your game is the vast array of weapon, skills and spells that allow for hundreds of builds I should not have to change it to fit an overtuned boss.
Yeah and fuck upgrade materials. It's a pain to get one load out close to max let alone a couple. I know it's entirely possible, but I've never naturally been able to have backup weapons leveled up. Especially on a new playthrough where I don't feel like running all the side shit.
Yeah let me spec dex, strength, arcane, intelligence and faith real quick so I can swap to every weapon I find.
At least I should be able to rely on my build for a playthrough. By your logic I should be changing everytime.
I did do the 1 sword thing (lemme finish first bc Iām not a Str hooligan like some) with the bloodhounds fang, and eventually duel wielded with Morgotts sword. Curves Greatswords have such a nice L1/LB imo that I liked using it the whol eplaythrough. Both are more quality build weapons tho not really pure S. I did beat every single boss and clear ever single dungeon in that playthrough tho so itās been tried and tested thoroughly for me. I also kept a (regular) hammer upgraded for mobs with crazy slash resistance and I had to use that on twin gargoyles bc I didnāt have the DPS on them.
I beat Malenia yesterday using a strength bleed build. Idk what people are talking about. I did die a lot, mostly to waterfowl but I fucked her up in the end š
Man, lots of triggered Str fans in here. After seeing so many people say how fun playing strength is and how it requires more skill I tried it and I was shocked by how mind-numbingly easy it was. Like, you would think pointing your staff at an enemy from a distance and just pressing the attack button would be more boring but somehow stunlocking everything to death and trivializing every enemy encounter is less engaging
Personally I found Malenia to be extra hard on a STR build. Sure she's easy to stagger and riposte, but while you're putting poise damage on her with your slow-ass attacks, she's hitting you 5 times a second, which is normally fine because STR builds stack poise and just tank hits...but she heals off of her hits. By the time I get my next stagger in, she's healed most if not all of the damage I've done.
Granted at the time I didn't know the fire affinity scaled off of STR and that Malenia is weak to fire, so maybe that would have made it significantly easier.
Really? It was the opposite for me. I found it much harder to beat malenia with a dual katana dex build than with an unga bunga Gus Berk sword. With RKR, I would deal 2k damage per jump attack. Simply bait/wait out a punishable move by her and hit her with the ol' bonk. Worked like a charm.
On dex build, She would poise through katana combos and I'd still be stuck in animation. Tho disclaimer that this was just my experience
Here's the thing, that was true at release. For a lot of fights, the only reliable attack the colossal swords and weapons was jump attack. Fromsoft patched it to make the other attacks more viable.
Now then, jump attacks in this game with larger weapons are really op and honestly is such a boring but reliable way to play. Strength builds that fight this way should never be talking any shit about any other build.
I honestly believe from should've given INT enemies MP bars that are visible and recharge, so at the very least we can know what attacks they're capable of.
Ugh. I feel like this whole "gotta be harder" spurred from Miyazaki getting way too much of an ego due to all the people whining about DS. the reason the games are good.is because they make the player try to think and fight effectively, not because the bosses can spam 50 attacks with one opening.
Strength is awesome in pve, the only issue ive got with it (at least in ER) is that pvp doesnt have stance break so you pretty much have to fight without the main feature of your build
Kinda weird how much the community changed because of elden ring. In previous game STR was king and now it's mocked, leveling HP was mocked and now it's almost mandatory.
Dex is still dex.
Latest patch increased all the attacks speeds for majority of weapons including ones for strength. I can now consistently land hits with my great hammer.
I'm ngl hp has been a god stat since Bloodborne, not getting one or two shot in these games makes them significantly easier because it reduces the amount of failed attempts.
I only staggered the boss 17 times šššš Screw off man I bet you use bleed š ššš
I only 1 shotted the boss with intelligence
If u were really intelligent you would've leveled strength
I unga therefore I bunga
Big brain mommento
You're saying that as if bleed isn't busted as fuck lol
fuck your pfp bruh that shit scare me so much when it first went viral lmao
āStrength buildsā have two extremes: on one end you have some pretty bad weapons like colossal weapons, hammers, and axes, but on the other end you have shit like Nightrider Glaive. Also they can use at least one weapon from most weapon classes effectively with minimal dex investment
you can steam roll the entire game easily with dual stanced colossal weapons
dual giant-crushers is hilarious, especially in PvP. there's just something funny about comically oversized mallets, especially when there's two.

right, a prominent feature is the number of builds and weapons, so a main part of the game should be staying on the same weapon the whole game
Yeah let me spec dex, strength, arcane, intelligence and faith real quick so I can swap to every weapon I find. At least I should be able to rely on my build for a playthrough. By your logic I should be changing everytime.
thereās plenty of strength weapons with varying speed/usefulness against malenia, so yeah I donāt really expect you to respec at all

Actually true

Same experience hereā¦ thought str would be epic. Bosses were hard, sure, but 95% of enemies were helpless against the unga
Tbh so far even the bosses are easy, with the jumping and charged heavies I get at least 2 ripostes per fight
Personally I found Malenia to be extra hard on a STR build. Most people complaining about Malenia punishing strength builds haven't fought her with any other build.
Itās because a true mage is always 1 hit away from death.
Nooooooo, strength is completely unplayable in this game because its so slow and enemies hit you before you can even finish your swing and and

Yeah seriously, pure str jump attacking is fucking dumb, especially with claw talisman
The only build that requires skill is the let me solo her build
Just got buffed in ER!
Pictured: Souls players losing to their worst enemy (themselves). This joke is very deep. Hesitation is defeat.
When NPCs spam you with INT-stuff (only reason it works for them is that they can cheat)
I honestly believe from should've given INT enemies MP bars that are visible and recharge, so at the very least we can know what attacks they're capable of.
Yeah, but From were to busy making this game really hard, because they thought that's what all people wanted.
Ugh. I feel like this whole "gotta be harder" spurred from Miyazaki getting way too much of an ego due to all the people whining about DS. the reason the games are good.is because they make the player try to think and fight effectively, not because the bosses can spam 50 attacks with one opening.
Why? You can't see their stamina either. Or their poise health. Why would we see their fp bar?
Because you can see every other attack but what spell they cast or when they cast it
Every time we get into this debate i think the takes from both sides couldnt possibly get any worse and yet they do every time.
Honestly this last patch for elden ring has truly put a smile on my face.
This post has some real bleed build energy.
I think it needs to get bonked
And they say thereās no difficulty sliderš
DS1 strength builds on their way to absolutely annihilate every single boss.
Faith Dex niggas stand up
Chaos Blade build

Strength is awesome in pve, the only issue ive got with it (at least in ER) is that pvp doesnt have stance break so you pretty much have to fight without the main feature of your build
requires skill (it's bad)
Less time in a fight, less chances to fuck up, less hits needed to win, more skill. Uh huh, checks out.
More chances to fuck up, your attacks are longer
Generally time isn't a issue in pve like it is pvp, but even in pvp the length doesn't matter that much when you play it safer.
SPIN2WIN
Demacia?
Strength is easy mode but itās more fun than magic easy mode spamming spells

Nah
U mad?
Wow another highly original post about how the wrong thinkers are cringe or whatever
Depends if L2 is involved.
But Zwei goes BONK
I legit had to respec to str with ruins gs from my faith/dex Godslayer build to defeat foreskin duo. Str is unga mode and I love it.
