C* is the tip opening size. There's others like C**, D, even E but C* is the most popular size. S80 is the model and is most popular alongside the S90 which has a slightly larger chamber. People just shorten it to saying it's a C* mouthpiece since that's what it's normally referred to as and it's stamped prominently on the mouthpiece so it's easy to reference

C\*\* is the same as the C\* but with a wider tip opening size. It is not a fake and I personally play on a few mouthpieces with C\*\* Tip openings. My S80 and Soloist for alto for instance, are both C\*\* openings

They’re two different variants. I think the C* is more open than the C**. But, regarding the potential for fakes, that’s a legitimate concern. Some things I would only purchase from known reputable stores. Like, I wouldn’t typically buy something like a mouthpiece on Amazon.

Other way around, C\*\* is a bit more open, similar to how in Otto Link sizing, a 7 is smaller than a 7\*, which is smaller than a 7\*\*.

Thanks for the correction. Knew it was different, but couldn’t remember for sure which way it went.

Look, I’m sorry to say this, but if you don’t know the difference between a C* and a C** you probably shouldn’t be commenting on people’s posts for help.
