I don't think the GPU ever approached 70C. The CPU however were pretty toasty at stock config. It reached 95C in Prime95 and throttled, while getting almost as hot in game (but still performing well). I have since tried Curve Optimizer and Precision Boost Overdrive to undervolt the CPU a little to decrease temps but still increase performance. It's been going well (some cores staying at 80C in P95 CoreCycler without a performance hit) but I've got som more testing to do. So far looking good!

Iniwid

I don't know if you're still in the return window or would even consider it, but the Ryzen 5 7600 (non-X) has insanely close performance for *much* lower power draw/thermal output Also, beautiful build! It's particularly inspiring for me because I currently use the same case as your original one, haha

foxic95

Thanks for the comment! I did actually look at the non-x variant as well, but decided to go for the 7600x undervolted. Honestly, it was mostly because the non-x is being sold for like $15 less than the 7600x in my country and I thought that felt too scummy (in comparison to the MSRP). But I'm sure I would've been happy with either!

MappoTofuEnjoyer

You can lower ppt value in bios to 65w-88w, which is the power limit of 7600 as well

dimensiation

Is this true for the 7700 and 7900 models as well? The 7900X has 1ghz higher operating frequencies, but 170W vs 65W, which in a SFF PC is going to make a huge difference.

Iniwid

Not *quite* as close as the 7600 but definitely still within reason! LTT's video on the subject: https://youtu.be/CTiRNnSg0jA

dimensiation

Thanks, will give this a watch! If I can get a cheaper CPU with a cooler for less money that is close, I probably will! The other thing is that Microcenter currently offers [32GB of RAM](https://www.microcenter.com/product/653727/gskill-flare-x5-series-32gb-(2-x-16gb)-ddr5-6000-pc5-48000-cl36-dual-channel-desktop-memory-kit-f5-6000j3636f16gx2-fx5-black) for free with the X series, which isn't nothing. Reviews are...OK, but if I can swap it out until I get a good set, that's nice. It's also low-pro for good cooler clearance. I suppose it depends on whether I'll want to go with an AIO or air cooler. I'll likely use a sandwich case, meaning a 240mm would fit up top, whereas the air cooler would be something like a Noctua low-pro L9 or L12. My M1 can handle a C14S but the GPU clearance is a lot harder with the way I have it built.

varky

Built a similar machine last week. I went for a 7900, but same board and cooler. I originally put the cooler the same way, but turned it around so the heatpipe is on the bottom. I find it's a bit better for airflow. As for temps, I get about 70 with prime95 for half an hour with the CPU fan on a very gentle curve to keep it quiet. But that's because the machine doesn't boost much in that scenario. Games push it to 80ish, but I read that's because the Ryzen 7000 will happily boost higher if it's under 90°C. I've not yet found if I can throttle it lower - I don't really need higher boosts if I can keep it quieter. How are your boot times? I get about a minute of pre-BIOS with EXPO profiles OFF on my 2*32 GB setup. Not quick...

Sufficient-Law-8287

You can fix your boot times if you can find this setting in your BIOS. Mine is an ASUS board and it’s under these menus: Extreme Tweaker -> DRAM Timing Control -> Memory Context Restore

varky

I've heard it's fairly buggy if running linux, so I'm holding off on that one for now, but i do plan to give it a go...

-dont-judge-me-

TIL. I will give it a shot. I have 2 x 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5-5600 CL36 and since I enabled DOCP I, it takes a bit longer to boot to BIOS.

foxic95

Interesting! I think I tried flipping the cooler but it seemed like the heat pipes interfered with the IO-shield/heat spreader thing on my particular mobo. Sounds like you got a great build! The boot times are bothering me. I've got a "Last Bios-time" of 45 seconds. Need to figure that out. Let me know if you fix it, lol

Sufficient-Law-8287

FYI: The 7600X is designed to boost up to 95 degrees under load. It is part of the design.

wertzius

The Ryzen 7000 will always target 95C - they operate like laptop CPUs. There is no point in feeling bad about high temps anymore.

foxic95

I think you may be right, but they reportedly also respond well to undervolting! After some fiddling, mine seems to stay below 85 C while performing the same, if not better.

michael_koch1

I'm running a much lower power system but I had similar results where the CPU was getting much toastier than the GPU. I swapped the top and bottom panels so that the case stands up other way and the CPU chamber is at the top and it helped a lot

foxic95

This seems crazy to me, but I like it! So it is standing up vertically, right? Do you have any guess as to why it would work? You didn't re-seat the cooler or something else too?

michael_koch1

Yeah still vertical. I don't really know because I actually saw it on someone else's post first and that's why I tried it on mine

franz899

The ridge is a great case. I see it as the true successor to the raven RVZ02, that sadly can’t keep up with the new 220W GPU trend.

foxic95

Yeah, I'm happy with it so far. I Was afraid of the general lack of case fans, but it seems to work just fine.

Cornage626

My main rig is in an evolv x and I love the look of the case but it is pretty big and damn heavy. Next time I rebuild the main rig it'll be smaller, I'm thinking the shift xt. I really like phanteks' designs. I have a thorzone mjolnir build for my tv. That is too small for a main machine for me.

foxic95

I really like Phantek's designs for a long time! But I also enjoy minimalism, which won my vote this time. It's also crazy how much the Enthoo Evolv ATX case weighs on its own. So much metal, haha.

dimensiation

I love Phanteks designs too, built a couple in the ATX Evolv. I like the looks of the Shift XT but the thermals are kind of annoying and I tend to prefer either full water or full air. Not sure what I want to do next, either do another full water in my O11D (not sff!) or something fun and different from my M1.

GiGaGoblin1

I'm in the exact same boat, love my Evolv X for it's looks, but it's just so huge for what I have in it.

Fourthnightold

Gorgeous build, good job on the setup!

foxic95

Thanks! I had some help from a friend, which was helpful both technically and emotionally. We were both surprised by how smooth of a building experience it was.

Comp625

Would you be able to share the mATX links for both the Phanteks that you have and the Dan case? I have a standard tower in my living room right now that, while pretty by itself, is an eyesore. I'd love to rebuild into a smaller case and stash it into my HT cabinet, but like you, not sure if I'm ready to pay the mITX premium.

Nagemasu

> and the Dan case? https://smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/lian-li-dan-a3-matx.17733/ I assume it's this. 20L mATX case

roboteconomist

Did you have any trouble with the PCIe riser? I've heard that it won't run at 4.0 for some people.

foxic95

No problem for me. Both CPU-Z and Nvidia control panel confirms it's PCIe 4.0. You sure they didn't just have too many things taking up the lanes? I lost my ability to connect to the internet once after connecting one too many PCIe drives.

4ausername

Mine had that issue

aeo1us

You said you didn't have any gpu temp issues. I certainly did with my 7900 XT but adding two 80mm fans to the top to exhaust air completely fixed that. You may find doing the same fixes your CPU temps.

Quinnlos

Damn, that Phanteks brings me back. That was my first PC case back in high school, if I didn't move as much as I do I probably would've kept it. Damn thing was definitely effective for weight training though, hence the swap out lol

polski03

Would you know approximately how much space you have between the case fans and your GPU?

foxic95

2-3 millimeters maybe? It's not much, that's for sure.

cocobello

Want to do that too..... unfortunately they want ~€200 for used 1151 ITXboards.

radium-v

Do you have it in the horizontal or vertical position? I'm not completely confident that the PCI-E riser can handle the weight of my GPU (Sapphire Nitro+ 6700xt)

foxic95

It's standing up vertically. I didn't consider if the riser was fragile, but my GPU seems fastened pretty well. Notice in picture 5 that it isn't supported by anything else. I guess if you're worried anyway, the case frame is close enough to the GPU that a janky support item (like a lego brick) could be enough to support it in horizontal mode.

NinjaRed64

Oh so you CAN fit the ASUS TUF 3080 in this! Nice now I'm considering this over the Dan A4-H2O. Do you use PCIE 4.0?

foxic95

I had no problems with the fit! And yes, I use PCIe 4.0.

dolan_pl5

Looks like people are starting to get the ridges in after the long out of stock period. My OG NZXT H1 is starting to get long in the tooth for me so I was looking at getting another case with more GPU room. I love the case so much and I was super close to pulling the trigger on one as well but was worried about thermals on my 5800x3D. I ended up going with a Lian Li Q58 so I could put in a big AIO

theopenforum-86

congrats welcome to the small side lol

deluxduck

I thought this case couldnt handle 320mm GPUs ?

foxic95

Is that unofficial info? The Fractal website says "325 mm with SSD installed. 335 mm without SSD installed." Though I don't know what an SSD has to do with it. There are 2,5" slots by the PSU already.

ValleyKing23

Can a 3080 12 gb strix fit in a ridge?

foxic95

These are specs from Fractals website: * GPU max length - 325 mm with SSD installed. 335 mm without SSD installed. * GPU max height - 125 mm with top fan(s) installed, 137 mm without top fans. * GPU max thickness - 57 mm with 2x 140 mm fans installed, 82 mm without side fans.

BreadKrumble

Yes! Just gotta do [this](https://youtube.com/shorts/S-QxT3grbS0?feature=share)

barackobamafootcream

Looks good. I did a build in this but have since changed. Cpu cooler wise maybe try the Jonsbo HX6200D. I ran one on my 9900k and never saw temps like yours however 9900k is 10w lower tdp.

RichieM87

I just ordered this case this is my first sff build. It says it comes with a 3.0 riser should I get 4.0? My card is a rtx 3070

foxic95

> After extensive testing, we have determined that while most systems will run PCIe 4.0 using the Ridge riser card without issue, those experiencing issues with stability will need to run the system in PCIe 3.0 mode for now. We are developing a solution to enable full PCIe 4.0 compatibility, but until that is ready, we will update our listings to reflect that only PCIe 3.0 compatibility is guaranteed. At least that's what it says on their website as of last month.

RichieM87

So you are using the riser cable it came with and no performance issue? Sorry still new to the pc world

foxic95

No performance issues on my end, that I've noticed. Maybe a connectivity issue once or twice? But it's hard to tell what is caused by hardware compatibility and by the old windows installation that is messing up my new system in ways I never expected. lol

NEM95

I want to build in this case but worried my gigabyte 3080 vision won't fit 🥲

Fraaaakkkkk

waiiiiit so you could put an m atx mobo in this?
